Free Voice Acting Scripts and Practice Lines

Free voice acting scripts

By Buford Taylor, who runs Casting Call Club. Updated October 2026.

These voice acting scripts are free practice lines and short scenes, all written for this page, so you can record them, post them and put them in your demo. Each one comes with a quick note on what to play. Record a line three different ways, listen back the next day, and keep the best take.

Short lines for range

  • Hero, determined: "I don't care how many of them there are. I'm not leaving without her."
  • Villain, amused: "Oh, you brought friends. How thoughtful. I'll need the extra screaming."
  • Sidekick, panicking: "Okay, small problem, medium problem, very large problem with teeth!"
  • Mentor, tired but kind: "You'll fall. Everyone falls. Just fall forward."
  • Kid, excited: "Is that a real dragon? Can I touch it? I'm touching it."
  • Robot, glitching: "Greetings, human. Please remain calm. Please remain. Please. Remain."
  • Shopkeeper, too friendly: "Welcome, welcome! Everything's on sale, nothing's cursed, probably."
  • Narrator, warm: "Nobody in the village remembered the tower being built. It had simply always been there, waiting."

Emotional lines

  • Grief, holding it together: "It's fine. I'm fine. I just thought I'd have more time to say it."
  • Betrayal, quiet: "You knew. The whole time, you knew."
  • Joy, can't believe it: "We did it. We actually did it. Somebody pinch me. Not that hard!"
  • Fear, whispering: "Don't move. It can't see us if we don't move."
  • Anger, building: "I asked you once. I asked you twice. I am not asking again."

Comedy lines

  • Deadpan: "Yes, the castle is on fire. No, I will not be taking questions."
  • Overconfident: "Relax. I've read half a book about this."
  • Dramatic about nothing: "They gave me the small spoon. The small spoon. Do they know who I am?"

Video game barks

Short combat and reaction lines. Record each in one breath, with real effort behind them.

  • "Reloading, cover me!"
  • "Got one! Who's next?"
  • "Ugh, that's gonna leave a mark."
  • "Enemy on the left!"
  • "Not today!" (on a dodge)
  • "Tell my cat... I tried." (defeat)

A two-person scene

MAYA: You said the map was accurate.
JUNO: It is accurate. It's just... old.
MAYA: How old?
JUNO: There's a dragon drawn on it. As a warning. A real one.
MAYA: Juno.
JUNO: In my defense, the dragon is very well drawn.

Play it twice: once as an argument, once as two friends who think it's hilarious.

Monologues

The reluctant hero (about 30 seconds):

"Everyone keeps calling me brave. I'm not. I'm scared all the time. I was scared when the soldiers came, scared when we ran, and I'm scared right now. But being scared and doing it anyway is the only kind of brave I know how to be. So. Are we going, or what?"
