P4GR: Central Cast
Alex Bui for Tohru Adachi
The man behind it all. Orchestrator of the many of the events of Persona 4, Tohru Adachi begins as Dojima's partner. As the case trudges on further and further, he often comes to lay out clues to the Investigation Team which are initially viewed as him just slipping up as per his reputation as the goofball of the pair dynamic he has with Dojima. However, after Nanako's dance with death, the group find themselves placing their suspicion on the least expected...
Again. If you audition for Tohru Adachi, you do NOT have to audition for Yu Narukami. His English Voice is literally the same as that of Yu's, just raspier, if that is what you are looking to approach it with. Original takes are always welcome.
"Relax, kids. The police are on the job! See you!"
"Oh, really...? Just what was it that made you want to believe in me SO bad...? Well...? I don't have anything to say to YOU. If crimes could be solved by appealing to morality, we wouldn't need the police. The person you believed in was only a version of me who existed in your head. You decided on your own to believe in me, and that decision betrayed you. Why complain about it to me?"
"Why choose reality when you can have a world of your own making? That's clearly the choice, y'know... I mean come on, we all prefer the easier life. Hehehe... You see, all reality ever gives you is boredom and bickering. And no one truly wants to live in a world like that. It's only because they THINK they have to accept it that they choose to buck up and deal. There's only one thing that's going to set you apart and let you succeed in life: it's the magic ticket they call 'talent'. And if you don't have it, then you're left to rot in despair. Game over. So wouldn't we be better off without this reality crap? Someday, you'll all understand what I'm saying. No matter what you try and do, reality sucks. And I, for one, am sick of it."
So, your take gives way for a really good depiction of Adachi's true nature. Although, the first line is specifically chosen as a way to show if the actor can accurately portray the loose-cannon persona he puts on before they find out his true identity. At the very least, if you would like to do a retake, I would recommend taking a look at how Adachi acts in the earlier parts of the game before doing so. It will give you a pretty good idea of how to approach the line. Otherwise, for the other two lines, I would just say add a more sarcastic underlying tone to your words. Adachi's whole confident demeanor hinges on how he is notably uncaring towards anything that happens in the real world and only shows notable anger when someone he thinks can empathize with him opposes his ideals. So, during the "version of me in your head" speech, I would also put an edge to your voice at the all-capped words.
