P4GR: Central Cast
Project Overview
This is a project aiming to retell the story of Persona 4 Golden told from the perspective of the Yu Narukami character established in the Persona 4 Anime, Dancing, and Arena games rather than the silent protagonist leading the game. The ideal is to create a version of Persona 4's story that not only expands on Yu Narukami as a character, but the entire Investigation Team's individual members as a whole. Another goal of this is to retell the story in a different manner than most "Retold" or "Rewrite" videos on YouTube would offer, as you would notice that this is a podcast!
This specific Casting Call is in search of the key players for the story. In other words, the ones who are intrinsic to the story as a whole and are going to be the main subjects to change in direction for personal arcs within the media.
When posting your auditions, I ask you do not place any sort of filters on it (unless necessary, which I don't think it will be here) and also that you list your Discord in the description of your audition. This will be my primary means of contacting you and the cast. Hoping to have the server for the project up shortly after this CC is posted! ^^
And, further note, this will be the first collaborative project of this type I am running. So, I'm greatly looking forward to working with who I end up working with and am grateful to those who will help me deliver this to the world.

Now, for smaller projections like short stories and little comic draws, a singular writer would be fine. However, as you would imagine, something on a higher scale requires multiple people working together to give a creative idea the oomph it needs to be something more.
If you would like to audition for this spot, please link your Discord and I would love to throw ideas with the people who are interested.
Knowledge on the story of Persona 4 Golden (or at least base Persona 4) is required.
Say something you think would fit
Yu Narukami is a quiet, well-mannered young man who acts as the centerpiece of the Investigation Team. Despite his usual deadpan expression and mature demeanor, he is the most vocal about his beliefs in often "childish" concepts such as Friendship and Bonds. For this reason, he is able to make friends with others rather easily.
I'm not going to be unrealistic and ask for a perfect Johnny Yong Bosch impression. All I ask is that the voice at least sounds relatively fitting for Yu's character. If you would like to attempt a Johnny Yong Bosch impression, here's a link for reference.

You do NOT have to audition for Adachi as well. If you decide to, though, I ask that your voices for Yu and Adachi be similar to one another, but distinct enough to tell apart.
"You liked her, right? Saki, I mean. Then isn't that proof enough?"
"Calm the hell down, Yosuke!"
"People can do it. As long as they open their eyes and look around, they'll see it. They'll see the truth! If there is a fog, they just have to embrace the truth to get rid of it! This is what's right, and this is the path I choose to follow!"
Second-in-command of the Investigation Team. He acts as the antithesis to Yu's quiet demeanor, being a very loud and rambunctious character who speaks out much more but is often concerned about the wrong things. Unlike Yu, who has notable talent, Yosuke lacks such characteristics and often finds himself the subject of jokes that point out this fact.
I don't want an impression of Yuri Lowenthal, but I would like a voice that fits Yosuke's established character. But if you do want to do the impression, here's a link for reference.
"I knew it wasn't lying, but I was so ashamed I didn't want to admit it. You're me, and I'm you. When you get down to it, all of this is me."
"Whoa, you can cook? Well, you do seem good with your hands- . . . Um. Never mind."
"Distance doesn't matter to us! Even if we're separated, we're still friends!"
Co-founder of the Investigation Team. Chie is a kung-fu action fanatic, especially of the "Like a Dragon" series. This leads many people to believe that Chie lacks any femininity as she does boyish things such as wolfishly consume meat on the regular and spring to action in most situations. While she does have her insecurities about this, her friendship with Yukiko and the Investigation Team allows her to move forward despite them.
The voice I'm looking for does not HAVE to be akin to Tracey Rooney's lower tone or Erin Fitzgerald's higher pitch, I would actually prefer a middle ground between the two.
Here are the two voices for reference.
"Don't think. Feel."
"You don't know SHIT about how I feel! Yukiko might DIE from this, for crying out loud! I'm going, and that's that!"
"That's not true! Yukiko, you are one of the strongest people I know! You wanna escape? Then do it! You can break free of that cage all on your own! Leave there and go wherever you want! You gotta listen to me, I KNOW you can do this!"
Yukiko Amagi is viewed as the perfect woman and most beautiful girl at Yasogami High, a nomenclature which brings more attention her way than she can even fully notice. Despite her description as a perfect woman, her sense of humor is at such a degree that she can find most things humorous, and she has no tact or shame about it. The members of the Investigation Team even so consider her to be the kindest of the group besides Yu, and the most open-minded.
I don't need an Amanda Winn-Lee, but I would like something that can give a similar vibe. Here's a reference.
"What was I so afraid of before..? There was never anything to be afraid of. I have everything I need."
"...I'll crush you with one strike."
"I thought I could get out of here by solving the murders with you all... But that's just more running away. I'm not chasing my own goals. I relied too much on others. It's up to me to make my own decisions in life. Instead of looking for somewhere I'll be needed, I'll decide what I want to do and go where I have to. Where I want to be... Who I want to be with... I have to follow my heart to find those things... After all... It's my life."
Kanji Tatsumi is the muscle of the group. Starting off frustrated about his interests proving contradictory of his idea of what a "real man" is, he initially is antagonistic of the group. After having joined the team, he proves to be one of the most loyal and emotionally invested. He acts as a support for Teddie and Naoto through their individual struggles as he comes to settle his own matters himself.
While Troy Baker's voice is, to me, perfectly fit for Kanji as a character, any original take is welcome. Here's a reference.
"It's okay... Let the kid spill the whole thing. If not, Naoto's just gonna keep hurting... We'll just do our job and kick the Shadow's ass. Yeah?"
"I can't help it... I LOVE STUPID CUTE SHIT!"
"I get it now. Being strong means being proud of who you are. I might be stupid ad weak. Hell, maybe there's nothing good about me... You know... I'm okay with that. Being yourself ain't about shutting out the parts you don't like. It's about letting the real Kanji shine through, no matter what's happening. I'll do what I want my own way. That's what it's about. I started thinking like that after meeting you and the other guys. Man... This is crazy, huh?"
The mysterious creature the group found in the mist. Encountering them very early on in their adventure, Teddie as an entire existence offers a mystery to the group. He starts off as an empty, sentient, bear costume that has an infinite supply of glasses inside of his suit. Halfway down the line, he reveals that underneath the suit is a young man who looks like a prince out of a fairy tale!
Personally, I don't need a Dave Wittenburg or Sam Riegel, but all I ask is you remain in that range. Here are the references.
"Grrrrr! I-I'll do it...! Take a good look... At Teddie's last STAND!"
"Just say the word and it's BEAR time!"
"Doesn't matter how far apart we are. The bonds we've made will remain strong. Everyone's hearts are connected to the people they know and trust. It's those bonds that let us all search for our purpose in life. As long as it's a purpose you believe in, there will always be someone who could help you fulfill it. You, me, and everyone else, there are no barriers. Our hearts are one. Right, Sensei?"
A pop sensation on an unexpected hiatus. Rise Kujikawa, or better known to the world as "Risette", moves to Inaba to stay with her grandmother after she loses motivation for her job as an idol. While there, she meets and joins with the Investigation Team and there finds not only the motivation to make a show inside the TV World, but in the real world as herself, beyond the name Risette.
"Here. Stand up. I'm sorry... You must've been in a lot of pain up to now. You're part of me, but I kept refusing to admit you existed... I was trying to figure out who the real me was. But I realize now that I was on the wrong track. There is no 'real' me. It just doesn't exist. You... Me... Even Risette... They were all born from me. All of them... Are me."
"SENPAI, NO! DON'T LEAVE ME! . . . Phew, they're still dressed."
"Even after everything that happened, I wanted to change again. I thought I could do that by solving this case. Though in the end, it's still like saying 'this isn't my true self'. But there will be a time where I can't change so easily. Until then, I want to hold on to all of my selves. I've decided to do only the things I really want to do."
The suave detective "prince". Established as the youngest working on the official case surrounding the murders in Inaba, she is first seen interviewing Kanji before his disappearance. Later on, when she begins to piece together more of the puzzle, she gets herself kidnapped as a way to find some more intel on the culprit. Despite this proving futile, she does join with the Investigation Team and works with them to not only stop the murders from progressing but also improving herself. Not only as a Detective, but also as a woman confident in her femininity.
Naoto actually has three voice actresses, so here's the references.

"R-Regardless. I have no doubt that the culprit will continue his attacks. We can only watch and wait for him to make his next move... But this is no longer a mere job, or someone else's affair. I want to know the truth of why we were targeted. Please allow me to join in your effort."
"This potential... Was still dormant within me... I wasn't considering the things I should have. The people who care about me, as well as my own self... The detective, the child, the woman... The 'me' who existed before them... I am... Simply myself. I'm glad to have met you..."
"People can't live alone. If you give in and sever your ties to human society, it will naturally become hard to live in it. Yet you refuse to face life and admit your fault, running from your own humanity like a coward. And though you claim to find life troublesome, you caused nothing but trouble for many others! Your twisted logic is that of an immature, egotistic brat!"
Having lost his wife years prior to the events of Persona 4 thanks to a hit and run, Ryotaro Dojima is a distraught man who tries his best to support his daughter despite the ill schedule to be with her. He begins as a man who struggles to conversate with others but ends as a better man because of the support he allowed his family to give him.
Here is a reference to the original voice actor's performance, original takes are always welcome.

"'When is always', huh...?"
"Ah- Well. Nanako isn't afraid of me. She's just like her mother."
"This town is my town. It's the place where you and Nanako live. That's why I'm gonna live on, protecting this place. As a detective... As a father."
The man behind it all. Orchestrator of the many of the events of Persona 4, Tohru Adachi begins as Dojima's partner. As the case trudges on further and further, he often comes to lay out clues to the Investigation Team which are initially viewed as him just slipping up as per his reputation as the goofball of the pair dynamic he has with Dojima. However, after Nanako's dance with death, the group find themselves placing their suspicion on the least expected...
Again. If you audition for Tohru Adachi, you do NOT have to audition for Yu Narukami. His English Voice is literally the same as that of Yu's, just raspier, if that is what you are looking to approach it with. Original takes are always welcome.
"Relax, kids. The police are on the job! See you!"
"Oh, really...? Just what was it that made you want to believe in me SO bad...? Well...? I don't have anything to say to YOU. If crimes could be solved by appealing to morality, we wouldn't need the police. The person you believed in was only a version of me who existed in your head. You decided on your own to believe in me, and that decision betrayed you. Why complain about it to me?"
"Why choose reality when you can have a world of your own making? That's clearly the choice, y'know... I mean come on, we all prefer the easier life. Hehehe... You see, all reality ever gives you is boredom and bickering. And no one truly wants to live in a world like that. It's only because they THINK they have to accept it that they choose to buck up and deal. There's only one thing that's going to set you apart and let you succeed in life: it's the magic ticket they call 'talent'. And if you don't have it, then you're left to rot in despair. Game over. So wouldn't we be better off without this reality crap? Someday, you'll all understand what I'm saying. No matter what you try and do, reality sucks. And I, for one, am sick of it."
The young daughter of Ryotaro Dojima. Yu Narukami's cousin who becomes very close to him during the events of Persona 4. Young and impressionable, the group tries to shelter her from the chaos plaguing their city until she is forcefully brought into the picture.
If you want to form an impression based on Karen Strassman's performance: Here is a reference. Original takes are welcome also.
"Every day is great, at your Junes~!"
"Teddie... Big Bro... Are you guys... Horny?
"I'm... scared... Big... b..ro... Da...ddy..."
An amnesiac who becomes a denizen of the Velvet Room during the events of Persona 4. As she begins to uncover herself, a new element begins to add itself into the mystery brewing around town...
There is no requirement to sound exactly like Eden Riegel, but if you would like to go from that angle, here's a reference:
"'Beefsteak'? Huh. But if you drop the word 'beef' from it, you don't get any sense of what it's made of. It should be, like... 'Fsteak'."
"You're going to make new memories with me, right?"
"That's why...! That's why I left! Because there's no point in seeing you...! We'll just hurt each other! ...It's okay. It's all okay. I've already made enough memories of my own... Fun... Happy... Memories... If you're not going to leave now, then I'll have to make you leave by force. Please, just understand..."
