Jack & The Beanstalk (The Folk Musical!)
Project Overview
I wrote a feature length (2 hr) Folk Musical of Jack and The Beanstalk. All of the music is finished as well as most of the sound design for this project. I’m posting a couple auditions here for the part of Jack’s Mom and one of the giants. They are not singing roles. This script has about 20 other characters that have already been recorded. Been a really fun project!

Just wanted to thank you all for the amazing auditions! There are a lot of talented people on here. Both roles have been filled for these parts so I won’t be looking at new auditions now. Thank you again! I have casted people for projects based on auditions for a different project. So perhaps some of you might hear back about a different project in the future. Have an amazing day! - Matt
Warm, sweet, gentle, yet strong-willed. Perhaps a bit of a North American country accent, either midwestern or southern could fit great.
Jack, what did I tell you about tracking dirt into the kitchen? Leave your boots outside, please.
What am I going to do with you Jack? You’re no better than your father… remember he’d come in hunched over yourself… his hand on his back. And if I ever burned the toast he always said he liked it that way just so I wouldn’t have to throw it away... more stubborn than a mule. I would give the whole world Jack just to see that stubborn smile again.
Well Jack… about Bessie… well we just got a notice that the electric and water bill is due. And I couldn’t even convince Finnegan to get any groceries on loan today. Unil the harvest comes I think we have no choice but to hold ourselves over. There’s an auction to there today in town…
GIANT. Deep. A slow mysterious cadence to the voice.
This giant ends up shrinking in the story. I included an audition line where he speaks after his metamorphosis. :) This would have a more normal conversational feel. Less GIANT. Can have a touch of a north american country accent.
(Slow pace) I see you, boy. No use hiding. You know I could signal Grog with a single stroke of this bell.
(Slow pace) Oh, a bribe? Your time is wasting boy. My hand is on the rope now.
(Normal Paced Voice) Children, I reckon I have sinned against you both. I ain’t sure you recognize me… all the years being a giant an’ all. Well I was the principle of Bayfield School District before you were grown up enough to remember well. I suppose I tried to runaway from Bayfield thinkin’ it would be easier up here. A new beginning and carefree. It was always my duty to watch over this city... and though my eyes were steady, my heart was far away.
