Abridge Our Life! - Remake Our Life Abridged Series

Project Overview

Remake Our Life! was one of those anime that you either missed or forgot existed after a month or so. Wasn't bad. I mean, wasn't entirely bad. The premise was following Kyoya who has a shitty life, looks up to what he could've been if he go to go to that one Creative Arts school, changing his life; then he gets transported back to 2006 to take the chance to enroll rather than going to a normal boring ass college. But I will have to give the manga credit. They were going for Kyoya learning, but unfortunately for the anime, they made it seem like he absolutely hates the idea of creative freedom.

I'll spare you my grievances of my moderate hatred of the MC. Watch it yourself if you really care enough to, but throughout the entirety of the anime I kept re-running a funnier and (arguably) better premise in my head of what the characters do and say. After finishing it, I went ahead and said, 'fuck it', might as well turn this into something worth watching. Plus, I didn't see anyone else abridge this anime on youtube, so I get to be the first, if not the best.

Anyway, I've come looking for VA's who wanna do some unhinged work with QUITE the assortment of personalities. It's not purely for comedy, as you'll come to find out, the ranges of what you get to say should be plentiful. Plus, if you have a better line for the series, I'm all ears. Or, I'm mostly a body, but I'll listen to it.

Yes, the premise is going to talk about dark subjects such as suicide, murder, self-harm, and more as I continue writing it. If you aren't a fan of a coping mechanism dressed up as humor, then you probably won't have much fun with this.

The point of this project is really to have fun with it. The script is blueprint. If you're cast and you have a better line for your character or a whole ass scene in mind, then please tell me. I want you to still have control over parts of the story.

  • The Beginning of the End

    That's a dramatic title. Auditions close tomorrow, so get that in if you oh so desire, then I'll prolly add u on discord and ask if ur breathing, if ur alive, or what makes u happy before transitioning you on over to the main discord server. I actually made that server about a week ago and am mildly proud of it. You can always recommend things u want on it.

    My preferred VAs are people who are looking to be in a community and contribute to things we create, as your opinion should matter as much as anyone else's; but if you just wanna join and treat it more like a cool lil thing you drop your voice in and never think about. I guess that's fine. Makes me sad, but I'll accept it.

    This obviously won't be the only thing we're making. I'll drop more scripts for different one-shot(s) or voice overs I need for videos. Abridged are actually the easiest to make when I'm running script making than anything else I've made.

    Figured I'd give information about my thoughts for the future before I contact any of you. Tell me if you have any questions, how you're feeling, why you're still here, or watch if you're really bored enough. I've been really enjoying listening to every single audition. Some of you have never heard of audacity and some of you do this like your life depends on it. The in-between is usually buried, but you can find em.

  • Kanou

    I was honestly expecting more Kanou submissions considering how fun I considered her to be to voice, although I figure Nanako and Aki seem to be taking the lead on preference for female VAs, which i can respect. They're quite fun. Either a psychopath who doesn't really get people or having a breakdown on a mic, who doesn't wanna voice that?

    But I suppose I'll drop another scene with Kanou for reference.

    INT. SCHOOL FILM - NEXT DAY

    Kano is teaching. Very well.

    KANO Which is why the parasite continues to keep their target alive for so long. If they kill the host, then they have nowhere else to go, but in this case. The entertainment industry has no reason to keep you alive. It already has millions of hosts, so letting another die is mostly a neutral benefit. That's why Monkey Bone (2001) got greenlit and Treasure Planet (2002) was actively sabotaged.

    WHOLE CLASS (EXCEPT EIKO) Oooh~

    KANO Anyway, if you need anything, you can reach me at your mom's place between 4-5am yesterday.

    INT. SCHOOL BUT FURTHER - MOMENTS AFTER CLASS

    Nanako runs up to ask Kano some questions about the grading of their film.

    NANAKO Miss Kano!

    KANO Oh. Don't remind me.

    NANAKO Uh- Mrs... Kano?

    KANO You were the right the first time. Whatchu want? You can't suck my dick for extra points.

    NANAKO I wasn't- how would that even work?

    KANO Ask your mom.

    NANAKO Um. Okay... I-I wanted to ask about the grading on our film. Most of it was threes and fours but acting, you said two of five?

    KANO What of it?

    NANAKO I-I guess I thought I did her a lot better. At least a three.

    KANO Kogure, you were Nessa, right? In the beginning it was setup for her suicide, then the rest of the film was understanding what finally led her to choose death over living.

    NANAKO R-right.

    KANO It was as if she was ready to die through the entirety of it. She said she wanted to live, yet her whole body was already at the end. Ready to jump off the cliff even before her life fell apart. Your range of acting is very animate, but all I felt was unbridled desire to end it all.

    Nanako does that surprised/exasperated face.

    KANO That's all.

    Kano takes her sweet ass away. Nanako stands there, ready to cry.

    Maybe it'll get more auditions, maybe not. She's still funny and, at least I believe, says what needs to be said.

  • Sound Effects

    During the creation test of the Abridged that I have listed in the project; I was mostly aware of the sound effects I was needing to make within the episode, but you never really think about it while watching anime. Matching every step to "footsteps-loop.wav" is quite a hell of an editing path. My point is, if you get cast for the characters, theirs many instances where the character makes noises.

    For example, Kyoya in the first 30 seconds yawned twice, accidentally inhaled a leaf and coughed it up, and sighed. I don't particularly have those sound effects within the script, but I'll definitely need lines for that. Pretending to inhale a leaf and cough it up was more fun than I thought it would be. But I did it marvelously. Good on me, I deserve the world.

    I don't need custom sounds for walking or... like, pulling shit out of your bag, just mouth sound effects, such as breathing, sighing, gasping. Even those anime sounds where they're "huh" or "ahh~". I don't know the onomatopoeia for them well, but we'll figure it out. Probably.

  • Check In

    Loving your guys' voices so far. They're marvelous. It's only hyping me up more for the main series once I get more voices to slap on characters and making these interactions more insane, cuz I consider my writing rather unhinged.

    I see Tsurayuki seems to be the most common voice preference based on auditions, mostly from that first line honestly.

    Out of context its funny. in context, I think it makes a bit funnier, so here's that for reference,

    TSURAYUKI No, no, and yes. It was... Not much of a vacation. But I'm back now. I did wanna see this, though.

    NANAKO That looks like shit. Heard it was just a bunch of gangsters doing nothing for ninety minutes.

    Aki woke up finally while sitting up.

    TSURAYUKI Like you would know good film if it sucked your titties straight up.

    NANAKO Huh?? What kind of fucking simile is that??

    TSURAYUKI A good one. They aren't "doing nothing", they're building their connection over the course of forty minutes, as they have to figure out a whole new way of understanding the world when it becomes crumbling around them. Love and hatred intermingle...

Aki's not one to hide any of her thoughts and feelings as she is VERY opinionated when it comes to certain terminology. She knows she's hot, she's unfortunately not blind to Kyoya's dismay, but she doesn't quite understand why people do the things they do, yet she is good at tracking and predicting patterns, making her a really good detective.

What I have in mind for her voice is much like the original. Higher pitched. Although I'm happy with experimenting to see different voices in how she delivers the lines for specific scenes.

  • (She just woke up, barely awake) So, the neighbors called the cops on me after I was holding their daughter hostage for looking at my hubby too long. The officers came inside, so I turned them into lunch for the neighbor's daughter. I'm not really a fan of human, so I figured she could have all of it.

  • (Very passionate about the difference) Tonkotsu-bad-BITCH. Much like the soy, I cannot shovel that in my mouth. Gets boring. Sucks. TRASH. Tonkotsu? I'll eat that into my grave! I will end a family for some tonkotsu. LIKE A BAD BITCH. I WOULD KNOW. I AM ONE.

  • (Softer moment between Kyoya and her) I don't really get... People very much. I mean, I get how they do things and what, but... I don't really know why. It's like some disconnect I have from majority of people who just... Get it. Like, they were given a working plane and I'm supposed to build it from scratch in the air.

Nanako is also an unintentional time traveler like Kyoya. She killed herself around 2020 in her previous timeline and then woke up in 2006. She's pledged to change how she used to be to become somebody who wants to keep living. Pushing herself into situations she usually avoided. She's also gay. Doesn't really matter much VA wise, but figured I'd mention it since gay baddies still get depressed.


Voice-wise, I think this one is quite flexible, although you might wanna be good at voice acting depression and suicidal speech. I do NOT want that polished corporate approved breakdowns. I need that shit to sound authentic. I like voice acting that, if you don't. Don't do it. I ain't forcing you.

Tsurayuki is a marvelous film writer. His family is also loaded and has a complicated relationship with them to the point they will send their maids to watch him sleep, but he's gotten used to handling everything himself, using the connections he has with his family and further out to make sure no one around him can become a cause of concern. He's pretty laid back and runs with jokes, but writing is one of his main passions even if he's asleep for most of the time.

  • (half-awake, called on unexpectily) If you want to create something original, you'll need to push off from something so generic, you need to not ask 'am I following the correct method' and do it based on what you get out of it. How that can be interpreted to their audience and whether you truly made something worth while. I don't want to be the next Satoshi Kon or next whatever. I'm creating something that I actually give a shit about and not for mass appeal.

You get to voice her older and younger. How fun. The older version of her has been crushed by capitalism and been running her own attempts at taking some control back with her own projects, yet keep running into problems when the ones she's running through also have all of the money. Her younger self is a lot more fire-y. She feels like a bitch, but she's just passionate about what she wants. Does things by the rules and does her best to do what is asked of her. Hates when others waste their own talent to pity themselves without pushing for something, anything.


I imagined a mid-low voice for her, but as you probably read by now, do how you read her. If you're not having fun voice acting, are you really voice acting? That sounded more profound in my head.

She is aggressively rude about her way to teaching, yet she does want people to succeed. To push up against what she says regardless of what she says, as she isn't the final say. You are.


Her voice was medium low and medium high with that chronic tiredness you hear when you've seen enough people's dreams collapse. I'm not a big fan of raspiness but I've also never heard it on her character, so show me what you got. I just want her to sound tired and done, but surprisingly a good teacher.
