Jin Yan is another of the characters who are totally fictional, neither appearing in history nor in the Historical Novel.
Personality wise, Jin is somewhat cynical and not afraid to play some devil's advocate with many topics. Learning more about the company he is with, as he feels, will let him know which way the winds are blowing so to speak.
On the battlefield, he understands that allowing the enemy to injure the man next to him would only make it easier for the enemy to hurt him. As such, Jin isn't afraid to try and help others, especially if there.might be something in return.
As for Nobility, he tends to be the most "open" about his distaste for them. Never so infront of the Nobles, but when in private... he will make it clear who he doesn't care for.
Why should I care? All those old stories are about how good the nobility is and how they can wage war all year long. Most of the time they don't even succeed, they just make things worse.
This whole Empire is full of morons! No wonder we are in this mess! The highborns are too stupid to eat their own breakfast without a council to help them, let alone *attempting* to govern a chunk of the Empire.
