RWBY: REMNANTS [Fanmade Illustrated Video Series]

Project Overview

Note: Given the fact this is an Aternate Universe, some characters are different from their official portrayals and the plot is vastly detached from canon events. As such, familiarity with the official show is not a strict requirement, and any talent not familiar with RWBY are still welcome to try out for roles!

ABOUT

Welcome!

RWBY: REMNANTS is a non-profit fanwork of RWBY, with two videos that currently have over 70,000 total views on YouTube within the past week, and counting. It is an AU re-imagining of the world of Remnant and Team RWBY's journey, told through nonlinear videos containing detailed illustrations accompanied by music and voice acting, each new update offering a new glimpse into the lives of the cast that the viewer must piece together. The video format is similar to an illustrated audiobook or fandub comic.

In an alternate retelling of Remnant, the great Goddess of the moon was broken, creating the three Gifts of Aura, Dust and Semblance; and the Curse of death: the Grimm. The story of REMNANTS follows two generations of Hunters, Teams STRQ and RWBY, as the latter continues the fight against the darkness that Team STRQ failed to defeat. Team RWBY must unravel STRQ's past while at the same time tackling their own unique trials and forge their still uncertain friendship together.

All the artwork and video production will be done by myself, SYTOkun, but solid VA work is needed to bring the characters to life. Currently 3/4 of Team RWBY are already casted, but I am still looking for certain roles to fill for future planned videos.

This project is unpaid, and is purely a passion project. Please prioritise yourself and your time before considering joining, as I want you to have a smooth and enjoyable time working. I don't want anyone to inconvenience themselves or drag themselves, as I wouldn't want to go through that working on this as well.

This is a passion project for me, but a hobby nonetheless. I don't intend to make any sort of profit from REMNANTS, I mostly just want to share my RWBY story with the fandom. Knowing how much work goes into drawing for my videos, I want to respect the work VAs and other contributors put in as well, so I will likewise be pretty chill about recording deadlines.

DEADLINE

Listed deadline is soft, as this is a hobby I am doing as a passion project when I'm not doing my webtoon job, though I do hope to have most of the roles I need cast by next month (Nov. 2020).

WHAT TO EXPECT

Every role that is voice acted can expect to see their character illustrated and drawn by me and compiled into a video update, expanding the world of REMNANTS.

Voice actors and contributors for a video will be credited fully at the end of each video and in the description.

I recommend communicating through Discord, as that is where I am most active. There will be a server for REMNANTS, as well as a separate group for just the voice actors. Nonetheless, I don't mind reaching you another way (email, CCC, etc.) as I will only be communicating when I need something voice acted for a script I have. I make sure that the VA for the role is available before going ahead with any script, and will rotate/adjust my updates depending on who is most available to record for that update.

WORK ETHIC

As a VA, once you receive a script I normally give about a week from that day as a soft deadline, while I go ahead and draw the stuff needed for the video. It can likely be more than a week depending on how much there is to draw, but having the voice lines ready for editing when I need them helps a lot.

I don't confirm work until I have a script ready, though I try to synchronise them based on who is available, so I can draw the artwork for that script first.

Please submit clean recordings with minimal background noise. I can do simple noise reduction and mixing, but that's by no means my forte, and I will need relatively clean recordings for best results either way, especially where multiple characters are involved.

You can cut or take as many times as you wish, though it's not necessary. 3 takes per line at most is fine. I recommend having each line as a separate file if possible, as it makes it easier for me to place them in the video and change timings. But if not, no biggie, I can separate your lines manually if needed.

I don't normally ask for retakes, but I do have a clear idea of the results I'm looking for. Please do not hesitate to ask me for feedback or specific directions upfront or at any stage of your recording on Discord - I will gladly oblige you so that both of us can work more smoothly.

EXTRA NOTES

  • Music is a huge part of REMNANTS, and I usually use it as my main inspiration when working on the project. The soundtrack that inspired me the most for it is the album The Moon And The Fool by Cold Kingdom. I've created a visual playlist matching each song in the playlist to a character or element in REMNANTS (formerly titled We Are The Hunt). If you are interested in REMNANTS or in contributing, you can take a look at it here to get a sense of the intended tone and underlying themes of the story.

  • Do be aware that once you are casted, you may not receive work until I write the script for a video that stars that character, so please be patient with me!

  • I prefer keeping one actor per role. While this is partly to allow some larger diversity in the range of voices in the cast, I also don't want to cram a VA with too many work demands for what's supposed to be a fun project.

  • All Beacon students in REMNANTS are aged up one year, making Beacon more akin to a college. Yang would be 18 years old, Ruby would be 16 years old, etc.

  • There will be some romance in this series, so do know what you're getting into. These include Rosegarden (Oscar x Ruby), Hummingbird (Qrow x Summer) and Phoenix (Taiyang x Raven).

  • All audition lines are not indicative of final script or story, but are still true to the character's portrayal.

Thank you for reading, and have a great day!

Latest Updates

  • Auditioner Thank You Video!

Thank you to everyone who auditioned! I've made a video thanking everyone by name. Until next round! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgWJ3OilCKk&feature=youtu.be
  • Casting Round 1 Complete!

The first round of casting for REMNANTS is complete! Thank you to everyone who kindly auditioned, but the show's not done yet. Look out on my YouTube channel, as I will be making a special thank-you video naming everyone who's submitted an audition. I also intend to try and offer comments and feedback to as many people as I can to the other auditioners. Until next time, look out for more auditions and roles under REMNANTS, and happy hunting!
  • Deadline extended to 21st November

Deadline for auditions has been extended to the 21st of November, 4 days from the initial deadline, to accommodate any last-minute submissions and new auditioners. If you are interested in Remnants and couldn't catch a role, not to worry! More audition rounds for new roles are likely to open down the line, so keep an eye out by either following my profile or on my channel's Discord server!
  • Final Casting Phase and Remaining Roles (6)

Hello everyone, I have casted most of the characters whom I felt I found the best candidates for, while the rest are still being decided. I have also added some extra notes to them after understanding the roles and the range of VA talent more, namely for accents. If you are able or know someone who can take a crack at it, send them this way! If needed, I will either extend the deadline or reserve some roles for a second round of auditions with more characters added to the roster. Remaining roles are: Summer Rose (American accent, versatile voice able to act as a young lady and adult) Glynda Goodwitch (English accent, mature, adult voice) Raven Branwen (Irish, Welsh or Icelandic accent, deep and harsh voice) Headmaster Ozpin (Slight English accent, there are many auditioners already but I am still open for an audition to sway my opinion) Mercury Black (New York or Londoner, Cockney accent, tough and confident voice) Neopolitan (no spoken lines, able to emote well only using nonverbal communication like grunts and laughs) Best of luck!
  • Update for Upcoming Video Content (Singing)

To all VAs auditioning, in particular for Blake and perhaps other major characters such as Cinder, you may be invited to sing an acapella version of original songs created for REMNANTS. There is currently finished lyrics for an "opening song" for the series itself, as well as character themes for Weiss, Blake, Yang and Adam, with more original songs to come. Each character's VA is planned to sing their own song, where possible. You by no means at all have to be trained or professional, this is just a heads up in case you are interested in singing your own character's theme song, and is purely for fun (or to flex your choir/karaoke skills). I have been directing Weiss' VA for her character song and we had a fun time throughout! (lots of bottles of water were consumed by both sides) If you're not interested or don't want to sing, that's fine too! It's not mandatory, so this is just a heads-up for auditioners so they know what they can participate in. Best of luck.

Blake Belladonna

Role assigned to: marsyourva

Blake is a former member of a renegade organisation foreign to the walls of Vale, and has committed many sins in the name of peace and justice. Haunted by her past, she seeks refuge in Beacon as a way to atone for her past, fleeing from the only family and home she ever knew. She soon joins the protagonists and forms Team RWBY.

Compared to the show, Blake here is less snarky and is more withdrawn and shy, with a certain uncertainty in her voice, but will speak boldly if she sees someone being treated unfairly or bullied. She has a certain raspy yet gentle quality to her voice, like a caged bird covering itself with prickly armour. Under her guarded exterior is a very empathetic and friendly soul, kept hidden behind walls built up to protect herself from a world that has only ever treated her as the other. She also loves reading books and spending time in serene introspection.

EDIT: As an alternate optional take, consider giving her a very subtle French accent.

Blake's character song, for reference. Picture it as a duet between her (black text) and Adam (red text).

Full version of the song above (credits to Cold Kingdom).

  • [Vulnerable, reminiscing and speaking of her desires to someone she trusts in Team RWBY]

"All I wanted was family. All I wanted was to do what was right. That day, on the train… I had to choose between these two. Maybe I was right to choose the right thing. But family… it was all I ever had."

  • [Fighting alongside Team RWBY during a class competition. During the heat of the moment, she becomes more spontaneous and speaks more openly and confidently to her teammates. Her voice is raised, pumping with adrenaline, hoping their team makes the test.]

"I've got this next one, you three go ahead!"

"Weiss, look out! I've got your back!"

"Come on Ruby, you can do this!"

  • [At peace, relaxing with Ruby in their Beacon dorm room. They are both quite good friends by this time.]

*soft laugh* "Ruby, I don’t think you should be reading books like those."

[nervous realization, then turning slightly frantic] "Wait… is that mine? G-Give it back, please!"

Role assigned to: xxxRachliaxxx

Summer is an idealistic warrior of near unmatched skill and tenacity from Team STRQ. Though not as hyperactive as her daughter, she shares the same fiery spirit. She's headstrong and can be quite stubborn, but nonetheless a very understanding person who will always try to resonate with someone emotionally.

Her voice has a "female protagonist" sound to it - earnest, spunky and a little quirky - and regardless of age, carries a gentle, motherly tone, like a mother comforting a crying child; but also prone to bouts of excitement and goofiness, especially with her younger self - though she doesn't lose much of her youthful energy into her adulthood.

Her young and adult voice should sound similar if not the same, but with perhaps a slightly higher pitch in her younger voice.

Summer's character song, for reference.

Comic page of Summer meeting Qrow.

  • [Adult Summer. Motherly, comforting Ruby, crying for her to stay home]

"Go to sleep, my little rose. Mommy promises that she’ll be back before you even know it. It’s just another mission. A very important one…"

  • [Adult Summer. Confronting a disillusioned Raven before her final mission; pleading, but understanding, not forceful]

"Raven, you may doubt yourself, or our mission… but I still believe in you. I know being a Huntress is to give yourself up to the world, the people… I understand why you feel like it’s not worth it. But I can’t fight this alone either. Not without you. Will you follow me?"

  • [Young Summer. Greeting a moody-looking Qrow by joking around - playful, jovial]

*small laugh* "So~? What happened this time, hotshot? A loose button? Fallen ice cream? Or a cat tried to catch you in bird form--" *big laugh* "Look at your face! It’s the last one, isn’t it?!"

Role assigned to: MagnusVA

Qrow was the bad boy of Beacon back during his student years, who would later join Summer to form Team STRQ. He has a rebellious yet mysterious tone of voice, often dead serious one moment and snarky the next. He acts like he has something to hide, being deliberate with his words, but responds with biting remarks instead of any sort of paranoia or insecurity. His story involves meeting eyes with a young Summer Rose during initiation and cementing their unsteady partnership.

Both he and his sister were part of a tribe who lived beyond Vale, but when he arrived at Vale, he adapted to the city life quickly.

Auditioners should expect to also voice adult Qrow, but young Qrow is more prominent. He would not have the same amount of gravelly texture in his voice during his teen years, having a more sharp voice, but nonetheless carries the same roguish, devil-may-care behaviour.

Sketch of young Qrow.

Comic page of Summer meeting Qrow.

  • [Young Qrow. Qrow meets the silver-eyed girl he heard so much about, Summer. For all the hype surrounding her, she seems pretty clumsy to end up having him run over and save her...]

    "You're welcome."

[Summer protests, saying she didn't need help.]

"Is that how you treat someone who saved you? Are all Vale girls as dense as you?"

  • [Young Qrow. This Summer girl won't leave Qrow alone, and now she wants to be teammates. Annoying...]

"Not interested. If I had to save your twinkly butt, I'm not gonna be on your team."

[Summer: "Then who else are you gonna team with, wise guy??"]

"My sister, that's who I'm lookin' for. She's the best warrior I know, would kick your ass ten times over."

  • [Adult Qrow. Replying a surprised Ruby, as he is in Beacon for a while as a substitute teacher]

"What does it look like, kiddo? I’ve graduated from Signal! From teaching a bunch of brats… to teaching annoying, hormonally charged brats."

Cinder Fall

Role assigned to: Rose Petal

A mysterious, charismatic girl who recently enrolled into Beacon. She is classmates with Team RWBY and interacts with them almost daily.

This version of Cinder is much more morally ambiguous. It should not be clear to someone who has never watched RWBY (or better yet, an actual RWBY viewer) whether she is a villain or not. She is an up-and-coming star student at Beacon, surrounded by friends and admirers, incredibly friendly, charismatic and approachable, particularly towards Ruby - yet there is a definite aura of tragedy about her whenever she is away from the crowd and talks about her past, something she doesn't like talking about, but seems to trust a very select few with.

Cinder's personality is mysterious yet approachable. Her voice actor will need to be versatile enough to play her as an approachable and accomplished model student; an emotionally vulnerable young woman; and a person whose actions and words sometimes let slip an undertone of calculated malice. There needs to be a certain mix of youthfulness but also maturity to her voice, like a bright young woman who was forced to grow up too fast, through unspoken hardships.

Cinder's character song, for reference.

Another reference for Cinder (though, please don't take it as her accurate backstory)

Full versions of Cinder's character songs above. Surrender by Cold Kingdom and Whispers by LifeForce.

  • [Talking to Team RWBY. Some of them (particularly Yang) don't really like her, but Ruby is friendly. Cinder tries to be friendly with them all regardless.]

"Heeyy, you guys. Heading out for a bite? Hey, why don't we hit the town and grab some pizza instead? My treat, of course!"

  • [Socialising/joking around in the cafeteria. Mercury boasts about how he pranked someone in a gross way, Cinder laughs along grossed out, and playfully jabs at him.]

*laugh* "You did what, Mercury? I can’t believe it, you’re so disgusting. Get off my team!"

  • [talking with Ruby in private, about their mothers. They're both sitting at a stairwell or on the roof together after school. She sounds soft and wistful, almost bitter.]

"You lost your mother too. I see… I don’t remember my mother much either… but I remember she was loving... kind… She was like an angel, an angel who carried me into this pitch black, unloving world..."

[reverts slightly to her more happy voice, but not drastically] *laughs* "Sorry. Got a little dark there... I should be keeping the bad poetry in the diary, haha..."

Oscar

Role assigned to: k33gAn

A humble boy and protégé of Headmaster Ozpin. Expected to have a different surname from the show for story reasons.

Would sound more or less as he does in RWBY. He has a very "male protagonist" type voice. His voice has a quality of earnesty, and while often unsure and awkward, belies a sense of resolve and a sharp mind beneath. Oscar is often clumsy and uncertain of himself, but slowly grows to become more confident in himself as he continues his apprenticeship under Ozpin and watches Team RWBY's exploits.

Oscar will be quite prominent in the series, so his voice acting requires some decent versatility, able to act in awkward, brave and frantic situations alike.

A drawing of a slightly older Oscar, after he's begun to settle into his role as Ozpin's protégé.

  • [Doing work by Ozpin's side, nervously holding books close to his chest and nodding at everything Ozpin says. Sounds like he's balancing five tasks at once and is unable to keep up with the current one.]

"Y-Yes Headmaster! Sorry Headmaster. I'll get these to the library right away." *panics* "Wh... Where is the library again...?"

  • [Oscar runs into Ruby in the hallway, both of them falling to the floor, scattering Oscar's stacks of books and paperwork onto the floor. He is nervous and awkward, having never really talked to girls much before.]

"Oh gosh... oh man, I'm so sorry!" [Ruby tries to help] "N-No! I've got it, seriously!"

[they both calm down and Ruby introduces herself]

"Me? Oh. I'm just nobody special, really..." *meek laugh* "I'm Oscar. The Headmaster- I mean, Professor Ozpin took me in, as a... well, not a student... not really as a staff member either... I'm not sure what I'm here for, really..." *awkward laugh*

[Extra context - Ruby laughs, replying: "Yep, that kinda sounds like Professor Ozpin alright..."]

  • [During a Grimm attack. Sounds panicked and has to raise his voice over the chaos happening around him, but gathers his courage to go out and try to save whoever he can.]

"The Grimm have breached the first line! Headmaster, get back!"

"Everyone else, follow me! The shelter is this way, come on!"

Ozpin's right hand and trusted aide. A strict veteran teacher at Beacon with a stern yet refined voice. Able to bear down on hapless students with barely-contained frustration in one moment, before sighing exasperatedly, sitting down with them and offering them calm and down-to-earth advice the next.

Has a no-nonsense tone of voice, and should sound decidedly "adult", speaking her words clearly and without falter.

EDIT: For those further auditioning for Glynda, an English accent is preferred, thank you!

Sketch of Glynda Goodwitch.

  • [To Ozpin, both of them interrogating a Blake who has just entered Vale as a fugitive from beyond the city. Her tone is skeptical, incredulous. This isn't the first crazy risk the Headmaster has made on a prospective student, and it can be infuriating knowing it often falls to you to clean it up.]

"You are making a mistake, Headmaster. This girl is a fugitive. She was caught right at the border! And you wish to let her just sit down and study with your students?"

  • [Alongside Prof. Oobleck, facing a large Grimm attack. She is calm and composed, making some light banter while preparing to attack, as if she's done this many times before.]

"This would not be the craziest situation I’ve found myself in, Professor Oobleck. And I suspect this year promises crazier yet."

  • [Addressing Team RWBY's class, as part of Combat Training 101. Her tone is composed, yet almost poetic, like she knows this from experience so well it's like she's narrating from the tales of her memory.]

"One essential lesson of being in a team, is learning that not only do you have to work around your teammates’ weaknesses… but with them; and cover their flaws with your gifts. Hold each other up -- if each of you have your backs to each other, then you are less likely to fall over, correct?"

Raven Branwen

Role assigned to: Maia Harlap

This Raven differs greatly from her canon counterpart. Raven and her brother Qrow were former members of a tribe of raiders who lived far beyond the walls of Vale. Qrow was always the more streetsmart and smooth-talking of the two, while she only cared about the path of a warrior, immersing herself in tradition and ceremony for her tribe. This would create a very cold, aloof personality at Beacon, incredibly skilled in combat but completely tactless when speaking to others.

She would later abandon Vale and Team STRQ for unknown reasons, becoming a fugitive and a wanderer, travelling the world and taking whatever she deems worth taking.

For Raven's voice, I imagine her having a very noticeable, distinct accent, painting her clearly as someone far from Vale, as someone who is a proud warrior, or someone who has travelled along the coasts and has dealt with seediest underworlds and black markets across Remnant. This is true for both her young and adult selves.

Do explore and include multiple accents in your takes that you think may suit her description.

Her voice should be relatively deep and mature-sounding regardless of age. She has a somewhat unfeeling voice without a hint of humour or vulnerability, sounding aloof at times, as if very few things can faze her, but still not too monotone. Her voice is strong and commanding, but not loud or boisterous; rather it makes you feel threatened by her without her actually showing explicit hostility. This is a person who could kill you if she wanted to, she just doesn't have any reason to at the moment.

She would sound essentially identical as a teenager to her adult self, always sounding mature for her age.

EDIT: For those further auditioning for Raven, her accent would be Irish, Welsh or Icelandic, whichever you are proficient with.

Sketch of young Raven during Beacon, wearing her warrior's armour crafted from Grimm bones.

Adult Raven, atop her battleship.

  • [Adult Raven. To Ruby. Wistful though bitter towards Summer's death]

"I admired your mother’s conviction, I do. But when I saw her frail body, drained of her life and joy… I knew this was not the life I wanted. She chose to give up her life, and died a completely different person. A ghost. I will never make that same mistake she did."

  • [Adult Raven. To Yang, emotional. Full of conviction but with a hint of remorse]

"There is always a choice! Between life and death, freedom and servitude… My daughter… or the whole world. I would never expect you to understand, Yang, but I always hoped you did. Because now the skies belong to me… and they can be yours, too."

  • [Adult Raven. To a member of RWBY or STRQ, stating her grand mission]

"I will watch the Kingdoms burn. I will have everything. And I will divide their spoils, their glory, their ashes… with whomever I please. And all those I find worthy will live to witness my new Dawn. A world with no Kingdoms; no grand, noble struggle… and no more pointless suffering."

Taiyang Xiao Long

Role assigned to: Aliake-VA

Contrary to his appearances, Taiyang wasn't always the friendly dad figure he is now. As a student in Beacon, he was loud, boisterous, and always itching to start a fight. He not only was strong, but also had a strange charisma and bravado to him due to his overconfidence. He was always confident of his ability to fight and brawl it out, and was always eager to prove so, whether on a Grimm or fellow student - or even a teacher if they pissed him off enough. He was even bold enough to call himself the "King Of Beacon", and didn't particularly care if it was actually true or not.

He would obviously mellow out after leaving Beacon and raising a family, but nonetheless he still has the heart of a lion kept neatly under wraps. As long as Yang doesn't find the photos...

Tai's voice here is considerably deeper than canon, even as a teen, and leaves a lot of leeway for voice interpretation. He's more of a delinquent and loose cannon as a student, but is still prone to making really bad jokes and embarrassing himself from time to time, especially when it comes to trying to flirt with or impress that ice-cold Raven chick.

Sketch of young Taiyang for reference.

Some extra reference for young Tai's general demeanour and personality (Sett from League Of Legends). Less the tone of voice, moreso the choice of words and delivery.

  • [Young Tai. Relaxing at class while boasting about himself in a matter-of-fact way.]

"I'm always looking for a fight. It keeps things interesting. They don't call me the King Of Beacon 'cause I sit on my ass all day."

  • [Young Tai to Qrow. Angry, offended and itching to punch someone.]

"What did you say to me, Bird Boy?! You wanna take this outside??"

  • [Young Tai to Raven, attempting to flirt with the girl with the cold demeanour, trying and failing to get his charm on.]

"Aww, come on Ravey, you gonna give me the ol' cold shoulder again?"

[she ignores him. "Don't call me that."]

"Pft, don't be like that. You're stuck with me, and I'm stuck with you - as a team, y'know? At least I'm smart enough to enjoy it. I'd enjoy me, too."

The enigmatic Headmaster of Beacon Academy.

He has a measured, sagelike voice, and sounds like he has seen and done everything. He speaks with authority and firm conclusion. He has the bearings of a wise old man or mentor. Like a stranger met upon a crossroads, an old man passing by, offering advice.

Does not have to sound like the show, but should exhibit these traits. Voice can be deeper or of equal tone to the original.

  • [Bargaining with Blake, after having caught her trying to enter Vale from beyond the city. He sounds measured, careful, but also considerate towards Blake's choice and safety.]

"Miss Belladonna, I offer you a choice. You can return the way you came, no questions asked, back to the battlefield you escaped from… or you can take refuge here. Become a Huntress. Fight for Vale. Just know... that if you accept, your former allies will now be your enemies."

  • [Speaking to General Ironwood privately regarding a certain incident long ago. He sounds serious, with a hint of regret.]

"I would advise caution, General. Summer Rose was not the only Hunter to die on that tragic day. Many good souls were lost, from my side… and yours. I suggest a more subtle approach this time. Only strike when we are absolutely certain of it."

  • [Interacting with Oscar. Relaxed, lighthearted and polite. He should sound like he takes quite a liking to Oscar and values what he says.]

"Ah, there you are, Oscar. No, I don't need anything, thank you."

[Oscar talks about work that he needs to do.]

"Hm... why don't you take the rest of day off? You've yet to fully tour Vale since you arrived, it would be a shameful opportunity to waste on a day as nice as this, yes?" *chuckles*

A Vale boy known for causing street fights and being a general disruption to society. Was arrested before given a second chance by a certain Headmaster to reform himself at Beacon Academy. "Beats jail I guess. Let's see how much trouble I can cause over there."

Merc is an asshole. And he swears a lot. Has a competitive rivalry with Yang. He's sarcastic, blunt and doesn't really give a shit about you. His voice should sound like a delinquent, but not too "angry" sounding, more cocky.

EDIT: Auditioners can experiment with giving him an accent in order to accentuate his troublemaking city-boy personality. They would be in the range of either a New Yorker (Brooklyn/Boston) or a Londoner (e.g. Cockney) accent.

Mercury and Emerald's character song.

  • [Emerald asks Mercury to move from her seat, which he is leisurely sitting in. He looks indifferent.]

"Mm... nah. Go sit somewhere else, snitch."

[Emerald raises her voice. Mercury acts with mock-fear.]

"Oh no, I'm so scared. Whatever the hell am I gonna do?? Sit harder?" *chuckles to himself*

  • [Mercury is in a group project with some random students. He grows tired of how tedious it is, thinking their ideas are stupid/unreasonable, and gets up to skip out on his duties.]

"You cannot make me do this shit. I'm outta here."

[Mercury walks away. One of the students calls him names to get him to come back, which stings a bit, but he dismisses them with annoyance and walks off, muttering to himself.]

    "Tch. Fuck off."

  • [Mercury is chilling with Yang. They decided to skip class to go around town, and are drinking on a bridge somewhere. Yang risks getting into trouble since Merc is still  technically on parole, but does it anyway. While talking, Yang tells him a funny story about school.]

*laughs loudly* "You serious, they actually make you do that?! This school's a freaking clowncar emporium." [she laughs along, talking some more.] "Psh, yeah, tell me about it."

[Mercury takes a big chug out of his ambiguously alcoholic drink. He exhales loudly with relief, finally able to relax after a while.]

A street rat who's had to fight tooth and nail to survive, stealing from any person stupid enough to dupe. After being caught alongside a stupid brawler who ruined her clean getaway, they were both offered a chance by some headmaster guy to reform themselves by enrolling into Beacon Academy.

Em is kind of an asshole, though not as much as Merc. She sounds like she is constantly disinterested or dismissive, and is prone to making sarcastic remarks. She can also be pretty two-faced, feigning enthusiasm and happiness for things she doesn't give two craps about. She is intelligent and observant, but is often too constantly annoyed by everything to really spend time making profound conclusions. Her voice has a certain "bitchy school rival" or "dead-end convenience store cashier who's dead inside" drawl to it, but not too strong. She should still sound quite alert and self-aware.

Emerald and Mercury's character song.

  • [Eating lunch with Mercury and Cinder. She talks about a team exercise that she was doing with Merc, which they both failed.]

"So, yeah. That last test was going about so-so, up until this bozo had to go and make us lose."

[While she's talking, Mercury steals some of her food and eats it in front of her.]

    "You are... such an asshole."

  • [Annoyed at Mercury for sitting in her seat at class.]

"Hey. Meat-for-brains. Get off my seat." [Mercury dismisses her. She raises her voice annoyed, but does not outright shout.] "HEY. GET OFF MY SEAT, DICKHEAD."

[Mercury refuses, mocking her. Emerald scoffs/groans in a very exasperated, "I wish I could make your ass un-exist, but I need to control myself" manner. Again, raised voice but not shouted. Contained rage. She takes another seat instead.]

    "UGH."

  • [Emerald is talking to Cinder. Cinder reassures her about doing something she's not sure about. Emerald is uncertain, and her usual snarkiness is not present, as she is more relaxed and positive around Cinder.]

"I don't know... you really think I should go for it?"

[Cinder agrees. Emerald laughs abit, though it's more of the exhale-through-the-nose sort of laugh. She smiles to herself, somewhat serene.]

    "...Thanks."

Role assigned to: Birdietrax

A mute criminal with violent tendencies.

While she has no speaking lines, she still emotes using grunts, laughs and sadistic mannerisms. Try to communicate that she is mischievous, snarky and just a little bit crazy.

EDIT: Some extra notes for the voice being looked for:

- relatively high pitched, young voice

- a sing-song, playful tone to her voice (when not angry) which then is contrasted by a sort of unhinged tone when with intense emotion

- some vocal/personality reference would be a nonverbal version of Harley Quinn, or Jinx from League of Legends. The challenge would be to capture that sort of variation and energy without using words.

  • [Is about to set fire to something, or someone.]

    *mischievous giggle*

  • [Just got one-upped by Mercury when she wasn't looking.]

*frustrated grunt, followed by a pouty "hmph"*

  • [Someone tries to take away something dear to her.]

*angry snarl, followed by a sharp growl, almost like a cornered dog warning you before trying to bite.*

Weiss' Father

Role assigned to: Choze

A powerful man from the cold and icy mountaintops, and Weiss' father. Different from his official counterpart, so no prior research needed.

Severe, unpitying and distant, Father is a figure scarcely understood, even by his own family. Born into the Schnee dynasty, a bloodline known for raising powerful children through rigorous training, he was raised through constant war with the monstrous Grimm, and rose from it with a spirit of cold steel, and a frozen heart, becoming a renowned leader and tactician. He does not hesitate to use people as tools if it means destroying the Grimm and immortalising the great name of his dynasty. And his children? They are his weapons - his most potent tools.

Thousands heed Father's word because he has saved them from the darkness, it is only fair that he asks for their loyalty in return, and they do not question. He is an intelligent, composed man with an appreciation for the arts and all knowledge mundane and esoteric, raising his children to appreciate the same. He believes his family is one of the very few people strong enough to not only oppose the darkness, but also to surpass it, so he expects everything from them.

Father has a voice that is meant to demand respect and order. He is meticulous, cold and domineering. He expects no sympathy, and offers none in return. He expects no excuses, only results. He speaks his words clearly and with purpose, and does not expect to repeat them.

Father overseeing operations of a Dust mine in the frigid mountains, his shoulders wreathed with a cloak adorned with the bones of the monsters he has slain.

Reference for Father's demeanour and personality (Swain from League of Legends).

  • [Overseeing a young Weiss' studies. She goes to him, asking a question about something she doesn't know.]

"Questions seeking answers from others are for those who lack the brain to search it themselves. We have a library, don't we? When you find the answer, you shall speak from your own intelligence, not mine. Understand?"

  • [Observing Weiss' training from above. She's only a child here. She is tired, pushed to her limit, and pleads for him to let her rest. He speaks to her from a raised platform, looking down at her.]

“Weiss. Why do you grovel there, seeking for rest where there is none?”

“If you cannot endure even this, and more still... what hope does our great name have for our future? What daughter of mine could you even call yourself?”

  • [Commanding soldiers against a Grimm attack. Speaking with an authoritative, raised voice.]

"Push against these beasts, you weaklings! Bring them to me; I want their bones on my new coat by sundown!"

May need someone with experience in audio mixing to help clean up and properly adjust sound levels for the VA lines and music - along with possibly mixing sound effects in future videos. Not a high priority as I can do some very rudimentary mixing myself, but having a proper standard for audio would be very good for the project and helps me be a little bit more ambitious with what content I can execute, like action shots and immersive background audio.
