Dubbing a Webcomic: Farmer's Tale Of The Three Kingdoms

Dubbing a Webcomic: Farmer's Tale Of The Three Kingdoms

Project Overview

A Farmer's Tale Of The Three Kingdoms is a Webcomic being made by two people, a writer and an artist. It is currently on webtoons but I wish to expand my horizons. For now, I am only seeking a cast of voice actors and an editor. I will include more in the future if it all takes off well.

Deadlines are going to be too much of a hassle, as life does bring problems rather suddenly. Feel free to let me know if you're busy or can no longer participate in the project. I will understand.

Latest Updates

  • An update, and good news for auditioners

I wanted to provide some more information about this story, something to encourage auditioners to try roles and even make up their own lines and suggest who they want to be in extras. The Three Kingdoms is a massive subject, with many many characters. With this taking place from Wen Zhu's perspective, many characers (both real and fictional) will appear. If you don't get a role, don't be dishearted. I'll almost certianly need you for a different character in the future. There are likely over a hundred NAMED characters in the Novel, and with me adding new characters to fit the story, I'll need plenty of voice actors!

Colonel Zuo Jing (Pronounced Zu-oh/Zu-ah. Ging, rhyming with ring.)

There isn't much to really say with Zou Jing, as history has almost nothing written about him other than he existed and helped Liu Bei in two battles during the Yellow Turban Rebellion... after that he just disappeared as far as I know.

  • We can't stay here! Drive these bandits away and pull back!

  • (Feel free to add a line or two that you'd believe would work for him)

  • (Same as before, up to you if you'd want to improv a line or two.)

Hua Tuo, styled Yuanhua (Pronounced Who-Ah Tw-oh, You-Ah-n who-ah) was a medical professional in the Late Han/Three Kingdoms eras. Not much is known about him, as much information was lost to history. What is known was that he was able to perform what seemed like miracles on the sick and wounded at the time.

He was a masterful physician and an acupuncturist. He was also a surgeon, and perhaps the first man in China to use anaesthetics for patients.

He will be around 44 or so at the beginning of the story, working as a traveling doctor.

  • I am Hua Tuo, styled YuanHua. Please, come with me.

  • No need to pay, you have already fought to save this city. You've paid enough already.

  • (Add any lines you feel would fit.)

Cheng Yuanzhi (Ch-En-g You-Ah-n Zhi)

(Zhi, Chi, and Shi all sound similar. Start with Chi with the i sounding like and E then go for the Z sound. Best tutorial I got for this one)

He doesn't appear for long. Cheng Yuanzhi serves as the first obstacle in Liu Bei's path. He has no lines in the Novel, but he has two lines here.

I pictured him as a rough riding and battle hardened rebel. Someone who has experience with fighting before but isn't familiar with an actual battle.

  • Impossible! Deng Mao didn't last a single bout!

  • I have to avenge my second or my men will feel discouraged!

  • (No other lines)

Just the extras who appear through the story as we go. If you feel like grabbing up a character, just say their lines and maybe mention which episode they are in if you'd want to.

  • "Rise and shine, peasants! Out of those filthy rags you call tents!" (Arrogant, booming voice.)

  • (Feel free to choose a character in the story and voice their lines. The previous one is an example of one such character)

  • (We also need a few people to voice Yellow Turbans who appear through the story. Though no females have appeared yet, we will have them appear later. Improv if you'd like to!)

Liu Yan, styled Junlang

Role assigned to: Lawrencebrenner

While historical, Liu Yan didn't meet Liu Bei personally, and in fact was in an entirely different location, the Romance of The Three Kingdoms places Liu Yan as one of the first nobles to meet Liu Bei. Liu Yan regarded Liu Bei as a nephew, and likewise Liu Bei regarded him as an uncle.

He doesn't appear long in this story, but Liu Yan tended to be rather cunning. Surprisingly, despite being related to the Imperial Han Family (The Liu Clan), he wasn't at all loyal to the Han Dynasty. Due to his short time appearance in this story, I won't be able to fulfill the vision I had for him. I had hoped to portray him in a more cunning, villainous nature, but having him sound benevolent and welcoming is acceptable as well.

  • “Ah! Colonel Zou Jing and Liu Bei of the Volunteer Force! I see both of you are safe and sound, and from quite a victory at that!”

  • “You both have my deepest gratitude. Come in, come in, you all need some rest after today. I will get a reward for everyone who participated in today’s battle!”

  • (All the lines this character has...)

Sergeant Shi Lian

Role assigned to: Dylan William van de Wal

Sergeant Shi Lian, (She Li Ahn) is a character not seen in either History or in the Novel.

He is highly inspired by Gunnery Sergeant Hartman and Sergeant Dornan. Shi Lian is more than just a sergeant by name. He was promoted through combat prowess, fighting bandits and outlaws who may cause any issues with the local populace. He won't appear in the story forever, but he will serve as one of the men who help train Wen Zhu up to a proper military standard. He will be loud, vocal, and clear with his words.

  • "I'll let it slide this time, Private. But if you ever go off without notifying me again, I'll have you whipped in front of everyone until I think you might get the idea!"

  • "I am not a sir! I work in this army, you morons!"

  • "What was that, privates? Did Either of you even pass through any kind of basic training? Fine, I'll train you two."

Role assigned to: Cryshulvo

Li Huang, styled Xingfu. (Pronounced Lee who-ah-ng, sound vaguely like One Guy (see Huang Gai and pronunciation for example), Ching-foo being the style name)

Like Wen Zhu, Li Huang is a totally fictional character. Li Huang serves as a naive optimist and a rather gentle soul despite being on the front lines. He was a blacksmith when he was younger, and is a lot stronger than he looks. He'd be the first to step up for what he believes is morally correct. Similar to Liu Bei in terms of moral compass, but lacks the intelligence or cunning of Liu Bei.

Li Huang, essentially, is the kind hearted country bumpkin type.

  • If I knew joining the army meant we could eat like kings, I'd have joined sooner!

  • Being a blacksmith got boring. Same dull town, same familiat faces. Joining the army seemed like a good way to see new places!

  • (Add any lines you'd say may fit.)

Guan Yu, styled Yunchang

Role assigned to: Gordon Secor

Guan Yu, styled Yunchang (Pronounced Gw-on You, Yun-Ch-ah-ng)

Guan Yu, the God Of War as he is known today, was a warrior in service of Liu Bei. In the Three Kingdoms novel, he was the second sworn brother. Liu Bei being the first, and Zhang Fei being the third.

Guan Yu was strong, and most certainly one of the most capable fighters of the realm. However, he didn't share the military cunning of most other generals including Zhang Fei. Regardless, Guan Yu was personally a masterful archer and wielded his glaive like it was his life. Facing him one on one was a ticket to the afterlife.

He begins the story rather humble, soft spoken, speaking when he needed to. But as each year went by and praises flodded his ears of his personal skill, Guan Yu slowly began to inflate his ego, later becoming arrogant and stuffshirted.

I'd imagine his voice would normally stay at an inside volume, if he spoke at all during the beginning of his journey. But when he needed to, or if the wrong button was pushed, he wouldn't hesistate to raise his voice or see to it that the troubles were ended quickly.

  • I expect everyone of you to act with dignity and honor. All of China watches what we will do this day.

  • Zhang Fei, sit. We will speak later.

  • (Add any lines you feel may fit!)

Zhang Fei, styled Yide

Role assigned to: Sinopol

Zhang Fei, styled Yide (pronounced Ch-ah-ng Fay, Yee-duh.)

Zhang Fei is the hot tempered third brother in the Oath Of The Peach Garden, an oath between Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and himself.

While hot headed and quick to anger, he is debatably the strongest of the three oathsworn brothers. He is often portrayed with a deep, rough voice, a love of drinking, and ready for any kind of fighting. Though loud, bull headed, and obnoxious, he wasn't stupid. Even if his mouth (or temper) could get him into trouble, he was quick to spot things out of the ordinary. That is, if he wasn't drinking.

When he was sober, however, he proved himself repeatedly as a capable general. Not the greatest, but for a small town butcher, he had outsmarted professional generals quite a few times. Not bad for a guy that most people consider an illiterate brute.

  • (Irritated) Do you not know who I am! I'm Zhang Fei, sworn brother of Liu Bei! Try that stunt with me again, and the next thing you'll eat is dirt!

  • Alright, first brother is on his way here and I want you all in perfect formation when he is! Get to it!

  • (Feel free to improv if you'd like!)

Jin Yan, styled Chende

Role assigned to: Lith Dahbour

Jin Yan, styled Chende (pronounced Gin Yah-n. Chen Duh)

Jin Yan is another of the characters who are totally fictional, neither appearing in history nor in the Historical Novel.

Personality wise, Jin is somewhat cynical and not afraid to play some devil's advocate with many topics. Learning more about the company he is with, as he feels, will let him know which way the winds are blowing so to speak.

On the battlefield, he understands that allowing the enemy to injure the man next to him would only make it easier for the enemy to hurt him. As such, Jin isn't afraid to try and help others, especially if there.might be something in return.

As for Nobility, he tends to be the most "open" about his distaste for them. Never so infront of the Nobles, but when in private... he will make it clear who he doesn't care for.

  • Why should I care? All those old stories are about how good the nobility is and how they can wage war all year long. Most of the time they don't even succeed, they just make things worse.

  • This whole Empire is full of morons! No wonder we are in this mess! The highborns are too stupid to eat their own breakfast without a council to help them, let alone *attempting* to govern a chunk of the Empire.

  • (Add what you'd feel would work best if you'd like to.

Liu Bei, styled Xuande

Role assigned to: BenRogers_VO

Liu Bei, styled Xuande (pronounced Li-you Bay, SHen-duh. The SH sound is rough, like in Sure)

Liu Bei is often portrayed as the kind hearted and benevolent imperial relative. While some argue whether he was a lying hypocrite or was actually the more kind hearted man the novel suggested him to be, we can't be quite sure. We do know he was Charismatic, and terrifyingly smart which he lightly hid behind a veil of his poor upbringing. He never showed his true intelligence too often, but when he did, it was always with a smile.

Liu Bei will be portayed as that cunning, yet kind hearted, figure that Wen Zhu idolizes later in the story. As it is from Wen Zhu's perspective Liu is elevated to that hero status, fitting with the narrative of the Three Kingdoms Novel.

  • I am Liu Bei, styled Xuande. It is an honor to meet you.

  • I have a saying too! Even if the world and its people abandon me, I will never abandon the people or the world! That is my pledge!

  • (Feel free to improv some lines or borrow some quotes of his from history or the novel)

Shi Xue, styled Dingsu

Role assigned to: Gabriel Larsson

Shi Xue, style Dingsu (pronounced She SH-ue, Ding-Sue)

Shi Xue is a older figure within the men that Wen Zhu first encounters in the story. Shi Xue is a middle aged man, around his forties. He tends to have a more neutral position on things, but often points out things that he feels should be taken notice of or looked into further. He isn't particularly hopeful for the way the Han Dynasty is heading, but is proud to the new generations fighting for their home.

He doesn't much talk about where he came from, at best he will admit that he enjoys traveling. Though some in camp can't help but feel there is more to this man than meets the eye.

  • Quit your whining and get ready, we have things to do today.

  • Old as some stories are, they always have something to share. Now shut up and listen.

  • (Add what you'd think may fit if you so choose.)

Wen Zhu, Styled Chaohui
closed
Paid: 5 USD per line
Role assigned to: Arkland

Wen Zhu, styled Chaohui (pronouced When Choo, Chow Hoi if I am correct) is the main character of the story, which is told from his perspective. Starting off during the Yellow Turban Rebellion, Wen Zhu sets off as a volunteer soldier to fight for the Han Dynasty. He also works as the story's narrator, giving insight from a future perspective looking back on events.

He is neither specifically pessimistic or optimistic, being someone who would try to see things for how he believed they were. At the start of the story, he is in high spirits and excited to join up with a man named Liu Bei to fight for his home.

He isn't the greatest warrior, or smartest strategist, but he isn't without his own bits of skill and luck.

  • The day I had met that leader is one I will never forget, even if I forget everything else.

  • If you get it set up, I might tag along. I'm Wen Zhu, styled Chaohui.

  • (Feel free to improv your own lines as well!)
