Future characters for BIG dreams die hard!

Project Overview

"BIG dreams die hard!" is a fanmade Machinima featuring the popular Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character Ridley as it's protagonist. For now I'm only trying to produce a pilot episode. However, since I have quite a couple of ideas for where the show could go, I decided to make a seperate Casting Call specifically for any characters that I would like to add in the future. When the next episode will be put into production is not clear yet. Due to this, this special Casting Call will likely have multiple deadline increases.

Please note that I cannot offer more than a mention in the credits of the video, as well as a link to a YouTube channel, Twitter account or similiar things in the video description. I also find it necessary to mention that this Machinima includes strong language and adult humor (mainly innuendo and implied drug use). If you are not okay with that, please do not apply. It is inspired by a lot of older Machinima, which relied heavily on these kinds of jokes. While this is in my opinion a milder version, there is still some emphasis on it.

  • My first proper Machinima video is out! (The Minato "Short")

    It´s been a while folks, I know. But I´m still alive. It took ages to finish the project which is basically a quality check for "BIG dreams die hard!". Obviously I was very relient on my editor friend to help me out with effects and finer work up until now, but with this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KNvBahuyg8 This era comes to an end. (This was all on me.) One final video created with his help will still come out, but not sure how long that is going to take. Obviously I´m talking about the first short for Bddh! and now official pilot for the series. (And I know you all have been waiting... Somehow he still did not get to finishing it.) The second short featuring Joker, as well as episode 1 and everything else will require my own editing skills. If you want to keep up with this project, I recommend checking out the video above. Let me know in the comments if the editing quality is sufficient for the time being. It´s really important. It also gives you a taste of my writing. Since I would like to keep this short, I wish to apologize for not reviewing any auditions in recent times. It mainly just has something to do with me having to finish other things first. That is why I have neglected listening to auditions for the moment. I want to give everyone some feedback, I wish to be thorough about this. Well, I hope I can make some time for that in the next couple of days. But something you all should know is that I´m planning to go to college within a couple of months. Due to this and me still being rather slow in video production (It´s quite incredible how far behind I am in terms of schedule :/... --> Even though it´s not just my own fault being no more than a novice editor.), I would like to warn you in advance. Because of this, it is by no means certain to what extent I will have the time to work on the project. Obviously I will try my best, as long as it does not stress me out to the point of not being fun anymore. That said we´ll just have to see what the future may hold. Please keep this in mind as we carefully progress. If you do not wish to stick with the project as a result, that is completely fine with me and perfectly understandable.   • Quick progress update and info

    This time, I would like to leave the formalities aside and just quickly get to the point. My friend is still not finished with the short and I really am unsure about when it will come out. That is why I will just make the next update once it is. The status of episode 1 is still kind of up in the air as well, not to mention episode 2 and everything following after. I will have to figure a couple of things out before we can move on. That is why I will also be holding of on any decisions regarding characters I will need in the future for now. I will still be giving feedback on new auditions though, even if times get a bit more busy again. As somewhat of a guinea pig for what I can actually do completely on my own, I have started another Casting Call for a SSBU Machinima short unrelated to "BIG dreams die hard!" featuring Minato from Persona 3. I am expecting to finish it either before the short comes out or releasing it soon after. It shall give a contrast and serve as a comparison. Depending on the perception of the viewers I will decide whether that quality level will be sufficient or not. Whether it is or not will obviously determine how fast progress can be made in the future and whether or not I have to hire an editor, since my friend would like to back away from the project after the short is done, because he does not want me to have to deal with his lacking reliability anymore. That is all I wanted to say. I am sure many of you are not happy about the uncertainty the future holds for the project, but I really did not see this coming myself. I apologize.   • On the progress of the short and episode 1

    Since it feels like it has been a while, I feel the need to keep you all updated on the progress. It has been... slow, moving at a snail's pace if you will. I am still waiting on lines for the short and considering the footage, editing may not be as smooth as I thought it would be. So in the worst case scenario I will have to record something extra. I started the update by talking about the short for one simple reason: I want it to be the first outing of the series instead of the actual first episode. I know it is unusal, but bluntly speaking, episode 1 due to being a first episode (and therefore having a lot of exposition) does not convey all of what the series is supposed to be. Again, this just comes from all of the exposition that needs to be in there since it is a first episode and also me just figuring things out of course. With the short I can get a little more aloof and since it is rather out of context anyway, it would make for a good start as well while showing that the series has a big focus on comedy, but it's not like there isn't anything happening. Well anyway, that is why I would like to finish work on the short first. Additionally it is just much less work for me and my friend's rather busy schedule. A short of a couple of minutes is much easier to produce than a first episode, which is likely going to be no less than 15 minutes (teaser included and so on). In addition, while I have asked my friend about his progress in terms of editing, he has not responded to this yet, so I don't know to what extent progress even has been made beyond the raw material I send him. Due to all of this, I really quite frankly do not know if I will actually get anything out before the end of the month. It also depends on my motivation, which has lessened since the whole process of even just getting the short done has been taking a bit now. So, sorry to disappoint anyone who is really excited and wants to see something within the next couple of days. That is why I didn't choose to promise it in the first place. I will try, but overall we will just have to see. Expect something, but it is uncertain when. I guess that would be all I wanted to say for today. Hopefully the situation is a bit clearer now.   • A short will be put into production.

    Hello again everyone, this is just to quickly inform you that I will be doing a short for the series that is set to release some time (probably a couple of days) after episode 1. It will be focusing on Ridley and Meta Knight meeting an old friend of theirs, Roy. Since I am not sure many people will notice otherwise, I feel the need to promote the Casting Call for the short here.     I do not think I need to specify much here. Julia from Fire Emblem 4 will be a part of the story of Ridley forming a love triangle in the process. She is a mysterious dragon hunter with questionable motives. She actually falls in love with Ridley but intents to hunt him down and act as if she wants to kill him to hide her true feelings and because of her pride as a dragon slayer. In other words, she does not know what to do and has to find out during the progression of the series. She is a bit of a wild card in that regard because she herself does not know whose side to be on. In theory she is both a rival and potential love interest to Ridley.

I would ask for an air-headed voice that can be serious and stern at times. The pitch should be mid to high pitched.

  • (confused and surprised) What is this... feeling?

  • (worried) Duty or love? What is more important? *sigh*

  • (serious) Target eliminated. Mission accomplished. (surprised) Huh? A clone? How is this…?

Incineroar is yet another of K. Rool's underlings. He is however in a high position and K. Rool values him as one of his best men. Just as you'd expect he is a hot-headed ruffian, who enjoys nothing more than to terrorize the weak. Because of this he acts more like your typical bully. Everything but soft-spoken and definitely not the brightest.

Please give him a deep, grumpy voice.

Marx is planned to be a major antagonist in the SSBU universe. As of now I am not sure how significant he will actually be, but he is supposed to show up in Episode 4 for now. He will work alongside Iggy.

Marx has a high pitched voice, if you have any equipment you can try to manipulate your voice to sound over the top high while still keeping it realistic enough.

Iggy will be working alongside Marx as an antagonist in the story. His significance is however not clear just yet. He is loud, crazy and obnoxious as you would expect of him.

He has a crazy and perhaps a little raspy voice. It should neither be very high nor very low.

Dedede will as of now make a one episode appearance. He will be interacting with King K. Rool as they team up to beat Ridley. Though obviously they will have their differences as well.

I would like him to be as close to Right back at ya! Dedede as possible, complete with the accent and everything so I'm basically asking for a good Ted Lewis impression here. This character will make an appearance in episode 1! However, since this Casting Call is more relevant right now, I will start the audition for him here. I will also cast him sooner than everyone else here for sure, since I need him as soon as possible. 

As of now he will show up once for the teaser of episode 2 "The king's hunt". He will be scolding K. Rool after his monologue. Please try a fatherly, deep voice. The dialogue from line 1 is all the dialogue he has for now.

  • Hey son, you mind kicking it down a notch? Your mother and I are trying to sleep, you know. If you laugh like that one more time… well you know what happens when your mother gets angry. We wouldn't want that, right sonny?

The Machine

The machine is a creation of Wolf. It is used to turn anyone into a more vicious and evil version of themselves, turning their character completely upside down. It only shows up in episode 5 where it is tasked to turn Meta Knight into such an evil version. It is later destroyed by Ridley.

As long as it is threatning, any voice is fitting. It does not have to sound robotic either. Since this is a machine represented by dark Mewtwo, a male or a female voice is completely fine.

  • The question is not who I am, but rather WHAT I am… Well, let my abilities do the talking.

Joker is a mystery. He shows up for the first time in episode 2, (in the teaser for episode 3) ordering Julia to hunt down and kill Ridley because he senses danger emerging from him. He will be a recurring character that might get more important later on. However, because I do not want to spoil anything here and am planning to keep it a secret even for the cast (at the moment), there is unfortunately nothing more I can say about him. The audition lines are as of now his lines for the teaser.

I might be voicing him myself, but I want to see if I can find somebody who can pull it of better than me.

His voice should be rather balanced, neither very deep nor high. However, it should lean more towards deep.

  • Listen… I like you and you are the best for the job I could imagine. Just get out there and do your thing, as usual. I will be awaiting your arrival of course.

  • (slightly agressive) He has been a nuisance to me ever since he came here. (regretful) After disbanding the phantom thieves I lost everything. (motivated, hopeful) But I want to help the people again… (concerned) Have you not seen what he did to those villagers the other day? That was not a pretty sight.   • (affectionate) Ah yes, yes. My cute little bubble head… I will miss you. (sinister) Best not take too long, haha. (slowly, decently menacing) I sure hope that dragon is prepared… as his next breath will also be his last.

Bowser is the single father of 8 children, clearly picking favorites with Bowser Jr., whom he considers his only true child. He gets annoyed easily by friends and foes alike.

I would ask for a deep voice that emphasizes his short temper.

Stella is a Pikachu, who is feminine but loves to fight regardless. She is good friends with Zelda and Russel and is always interested to get to know new people. That is why you see the three of them hang out a lot in different places and sometimes even play. She may or may not also have a romantic interest in Russel. I will be needing her as soon as episode 2.

I have no real preference as to what her voice should sound like. I only ask that it is not too deep and sounds feminine enough. She is young, but not a child. Please keep that in mind as well.
