Project Overview

Hello!

What is the Sonic IDW comic series?

The comic is set in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game continuity, with the visuals of the comic being heavily inspired by the recent games. Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends live on a planet named earth inhabited by anthropomorphic animals like themselves and humans, which is constantly under threat from the evil human scientist Dr. Eggman, who wants to take over with his army of Badniks and establish the Eggman Empire.

Prior to the start of the comic, the battle between Sonic and the Eggman Empire has been going on for quite some time, with the heroes having fought Eggman multiple times before. Many flashbacks to previous Sonic game events are shown throughout the comic series. When the comic's storyline begins, Sonic and his friends are dealing with the fallout caused by Eggman's recent conquest of the planet, as depicted in Sonic Forces, which was the most recent Sonic game at the time.

Storyline:

After Sonic the Hedgehog and his allies defeated Dr. Eggman and liberated the world from his Eggman Empire during the Eggman War, the evil doctor went missing. However, his Badniks remained. Initially directionless, these robots eventually began launching coordinated attacks on villages, suggesting that someone had taken control of them. Sonic thus begins traveling from town to town to stop the Badniks, receiving help from both old friends and new allies (like Tangle the Lemur) along the way.

  • Please record 1-3 takes for each character and label the file as: CharacterName_YourName.mp3

  • Use American English unless otherwise specified

  • Auditioning for multiple characters is allowed

  • Usage of AI and/or NFTs is NOT permitted and will result in immediate disqualification. They will not be utilized in this project.

  • Please note that certain characters utilize voice effects. When submitting your auditions, kindly refrain from applying any effects to your recordings. In addition, please submit your audio files RAW w/out any filtering or sound compression. Removing background noise is acceptable, but we also encourage you to provide recordings that haven't undergone any additional modifications or alterations. This allows us to gauge the raw quality of your recordings and assess your natural sound.

  • Casting decisions will not be made before the deadline.

  • I will be voicing Whisper the Wolf in this dub of the Sonic IDW comic series.

    The casting call is now closed! Thank you to everyone who participated in the auditions for Sonic IDW Issues 1-12. We received over 1,000 submissions! 😱 Selecting the perfect voices for each character will be challenging, but I’m excited to listen to every audition.   • Audition Insights and Tips

    Hello, everyone!

    Firstly, I want to express my sincere gratitude for all of your fantastic submissions! Choosing the right actors for each character is going to be a tough decision because you are all incredibly talented!

    Recently, I've received numerous requests for feedback on auditions. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of submissions—over 300—and my busy schedule, I won't be able to provide individual feedback. However, I do have some general advice. Ensure your audio quality is professional; it's crucial even for a fan project like ours. Poor audio quality can significantly impact your chances in various projects.

    When reviewing auditions, I focus on three main aspects. Firstly, audio quality—professional and clear audio is essential. (This means avoiding any background noise such as fans, rain, dogs barking, babies crying, traffic, airplanes, lawnmowers, buzzing, murmuring, hissing, or high-pitched sounds.) Secondly, I consider whether the voice matches my vision for the character and aligns with the provided references. Lastly, I assess the overall delivery of the lines—believability and genuine portrayal are key.

    If your audition excels in these areas, you're on the right track!

Be that as it may, he has a firm conviction of justice and a desire to see Dr. Eggman and all others like him stopped. If Sonic has a flaw besides recklessness and a certain disregard for authority, it's that he tends to take too much upon himself, much like his friend Mighty. He also enjoys somewhat antagonistic friendships with both Knuckles and Antoine.

Personality: Tails can be described as a gentle, sweet, kind and loyal fox with a good and positive attitude. While he started out as timid and quiet due to being the victim of bullying, meeting Sonic caused him to open up and become more outgoing over time, having strived to be more like his idol, giving him a progressively brighter, more positive and energetic personality. Tails is not one to grasp the spotlight for himself. Instead, he is always ready and willing to help others without asking for anything in return.

Personality: 

A cheerful, optimistic and energetic go-getter, Amy is a determined young hedgehog who lets nothing stand in her way. She is girly and sweet, but also temperamental and has a hard time taking a "no" for an answer. She is best known for her long-standing crush on Sonic the Hedgehog, whom she would follow anywhere (if he let her). Like Sonic, she also sometimes find fun in fighting Badniks.

The time Amy spent in the Resistance has caused her to mature to a great degree. While still obsessed with Sonic and her crush on him, she has become more level-headed about it, being able to shake herself out of her moments of infatuation with him. She also has a strong sense of responsibility and duty, which is exemplified in her devotion to the Resistance's cause and her own role in maintaining the organization's stability, as well as when she turned down an offer to spend time with Sonic in favor of returning to her duties in the Resistance.

Personality: 

Unlike many of Eggman's robots, Orbot is not a mindless drone and possesses both a personality and emotions of his own. Orbot is one who looks at the bright side of things, especially for the sake of his boss when he is in a foul mood. He is also shown to be lazy.


Orbot possesses a sense of spiteful sarcasm, and likes to rebuke Eggman about his previous failures, having once asked Eggman if he wanted to review "a list of eldritch creatures [he'd] like to resurrect and then lose control over", which is a clear reference to the doctor's past failures in this field.


By his own admission, Orbot appears to suffer from anxiety. As such, he needs to take some time off for reassuring activities, such as arranging cables in alphabetical order. He is also smarter and more perceptive than Cubot, whom he has to explain some things to.

He similarly also easily falls victim to reverse psychology.

Personality: Rough is a course and aggressive skunk. Ruthless, cruel, and violent, he takes great pleasure in terrorizing and taking advantage of those weaker than himself, as demonstrated by how he and his brother oppressed the townsfolk of Barricade Town. Meanspirited, Rough showed no concern for the happiness or well-being of the townsfolk he and his brother oppressed, displaying a lack of empathy for others, and he was significantly offended by Sonic and Knuckles ruining their "fun".

Personality: Tumble is a rather coarse and aggressive individual. Ruthless, he is more than willing to take advantage of those weaker than himself, as shown in the oppression of the townsfolk at the Wispon distribution hub. He showed little concern for the happiness or well-being of the townsfolk and was significantly offended by Sonic and Knuckles ruining their "fun". While Tumble is a brawler who loves to fight, he is also shown to have a somewhat theatrical side as illustrated in the choreographed introduction he had prepared with his brother. This also implies a measure of pride, confidence, or perhaps arrogance in their abilities, as the brothers seek to make a name for themselves.

Personality: Heroic, optimistic, and just as fearless as Sonic the Hedgehog, Tangle is scrappy and loves to tangle with bad guys. Not intimidated by danger in the slightest, she has a thirst for adventure and excitement and craves new challenges for herself. As such, she is capable of heading into mortal peril and face deadly odds, all while wearing a smile on her face and having the time of her life. However, her desire for adventure makes her reckless and prone to charging headlong into danger without a care in the world. She can also be somewhat careless in battle, like using her tail in a way that gets it injured and getting so caught up in her own excitement that she forgets to watch out for enemies.

Blaze The Cat

Personality: 

Solemn, calm, and collected in battle, Blaze is a noble soul. Initially, she was a bit of a loner and somewhat defensive. However, she eventually warmed up to the concept of friendship and became more sociable and positive as a result of her new relationships. She has since come to cherish the friendships she has made and will do anything to keep her friends safe despite having only known them for a short time.


Despite the dignified bearing she maintains and the impression this may leave on others, Blaze dislikes being referred to by titles such as "Princess" or "Your Highness," and would rather be called by her own name, even by her personal ministry. Blaze also holds a strong trust in the Sol Emeralds and does not deviate from the tasks they cause her to undertake until uncovering the purpose behind them.


Despite her relatively introverted nature, deep down, Blaze is a very amiable, friendly, and gentle individual who's often willing to help others in need and stands up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

Personality: Dr. Eggman is an evil and megalomaniacal genius who is constantly planning to take over Sonic's world and those beyond his. Showing contempt for how "filthy" and "irregular" the world is, he views himself as obligated to perfect it by ridding it of what he deems as imperfections, including hunger, disease and, above all, free will. Arrogant, raucous and explosive, he believes that he is bringing peace and unity to Sonic's world under his brilliant leadership. He also does not accept Sonic's world as it is as a whole. Instead, he wants to transform it to his liking and set up terrifying amusement parks like Eggman Land. His reason for doing so is that he simply likes amusement parks and does not care about their effectiveness; all he wants is to control precisely what his enemies experience in their last moments. Eggman likewise prefers to show up and claim responsibility whenever he is carrying out his villainous deeds and make himself known to his enemies after he comes back from a defeat; as put by Sonic, subtlety is not Eggman's forte.

Personality: 

Espio is a serious and disciplined ninja warrior, as well as a detective, with a distinct sense of wariness. He is likewise a wise, intelligent, and soulful character, and has an excellent drive to all that he does, always being very thorough with his work. While having a no-nonsense attitude, he also has a bit of an ego which makes him elaborate on stories about his work that go nowhere in order to make his listeners understand how hard he has been working. He is also reluctant to admit his shortcomings.


Espio usually maintains a reserved and quiet demeanor. Beneath this surface, however, is a burning sense of justice and an absolute refusal to let evil have its way. This is best exemplified in how he believes that one should not be forgiven for the bad deeds they have already committed, even if the perpetrator does not remember anything and is unable to answer for them.

Personality: Best described as a grim anti-hero, Shadow has a strong sense of purpose and pursues his goals by any means necessary. He possesses a willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve these goals once he has set his sights on them, including using lethal force. This natural vehemence, however, tends to blind him with anger and make him prone to reckless decisions. It can also cause him to hold grudges, to the point where, if the object of his grudge is in sight, he is blinded to everything else; after being bested by Starline at the White Park Grand Chateau, Shadow decided to chase after him while ignoring not only Rouge and Tails being captured, but also an avalanche that would have injured or even killed everyone else. However, Shadow ultimately worked with Sonic to try to stop the avalanche. He also does not tend to take others into consideration, and sometimes his desire for revenge overwhelms his own sense of safety. Being an anti-social lone wolf, Shadow is generally not in favor of team-ups either; although he may occasionally cooperate with others, it is typically for his own reasons and does not guarantee that he is willing to follow orders. He also often leaves without saying goodbye or thanks.

Personality: Silver is an optimistic, young hedgehog who has a strong sense of justice. This personality trait is what motivates him to head back into the past in order to correct the future and help his people at whatever the cost. However, he is somewhat over-eager and naïve, which makes him prone to making decisions without fully thinking things through. Somewhat awkward when dealing with others and a bit socially clumsy, he has a tendency to hide behind a façade of bravado. Having suffered from loneliness for a very long time, Silver also has a hard time grasping the notion of someone preferring to stay alone. Silver also struggles with the concept of returning to the past without any issues occurring in his future, becoming anxious over the idea of having no clear directive to his actions. When lacking this directive, Silver's desire to be proactive can quickly get him into unintentional trouble.

Personality: Starline was calm, theatrical, and sophisticated most of the time, exuding an arrogant sense of pride in his intellect and abilities. Rather formal in behavior, he often addressed others as "gentlemen". However, he was also ruthless, sinister, and cruel, as he was willing to force Dr. Eggman to be a part of an evidently painful procedure against his will to bring him back to normal. Showing contempt for weakness, he possessed an incredible drive, as seen how he kept searching for Eggman despite becoming quite ill from sleep deprivation in the process. Despite possessing a calm demeanor, his patience did have its limits; after spending time with Eggman, Starline began showing occasional bouts of anger and frustration primarily directed at Eggman's imperfections, stubbornness, and refusal to listen to his reasoning. Ultimately, Starline would lose his patience after being fired by Eggman. In this state, he had proven himself emotionally unstable and prone to angry rants.
