Potion Commotion (Original Video Game)

Project Overview

Welcome

Howdy! Firstly, a big thanks for checking out this casting call.

My name is Luke, I’m 20 years old and I am the developer of Potion Commotion, my first official game - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1209450/Potion_Commotion/
Please check out the Potion Commotion Discord for progress-feed, updates and more: https://discord.gg/ByNsGUC

What is Potion Commotion?

Potion Commotion is a casual game of the idle clicker genre.

Upon starting the game, the player becomes the gardener of the elderly and eccentric Wogglebogg the Wizard, the game’s main character.

To aid Wogglebogg in making various potions, the player will need to build his garden with a range of Trees, Plants and Creatures, to harvest wacky ingredients.

The more Potions the player makes, the more coins and elixir the player will receive, allowing them to further expand and create!

Other features of the game are a Prestige System, Full Controller Support, Achievements, an Original Sound Track, Daily Bonuses, a whole load of terrible puns and more.

What is the plan for Potion Commotion?

Well, the first step is to get the game finished, so it can be released onto Steam. I am planning for a Q1 2020 release.

From there, I am open to the prospect of releasing it onto other platforms, but currently, Steam is the main focus.

Why are voice actors required?

When I initially came up with the idea for PC, I felt it would greatly benefit from talented voice actors, such as yourselves, to really bring the characters to life. This isn’t something that’s common in titles of this genre, so it’ll add some additional uniqueness to the game.

Deadline

While the deadline is currently September 1st, this will most likely be pushed back, up to October 1st. However, this will depend greatly on my own progress in development, as well as the number of auditions.

I should note that as the aim is for a Q1 2020 release, lines will most likely need to be done by February, which should be ample time, but bear this in mind when auditioning.

Requirements

Naturally, a good quality microphone is essential. A sense of humour and a Discord account (or the ability to make a Discord account) is highly preferable too.

Why audition?

Primarily, because you’re awesome! And I’m seeking people as awesome as you for this project.

Secondly, because this project is about having fun, and creating a group of friends working together; I would love you to be a part of that.

And finally, because you’ll receive my eternal love and affection, which is utterly priceless.

Latest Updates

  • Still a chance to audition!

Howdy, y’all! Of the 5 new Roles listed in this casting call, last month, I have now chosen VAs for 4 of them. Congratulations to those who were cast and sincere commiserations again to those who weren’t, but thank you very much for your auditions, I enjoyed listening to them and I appreciate your time. I have decided to extend the ‘Task Giver’ deadline until the end of the year to give more people the opportunity to have a go! This doesn’t mean you won’t be cast if you’ve already auditioned, as this role will be cast multiple times, thank you. Potion Commotion Discord: https://discord.gg/ByNsGUC
  • New Roles Posted

Hi again everybody! Hope you’ve all been well, I just wanted to let you all know that I’ve listed 5 new roles for you to audition for. This includes the Dragon, the Reindeer, the Spider, the Chocolate Camel and finally, the Task Giver, which is a role that will be cast multiple times. Development of Potion Commotion is ongoing as always, and some very good progress has been made since my last post. If you’d like to keep up to date with the game behind the scenes and talk with the other Voice Actors, the Discord server is available to join: https://discord.gg/ByNsGUC Thank you ever so much for your continued support.
  • Initial Roles Cast

Hello there everyone! Well, I have to say this process has been really fun for me, listening to all of your amazing auditions, and hearing the characters from Potion Commotion come to life. It’s also been a very difficult process, with so many talented people applying, it was super hard to narrow it down. Commiserations to those who weren’t cast. Don’t feel too disheartened, like I said, there were some very close decisions involved in the casting process and I hope you find success next time. I’m aiming to post a couple more minor roles to this Casting Call soon, so I’d encourage you to check them out once they’re up. And I’m opening up the Potion Commotion Discord to anyone who wants to join and participate in discussions about the game - I’ll be there, and you can message me about whatever you like. Thanks again to everybody! Much appreciated. Congratulations to those cast. Potion Commotion Discord: https://discord.gg/QK5aCPT
  • Deadline pushed back to the 1st of October

Hey there everybody! First off, a huge thank you again, to those who have auditioned and/or checked out this casting call! It means a lot that so many of you are supporting this project, especially considering that I’m a new developer. So, the breaking news is, that I’m going to be extending this casting call to the 1st of October. I hope this isn’t a shock to anyone as I’d mentioned beforehand that I’d probably be doing this. However, I do apologise, regardless, for any inconvenience, this may cause. I’m 95% sure this will be the ONLY extension. Essentially, as a solo developer, the game’s coding, along with the writing of the dialogue and reviewing of auditions, can be rather time-consuming. So I’m thinking this delay will allocate the necessary time for me to properly make this process successful, as well as giving the opportunity for more auditions. In regards to the game’s development, the process can be tedious, but I’m enjoying it, and all is going well. Among other things, I’ve been implementing the achievements system, which is pretty hard work, and I’ve also introduced alternative sprites to make the game more visually appealing. I plan to set up social media pages and a discord server this month, so keep an eye out for those! Again I’m truly grateful to you all; I look forward to working with you. Thanks for your understanding, Luke. TL;DR: Project still going ahead, extending the deadline due to the number of auditions and to allow for further development progress.
  • Really impressed!

Hello all! I didn’t expect to be posting an update this early, but I’ve been blown away by the number of auditions so far, and the awesome voice acting showcased. Thanks to each and every one of you who’ve already auditioned, it’s been thoroughly enjoyable to listen to you. I just wanted to inform everybody that I don’t plan to cast any of the roles until the deadline is reached, just to be fair to those who are yet to participate. Since the casting call has been posted, work on Potion Commotion has been ongoing, I’ve implemented various cursors to indicate what’s clickable in the game and I’ve been writing the scripts for the achievements and also a task system, where the characters will have a chance to request favours from the player in missions such as ‘Pride is at Steak’ or ‘Elf and Safety’. I’m also planning on drawing alternative sprites for the creatures, so they look more diverse. Thanks again, Luke.

Wogglebogg

Role assigned to: Patryk Sokol

Wogglebogg is the focal character in Potion Commotion and the resident Wizard of Eldershire. With his Potion Business struggling to make a profit, Wogglebogg decides to start growing his own ingredients. So he appoints the player as his personal Gardener to help him do this. Being born into a long line of Wizards and Witches means magic is in his blood. He became the youngest student ever to enrol at the Wizards R Us academy when he was aged 3, but unfortunately got expelled at the age of 4 for accidentally making the academy disappear. He later enrolled at the Eldershire Wizarding School where he achieved his Wizardry degree, specialising in Potion Making.

Wogglebogg's personality is that of a slightly crazy, often confused but always well-intentioned Wizard. But don't let his eccentricities fool you, he's still one of the most skilled Wizards in all the land!

  • You there! Yes, you, the weird-looking thing behind the screen. Perhaps you could help! My name is Wogglebogg the Wizard, and this creature beside me, is my talking pet Pig, Hamrietta.

  • Please help out a poor old Wizard and his curly-tailed friend! The situation is so bad, we haven't even eaten for 3 whole days! Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.

  • Congratulations you little Whippersnapper! You’ve reached Level 5! That’s 4 more levels than I ever expected of you. Let’s celebrate this milestone with the creation of more potions.

Role assigned to: clmero

Wogglebogg’s trusty companion. They became friends when they met at a Square Dancing class. Despite their constant bickering and virtually incompatible personalities, they tolerate one another.

Hamrietta is quite lazy, with a bit of a superiority complex. She can often be found complaining about the many woes in her life, such as there being a limit to her food supply, or how there are people in the world who aren't her.

On the surface, she may seem like an obnoxious, grumpy Pig, but deep down, really deep down, she's an obnoxious, grumpy pig.

  • Boggzy, we've been over this, I'm NOT your pet! I’m a strong, independent Pig who don’t need no owner! Now, when is my dinner being served?

  • HEY! Hands off the Bacon buster! Don’t make me come over there and Pork Chop you in half.

  • I do too have other interests! I enjoy eating, sleeping and avoiding social interaction. I also like to judge those who I deem inferior to me.

Sir Loinsteak

Valiant, dashing and charismatic. All words Sir Loinsteak would use to describe himself. There’s no doubt that as a Knight of Eldershire, Sir Loinsteak is an impressive individual, however, his greatest admirer is himself! When he's hired for your garden, the speed your creatures produce ingredients at is significantly increased. It appears animals are happier and healthier in the presence of a knight, even if the knight happens to be one with an inflated ego.

  • Watch out, a dangerously handsome man is on his way to your garden! Hold on, never mind. It’s only Sir Loinsteak.

  • Heroics and handsomeness will be with you imminently!

  • Unfortunately for you, Sir Loinsteak’s time is up here. Sir Loinsteak is going home to admire his gloriousness in the mirror.

Sweet by name, sweet by nature, Princess Plum has the kindest heart in all of Eldershire. Her natural beauty and delightful voice allow plants around her to grow faster, making her a very useful asset for your garden. She owns a pet Poodle named Steaky, named after Sir Loinsteak, who she openly dotes on, to which is he is oblivious.

  • Hey there sugar, I’d be delighted to spend some time in your lovely garden.

  • It’s a beautiful day to promenade in Wogglebogg's Garden.

  • I’m sorry sugar, but I’ve got to go, I’ll be away doing Princess-related stuff. If you need me, just give me a call.

The Elf Twins (Elfred & Elfreda)

Role assigned to: CosmicCosmo

Elfred and Elfreda, also known as the Elf Twins, are surprisingly Twin Elves. Ever since Elfred was born 10 minutes after Elfreda, they have been as close as Siblings can be, staying together wherever they go and even walking in unison and finishing each other’s sentences. They have a spiritual connection with trees and this makes the ones in your garden produce ingredients quicker when they’re around. That’s treemendous.

[If auditioning for this role, you are auditioning for both of the Elf Twins rather than just one of them]

Elfred speaking is indicated by (Fred:) and Elfreda speaking is indicated by (Freda:)

  • (Fred:) Elfred, (Freda:) and Elfreda reporting for Duty!

  • (Freda:) Yeah, we’ll come to your garden. (Fred:) But first, let us take an Elfie.

  • (Fred:) If it’s Elven Magic you want! (Freda:) Then it’s Elven Magic you’re gonna get!

Chester the Jester used to be the Royal Court Jester, but he was fired from the role after breaking the King’s funny bone. Now, he is a free agent, but since his jokes are so terrible, nobody wants him!

However, his bad puns and woeful one-liners prevent some pests from entering his surrounding area! As Wogglebogg’s gardener, you can use this to your advantage by hiring him for the garden to protect your precious supplies.

  • Do you know where the King of Eldershire keeps his armies? In his sleevies of course.

  • I don’t trust stairs, they’re always up to something.

  • Looks like it’s time for me to make like a Banana, and split! Buh-bye!

Alexa, Bringer of Elixir

Riding around on top of a Magic Carpet, Alexa can impressively extract Elixir with her mind.

She is as mysterious as she is powerful. Very little is known about her background or how she got her magical abilities. Her familiarity with Wogglebogg the Wizard is the only clue to her past.

  • My assistance is required? Then I shall work expeditiously to provide it.

  • Potion Making is truly a skill of the gifted, I will endeavour to support you in this craft.

  • The moment for my departure has arrived, give Wogglebogg my earnest regards.

These semi-intelligent beings are pesky little chappies! While not proficient with their speech, they are crafty when it comes to penny-pinching. They love to sneak into your garden and steal your hard-earned coins! Luckily they’re scared of Guard’em Gnomes and cursors, so there are ways to keep them at bay.

[Due to the Goblins having a Randomised Appearance, I will probably cast more than one person for this role]

  • Ooooh shiny, me likey!

Much like their male counterparts, Female Goblins enter your garden in an effort to steal. But the Females aren’t interested in your Coins, they’re interested in the Elixir you’ve collected. This is arguably a bigger hit to your inventory, so it’s a good job they appear less. They can be distinguished by their somewhat feminine features and purple clothing.

[Due to the Goblins having a Randomised Appearance, I will probably cast more than one person for this role]

  • Oooh, precious green stuff.

The Blobbii is a beloved species, native to Eldershire. They are bouncy, squidgy and curious, and are the most common Pet in Eldershire, but most Blobbiis are wild, roaming around the land both happily and aimlessly. Their vocabulary is limited to the word Blob, said in various tones to convey emotion. For example: Blob, blob, blob.
The most interesting thing about the critter is that they are a source of Elixir which is generated within them whenever they are happy. And you can release this Elixir for yourself if you give them a squeeze. They really enjoy being squeezed, so everyone's a winner!

[Due to the Blobbiis looking quite similar and having a Randomised colour, I will probably cast more than one person for this role]

It’s not a Gn-elf, it’s not a Gn-obilin, it’s a GUARD’EM GNOME! These tough little garden defenders will scare away pesky Goblins when they try to steal supplies from your inventory. What a Gnoble thing to do.

[The Guard'em Gnome doesn't have any spoken lines, just various sounds conveying different emotions]

Undisputedly the most important character in the game, he has such an impact, that he only pops up once a week with a single line before he disappears. Who is he? Where did he come from? Why does he keep reminding you what day it is? These questions are all part of the riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma, that is, the Wednesday Frog.

  • It is Wednesday my dudes.

  • (Sexily) It is Wednesday my dudes.

  • This isn't actually a line, just tell me a joke if you like. I appreciate humour.

Who you calling six eyes? This trinocular-visioned wonder first appeared in Eldershire after a spell on a Sheep went wrong at old McDonald’s Farm, Three-Eye-Three-Eye-O. They function mostly like regular sheep, although, they sometimes grow Rainbow coloured wool.

"Of course, a normal-sized Dragon wouldn't be a practical addition to a Wizard's Garden, so this breed of Miniature Dragon is the perfect way to harness their yummy Eggs for brewing Potions, without the risk of mass destruction."

Now I'm not actually looking for a typical sounding ferocious Dragon. As this breed of Dragon is a smaller one, I have in my mind a much cuter sounding creature, like a Pokemon. Pikachu’s voice would be a fair example of what I’m imagining.

(Please note, the Dragon has no spoken lines)

  • (A selection of Happy Dragon noises, not exactly laughs, but sounds indicating joy)

  • (A selection of your best Dragon roars! Remember to keep them cute as we're dealing with a Mini Dragon)

  • (A selection of Dragon sounds that convey curiosity, feel free to try varying tones or styles)

"This dessert from the desert is found exclusively in the exotic and delicious land of Al Khoco'ilhat! The Chocolate Milk they produce is udderly loved in Eldershire... Yes, that joke IS funny because Camels do have udders."

I'm fully giving you the freedom to audition for this character as you see fit. My best advice is to try to go for a fun, cartoonish sounding voice. Check out the cast auditions of the Sheep, Piggy and Skeleton to get a vibe of the sort of the other creature sounds that will be in the game.

Task Giver

In Potion Commotion, various characters will request the player to make certain Potions for them, in exchange for a reward. This process will be done through what’s known as the 'Task System'.

While the majority of tasks will come from recurring characters in the game such as Wogglebogg, Hamrietta or Sir Loinsteak, I'd like to have a selection of 'One-off' Characters to give the player a task.

So, this is your chance to be one of the said people!

I'm looking for you to introduce yourself (in character) and to ask the player to make you some Potions, explaining why you need them.

There is no restriction on your character or lines, other than your imagination. You could be a Troll, a Witch, a Fairy, an Alchemist, an Imp, a King or whatever else you can think of. (Just make sure you’re not using a character that I wouldn’t have the rights to, parodies are fine) The reason you need Potions could be anything you like!

In the audition, please introduce yourself (in character) and talk to the player directly about what predicament has led you to need the delivery of Potions.

Bonus Points for Humour, Fun Voice-Acting and creativity.

(If cast for this role, understand this is a one-line only character, though I will be casting at least 3-4 people in this role)

  • SEE ROLE DESCRIPTION! (In about 2-4 sentences, introduce yourself, tell the player that you need them to make some Potions for you, and why)
