Soulsuck

Soulsuck

Project Overview

WARNINGS: This position is UNPAID until monetization is increased and this project does include swearing and gore, not heavily but enough to put some people off (No where near the likes of Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss).

Soulsuck is a chaotic series following Fade as they move to the newly opened town of Blossomshire, meeting new people, getting into stupid situations, and generally trying to survive life. But underneath all the chaos, something is seriously wrong. After Fade reaches their tenth death and somehow comes back, they and their friends begin uncovering a much darker mystery surrounding the Soul Tree, Soulkey, the Core, the Admin, and a forgotten event known as The Incident. What starts as a ridiculous Minecraft adventure gradually becomes a strange, unsettling mystery about why their world works the way it does, and what happens when the rules of death start breaking.

Genre: Minecraft comedy / mystery / sci-fi-ish lore

Tone: Chaotic and fun on the surface, gradually darker and more mysterious.

Fade

Fade is a chaotic, immature but well-meaning person who moves to Blossomshire for a fresh start. They're energetic, impulsive, easily distracted and often act before thinking, but genuinely care about others. Their ADHD affects their attention and can leave them completely hyperfocused on things that interest them. They often underestimate how dark people can be, getting themselves into trouble along the way. Fade isn't a perfect hero, just someone trying to make friends, enjoy life and figure things out. However, when they reach their tenth death and respawn anyway, their curiosity and determination draw them into the mystery surrounding Soulsuck.

Voice Direction: A masculine-leaning, gender-neutral British voice. Fade should sound naturally funny, slightly sarcastic and conversational, with dry humour, quick reactions, occasional rambling and unpredictable bursts of chaos. They shouldn't be constantly loud or exaggerated, but the ability to shout and scream convincingly is important for moments of panic and dramatic reactions. The voice actor must also handle quieter dialogue, confusion, frustration and serious emotional scenes naturally. Aim for a distinctive, expressive voice with strong comedic timing that feels like a real person. Don't force an androgynous sound.

  • Okay, right, new house, new town, new life. This is gonna be great. Probably. I mean, I’ve already forgotten where I put my pickaxe, so we’re off to a fantastic start.

  • I died. Again. Okay, whatever. It’s fine. I’ve got, like, nine more lives or something. That’s future Fade’s problem. Current Fade has mining to do.

  • Wait... tenth? No, no, no. That can’t be right. I’ve died ten times. So why am I still here?

Role assigned to: TableForOne

Alex is one of the residents of Ol' Vincey's Retirement Home. He's likeable, easy to get along with, and generally pretty chill, but not so laid-back that he feels completely detached from what's happening around him. He can be relaxed and casual in normal conversations while still getting excited, annoyed, or invested when something catches his attention. Alex is autistic, but this shouldn't define his entire performance or personality. He should feel like a genuine person first, with his own interests, humour, reactions, and way of interacting with others. He's also really into rock music, which is one of his more noticeable interests.

Voice Direction:
Looking for a youthful masculine voice with a naturally relaxed and conversational tone. Medium to medium-low pitch, with a comfortable and likeable quality.

The performance should feel natural and understated rather than overly energetic or exaggerated. Alex should sound chill without being monotone or uninterested, and should be able to become more energetic when he's excited or invested in something. He should work well for casual conversations, comedy, and more genuine moments.

Avoid making him sound overly serious, extremely laid-back, or like a stereotypical "cool guy" character. The goal is for him to sound like an actual teenager/young person who happens to be pretty chill and easy to get along with.

Role assigned to: Papercut

We're looking for an Audio Engineer to help with the audio production of the Soulsuck Pilot.

The pilot is primarily a fun, energetic Minecraft adventure, following Fade as they move to Blossomshire, meet the new residents, visit an old friend, and get themselves into the usual Minecraft nonsense. However, the final Soul Tree scene suddenly shifts into a much more tense and mysterious atmosphere.

The Audio Engineer will take the recorded voice acting, music, sound effects, and ambience and turn them into a clean, cohesive audio track for the finished pilot.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Clean and edit voice recordings.

  • Remove background noise, clicks, pops, and other unwanted sounds where possible.

  • Balance dialogue, music, sound effects, and ambience.

  • Sync audio with the pilot's animation/footage.

  • Add appropriate audio processing and effects to voices.

  • Help create the tonal shift during the final Soul Tree scene.

  • Make sure dialogue remains clear and understandable.

  • Mix and master the completed pilot.

  • Work alongside the voice actors, composer, sound designer, animator, and editor.

  • Make revisions based on feedback.

You don't need expensive equipment or a professional studio. Good audio skills and clean, consistent work are more important than having fancy equipment.

Olympian

Olympian

Deferred: Profit Share
Role assigned to: Aidan van der Venne

Olympian is the owner and mayor of Blossomshire, and one of the more established figures in Fade’s life. He’s confident, friendly, and generally easygoing, with the kind of personality that makes him seem like he always knows what he’s doing, even when he absolutely doesn’t. He’s perfectly happy hanging around Fade and the others, and initially gets along well with them despite being a little more grounded.

Olympian is autistic, but this is simply one part of who he is. He can be blunt, particular, or approach situations differently from the people around him, but he’s still a funny, personable, and capable guy. He should feel like a genuine person first, rather than an exaggerated portrayal of an autistic character.

As the series progresses, Olympian becomes increasingly important to the story, particularly as his relationship with Fade and the others begins to change. For the pilot, however, he should primarily come across as a friendly town owner who genuinely seems to have Blossomshire under control.

Voice Direction: Looking for a youthful masculine voice with a natural, confident personality. The ideal voice should sound around 17-20, with a medium to medium-low pitch and a clear, conversational delivery. Olympian should sound relaxed and self-assured without becoming overly charismatic or “leader-like.” The actor should be comfortable with dry humour, casual dialogue, blunt observations, and moments of genuine seriousness. Avoid an exaggerated “nerd” voice or making the autism overly obvious through the performance. He should sound like a normal guy who just happens to be running a Minecraft town.

Role assigned to: JD "HallowVA" Conrad

Ralph is one of the first people Fade meets after moving to Blossomshire. He’s friendly, fairly laid-back, and easy to get along with, but he has a naturally odd sense of humour and a tendency to say whatever happens to cross his mind. He isn’t trying to be the funniest person in the room, and he doesn’t necessarily realise when what he says is funny. A lot of his humour comes from how casually he treats his own strange thoughts.

Ralph can be energetic and expressive when he has something to say, but he’s not constantly bouncing off the walls. He should feel like a genuine teenager with a slightly unusual personality rather than a walking comedy routine. His friendship with Fade should feel natural and comfortable, with Ralph being someone who can casually hang around them and contribute to the chaos without always being the source of it.

Voice Direction: Looking for a youthful masculine voice heavily inspired by young Jim Carrey, particularly his naturally nasal quality, youthful tone, and distinctive vocal character. The voice should have a clear, recognisable nasality without becoming overly nerdy, whiny, or cartoonish. Ralph should sound around 16-18, with a medium to medium-high pitch and a naturally expressive voice. The Jim Carrey influence should primarily come through the sound of the voice, not through exaggerated acting or comedic mannerisms. Keep the delivery conversational and believable, with occasional increases in energy when appropriate. Avoid doing a Jim Carrey impression. We're looking for a voice that sounds reminiscent of him while still clearly belonging to Ralph.

MIKE

Mike is Fade’s best friend and one of the more grounded people in the group. He’s random, thoughtful, kind, and genuinely tries to look out for the people around him. While he can be just as ridiculous as everyone else, Mike tends to approach situations with a little more thought than Fade, often becoming the person who has to react to whatever bizarre thing they’ve gotten themselves into.

Mike is autistic, which is a natural part of his character rather than his entire personality. He can sometimes struggle when confronted with unfamiliar social situations, particularly as Fade introduces him to more neurodivergent, queer, and complicated people. However, Mike genuinely wants to understand others and is willing to learn, even when he doesn’t always get it right immediately.

His friendship with Fade is one of the most important relationships in the series. Their dynamic should feel natural and lived-in, with plenty of casual teasing, dumb conversations, and genuine moments of friendship underneath the comedy.

Voice Direction: Looking for a youthful masculine voice that sounds around 16-18, with a natural and grounded quality. Mike should have a medium-range to medium-low pitch and a relaxed, conversational delivery. He shouldn’t sound overly heroic, dramatic, or exaggerated. The voice should work well for dry humour, awkward reactions, genuine warmth, and moments of confusion or frustration. Mike is generally calmer than Fade, but the actor should still be able to let his energy come through when something genuinely excites or surprises him. The most important thing is making him sound like a believable teenager rather than a stereotypical “nerdy” character.

Role assigned to: sanjuniperox

SOPHIE

Age: Teen
Gender: Female
Pronouns: She/Her

Sophie is one of Fade’s neighbours in Blossomshire and Fade’s ex. However, her relationship with Fade is not what defines her character.

Sophie is energetic, confident, outspoken, and initially comes across as genuinely likeable. She has a lively personality and can make a strong first impression, which is important because the pilot deliberately makes the audience think she might be a fun character to have around.

Then she starts talking.

Sophie is a bitch. She’s rude, abrasive, selfish, toxic, and generally unpleasant to be around. She can be casually cruel and has a tendency to say things that make it very obvious why people don't like her. She isn't secretly misunderstood or secretly nice. The audience is simply given a misleading first impression before her actual personality comes through.

For the pilot, the performance should make that change happen very quickly and naturally. Don't play her as obviously horrible from her first line. Let her initially sound energetic, friendly, and approachable, then allow the nastiness to creep through once she starts interacting with Fade.

The humour comes partly from that sudden shift in the audience's perception of her.

Voice Direction:
Looking for a youthful feminine raspy voice, around 16-18. Medium to medium-high pitch, naturally energetic and expressive. Sophie should sound confident and comfortable speaking her mind, with enough warmth and enthusiasm to make her initial impression believable.

She needs to be able to switch from seemingly friendly and upbeat to sarcastic, irritated, dismissive, or outright bitchy very quickly. The nastier side should feel natural rather than cartoonishly villainous.

Do not make her sound like a stereotypical mean girl. She should sound like a normal girl who just happens to be an absolutely outright horrible person.

Vincent is one of Fade’s old friends and lives in the local retirement home. Despite his age, he’s still pretty laid-back, friendly, and perfectly capable of keeping up with Fade’s nonsense.

He has a dry, casual sense of humour and treats the bizarre parts of life on the SMP as fairly normal. His conversations with Fade should feel like two people who have known each other for a long time, with comfortable banter rather than a formal “old man” dynamic.

Vincent is older, but do not play him as frail, senile, or stereotypically elderly. He should feel like an actual person who happens to be older. He can be sarcastic, amused, blunt, and occasionally surprisingly energetic.

Voice Direction:
Looking for an older masculine voice with a naturally mature but energetic tone. Medium to medium-low pitch, relaxed and conversational. Vincent should sound warm and approachable, with a dry quality that works well for comedy.

The performance should feel natural rather than exaggerated. Avoid an overly stereotypical “old man” voice, excessive raspiness, or making him sound incapable of keeping up with the younger characters. He should be able to deliver both casual comedy and quieter, more sincere moments naturally.

Scriptwriter

cast offsite

We're looking for Scriptwriters to help turn Soulsuck's story, characters, and lore into actual episode scripts.

Soulsuck is primarily a mystery and dark story set within Minecraft, with humour naturally woven into the characters and situations. The overall tone is closer to Glitch Productions' Murder Drones than a straightforward Minecraft comedy. The story can be funny one moment and genuinely unsettling or serious the next.

You don't need to make every scene funny. Humour is there because it fits the characters and world, not because every scene needs a joke. The mystery, characters, atmosphere, and overarching story should always come first.

Writers will work from episode ideas, character information, lore, plot points, and other notes provided by the production team. You'll turn these into properly structured scripts containing dialogue, actions, scenes, pacing, and anything else needed to bring the episode to life.

Because this is a Minecraft-based series, writers also need to understand Minecraft's limitations. Scripts should be written with what can realistically be performed and filmed in Minecraft in mind.

This means thinking creatively about how to portray things that Minecraft can't naturally do rather than simply writing them as if this were a fully animated show. Large-scale fight choreography, complex physical actions, and other things that would be extremely difficult to reproduce in Minecraft should generally be avoided or approached with a practical alternative. At the same time, don't let Minecraft's limitations prevent you from having good ideas. We're looking for writers who can find Minecraft-friendly ways to achieve the same storytelling effect.

Requirements:

  • Strong scriptwriting and dialogue skills.

  • Comfortable writing mystery, darker themes, and suspense.

  • Able to balance serious storytelling with natural humour.

  • Comfortable with the tonal style of shows such as Murder Drones.

  • Strong understanding of character-driven writing.

  • Good understanding of Minecraft's mechanics and limitations.

  • Able to write scenes that can realistically be acted out and recorded in Minecraft.

  • Able to work from outlines, lore, and existing character information.

  • Comfortable receiving feedback and making revisions.

  • Able to maintain continuity with established Soulsuck lore.

Role assigned to: Jester

Soulkey is the familiar mascot of the Soul Tree. It appears throughout the Soulsuck world and is especially associated with the Soul Tree, where everyone respawns after dying.

To everyone in the world, Soulkey is simply a cheerful robot. Or, at least, that's what everyone thinks.

Soulkey is friendly, upbeat, eccentric, and completely unbothered by how strange the world is. It talks to people as though everything is perfectly normal, even when it casually says something that absolutely should not be normal.

It can ramble, get distracted, and happily talk about seemingly random things without ever becoming genuinely ominous. Soulkey should not sound like it knows it's creepy. Its friendliness is genuine, which makes the occasional strange or unsettling moments much more effective.

Voice Direction:
Looking for a distinctly robotic voice, similar in spirit to T-TED from Broadcast From the Backroom. Think an old, slightly worn-out text-to-speech system that has developed a personality over years of service.

The voice should be high-pitched, raspy, and slightly gravelly, with a subtle worn-speaker quality. It should sound artificial without becoming monotone. Soulkey is expressive, cheerful, and occasionally theatrical, while still clearly sounding robotic.

There should be a slight theatrical quality to the delivery, but avoid turning it into a full character impression. The performance should feel like a genuinely expressive robot rather than a person simply putting on a robotic voice.

Actors should be comfortable with unusual robotic speech patterns, cheerful rambling, and maintaining the robotic quality while changing emotional intensity.

We're looking for a Minecraft Skin Designer to turn the finished Soulsuck character designs into Minecraft skins.

You'll be given completed character designs, references, and any important details about the character, and your job will be to translate those designs into accurate, recognisable Minecraft skins.

The skins should capture the character's clothing, colours, hair, accessories, and other defining features while working within Minecraft's skin format and limitations.

You'll need to understand how to translate a 2D character design into Minecraft's blocky visual style without losing what makes the character recognisable.

We're looking for Minecraft World Builders to turn the concept art, maps, and background references created for Soulsuck into actual Minecraft environments.

You'll be given artwork and references showing what locations should look like, then recreate them as playable Minecraft builds. This could involve individual buildings, streets, towns, landmarks, interiors, or entire areas of the Soulsuck world.

The goal isn't necessarily to make everything insanely detailed. The important thing is that the finished Minecraft build matches the concept art and feels like it belongs in the same world. You'll need to translate things from artwork into Minecraft while working within Minecraft's building limitations.

Some locations are based directly on the original Soulsuck SMP builds, while others combine elements from Soulsuck SMP, Soulsuck SMP Deluxe, and Soulsuck SMP Reborn.

The finished world must be playable in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.

Builders should be comfortable working within Bedrock's limitations and making sure their builds, terrain, structures, and any tools or features used are compatible with the Bedrock version of Minecraft being used for production.

Requirements:

  • Good Minecraft building skills.

  • Able to build from concept art, maps, screenshots, and references.

  • Comfortable recreating both interiors and exteriors.

  • Able to work with different building styles and materials.

  • Good attention to layout and proportions.

  • Comfortable taking feedback and making changes.

  • Able to work collaboratively with the Concept / Background Artist and other builders.

  • Must be able to produce builds playable in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.

Musician / Composer

Deferred: Profit Share

We're looking for Musicians / Composers to create the soundtrack for Soulsuck.

The music will help establish the identity and tone of the series, which can vary quite a lot depending on the scene.

For the pilot specifically, the majority of the episode is fun, energetic, and chaotic Minecraft adventure. The music should help sell Fade starting their new life in Blossomshire, meeting people, exploring, mining, and getting themselves into stupid situations.

A major part of the role will be creating the main intro theme for the Soulsuck Pilot. We're looking for a memorable theme that establishes the show's identity and can potentially become a recurring musical theme throughout the series. It should fit the fun, adventurous nature of the pilot while still having enough musical identity to work beyond it. Maybe an 8-bit intro theme could work well, not set-in-stone yet however.

The pilot will also feature an end-credits rock remix of the main theme. This should take the original theme and reinterpret it as a bigger, more energetic rock track for the credits.

The two versions should clearly feel like the same theme, while the remix should have its own energy and character.

The final Soul Tree scene changes the tone of the episode completely. The music needs to be capable of shifting from the fun, adventurous atmosphere into something much more unsettling, tense, strange, or mysterious.

As the series progresses, the soundtrack will become increasingly comfortable with darker, atmospheric, emotional, and mysterious material, with the tonal variety of shows such as Murder Drones.

You may be creating:

  • The Soulsuck Pilot's main intro theme.

  • An end-credits rock remix of the main theme.

  • Character themes.

  • Location themes.

  • Fun and adventurous background music.

  • Mystery and suspense music.

  • Emotional or darker pieces.

  • Comedic music when appropriate.

  • Recurring musical motifs and leitmotifs.

  • Music specifically built around major reveals and story moments.

We're particularly interested in composers who can create memorable musical identities that can evolve alongside the story.

The music doesn't need to be huge or incredibly complicated. Simple, atmospheric, or catchy pieces can be just as effective depending on the scene.
