Forest Grove - A mystery game
Project Overview
Forest Grove is a first person sci-fi mystery game. The year is 2072. A teenager suffering from Cotard’s Syndrome has gone missing in a small town in Oregon. The National Crime Unit uses its newest crime scene anti-contamination technology, the Nanodeck, to start investigating the home of the missing teen. During the investigation, relationships and secrets are uncovered. Foul play is suspected. If a crime was committed, evidence needs to be collected and charges need to be pressed!

Character Profile:
Zooey’s mom Rebecca killed herself when she was 10, her father got remarried when she was 13. She has a lot of ‘outcast’ friends at school and hangs out mostly online with them, playing games and chatting. She's full of resentment about life and what happened to her mother, which can come out in unexpected burst of anger and mean spiritedness. She's not sure she’ll ever get to be who she wants to be. She thinks of herself as damaged, awkward, weird, a girl who doesn’t fit in.
She's extremely sad about her mother, misses her life with her parents before she killed herself. Zooey resents her mom, and feels that she was selfish. But she's angry at the universe for 'making' her mother insane. She resents her father for ‘moving on’. Zooey doesn’t fully appreciate how good she has it, even though she strives to be socially conscious.
She's very interested in dance and drawing, spending hours practicing both. Her friends think she's very talented, but she doesn't believed them.
Now she's turning 16, and becoming more self-aware, more confident to show her softer side, her true caring self.
Well I don't know why she had to turn the camera's back on!
I think she's just spying on me.
You sure this is a good idea?
Character profile:
Keith is Zooey's boyfriend. He's an athletic teenage boy, and could be on a sports team or a runner, but likes to be thought of as a rebel. He lives with his mom in a part of town that is a little run down. He has some troublemaker friends but generally keeps to himself. Other than with Zooey, he spends most of his time at his part-time job. He doesn’t trust grownups, but wants a dad. He respects women and all the hard word they do. He tries hard to not hurt anyone, but won’t hesitant if he feels threatened or someone he cares about (Zooey, his mother) is being slighted. He's got a nasty temper and a short fuse, but is aware of it and tries to control himself. Keith can get into trouble, isn't yet fulfilling his potential, and a bit of a slacker. He's unsure of his future so can be insecure about his place in the world.
All right, we're better hurry then. Uh.. I'll text you from the road.
No, not really, but you want to know, right?
Well hey... that's not a bad idea!
Character Profile:
Zooey's stepmom, CrossFit type middle-aged women. Tries hard to be fashionable, but can end up dressing a little to young at times, but not terrible on cringe-y. Says she's vegetarian, but loves sushi. Basically doesn't get any jokes, not much of a sense of humor. Likes being seen as wealthy. She thinks of herself as rather deserving. Professes she cares about Zooey, but Zooey doesn't believe her, though they have stayed civil. Zooey thinks Mary is just a gold digger.
You have to take it, Zooey.
I'll make sure she takes it, doctor.
You'll get the full show, later tonight if you are lucky
Fit, like a tennis-club member middle aged doctor who’s hitting a midlife crisis. He really only has work friends, his assistants at the hospital and clinic, and other doctors and nurses and researchers. Tries to be chummy but is pretty competitive. A little creepy, a little chauvinistic. Always flirty with more attractive women, dismissive of those he thinks are beneath him. He can be self-aware about his faults, feels guilty about a lot of the negatives, but can justify them, to himself. But it's very easy for him to lose moral control in face of him ambitions.
This medication is custom made, designed specifically to help you.
It will make the situation much more manageable.
She'll be perfectly safe there.
Character Profile:
Henrietta is a middle-aged, caring housekeeper Zooey has known for half her life, and is her closest adult friend after her mother died. Henrietta is hard-working, fastidious, if a bit too lax on the rules when it comes to Zooey and keeping her out of trouble.
It's too sad here, I don't know if I can take it.
I was very quiet, just looking in on her.
All I'm trying to do is help.
Character Profile:
Brad is Keith's boss, a mechanic on antique gas cars. He's older, suspicious of technology and a big privacy advocate. He can be a little intense, but Keith likes him and looks up to him. Zooey tolerates him, but thinks he's a bit strange.
You said they were heading towards the coast?
I don't know about you, but I wouldn't go anywhere near that place...
You realize they can track you, when you have that turned on, right?!
Character Profile:
Roger is Max's business partner who took over the business after his death. He comes by the house to talk with Mary about Max's estate often, and Zooey doesn't like him at all. He's younger, ambitious, and singleminded on his own success.
You don't understand.
We'll get to the bottom of it.
We're past that point now, aren't we? Max, this could be huge for us!
Max is Zooey's father and a tech tycoon who died suspiciously 6 months ago. A very conscientious person, he was hoping to better the world through invention and technology. But as it happens more often than not, even the best ideas can be corrupted. He cared deeply for Zooey and his ex-wife Rebecca.
It's you that doesn't understand. Weaponizing our technology stands again everything I, and Rebecca, believed in...
And now my family is getting anonymous death threats? Zooey is in danger?!
Who approved these plans? And how did these plans get leaked?
Inspector Leeland, the detective agent in charge of the case
So you said, you put her to bed around 11:15pm?
During our interview with her doctor, he mentioned you met him downtown around 11:35pm?
Is there a sole beneficiary?
Yuki is Zooey's best friend. They met as penpals until Yuki came to Zooey's school as a foreign exchange student. She had to return home but they talk everyday, Yuki being Zooey's closest confidant. Yuki has always been more outgoing than Zooey, and pushes her to believe in herself.
What's gotten into you? You never cared that much before.
No, I like it! It's good to get back into things. Your mom would be proud.
I won't be able to chaperone you guys from Japan!
