I need some voice actors for a high school senior project that I'm making with a friend!
The project is a mock animated trailer of a story that we created. The story is called Trial (which is a working title).
Trial is about a girl named Kara waking up in purgatory and is faced with completing various trials in order to judge where she will go in her afterlife. She is accompanied by a bureaucratic, hardworking, and surprisingly friendly demon named Reev, and a mischievous, ambiguous shadow-spirit named Nyx. Together they go on the ultimate journey that is a test of their morality, wits, and friendship.
The final product is only a short mock-trailer that will have clips of the story (sort of a trailer for a non-existent show if you will).
There will probably be pretty few lines since it's just small parts of scenes put together as a trailer. Honestly, I probably put more lines in the audition than what will be in the final product.
This is not paid because it's for a school project (one that will take about 5 weeks to complete) and because I'm broke so oof. I don't know where it will be posted when completed but I assume I'll be allowed to upload it to YouTube.
Also the actual project is going to be started around March, so this is really in advanced, but I thought I'd just give people the most time to audition!
I really hope you decide to help me out by auditioning as a character! Just try to create a voice based on the info about the characters and have good mic quality. Thanks!
Kara | 18-24 | female | human
Overview:
Kara is the main character. She wakes to find herself in purgatory, not remembering how she died. She learns that in her life she was not overly good, or necessarily bad, so she must complete the Trial to determine where she will end up in her afterlife. If she fails, she will cease to exist. If she passes, she will go on to paradise. Her trial guide is a demon named Reev who quickly becomes her friend, and she later meets a shadow-spirit named Nyx who joins the party.
Personality:
Kara is sarcastic, brave, and generally acts apathetic about most things. She is quick witted and thinks in creative ways. She has trouble with social interactions sometimes because she can be blunt, and her sarcasm can come across as hostile. Though she puts her tough personality upfront, she really is a decent individual that cares deeply for the few close friends she makes. She proves herself to be pretty good at athletics/fighting during the trials, and thinks very out of the box when coming up with plans, as opposed to her counterpart Reev who is logical (and rule-following). Hopefully I gave enough personality (sorry it's not much to go on rn)
Voice:
For the most part she has a pretty chill voice. Pretty basic voice. In some scenes she may need to shout angrily so if you're able to do that great! I personally picture her voice young, and not too high pitched. Somewhat tom-boyish. (Maybe something like a younger Laura Bailey type voice? idk). But it's really up to your interpretation, I'm open to anything.

Wait--I'm dead?! Oh Crap. How'd that happen?
I mean I feel fine--do I look fine to you? Is there like a mirror around here or something?
(First meeting Reev) So what's you deal? I though demons were supposed to be like... scary, or something.
You are the exact opposite of what I think of when someone says ~ demon~ (exaggerated voice for jokingly spooky effect)
Relax, no one is following us. Besides what's down here anyway? Can't be worse than what we just fought.
(different scene)
(shouting) Reev! I need you to trust me! Grab my hand! You can do this!
(Different scene)
(after seeing the monster they're pitted against)
Holy shit.
(at Reev) I hope you have a plan!
Reev | male | demon
Overview:
Reev is a lust/desire demon that resides and works in purgatory, as he has since the first millennia. Even though he is a lust demon, he actually just does paperwork in purgatory (only 9-eternity office antics here)! He is fired from his job (the one he was create for) because he misfiled a sinner's paperwork, allowing a criminal to pass on to paradise. He is assigned a new job in purgatory, and not one that is very popular mind you. He is tasked with being a Trial Guide. Reject-demons become Trial Guides because by the end of the Trial, they are sent to the Badlands of Purgatory: never to be seen again. Reev becomes Kara's Trial Guide and the two gradually become friends.
Personality:
Reev is logical, and law-abiding (the laws of purgatory at least). When he is not doing a specific job, or fulfilling a purpose he gets quite anxious. He comes to the realization that if he can't continue doing paperwork, he might as well be the best Trial Guide there is! Hint: He isn't that good at being a guide.
He is awkward, and considerably cowardly, but he does prove his loyalty to his friends.
Voice:
I picture him with an young adult kind of voice (even though he's thousands of years old, he looks about peak human age). He is a nervous, awkward guy, and very strange for a demon, ESPECIALLY for a lust demon. he's pretty uncomfortable with himself, and is very sheltered (has never left purgatory) so keep that in mind when coming up with a voice. I sort of think of his voice being like an american Wheatly (from Portal 2) if that makes sense, but I'd love to hear other interpretations!

(pacing back and fourth, nervous, frustrated) Well, I would know if I had your file, but as you can see I don't. Does it really matter though? let's just get this over with, okay?
(trying to be convincing) I-I'm scary. See, watch. . . . (thinks about how to show her for a second then gives up) Oh, never mind.
(excited, a little over-cheerful, committing fully to his job as a Trial Guide) Hello there! You must be Kara, I've heard so much about you- well not really, just your name, but that's gotta count for something, right? My name is Reevus, your personal guide through purgatory. Here we'll traverse the beautiful sulfuric plains, the uh- majestic... river of sin, and of course, the not-so-bad-Badlands! :D
(Kara rolls her eyes so he changes tone) Sorry, I'm new at this...
(yelling, very anxious) Kara help! It's. Gonna. Eat me!!
(different scene)
(trying so sound enthralling/like a lust demon should) heyyyyy... buddy... why don't you - uh - come over here and I'll... show youuu a good time... -Kara this isn't working!
Nyx | feminine | shadow-spirit
Overview:
Have you ever heard of the shadow people? Dark figures that torment those with disordered sleep. Well, Nyx is one of them. In this story these shadow people are spirits for the Badlands of purgatory. They are the wretched, forgotten, and cursed. Nyx is an assassin, sent to take Reev out after he messes up his job. She is very morally grey and follows her own rules. She'll take any favor for hire and is often sent to torment humans on Earth or to kill someone in purgatory. Through having a conversation with her, Kara stops her from killing Reev. She joins the group, and learns what it's like to be close to others.
Personality:
Nyx is very mysterious. She has a twisted sense of humor, and finds most things hilarious. She doesn't really understand others, because Shadow-Spirits are pretty solitary. She is mischievous and often plays pranks. She is morally ambiguous, as many are in purgatory, but she does eventually learn some right from wrong later in the story.
Voice:
After writing this character I couldn't help but picture Kasumi Goto's voice. I feel like that would suit her well. Just try to make the voice sound mischievous and mysterious!

(laughing hysterically and maniacally) He looks like such an idiot! pffft!
Azielle | feminine | Demon Lord
Overview:
Basically the ruler of the underworld, similar to the devil. She's very inhuman... and otherworldly. She speaks calmly, but it sends chills up your spine. She is very intimidating. She is technically the mother of every demon in purgatory, and she is also The Boss.
Personality:
She is ancient and has a great amount of power in purgatory. She has no influence outside of her realm though. She is cold, unfeeling, and straight up scary.
Voice:
Calm and cold, but intimidating. Make her sound powerful and in control.
