Project Overview

Greetings, I'm SYTOkun, a professional webtoon artist and co-creator of the webtoon Summoner on Tapas. I also run Switchback Channel on YouTube, where I create voice-acted stories and shorts for both my fan projects and personal works.
Summoner+ (Summoner Plus) is an spin-off to Summoner. It is not officially published or endorsed by Tapas, but nonetheless created by the original artist and writer: myself and my co-creator respectively, and takes place in the same setting. Instead of a webtoon, Summoner+ will be self-published as an illustrated and voice-acted series on YouTube. You can read the first 6 Chapters of the Summoner webtoon (Season 1) for free on Tapas to get a sense of the story and characters, while Summoner+ videos are free to watch, always.
Summoner is an Isekai fantasy story following a girl from Earth named Kokona and her companions as they explore the world of Ser, and Koko has to choose between either returning home to her uncle and sister, or becoming the Summoner -- the prophesied saviour of this new world. Summoner+ expands on their journeys by telling their adventures through worldbuilding, character relationships and action scenes.
This project is currently unpaid, but I am absolutely putting forward my best work to grow and bolster my channel and in good time, earn a living making stories like these and properly supporting my team members and contributors for willingly collaborating with me on my work.
Notes For Auditioners:
While optional, please say your character's name in their voice at the beginning of your audition - it helps get a sense of your performance. And wherever possible, do include any shouts, grunts and battle exertions that you can include, even if not specified in the audition lines. It lets me know the upper limits of your performance.
While not R18, this series has a lot of fanservice and just generally gets pretty lewd at times [about PG-16], so only audition if you are comfortable with such. There are both straight and LGBT characters in the cast, whose relationships and sexualities will be portrayed pretty openly. Make sure you're comfortable with that as well.
There will also be a lot of action scenes, so be prepared to shout. There'll be swearing and profanity too (unless you're Cassia).
- It goes without saying, but this is an original fantasy world, so it'll have a lot of made-up words you have to say. Don't hesitate to ask me about pronunciation of any unfamiliar terms.
- Some characters have examples linked for their voice portrayal, including Japanese voice actor performances. Summoner+ is created in English - I trust in your ability to interpret the personality and idea of each performance according to the character, regardless of the examples' language.
Requirements

Age. All auditioners must be age 18 and above. The content of Summoner+ is not explicit, but some parts still fall into the category of ecchi and may expand in the future as the characters progress, so this is just to be safe. This also is to account for possible violence or gore in action scenes. -
Quality Recordings. All auditions and lines should be clean and have no background noise. -
Commitment for Leads. Actors cast for lead roles should be available for script readings at least once every week or so, but this is more flexible for minor and supporting roles. You're also expected to stick with your role - it'd be very bad to have to recast a lead character! Life comes first though, and we're more than ready to accommodate any extensions you may need. -
Discord. I will be sending all updates and messages through Discord. I will contact you here on Casting Call Club first upon shortlisting or casting, so no need to share your Discord tag upfront.

Given that Kokona is the main character, she needs to have a versatile actor. Please include anything you think can help cement your performance and strengths, such as laughing, shouting, intense anger, crying, etc.
Kokona (ko-ko-nah, stress on the first "ko" rather than the second; "ko" as in "no" or "go") he protagonist. In the webtoon, she awakened to her powers as the Summoner and found confidence in herself and her purpose. She has sigils of Light on her hands that she uses to create weapons and tools made of magical Light.
Personality:
In the original webtoon, Koko was spirited and determined, but was plagued by a lot of uncertainty and fear, not knowing her purpose and afraid of being useless. Currently, she’s grown into her role as the Summoner, finding new purpose in Ser, and is a lot more confident. Kokona is spunky, determined and loyal. She is pretty expressive emotionally, and doesn't hide her feelings well, often showing her anger and joy very clearly.
Background:
A Japanese-Filipino girl from a city called Horizon City on Earth, who lost her direction in life after her best friend Miko disappeared two years prior (only to find out she was transported to Ser like herself). Unremarkable at first glance, but with a great desire to find her place in the world, and a strong loyalty to those she considers her family. She likes games and trying out new things, and with a whole new world to see, there's no shortage of things to try out!
Voice Notes:
I have always pictured Koko sounding like an English equivalent of Megumi Han's portrayal of Akko Kagari from Little Witch Academia (the original dub, I find the official English dub a bit lacking in emotional delivery and expressiveness), and Koko herself was based a lot on her. I like how expressive and varied her voice is, and how strong her shouts sound.

"Oh Cassia, it's you."

"Have you ever thought much about home...? Ever thought to yourself, 'I wanna go back. I wanna go back... so so bad...'?"

"Light Javelin! Taaake this--!! HRAAAAA!" [powerful, confident]

Miko (mee-ko, "ko" as in "yo" or "no") is Kokona’s best friend who disappeared two years ago in the webtoon and was thought to be dead, only to be reunited with Koko in the world of Ser. She's intelligent and organised, but also easily irritable and it's difficult for her to open up to people emotionally. She is bisexual and is currently in a “very close” relationship with Shayna.
Personality:
Miko is sort of the Sokka (from Avatar The Last Airbender) of the group. She’s level-headed, knowledgeable and often the one who decides the plans and strategies of the team. However, she can let her confidence go to her head, and often seems like she has a stick up her butt - complaining that her teammates aren’t taking things seriously enough.
Background:
A girl from a Korean family in Horizon City, though she’s not in touch with her culture and prefers modern Western life. Her real name is Ji-won, but Kokona nicknames her Miko. When she disappeared and fell into Ser, she wasted no time in researching as much as she could about this new world and trying to find a way out.
Voice Notes:
Miko has an attractive, relatively deep voice, making her sound mature for her age. She speaks bluntly and matter-of-factly, though is prone to overreacting and bursts of anger or embarrassment (read: a tsundere).
I imagined her voice as an English equivalent to performances common for roles played by Megumi Toyoguchi (namely 00:24 - 00:48 and 2:23 - 3:00). To note for an English performance: A generally deep voice; serious but not monotone, with a mature and experienced demeanour. Though in Miko's case, she's not as experienced as she tries to portray herself as, which leads to her slipping up and breaking that calm exterior.

[exasperated]
"Ugh... could you all stop being a bunch of idiots for just two minutes? Damn it, if I have to clean another friggin' mess because of you, Koko..."
[sighs]
"LOOK. It's not that hard for crying out-- just sit your ass down and don't say anything, okay?"
[planning, strategising. Deliberate with her words]
"I heard this species of hydra lives in dark caves and ruins. Very slippery, very agile. Basically, if we don't keep moving, we're pretty much screwed."
[summarises her plan]
"So keep away from the shadows, stick close, and most importantly, don't look it in the eyes. Got it?"
[Does a cute short shriek after Shayna touches her. Gets embarrassed and flustered.]
"EEK!"
"Whaddya think you're doing, you dumbass?! Keep your hands to yourself! I am trying to work here!"
[Shayna doesn't listen. Miko is a mix between being pissed off and turned on.]
"Oh god, just get out of my face... you're so damn annoying."

A fea (elf) girl from the continent of Yurai in Ser, and the first person to ever meet and befriend Kokona. She is loyal and caring, and believes with all her heart that Kokona is the rescuer of Ser. She has the power to grow and manipulate plants and trees.
Personality:
Idealistic and purehearted, Cassia is the emotional heart of the team. Caring and motherly, she makes sure everyone is happy and well taken care of. She always puts the needs the others over herself, which can often overwhelm her own regard for herself.
Background:
Born a sheltered village girl on the islands of Mai’ila, Cassia lost her beloved mother at a very young age. She has always believed in the Summoner, even if the world has largely forgotten or disregarded it as an old promise unfulfilled.
Voice Notes:
Cassia has a high, gentle and bright voice that contrasts against her huge stature (she’s around 6’4). She’s very innocent, and lacks a single ounce of cynicism or jadedness, which shows in her voice and how she speaks to others, often trusting and earnest. Her voice has an airy, bubbly quality to it.
I imagined her voice as similar to Hynden Walch’s Starfire from Teen Titans, or the English equivalent of Minako Kotobuki's portrayal of Mugi from K-ON.

[fascinated about Koko's world, which people in Ser call Aeda (ah-eyy-dah). She sounds curious and excited, with childlike wonder.]
"Oh kinsman Kokona, you have to tell me more about the bubble tea! How do you freeze the bubbles, won't they just pop? Is it some form of... strange magic that all the bubble tea breweries in Aeda have??"
[laughs giddily]
"Oh, it is made of starch? That's so strange... but wonderful! I never would have known you could make something so quaint with that..."
[panicking, trying to calm a fight between her teammates down]
"Everyone, please stop fighting! Stop, stop it!"
[they don't listen and Cassia gets filled with motherlike anger, and raises her voice in a stern way.]
"EVERYONE, STOP FIGHTING, RIGHT THIS INSTANT! Why are you doing this to each other?! We are a team!"
[witnesses a burned village with its inhabitants dead. She starts crying and sobbing]
"No...! This is horrible...! Who... What kind of monster could do something like this...?"
[She hears someone calling for help in the distance. Still trying to talk through her tears, she alerts her teammates, her emotion a mix of desperation and hope.]
"D-Did you hear that? Someone's still alive, it came from under that house! Please, everyone... we have to go... we have to go now...!"

A genius inventor and flirty adventurer from the empire of Aralis who lost her legs in one of her experiments and had them replaced with high-calibre firearm prosthetics instead.
Personality:
Far from a stuffy academic or sheltered bookworm, Shayna is nonetheless a brilliant inventor and graduated at the top of her class from her academy. She loves adventuring, seeing new places and knowing new people - sometimes very intimately. She’s flirtatious and very much comfortable in her own body, always living life to its fullest. She loves teasing specifically Miko in creative and often provocative ways.
Background:
A girl of humble background from Aralis who had a bright personality and great academic skill, she is something of a genius and helped invent many breakthrough concepts in Ser, including the firearms on her legs. She almost died when she lost her legs while working on an experiment, and was saved by her friend and lover Jay, who constructed prosthetic legs for her based on Shayna’s own design. She has since continued to improve her legs and now uses them for combat and exploring the treacherous ruins to find artifacts.
Voice Notes:
Shayna has a very bubbly and enthusiastic voice, not afraid to laugh, express herself or have a good time.
I have no particular voice in mind for Shayna, but the closest I can draw similarity to is the types of characters played by Cassandra Lee Morris, with a good balance of bubbly and serious, not leaning too heavily into one side or the other. Do note that while Shayna is almost always positive and cheerful, she’s definitely intelligent and self-aware, and is capable of being serious, quiet or angry as the mood calls for it. The voice should also sound youthful, but not too young-sounding.
Optional: You can experiment in an extra take with a slight American accent of choice that you think may suit the character. Southern for example.

[showing off her new leg modifications. Be as expressive/bubbly as you can, but not over-the-top.]
"Heheh! Pretty sweet, huh? Better shock absorption means better recoil control. Better recoil control means I can put in more firepower! Ordnance rounds, here I come!"
[Talking to Koko about a mysterious stranger they took in whom Shayna is suspicious of. This is Shayna in a serious moment, to see if your performance is consistent for more quiet/subdued scenes as well. Shouldn't sound too monotone or serious, but has appropriate restraint for the scene]
"Hey boss. Can I... tell you something?"
"To tell you the truth... I don't like her. I've just... got a bad feeling. Maybe we should be a little more careful around her... at least till we know what she's really here for."
[Koko agrees. Shayna feels reassured and lightens up a bit.]
"Really? You don't think I'm... you know, crazy?"
[soft laugh. Koko compliments Shayna about being trustworthy. Shayna grins and gives Koko a small nudge]
"Aww, thanks, Leader. You're the best."
[Shayna meets a guy at a dinner party and flirts with him. While seductive, it shouldn't sound unusual for the character - not too deep or sultry, and more towards a playful, controlled eagerness]
"Wow, haha, that was fun! You're a really good dancer."
"Oh yeah? Leaving already...? Don't you wanna... stay a little while? Just keep me company for a little bit... it gets so lonely out here once the party's over..."

Basil is Cassia’s brave but boneheaded brother who is always looking for ways to make himself into a hero and write his name into the history books - even if it gets himself killed. He joins Team Koko and Cassia on their journeys after leaving their home island to seek his fortune.
Personality:
Basil is the comedic relief and muscle. Basil has the fearlessness of a hero, but unfortunately can be as dumb as bricks. He’s brash and unafraid to speak his mind - which makes him extremely blunt and can come across as extremely obtuse or dismissive. He might sound insulting, but don’t worry, he doesn’t actually mean anything by it.
Background:
Like Cassia, Basil was born in a small island village in Mai’ila. Closer to his father growing up, Basil aced his coming-of-age ceremony by wrestling a dire boar and taking it back home to eat it for dinner later - and would later wear its tusks as a trophy. He thinks himself as better than his sister, who always seems to get everyone’s respect and kind words - but regardless, he cares about her a great deal, even if he doesn’t show it in conventional ways.
Voice Notes:
In terms of speech patterns and sense of humour, Basil is based a lot on Drax from Guardians Of The Galaxy, with a very blunt delivery and personality. Example: [1] - [2]
As for the quality of voice, I’ve found a liking to a similar voice to Max Mittelman’s performances, namely how the performance can be both very monotone and blunt but also overreactive and exaggerated. Examples: [1] - [2] - [3]
Being able to deliver lines with both a monotone and exaggerated delivery will be key to nailing Basil’s character. Best of luck!
[talking to a bandit he was supposed to fight]
"Now you see, normally, I'd have to smash your face in. Buuut, today's a bad day for me."
[pulls out a written schedule]
"You see this? I've been doing this wellness routine lately, and it says that today... is a self-care day. I gotta go for a nice walk in nature, then a cold swim in the ocean afterwards. It's pretty good, you should try it. But anyway, yeah. Go home and come back tomorrow so you can get a proper ass beating."
[bandit insults him, leading to Basil getting offended and fighting him anyway. He sounds half pissed off and half parroting something from memory]
"DAMN IT! Just one day, can you clowns stop getting in my way?! Come on! I'd kick your ass harder, but all I had today was a healthy, well-balanced breakfast consisting of nuts and berries, topped off with a nutritious green tea!!"
[talking absentmindedly in front of the others. Note: Cassia is vegetarian.]
"Just you watch. One day I'm gonna be chief of our island, and then I can eat all the meat I could ever want. Boar, chicken, eggs..."
[Miko: "Eggs aren't meat, dumbass." Basil looks at her like she's an idiot, with a look of pity and bafflement.]
"Are you stupid? Of course they're meat. Chickens come from them, don't they? If they aren't meat, why doesn't my sister eat them? Honestly..."
[Miko: "You need to stop pissing me off."]
"What you need to do, is to get a bigger brain the next time you talk to me. Instead of a bigger..." [waves his hand in Miko's general direction] "...everything else that you've clearly focused your efforts on."
[pumped up and ready to fight a monster ten times larger than him. It swats him away like an insect and he slams into a wall, bleeding. He laughs loudly.]
"HA! HAHAHA! Is that all you got?!" [coughs up blood] "I've slipped on rocks that hit harder than you!"
[filled with adrenaline and jumps into the fight]
"Come on you big ugly bastard! COME ON! RAAAARGH!"
