Final Fantasy WoL Fandub [3rd Wave Started!]

Project Overview

I will casting in episodic format to keep things better organized. Though it is my intention to give voices for the game in its entirety, I'll take things slow and cast per episode to make things easier, so be sure to check back to the thread often to see which characters are up!

EDIT circa 2/14/21: EPISODE ONE IS OUT!

War of the Lions:The PSP/Phone game upgrade to the PSOne classic. Using speech and terminology appropriate for the time setting within the game, it also contains extra cutscenes and abilities not seen in the first game. I'm a huge fan of the game, and hope to make a good series out of this one.

Each episode will be about 20-something to 30-minutes long, with a bunch of dialogue per episode.

BE SURE TO READ UPDATES BEFORE RECORDING ANY AUDITIONS!

Rules & Guidelines

  • If you plan to audition for this project, make sure you're prepared to record for the long haul. If you are cast, and fail to get in touch with me if you cannot turn in lines or just disappear, you will be re-cast. I will not tolerate actors who have no intention of keeping a professional mind-set.

  • As much as possible, I will try to send out critiques for anyone who's requested one. I cannot guarantee that I will be able to send one out due to working X-amount of jobs, but I will do my best to send something out

  • PLEASE include your Discord or othermethod of communication in the description of your audition (edited 1/11/21)

  • Do not pester me for a critique or for information. I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have, but don't send me an e-mail or message everyday asking the same question.

  • I reserve the right to scout or self-cast certain characters as I see fit, if suitable voices are not found by the deadline. I will not cast any character open for audition before the deadline.

  • For War of the Lions, though most text in the game is written in a “Shakespearean” setting manner, you do not have to add any accents to character unless the description calls for it. If you want to though, feel free to.

Recording Guidelines

  • Be sure to record for EVERY line I've set out for the character you're auditioning for. Missing even a single line will result in me not counting the audition.

  • As much as possible, be sure to record without any background noises, puffs, peaking, or static. Make sure your voice is clear.

  • Record your lines in mp3 or wav format. 44100 - 48000 hz .

  • You're free to record multiple takes for each line. Limit it to no more than 3-5 takes per line.

  • Failure to abide by any recording guidelines set up during the audition process or after obtaining a role may result in your audition being rejected, or your role being recast or replaced without warning. I have this set up to keep things organized, since I'm a 1-man crew.

Latest Updates

  • New Auditions & Completed Episode 2 to come

How is everyone doing? First, I would like to apologize for how long I have made everyone wait. I'm still in the process of getting Episode 2 up and running, as well as going through every audition for the last 3 characters: Folmarv, Mustadio, and Cardinal Delacroix. Y'all have not made this easy for me, and I'm slowly whittling down auditions to pick the best possible. Through mixing episodes, I also noticed that it's been difficult to secure actors to play any incidental characters, and these are very much needed to keep things going. I will be posting another audition thread for other characters within the next couple of weeks, and have a dedicated section for extras as well. A rule I give is that any actor I cast can read for extra characters if they so wish, so if you'd be willing to voice a nameless character, it'll be more opportunity for you to play more characters. I will also make my decision for the other 3 characters I haven't filled yet very soon, so please look out for that update. I will link the other audition thread in a future update when the time comes. Thank you very much for patience, and I thank you to all who've auditioned!
  • What a casting

I apologize for those who anticipated on bated breath for casting this past week. Been in the process of upgrading my home studio, buying more supplies (it's still a work in progress), and finally got my laptop fixed. And I have to say, y'all did not make it easy to whittle down that last round, and the auditions I've received so far for the last 3 characters is looking to be the same. Episode 1 is already out (I will be remastering this with the new cast at some point), and I am about 30% done with episode 2. Look forward to a different thread as I update it with more characters. Until then, auditions for the last 3 for this round will end at the end of the month. Thank you to all who've auditioned so far, and best of luck to you all!
  • Casting for remaining characters

The casting for the closed characters shall be done within the next few days. Auditions for Folmarv, Mustadio, and Cardinal Delacroix will continue until the 27th. Amongst these auditions, I shall also pick named but minor characters based on the performances that left an impact. So even if you are not cast, you may get a PM from me soon. Upcoming characters will be put in a new thread I will link to at a later day to keep new auditions promoted. Thank you to all who have auditioned thus far and I hope you all look forward to Act I of this project, as mixing for this will be done very soon!
  • New Characters Added

As ws the first wave, I have closed auditions for my emergency recasts. Auditions for the 2nd wave (Arazlam, Argath, Agrias, Gaffgarion) will end on February 6, while I have added 3 new characters for future installments, and the auditions for those characters will end on February 27. I will also cast minor named roles based on the performances of certain auditions, so though you may not be cast as any listed characters, you may very well receive a private message from me if you perform well enough. I will also create another thread for future characters, as CCC's project auditions only remain featured for so long. Thank you to all who auditioned so far, and best of luck to you all!
  • Down to the Wire

Less than a week left to audition for brothers Zalbaag & Dycedarg Beoulve, both of whom I'll need to complete Episode 01, and two weeks until the other characters currently on this page (Arazlam, Agrias, Argath, Gaffgarion) are closed. I will get to critiquing those who have not received one yet in the coming days, and you are allowed to submit a re-do if you so wish. However, those who have not taken the time to read the recording guidelines and audition rules, will have their auditions rejected. I cannot stress enough that I have no tolerance for those who make up their own rules and can't be bothered to turn in quality work. I want to work with as much different and talented people as possible, but I would rather work with those who can take direction than those who ignore guidelines, even if their voice would otherwise be a perfect fit. Thank you to all who've auditioned so far, and I leave you with a small preview of Episode 01. Another preview may be on the way in the coming weeks. https://youtu.be/PbX9hZHOO6I

"Leader of the Knights Templar, a group of knights who serve the Church of Glabados. A cruel, duplicitous man, he will do anything to accomplish his goals. Even at the expense of his own children's lives. What lies beneath the surface of this serious knight lies something more...sinister." He may not speak much, but he is the main antagonist of the game. So his role is of utmost importance.

Age: 46

Voice Type & Personality: Medium Low-Low. Manipulative, Cruel, No-nonsense. (He is the type of villain who only cares for himself and would gladly sacrifice anyone to achieve them. He doesn't speak too much, but he is rather smooth and charismatic enough to rally many to his cause. I imagine him to have a voice similar to Steve Blum's Sub-Zero, but I'm open to interpretation)

  • [trying to convince the princess to side with him]

Oh? Then what will you do? Let yourself fall into Duke Larg's hands, and you'll have a noose in place of a crown. We only wish to help you claim the throne that is yours by right.

  • [mere moments after plunging a sword into a former ally]

Had you made your confession willingly your life might have been spared. I should have preferred to employ measures less...extreme, but there's no time for that now. I had hoped to enlist your aid in gathering the auracite. But the boy holds most of the Stones now. Your aid is no longer required.

  • [growing increasingly manic as he explains his plans]

Of course...It is but a matter of blood! You see, do you not? She wants more blood. The Angel of Blood must slake her thirst ere she rise again. The land has drunk deep of blood in the chiliads since Saint Ajora's death. Yet still she covets more. So be it. Once more to world of light, there to steep the earth in blood's sweet rain.

"A young man from Goug Machine City, he seeks to learn of the mysterious machines hidden beneath his beloved city. Skilled with a gun, this sharpshooter is quick with both his wits and feet."

Age: 17

Voice Type/Personality: Medium. Confident, Witty, a bit rash.

  • [to those pursuing him]

I have a message for your keeper, Ludovich (Loo-doe-vitch)! Tell him that if he lays so much as a finger on my father, he'll never see the auracite again!

  • [describing his gun]

What, this? This is a weapon called a "pistol." It uses an explosive powder to propel a metal projectile toward its target. This one is of simple make. There were once pistols said to fire projectiles infused with magicks.

  • [embarassed while giving someone he likes a present]

Yes. Y-you're always busy fighting, and...and...Well, I know you've probably small time for such womanly things, but...I thought m-mayhap you might like to have that.

"A high ranking priest of the Church of Glabados, he is known by many as a man of good moral standing and honor. However, beneath the guise of a man of good faith lies a calculating, devious man who hungers for power."

Age: 52

Voice Type/Personality: Medium Low to Low. Well-spoken, Wise, Sinister when angered. (He should have a powerful voice, with an English accent preferred. I'd imagine his voice to be similar to Sir Patrick Stewart.)

  • [assuring his guests of their safety]

Fear not, dear lady. You are in my care now. Princess Ovelia (Oh-vee-lee-aah) can scarce feel at ease while those tasked with her safety are vexed with such worriment. You may enjoy the comforts of the castle - wanting though they are - while we await a reply from the Church. So long as Saint Ajora is our guide, we have naught to fear.

  • [reprimanding his useless subordinate]

Still your tongue. We will hand Princess Ovelia over to them as promised. But it is no concern of mine if those who know the truth of her kidnapping live. I had no hand in it. I trust things to those who can be trusted. Men who fail me time and again are rewarded in another way...

  • [holding in his hands a Stone that will transform him into a being of terror]

Ha ha! Nescient humility from one possessed of such an artefact. That Stone you hold can twist the very weave of nature, to say nothing of the world. Yet I fear my words are wasted on you. Actions speak louder, yes?

"Author and narrator of the Zodiac Brave Story, an account of the War of the Lions through the eyes of the true hero."

Narrative. (The most important role in the story, his voice will set the tone for the entire story. And yes, a British narrator would be preferred but I'm welcome to any narration takes.)

  • I am Arazlam, student of Ivalice's (Ee-vaah-lease's) Middle Age. You are familiar with the War of the Lions, no? It was a bitter war of succession that rent the land of Ivalice in two. Here we first find mention of Delita Heiral (Deh-lee-tah Heh-ral), a hithertofore unknown young man, the hero who would draw the curtain of this dark act of our history. His is a heroism of great renown - a story familiar to all who dwell within our land.

  • Ah, but what the eye sees is oftentimes a mere fragment of the truth. There was another young man, the youngest of House Beoulve (Bay-oolve), long famed for producing leaders of knights and men. There is no official record of the role he played on history’s stage.

  • The Church maintains he was a heretic, an inciter of unrest and disturber of the peace. Which account is to be believed? Join me in my search to uncover the answer.

"A knight apprentice in service to the marquis of Limberry. Arrogant and short-tempered, Argath believes commoners to be no more than fodder for the noble class."

Age: 16

Voice Type & Personality: Medium High to Medium Low. Arrogant, Brash, Noble. (I'd prefer an accent to match his noble stature)

  • My name is Argath, a knight in His Excellency the marquis Elmdore (mar-key Elm-door) de Limberry's household. Well, truth be told, I am a knight apprentice. As are you, if I'm not mistaken.

  • [solemnly recounting his family's history]

My own house was once respected as highly as House Beoulve (Bay-oolve), you know. At least, until my grandfather was captured during the war. He turned traitor, thinking to buy his freedom with the lives of his friends. But his freedom scarce outlived his honor. He was not a dozen paces out their gate when the dagger found his back. Killed by some common squire, no more a knight than I.

  • [egging his comrade on to finish an enemy]

Do it, Ramza! She fights as a Corpse. Let her become one for true! She's a foe and a traitor - an enemy of House Beoulve! The world has no place for such wretches. Her claim to life is forfeit! Spare her now, and you place your seal on the warrants for our own deaths! It's her or us, Ramza! Strike her down!

A Holy Knight part of the Lionsguard, the personal guards to the royal family. She is a strong woman with unwavering loyalty to the princess."

Age: 20

Voice Type & Personality: Medium to Medium Low. Headstrong, Noble, Righteous. (If anyone played Persona, I'd imagine her voice similar to Tara Platt's portrayal Mitsuru Kirijo)

  • I am Agrias (Aay-gree-ass) Oaks, a knight of the Lionsguard. My companions and I have journeyed from Orbonne (Or-bahn) Monastery seeking sanctuary. By the grace of Saint Ajora, I beg you, lay open your gate!

  • [Berating a man for not helping]

I would not accept your help if you offered it! A true knight is all too eager to set right what he has let go amiss. The Lionsguard will serve the king's justice. Lavian (La-vee-aahn), Alicia. We leave at once!

  • [attempting to assure the Princess of her duty]

To turn a blind eye to this is to forsake the hallowed oath I swore: to defend this kingdom at the peril of my life. My sword is sworn to you as well, and I mean for it to serve. Your safety requires that this plot be stopped. It is not lightly that I abandon duty, but only for the love I bear you and our kingdom. I can but pray that you forgive me, Highness.

Age: 52

Voice Type & Personality: Medium Low to Low. Rough, Serious. (I'd imagine him having kind of a cockney English accent, but a hardened warrior's voice, not too gruff, is the most important feature)

  • [a response to someone calling him vulgar]

A guard captain in these rain-sodden hinterlands ought not expect chivalry. We are in the employ of the Order, not of it. Our pay does not cover trite courtesies to the likes of you.

  • [demanding an answer from someone in his way]

Spare me the lecture, I ask for a name! You'd have me believe some bright-eyed pup caught wind of this plan and rescued the princess in the name of justice!? Who gives you your orders? Who told you of this plot!?

  • [trying to convince someone that the ends justify the means]

A man does not eat an omelette without breaking eggs! Blood is the price of progress! It is the ink in which history's pages are writ! Look around you, boy! Ivalice (Ee-vah-lease) rots from within! Your brother would carve out the root of its decay, even if it means his hands must needs be soiled!

"A young man regarded by all of Ivalice to be a hero. Ramza's friend since childhood, he is an idealistic and honorable young man with the intent of changing Ivalice, no matter the means."

He is the common-born best friend of the Beoulve family, and had long counted them as family. But when certain events were put in motion that ended in the death of people he cared about, he sought to change the country through any means necessary. Not above manipulating others to suit his own ends, Delita is a well-spoken young man whose charisma draws many to his aid.

  • "Do you remember, Ramza? When your father showed us how to make a whistle of a blade of grass?"

  • "Will endeavor grant me an army?! I would save Tietra (Tee-tra) with these hands, if aught were in my power to do. But I cannot. Tis my meager lot in this life..."

Enough! Who have you become, that you do not trust your own family? Begone from my sight! Return to Eagrose (Ee-gross) and trouble me no more!

  • [steeling himself to go against his own family in the name of justice]

I hear you were decorated for your first victory, Ramza (Rom-zah). They sing your praise from on high. You do honor to our name, my brother - and to me.

  • [reprimanding his brother for being reckless]

Might I pose a question, Ramza? What purpose do laws serve when even those who would enforce them choose not to pay them heed? Adherence to the rule of law is a knight's solemn duty. It falls upon us, as Beoulves, to bear the burden of example.

  • [defending himself against his "ungrateful" family]

"Leader of the Corpse Brigade, a group of bandits made of discarded soldiers in the aftermath of a long war. He seeks to rid the world of high-born nobles who would look down on common men like himself. When it comes to his war against the nobles, the ends justify the means."

Age: 35

Wiegraf is a passionate and proud man who has seen his share of battle. He fights for the men who did not receive due pay for their services in war, and seeks to create a future where the class system is abolished, no matter how extreme his methods of doing so. Even so, he is a man of honor who does not like to involve innocent people in his crusade.

  • [giving a compelling speech to a subordinate who wishes to flee from battle rather than fight]

So we fly - what then? Know you some happy haven in which we may alight? If we flee, they win once more. As they have always won. We must make for our children a fairer future than the past you and I have known. They must not suffer as we do! The stone we cast might raise only the smallest of waves, but see how they crash upon the shore! Waves rich with our blood...

  • [steeling himself before battle]

Your faces are known to me. But I did not know that you would one day kill my sister. Milleuda (Meh-loo-dah) deserved a better death - they did not even send proper knights to kill her! I will not flee before her murderers. I'll venge Milleuda's death or die in the trying!

  • [at the grave of his dearly departed younger sister]

Milleuda...pray forgive me. I thought to deliver swift vengeance, yet here I am before you, my own blade sheathed beside me as yours lies sheathed within the earth. I have failed at much, but I shall not fail you. Your killers will know vengeance! In this, at least, I shall not be disgraced.

Age: 23

Milleuda is a proud and capable swordswoman. Within her soul sits a wealth of anger due to her harsh life she was made to endure. She would rather face her death on the battlefield than be branded a coward like the nobles she despises.

  • [arguing against someone who thinks low-borns are less than human]

  • [cursing the men who bested her in battle]

You deny me even the mercy of an honorable death. A pox on you and your pity! So long as you bear the name Beoulve (Bay-oolve), you will ever remain an enemy to me. You'd do well to remember that.

  • It is enough that you can stand there before me in ignorance of the misdeeds done us. You may not see the world beyond your high walls, but that does not mean they mark its boundaries. • You must not let the how of it steal your eyes away from the what. Their rescue of the marquis (mar-key) was no small feat. It is the way of young men to be impetuous in their haste to do great things. We were not unlike them once.

  • A change in plans was inevitable, once the fool went and staged the kidnapping within our very borders. And let us not forget - they did save the marquis's life. He will now be honor-bound to acquiesce. In the end, your brother's deeds have placed us in quite the favorable position.
