The VA doesn’t have to identify as the same gender as a character in order to audition for that character. For example, a voice actress could apply for Derek if she’s comfortable doing a youthful male type of voice.
Important Note: Our Life the game is for general audiences, but the company Patreon will be releasing a bonus event that’s rated 18+ (for sexual content). The extra scene will include adult-aged characters only, be completely unvoiced, a separate download from the real game, and won’t ever release outside of the Patreon. So, it’s not a true part of the game and it requires no contribution from VAs. But please be aware that suggestive content exists in relation to the Our Life series.
Auditioning:
Please have clear audio with no background noise.
Please don’t edit the pitch of your voice or add other alterations. General clean-up is okay!
Two to three takes are preferred, but not required.
Our Life is a low-key story, the character speaking style is down to earth. We don’t require extra oomph that a more energetic/comedic project might.
Thank you for visiting our casting call and good luck to everyone who auditions!

Derek is outgoing, friendly, boisterous, and talkative. He’s got a relaxed and casual way of speaking, but he’s not that laid-back. Derek is hardworking and dedicated. He’s definitely a team player and doesn’t try to boss others around or have everything be his way. A compromise is a wonderful thing, as his parents would say.
“Okay! I'm gonna look around while you guys finish. See you.”
(Friendly. Upbeat at first and then fully casual. He’s just excusing himself from the group for a bit.)
“Do you ever spend time in your own home or are you always just there?”
(Joking, friendly teasing. He’s giving two people a hard time for how often they’re together.)
“I can't believe it. What a mean kid.”
(A bit downcast, but mostly disbelieving/bemused. He met someone new and the person turned out to be incredibly rude for no reason.)
Baxter is a tourist to Sunset Bird. He’s renting out one of the condos on the MC’s street for the summer. Baxter is a confident - and slightly eccentric - prep who greatly enjoys socializing. He's prone to giving compliments and being affectionate, which can easily come across as flirting. That's not the goal, but he won't complain if it's viewed that way. He never forgets a face.
“I am quite keen on getting to know you better this summer. We could be good friends.”
(Friendly, jokingly teasing with the phrasing, but he is genuinely happy to meet them.)
“I’m sorry. It wasn’t intended to mean more than it did.”
(Polite, apologetic, but still friendly and kind of casual. He accidentally caused a little friction.)
“Don’t tell me. I know you want to, but do not. It’ll come to me.”
(Very amused at himself, jokingly insistent. He forgot something and is certain he can figure it out.)
Elizabeth “Liz” Last is the MC’s older sister. She has a good relationship with her family and loves them very much. Liz is a little prissy and can be fussy. But she’s also willing to joke around and take charge without being pushy about it. She’ll put her foot down when something seems unreasonable, but will be unflappably calm in most situations.
“I can't believe it! That’s hilarious, that's incredible.”
(The first sentence is amazed and enthused. The second is more casually amused.)
“Excuse me?! We're the rude ones?”
(Taken aback, frustrated, losing patience. She’s reacted to an unrequested lecture.)
“Now it feels serious... I have to actually know some things.”
(Lower key than usual, some concern, trying not to be too morose. She’s speaking about her future studies.)
The MC’s cousin who keeps in touch as much as possible over the phone. Impulsive, dramatic, creative, and a full-on team player, Lee loves to be a part of the group, just as much as she loves getting her friends to join her in one of her impulsive, fun-loving schemes. But she’s loyal and loving to the end.
“I trust I'm not interrupting anything major?”
(Casual, friendly, a bit joke-y/teasing. Her greeting when unexpectedly calling a close family member.)
“Aw, my bad. Can you blame me?”
(Bummed, apologetic, a little friendly pleading. She hadn’t meant to do anything wrong and it’s not a serious situation.)
“My morning shift ended, so I'm free for the rest of the day. Woo.”
(Pleased, chipper, but still somewhat relaxed rather than strongly excited.)
Terri is a member of the MC's friend group. She initially became close with Cove first after the two hit it off, and that’s how she ended up meeting the MC. Over time, she developed a good relationship with the MC individually as well. Terri is somewhat hyper and can always keep a conversation going. She’s eager to get out there and have a good time. She’s not great at reading a room, and subtle signs tend to go over her head.
“You’re gonna have to get me your schedule by this time yesterday.”
(Friendly, upbeat, and generally pleased.)
“What? Impossible - preposterous, it simply cannot be.”
(Jokingly shocked and in disbelief, but not shouting. A progress point was reached very quickly.)
“But there’s no way I could. It’s Randy, you know?”
(Feeling kind of down at first, then a bit hopeful and wanting understanding from the listener. Things didn’t work out with something because of who was involved)
Miranda went to the same public school as Cove and the MC. She had some classes with them years back, and slowly over the years the three got more familiar and became closer. She lives in a different neighborhood, but after making friends she started coming over to visit. Miranda is kind of quiet around people she doesn’t know well. She can get pretty wild and be something of a jokester when hanging with her friends.
“Hi! I hope you weren’t waiting too long.”
(Friendly, pleasant, considerate.)
“Oh, um, for me it’s, well, I don’t know.”
(Awkward, nervous. Starts out trying to come up with something but gives up and has no answer.)
“I thought we could talk about anything… Guess not.”
(Hurt, saddened, a little angry. She feels like she can’t count on a friend.)
