Girl Meets Flower [Vanitas] | Original Comic Dub & Fantasy World Casting

Project Overview

NOTE: This project features a variety of European accents, from English to Welsh to Scottish. Spread the word if you know a VA friend who fits the bill! We are also looking for a Celtic musician and Gaelic singer.

Greetings, I'm SYTOkun, a professional webtoon artist and co-creator of the webtoon Summoner on Tapas. I also run Switchback Channel on YouTube, where I create voice-acted fan projects and original stories.

This is the casting for a comic dub for a short comic set in my own original fantasy sci-fi world called Vanitas. The comic is titled Girl Meets Flower, which you can read in the link above. It's a cute story about a young girl who takes care of a flower, only to find out 12 years later that the flower is actually a plant-human girl named Niwa, who then grows attached to her.

ABOUT VANITAS

Girl Meets Flower is intended to be a dip in the pool for my fully original fantasy setting Vanitas, which I hope to expand and recruit more talent for as time goes on.

Girl Meets Flower is a short comic set in the world of Vanitas, an idealistic post-apocalypse world set centuries after nearly all of civilization was destroyed by the emergence of a giant magical superorganism called the World Tree, and follows the new peoples and cultures that now search for clues of the past from the Old World. Vanitas is a setting borrowed from some of my biggest inspirations from many sources, including RWBY, Destiny, and more.

The World Tree's magic completely transformed Earth into a magical landscape, even creating new species of not only plants and animals, but humans too, called Variants. Some of these Variants are plant people called Phytosapiens [fye-toh-say-pien], animal-human hybrids called the Feralis [fur-ral-liss] and avian sky elves called the Síoraí. Many people live on floating islands suspended by the Tree's magic, called Shards - or in the ruins of the cities of old Earth.

The main story follows Vesper, an idealistic young girl who joins EXDUS, a foundation dedicated to exploring the Old World and mapping the New. Along the way, she forms a team with Niwa (the plant girl in the comic), a playful fox girl named Tsuki, a sky princess named Aestelle and a fiery skylander named Sol.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This project is currently unpaid, but I have recently launched a Patreon for my channel, and with the work I put into my different projects and stories, I fully intend to grow my channel into a career. I find this format of storytelling very enjoyable and efficient, and intend to make a living creating these stories and sharing them freely with the world. Therefore, I also intend to properly support my team members and contributors for willingly collaborating with me on my work once I am fully stable to do so consistently.

VAs cast in lead roles can expect to reprise their roles as more videos are made about Vanitas. However, do note that between my current two major projects, REMNANTS and Summoner+, Vanitas will be on the back end of updates for a good while, so updates will be more sporadic for it.

Requirements



  • Quality Recordings. All auditions and lines should be clean and have no background noise.


  • Commitment for Leads. Actors cast for lead roles should be available for script readings at least once every week or so, but this is more flexible for minor and supporting roles. You're also expected to stick with your role - it'd be very bad to have to recast a lead character! Life comes first though, and I'm more than ready to accommodate any extensions you may need.


  • Discord. I will be sending all updates and messages through Discord. I will contact you here on Casting Call Club first upon shortlisting or casting, so no need to share your Discord tag upfront.

Vesper [VESS-pur] is the protagonist of Girl Meets Flower and Vanitas. 

A girl with striking silver hair and aquamarine eyes who is shy but determined. She is introverted and polite, usually lost in her own thoughts and idealistic dreams. She lives in New Cambridge, a city nestled within one of the roots of the World Tree.

She has a slight English accent, something like a straightforward Received Pronunciation would be great.

  • [Kid Vesper. Excited and begging her uncle to let her go and explore to see the plants in the garden.]

    "Uncle! Can I see the plants, pleeease? Uncleee~"

  • [Kid Vesper. While talking and watering her flower friend, she accidentally spills the entire bottle on it. She panics, almost crying.]

    "Aaaaah! I'm so sorry! Please don't drown! Wh-What do I doo...?!"

  • [Young Adult Vesper. She meets the real Niwa after 12 years.]

    "N-Niwa... Is that you...?"

    [she laughs, and sheds a tear of joy. The situation is like a happy dream. Niwa insists that Vesper's name is Whisper.]

    "Hahaha! If you say so, Whisper it is, then!" *sniffs as she tears up* "Wow, you've grown... so much...!"

Niwa [NEE-wa] is a Phytosapien (plant person) who was unwittingly raised by Vesper as a child and becomes attached to her once they are reunited.

She fits the familiar "emotionless girl learning about her newfound humanity" character type. She speaks in a monotone, but gentle and soothing, childlike voice. 

No particular accent.

Vesper's uncle, an ace pilot and fighter for EXDUS, the organisation Vesper joins when she grows up.

Tsuki [TSOO-key] is a delinquent girl who is a fox Feralis (human-animal hybrid). Playful and jovial, but tends to not take things seriously, and likes to joke and tease others. Sometimes she goes too far, but she's just trying to have fun - at your expense.

She's an "Old World Collector", meaning she loves collecting old artifacts and strange relics from the past. Old torn-up manga, Rubik's cubes, ancient posters of forgotten musicians - some may call it junk, but she calls them treasures.

Her voice quality can either be: 1) Somewhat nasally and wacky voice and with a noticeable drawl, or 2) a lower, more relaxed and flirty voice. Whichever suits your voice more.

She has an East Asian accent, closest to Japanese or Chinese.


  • [Tsuki lies on a couch, bored.]

    "Boring, boring, boring... when is anything interesting going to happen?"

    [She jumps off.]

    "I'll tell you when! You have to make it happen, yourself! Anyone wants to go on patrol with me?"

Aestelle [ays-TELL] is a princess of the Síoraí, a Variant of new humans with semihollow bones and avian features such as feathers and wings, and who live in the highest reaches of the sky. She serves her mother, the domineering Queen of the Síoraí, and joins EXDUS as part of Vesper's team.

Aestelle has a passionate, clear voice. She's not afraid to raise her own volume to make a point, and is very outspoken. She has an air of nobility and authority, but still clearly sounds like she lacks the raw experience or wisdom she thinks she possesses.

The Síoraí have their own language hidden from outsiders, which is heavily based on Welsh, Old Irish and Celtic languages. As such, Aestelle would have a similar accent to match, such as Welsh or Irish.

Here's a small guide I found on Welsh pronunciation, if you're interested in tackling it without prior knowledge of the language (like me, cough).


  • [acting stuck-up and princess-y]

    "I'll have you know that my mother, the Queen, has little interest in trifles like these, if at all. So, for better or worse, you'll simply have to negotiate with me. If that displeases you, then I suggest you leave and save us both the headache."

  • [complaining about the stables for her mount, a flying creature. Intimidating, threatening to humiliate herself if her pet isn't treated properly.]

    "I have said the last word and no more shall it be said! Either you find my mount accommodations more befitting of her regal bearing, or I'll wallow in this dirt pit alongside her and see what your superiors make of that! Are we made clear on this matter?!"

  • [angry, cursing in her native tongue after spotting trespassers entering Síoraí territory (not actual Welsh, just random words I made up)]

    "Daenachwydd twll! How dare these wretches set wing into our lands?! Curse them... mwrdaith scum... I'll go down there and teach them respect myself!"

    *[Daenachwydd twll - Da-ey-nah-ch-woo-dh T-oo-ll - the "ch" is guttural, as in "loch" or "Bach".] 

    *[Mwrdaith - M-oor-die-ith - Keep in mind these are not entirely accurate to Welsh pronunciation, but somewhat close]

A well-mannered girl named Marisol [mah-ree-sole] who works at the library. However, when she's off-duty, she becomes Sol, an axe-wielding warrior, her hair turning fire-red along with her personality. She comes from a race of sky-dwelling vikings called the Shardlanders, and is a descendant of a prominent noble House.  She joins Vesper's team and sort of becomes both the responsible but also laid-back big sister of the group. 

Generally, in both forms, she is mature for her age, able to be polite, brash or fun as the occasion needs. She has a deep, mature-sounding voice.

Has a Highlander accent like Scottish. It grows noticeably thicker when she turns into Sol. If you know the accent well, feel free to adjust the lines or words slightly to best showcase your accent.

  • [As Marisol. Polite and caring tone. She tends the library while Vesper approaches her, trying to look for a book.]

    "Oh, Miss Vesper, good mornin'." *amused* "You're not lost again, are you...?"

    "HA! Well, what's wrong? Afraid to get your feet wet? Come on, let's go! It's a superb day for responsibly culling wildlife and collecting samples, isn't it?"

    "FINALLY! I was looking for a good challenge! You'll make an excellent specimen for my field thesis, so why don't we start by breaking some teeth first, huh?! HRAAAH!"

Seeking an Gaelic vocalist (or similar) to sing for background vocals to paint the world of Vanitas, as a voice accompanied by simple, minimalistic instrumentation. You are expected to work together with the Ambient Musician, which I will help direct. Singers of other languages also free to audition!

NOTE: Let me know also what languages you can fluently speak/write simple lyrics for. You may be expected to compose original lyrics to your vocals following musical accompaniment. Some of the music will have lyrics in fictional languages based on real-world ones, but a fluency in the language will allow for a much deeper meaning to the lyrics of each song. Thank you!
