Witchpunk Series Description (3 Seasons)
The climate ain’t what it used to be and neither is the future. Betrayed and hunted by rogue corporations and religious ideologues across storm- and militia-haunted, crumbling 22nd Century America (where street witches wield quantum technology on the floating markets of Manhattan and the rich flee Earth for the new orbitals), the bickering crew of the semi-legit landship, the Strega, must stop the mysterious Foucault Engine from activating: at stake is not just their own lives, but a fight for who controls the future. Witchpunk is a gritty cyberpunk epic told in three seasons of six episodes each.
Season 1 (6 episodes)
For the crew of of the semi-legit landship, the Strega, it’s the first job since the death of their captain, Devereaux, and they had hoped this job would be an easy one - get the cargo from Mexico City to St Louis and a data package to flooded Manhattan. But there’s something very odd about the cargo and the strain is beginning to tell on them. Season one follows the crew of the Strega as they navigate ambushes, hurricanes, betrayals and corporate warfare, en route to old New York. What are they carrying, but more importantly, have they been set up and will they make it all the way?
Henry, their pilot, seeks to step up into the captain’s role while secretly still looking for Devereaux, not convinced she is dead. Alice, their combat witch, is torn between the family life she has built for herself and her need for the thrill of violence. Franklin, ex-corporate gunman, brings the firepower but is acutely aware that he is getting too old for the job. Roya, an escaped con, will join the team as their hacker, mainly because she doesn’t have any other plan to survive.
Auditioning
We are looking for grounded, naturalistic performances.
We are looking for VA’s who can embody a physical presence in their performance suitable for the scene location. Your character may be talking in a noisy cramped vehicle or desperately running for cover while talking and shooting. The tone of the show is serious but some of the characters, particularly Roya and Franklin, bring at times a lightness to the proceedings. This humour is written to be emergent from the script rather than that they are played comedic.
All experience levels welcome.
You may audition for up to five roles.
18+ only.
Auditions are open October 24th to November 24th 2025.
Auditions should be uploaded to this form only.
Please provide two to three takes (third one can be your own free take on the character if you want to).
Our preference for episode recording will be for ABCABC rather than AABBCC but either is fine for auditioning.
Audition audio should be a mp3 file with a file name of CHARACTERNAME_yourname.mp3
Recordings should be 48KHz and 24 bit.
Auditions should be done in the space you will use to record in, with the equipment you intend to record with (all cast VA’s will be recording their lines locally on their own equipment).
We will be looking for good quality original audio with minimal background noise and echo, as the less processing, the better the end product.
Apart from editing the file down to the lines you are submitting, no additional processing should be done to the file. We will take care of denoise, reverb etc.
The character descriptions are of the character, not the voice actor, so feel free to audition for any role that you consider you can do well, irrespective of gender, age etc. (for accents that are not specified, we welcome voices from anywhere in the world as long as your English is clear).
About Us
We (Citeog Podcasts) are based in Ireland. Witchpunk is our third audio drama, having previously made This House Will Devour You (2 seasons) and Ten Apocalypses (1 season). More on our shows can be found at www.citeogpodcasts.com. Citeog is very much an indie creator (there are only two of us!) and all writing, sound design and production is done inhouse. This will be our first formal casting call. Unfortunately this project will be unpaid. We do have a Patreon account but currently it is not sufficient to even cover our monthly hosting costs.
Stance on Generative AI
We believe that generative AI has no place in the arts, including audio drama. We will not use it in any of our shows. The various AI characters in Witchpunk will all be voiced by humans.
Note on Content
There are no sexually explicit dialogue scenes. There is no sexual violence, though a single-episode character in season two has a backstory of sexual exploitation. You will need to be okay with strong language (swearing). Characters swear when under stress (Franklin swears all the time). Gun, blade and vehicular violence is present throughout the series. It is treated matter of factly and the script does not dwell on gore etc.

ALICE (3 seasons) - Combat Witch & Strega Crew Member
40's, Strong, pugnacious, streetwise and spiritual.
American (a New Yorker but one who left when she was sixteen so accent could be faint or deliberately suppressed)
Main character
Alice grew up in New York, was orphaned by nine and fell in with a street witch called Maria. Maria trained and mentored her but betrayed her trust when she was sixteen, causing Alice to leave New York for good. This was a formative event for Alice, giving her an anger that until recently was a driving force in her life. Alice has worked as a combat witch for the last couple of decades, hard-nosed, shrewd, outwardly cynical and fuelled by that anger. In the last few years, two things have changed for Alice. She lost a lot of that anger after surviving the Houston 'heat bomb event', which was a somewhat mystical experience for her, and meeting her partner David and his young son Gabriel. She is forging a new, different optimistic life with them but the draw of her old life, that desire for the adrenaline rush of combat, means that she is maintaining a delicate balancing act.
Alice is strong, competent, inventive and dangerous, especially in close combat. She has mellowed from irascible and impetuous to no-nonsense and confident. Undermining that confidence however is an increasing sense that she needs to choose one life or the other, and sooner rather than later. She should not be played bitchy or bossy but as not suffering fools gladly while happily have a beer with someone she respects. In combat situations, her voice will be a mix of stress and exhilaration. We see a softer side in her quieter conversations with Franklin. She can at times come across as tired and grumpy.
Line 1 setting:Strega interior: think of a fast, noisy, cramped armoured vehicle, other crew members are in touching distance. You're strapped in, your workstation in front of you, monitoring the witchy defences. You're bantering with the crew, relieving the tension, when your system throws up an alert. You switch immediately to professional and serious. Voice should be a little raised to be heard over the engine noise etc.
Line 2 Setting:You're pinned down by corporate soldiers in New York, crouched behind a market stall; bullets are hitting your position and everything has gone to hell - Franklin and Roya are in deep trouble. You're stressed and angry. Imagine you are leaning out from cover and taking aimed shots at any hostiles you can see (each FIRES can be treated as a BEAT which will have a short burst of gunfire added). The phrase 'Our Lady who giveth and taketh' is the start of a prayer to Our Lady of Luck that Alice will have recited previously.
Line 3 Setting: You and Franklin are talking. Scene is interior of an abandoned building you've set up camp in, after you were nearly killed. You're tired and wrung out, but vibe is relaxed, the intimacy of good friends. Conversation has shifted from what just happened to Franklin giving out about Henry.

1. Something’s tickling the hex defences. The gentlest of touches, but we’re being checked out.
2.Our Lady (FIRES) who giveth (FIRES) and taketh ( FIRES), this would be a good fucking time to give for once. (FIRES)
3.Cut him some slack. Why did you come back anyway? I thought you were out after Dev’s death, that you were making a go of it with Paula.
ROYA, (3 seasons, beginning episode 3) - Hacker & Strega Crew Member
Early/mid twenties, Ebullient, vivacious, curious, long winded & pushy/cocky when nervous, terrified half the time and trying not to show it.
Any (if American, not a Southern accent).
Main character
Roya moved to New New York for university but instead spent her time becoming a one-zero (A hacker). She was arrested when a job went wrong and ended up spending six months in the Penitentiary in Louisiana, escaping in time to cross paths with the Strega. She is actually very good at her job, but right now is on the run with no-one to turn to, and the Strega looks like a possible way out.
Youthful and curious, but with enough past history not to be naive or even particularly impressionable. Her energy brings a new dynamic into the world weary crew. Franklin and Alice for slightly different reasons struggle to accept her, and she does herself no favours with a dismissive approach to Franklin and a competitive one to Alice. She is however clearly competent and vivacious and in time the team all grind along together. She is not used to violence so the crew’s propensity for it disturbs her but she also is unwilling to walk away - her enthusiasm for the mystery of the thing in the cargo hold is genuine.
Roya gets longwinded and over-explains when she is nervous. She puts on a cocky front, giving the impression she is not fazed by any of it, to hide the fact that she is terrified. This should be played as ‘too cool for school’ rather than being in your face. Remember that we want grounded, not quirky or manic pixie performances.
Line 1 Setting: You've been picked up by the crew of the Strega and don't know if this is a good thing yet. Scene is Strega interior, think cramped, noisy, moving armoured car. Everyone is on top of each other. Alice and Franklin have just removed some Penitentiary tracking devices from your head implants, one of which was a driving you mad with its constant talking at the back of your mind. You've been putting on a cocky front but the relief is too much and you start gently crying. Alice asks what's wrong.
Line 2 setting: Strega interior - engines off but it's still cramped with everyone trying to crowd round the strange box from the hold. This is your chance to show the crew what you can do - you're gonna open the weird box they can't. You're nervous though, rambling a bit, but trying to seem in control - both because you want to get this right and because you're not working with the best of kit right now.
Line 3 Setting: Scene is an exterior canal side bar in old New York, the calm before the storm. You and Henry are having a drink before meeting the others. You've been winding Henry up a little, while also trying to get him to open up, and he thinks he's offended you. You're relaxed, cheerful.
- female adult
1.(SNIFFING) It’s the silence! That thing has been insinuating prayers and exhortations to work since they put it into me. God, but it is good to be rid of his voice.
2.Okay to be clear before we start. I’ve downloaded softs from an old cache of mine onto new data spikes I bought from the vending machine at reception. What I’m saying is that I’m operating with out-of-date softs and cheap hardware so you know, you’re not seeing my work at its best.
3. Chill, I’m just yanking your chain. However, now you do owe me the story of Devereaux.
FRANKLIN (3 Seasons) - Mercenary & Strega Crew Member
Main Character
Franklin is outwardly cynical, worn down by life’s vicissitudes and previous injuries. Plain talking, strong language, and hard drinking aside, he has hidden depths of patience and empathy that most people miss, seeing him as brash, pugnacious, and somewhat intimidating. We see this more reflective side in his relationship with Alice, his changing attitude towards Roya and his friendship with Lexy and Vicky.
Franklin deflects conversations about where he’s from, with war stories from his time in corporate security as a technical (a corp soldier). He lost an eye and an arm in service, both replaced by cybernetic equivalents. His knowledge of the classics suggests an educated rather than street background. Franklin knows he is too old to be a frontline technical. His problem is he doesn’t know what else to do. He’s tried settling down with his on-off girlfriend but that wasn’t for him. Now he’s wondering about the Nomad lifestyle or whether he’ll just die on the job.
Franklin is grumpy most of the time but the others defer to his experience in combat situations. While everyone else gets stressed during combat, he remains calm and controlled.
Line 1 Setting:Strega interior: think of a fast, noisy, cramped armoured vehicle, other crew members are in touching distance. You're strapped in, your workstation in front of you, monitoring the weapons systems. The Strega is moving fast, it's bumpy, there's gunfire, explosions, everywhere as you try to break through an ambush. The Strega picks up the EM signature of a railgun - about the only thing that that can destroy it with a single shot. The Strega also has a rail gun though. You're speaking loud to be heard, a commanding voice - there's stress in it for sure but mainly you are professional, you've done this so many times before.
Line 2 Setting: It's stormy outside but you're at the window of an abandoned factory. The situation's gotten out of hand. You've run hard and fast, and up the damn stairs, to get here in time to provide cover for Alice. You're breathing hard, getting it under control as you talk to Alice on your comms, while setting up your rifle.
Line 3 Setting: Exterior, windy countryside. You're talking with Henry. For once things didn't need to be resolved at gunpoint so you're relaxed, as far as that goes. Alice is about do do something though that neither of you agree with. Henry says to you, that you know what Devereaux would say they should be doing in this situation. You agree.

1. Railgun! Where the hell is it? Henry, twist to starboard. More! Twist. Twist, fuck it. Landship bearing on us! (BEAT) Firing railgun. (BEAT) Nailed it!
2. Ok, I’m in position on the second floor of the factory. You’re going to have to work your way up a line of trucks. The chaos should work in our favour.
3. Yep. She’d tell ya to mount up, batten down the hatches, put the pedal to the metal and get the hell out of Dodge.
HENRY (2 Seasons) - the Strega's pilot
Mid-late 20's, Ambitious, confident as a pilot, out of his depth as a leader (can be weak or prickly) American (not a Southern accent)
Nominally in charge of the crew, Henry is an ineffectual manager, a weak leader, although his intentions are good. His lack of confidence partly stems from a sense of being in the shadow of his missing - presumed dead - former captain, Devereaux, and it is his fixed hope that he will find out what happened to her. This sense of hero-worship and endeavour underpin his motives and actions, meaning he struggles to convey adequate authority amongst the crew, particularly with Franklin and Alice, the older members.
Henry had a normal family life until he was done for illegal Terms & Conditions consulting when he was a teenager and disappeared into the prison system for three years. He returned home to find his family dead from the latest pandemic. Devereaux took him under her wing and taught him to be a jockey (a pilot or driver). She was a very strong mentoring figure to him, and he still can’t accept she is actually dead as her body was never found. This need to know is a weakness that will be used against him. He is attracted to Roya though it will be season two before that progresses.
Henry is a young, straightforward guy. He doesn’t really have the experience to be captain of the crew and sometimes this shows in irritation, indecision, or overconfidence. He is very keen to complete the job to prove his leadership abilities, even when cutting and running might be the better choice.
Line 1 setting: Strega interior: think of a fast, noisy, cramped armoured vehicle, other crew members are in touching distance behind you. You're strapped in, driving this thing fast as you're under attack. You're under stress, speaking in a slightly raised voice to be heard over the background noise.
Line 2 setting: Apartment interior, a safe house. You're standing, looking over Roya's shoulder at her laptop screen. Her cameras have picked up a guy in the building acting suspiciously. You're relaxed, just finished breakfast, intrigued more than anything, but professional enough to treat him like a possible threat.
Line 3 setting: Strega interior, engines are off but it's cramped with four people in it. The crew have been discussing next steps and you're getting a little exasperated with them. It's obvious to you that you've got to stick to the plan.
- male adult
1. I’ve got visual on the rear chaser. It’s a landship, closing fast. Alice, I’ve got sensors rebooting all over the place.
2. Notice though how he always keeps his face away from your cameras. How does he know about them? It is kinda weird. Franklin, Alice: perimeter check.
3. Think about it. We don’t turn up with this thing, then we are in all kinds of trouble with someone. All we got to do is get to St Louis.
OUR LADY, (2-3 seasons, 1 episode in S1) - a false saint
30's-40's, strong, female voice that is calm and reassuring.
Neutral American, Hispanic American, South American, or Irish.
4 lines (It has a very small cameo in S1 but it is the most important secondary character in season two, appearing in 4 episodes. It almost always only appears to Alice).
This is actually the Foucault Engine (a witchy AI) but in Seasons 1 and 2, it always appears in the guise of Our Lady of Luck both because it thinks it is an appropriate avatar and because it messes with Alice’s head. We may change up how it appears in S3.
Our Lady of Luck is a modern cult/pagan saint modelled on Catholicism’s Mary, Mother of God. Those in need build shrines to her and she is the patron saint of witches.
Even though it is actually an AI, the VA should play the role as a strong, female voice that is calm and reassuring, despite whatever it is saying. Any accent should be fairly soft.
Line 1 setting: Stormy exterior scene. Alice is about to defeat a Dominionist mage, you'd much rather she lost to. You reckon appearing as Our Lady might be enough to throw her off. Imagine stepping up to two people grappling with each other and relying on your authority to get them to stop. 'I giveth and I taketh' is a paraphrasing of a common prayer to Our Lady.
Line 2 setting: (from Season 2) Interior of an abandoned ski lodge. It's quiet and just you and Alice. Your tone is conversational as if you're old friends (Alice is treating the whole thing as a possible trap). You're interested in her answer but mainly trying to make a connection so that you can manipulate her.
- female adult
1. Alice, stop! I giveth and I taketh and now (VOICE HARDENS) I give you to the Penitentiary.
2. Do you know what the orbital AI saw just before you banished it? A vast tree, in flames. What do you think you meant by that?
Fast talking, spritely, no nonsense, acerbic.
An audition for one counts as an audition for both. Vicky and Lexy have been together for so long that they alternate sentences when talking to someone else. They are rarely seen apart.
Lexy 32 lines
Vicky 32 lines
Back in the day, they were technicals (corporate soldiers like Franklin), now they are nomads moving from job to job after a failed attempt at a better life (thwarted by events out of their control). In their S1 appearance, they mainly hold up a mirror to Franklin’s doubts about his future. They have a more proactive role in later seasons.
Line setting: A noisy bar interior, stormy outside. You've introduced yourselves to Franklin, recognising another ex-corp soldier when you see one and have been shooting the breeze over a beer. You've moved on to telling the story how you lost your ranch and ended up as nomads.

SALLY, (One Episode) - an escaped prisoner and a spy
20's - 30's, confident, verging on arrogant.
American
24 lines
Sally is hard nosed and a true believer in the Mississippi Basin Alliance's mission to overthrow the Dominion. She ought to be one of the good guys but her realpolitik approach has led her astray.
Initially exhausted but more herself by the end of the episode. Increasingly dismissive of Alice and Roya as bleeding hearts. Play her cold and confident.
Line 1 setting: Scene is Strega interior, think cramped, noisy, moving armoured car. Everyone is on top of each other. Franklin doesn't believe your cover story and has just pulled a gun on you, challenging you. You are genuinely exhausted but trying to brazen it out that you are just another escapee from Penitentiary like Roya.
Line 2 setting: Noisy bar interior. You're fed and watered, no longer exhausted. You're feeling put out though, annoyed at what you consider Alice's judgmental view of what you are doing. Alice has got up to leave. You call after her.

40's-50's, A big cheesy* voice to go with his oversize TV personality: jolly, joking and desperately trying to be enthusiastic for material he sees as beneath him. Barely concealed aggression towards Dr Bob.
American
27 lines
The hair’s probably a transplant or toupee, the teeth are blindingly white and he knows which angles don’t show off his developing paunch: Gary is a fading TV celebrity, reduced (as he sees it) to doing second-rate TV talk shows. He resents what he sees as the superior know-it-all-ness of his co-host, Dr Bob and deals with him in a passive-aggressive manner (it’s part of their brand now, the audience thinks it’s just part of the patter).
*While Witchpunk tries to avoid well worn tropes, this is a character to lean into them with.

Eve's young but already almost past it as a once super-popular MindFeed* star. Her appearance on the Gary and Bob show is a part of a publicity tour to re-start her career after a stint in drug rehab.
--- For continuity reasons we have moved her Gary & Bob slot from S2 to S1. We may write a larger role for her in S3. ---
*MindFeed is the cutting edge in entertainment - pop a data chip in of your favourite star's latest film and experience it as if you were them, with curated access to everything they feel. MindFeeds often blur the line between Hollywood and porn so there is some innuendo and inference in Eve's part (though it is not sexually explicit).
SIDES
Things are bad enough that you're willing to appear on the Gary and Bob Show. Gary is a sleaze ball and Bob is a little creepy, but you're a professional, you can hide your desperation behind a brittle cheerful facade; you can play the game of airhead starlet, if that's what it takes to advertise your latest godawful MindFeed... Eve is to a degree playing the role of airhead so feel free to lean into every terrible interview with a celebrity you've heard, but with a tinge of well hidden desperation and pathos.

Oh my god, thank you! So heat bombs are becoming more of a thing, you know? So we thought it’s relevant to where we are now as a society, you know?
Well, I’m not sure I’d put it like that. Those are silly unsubstantiated rumours!
So I love that my character is really relatable you know? She’s just been ghosted by her boyfriend and she’s stuck alone in her penthouse.
