Project Overview
Project Type: Student film. Animatic.
Project summary: “Waste of Space'' is a chamber drama and sci-fi animatic short film about an at once advantageous, now aimless, planetary engineer who tries to talk to his loved ones about his mental health after being stuck in solitude during a universal-wide catastrophic event. The movie’s world-building and vernacular is inspired by Adventure Time and Star Wars; with the addition of the screenplay being a mix of The Meyerowitz Stories, Last Days (2005), and Blade Runner 2049. Screenplay is 18 pages long.
Requirements & Things to Note:
- Decent audio quality, minimal background noise is fine. If too much is in background, I will not consider your application.
- Dont hesitate to ask questions or receive feedback.
- I will pay with Zelle or Paypal.
- Must be comfortable with doing a session via zoom call and/or comfortable with me sending notes with screenplay via email (would appreciate your preferred method(s) for my involvement in your craft).

Personality Traits: cold, strong, driven, campy, conceited, bit of a conversational narcissist.
Biography: Grew up in the slums of a junkyard planet, riddled with crime, poor mental health, and addiction. Lots of traumatic experiences. As a child, Concha became resourceful through scavenging and learning spacecraft machinery. After years of galactic misadventures and high-paying jobs, Concha became successful and respected in his field, which leads him to believe he avoided the cycle of his generational trauma that his peers and family couldn’t. After the massive solar flare catastrophe, Concha continues to travel throughout the galaxy to help fix ships and provides funding for his current and former crew-mates. Crew-mates are aware of his habit of his long monologues about himself, along with his irrational behavior that causes him to go cold to lively then contentious in a heartbeat.
(cold, uninterested at start of phone call) It is I, Commander Concha.
(prideful rambling) Just like a couple weeks ago, I was scavenging the boiler room of a empty station all the way in Cygnus and got bum-rushed by Nuvnubs. I’m not gonna lie, it was an easy fight. Nuvnubs can’t fight. I have no problem with Nuvnubs, I’ve done jobs with Nuvnubs. I’m just calling it how it is.
(Patronizing, calm) You’re not crazy. You just have to stop saying bullfrog.
(beat)

Wears: their operator uniform, a slim-fitting honey-yellow unisex jumpsuit.
Biography: Was shy throughout their life. During secondary school, Jin-Jur would be grouped into a class project and befriended by an enthusiastic Boingo. Boingo’s boisterous charisma would help bring them out of their shell. Only casual friends during their biotech class, both would lose touch after the cosmodrome graduation. Jin-Jur would then attend their dream college. After the massive solar radiation storm event, Jin-Jur has made a ton of progress in their life. They became more confident and comfortable in their skin. We meet Jin-Jur as a switchboard operator at the AstroChat Premium Navigations and Communications Tower, a well respected and comfortable job. And while connecting a new call, gets surprised by an old friend… who looks and sounds completely different.
(professional, welcoming, calm) Thanks for holding. Welcome to AstroChat Premium Nav-Comm. On general protocol, how are you doing today?
(surprised, happy) Oh my gosh! Boingo?
(enthusiastic) I know! It’s such a solid gig. Especially since everything’s opened back up. Paid sick leave. Health insurance. Free food. So much garlic naan, it’s the bomb.
Personality Traits: gamer geek, mainstream superhero film geek, chill, socially awkward but cheery with his best friend Boingo, loves walking, loves burgers
Wears: loose fitted polyester athletic t-shirt and basketball shorts
Biography: Best friend of Boingo, the protagonist of the film, since age thirteen. Would spend most days together playing co-op video games, watching random films, and converse about what they would do in crazy hypotheticals. After secondary school, Tonkatsu and Boingo would both live in a THERM-1 spacecraft, the universe's lowest tier station, attend online community college classes as they were traveling to Boingo’s desired planetary engineering planet. As Boingo was succeeding in his classes, Tonkatsu would lose interest in his, causing him to be academically suspended. Tonkatsu felt aimless and became distant with Boingo. After the solar radiation storm catastrophe, he would find work and live on a cargo spaceship. Occasionally, Tonkatsu and Boingo would play games through online multiplayer and chat, but now it’s not what it used to be.
(chummy, brotherly, warm) Ay, brother!
(sincere, good-natured) I’m sorry, Boingo. I get tired from work and, when I get home, I just kinda forget. Y’know?
