DanganRonpa: Paranoia Days (Fan Project/Nonprofit)
Project Overview
Silhouetted by the door, the group can see a huge toy in the shape of a cartoon cat, standing on its hind legs. Its right side is completely white, with a black button eye, while the left is charcoal black, with a red eye. Between two sharp looking fangs, there is a cruel looking smile.
The Medium closes her eyes and starts mumbling to herself, and the Diplomat tries to calm her down, to no effect.
The Martial Artist takes a fighting stance, "What is this?!"
Finally, the medium opens her eyes wide, and stares at the doll almost as if it wasn't there. "Evil has invited itself unto our lives. This is the beginning of the end.", she declares, to no one in particular.
"A robot.", says the Superhero.
"It's cute!", the Surfer says with a smile.
"I am your Host!", the feline says, in a cheery voice, much like a character in a children's show, "Enter the Courtroom. And let's have a chat."
"Host?", asks the Diplomat. "What do you mean?! What is this? Where are we?"
"Sooooo many questions, Nora.", says the cat, chuckling to itself. "Patience. Enter the Courtroom and all will be revealed."
The automaton walks its stubby legs to the big chair in the middle of the circle of stands, and sits on it, the little paws dangling from its seat.
The Lawyer sighs, "Very well. Let's get this over with."
As people settle into their places, the Cheerleader protests, "Ugh, what even is that thing?!"
"Our enemy.", says the Sniper.
"Enemy? I wouldn't say that.", the robot looks around to check on everyone. The Psychologist shakes feebly in her place, and the Philosopher tries awkwardly to calm her down. The Artisan eyes him suspiciously, while the Illusionist and his perfect poker face seems to be completely serene. His girlfriend, the Astronomer, can't say the same. Her fingers fidget nervously at the hem of her skirt. The Lucky Student seems to be in a similar condition to her, sweating profusely. The Actor sighs, playing with his hair. After checking everyone was on their place, he begins.
"Very well. I declare this session to be officially open! My name is Monokitty, and I am your Host. I trust your accomodations are to your liking?"
The Artisan chuckles sarcastically, "Tch, it'd be nice to be able to... Y'know, leave."
"Leave? And go where?", Monokitty giggles, "Trust me, you don't want to leave here right now. No, you can't leave... But you can go further in. You see, this is a place of freedom. Here we'll take off our masks, and take a look at what's underneath. This is what you always wanted. It's where you belong."
"You don't know what we want or don't want!", says the Martial Artist.
"No... But I know what I want.", Monokitty opens a wider smile, his voice turning slightly darker at this display of defiance, "And what I want... Is to propose a little game."
"Game? What do you mean?", the Diplomat asks.
"The only game that exists, Nora. The only one that matters. A game of life and death. Of trust and mistrust. Of hope and paranoia. Of loyalty and despair."
"You don't mean..."
Monokitty chuckles to itself. "The rules of the game are the same rules of life. You kill. Or you die."
----------
Hello, everyone! Thanks for taking an interest in DRPD!
Me and several of my friends played a text RPG based on the DanganRonpa series with our own characters, our own killing game, murders, investigations, trials, characters, plotlines and stories. It has recently come to an end, but it went on for three years and has become a huge part of our lives. It was a work of lots of love and attention to detail, developing characters' psyche and trying to be completely respectful of established canon.
As a parting gift, I thought it'd be nice for them to get to hear some voice acting for their characters and woulddeeply appreciate anyone's interest or will in recording a couple of simple lines for each character - maybe, at most, in the future, a short scene.
----------
DRPD takes place in a killing game played by the Class 73 of Hope's Peak. They graduated Hope's Peak before the gang from SDR2 even got into school, so our cast is considerably older! The game's mood is overall darker and takes a far more grounded and realistic approach rather than the usual whimsical shenanigans present in DanganRonpa games, and although it doesn't stop it from deep moments of empathy, comedy, romance and drama, the focus is on the inherent horror of the killing game and being forced into a survival situation. The main difference in DRPD is that the cast remembers their school years together! They all have established friendships, romantic interests and relationships, conflicts and dislikes by the start of the game - they just don't remember anything after graduation! I hope you like our characters and, if you're interested in more info on any of them or on the game itself, please feel free to contact me directly on Discord @ Just Hugo#4724!
EDIT: Guys, we're so overwhelmed by the amount of love and talent you guys have been giving us! Me and the crew have been coming here excitedly to listen to all these auditions, this is so much skill and effort you guys are putting into taking part in this, and it's really been a privilege and a joy to get to see it! This is all amazing, and it makes our job so much harder for having to choose just one for each character! Thank you so so much for all your auditions, we're all your Ultimate Fans!

Moralistic, but not dogmatic. Strong. Protective.
Banshi is quite a display of positive masculinity, being a real protector type. A good character reference would be Captain America and Superman - although perhaps a lot less charismatic overall. His voice needs to be low, show that care, but still be somewhat firm.
"Good morning. I'm Banshi Simo. Ultimate Sniper."
"I don't think that's right."
"We must become as strong as we need to be to defend what is right in the best way possible."
Egotistical. Narcissistic. Beautiful.
Haru Kobayashi is the Ultimate Actor, and the hugest star in the cast. He's been in several movies, is very opinionated and may seem shallow, but does show a good amount of loyalty to his friends and a level-headed mind during the killing game - even if it is peppered by sudden bursts of drama.
His voice should be feminine, soft and self-assured., maybe with a hint of overall tiredness and frustration.
"Oh, are you one of my fans? Maybe you've seen me in a movie."
"You know, I'm just a person too."
"Ugh, I just wanna get this whole thing over with!"
Edgy. Chaotic. Conflicted.
Hoozuki Kaminari is as volatile and as brooding as his dark aesthetic makes him appear. On one side, a genuine and fun friend. On the other, an edgy memelod. He tries to keep people at a distance by acting selfishly, being paranoid and chaotic, to hide his own vulnerabilities and traumas. Undergoes somewhat of a transformation, but still has several relapses throughout the story. He mostly tries to act like a bad guy to push people away, and in the processm, does genuinely bad things and fuels his own self-hatred for not agreeing with what he does himself.
His voice should be more of a typical edgy young man rather than a proper evil person. Lots of creative leeway is allowed, since he changes demeanor a lot.
"Hoozuki Kaminari, Ultimate Artisan... I make masks."
"Kekeke whatever you say, man."
"Well if you die try not to bleed too much - I signed up for cleaning duty today."
EDIT: Hoshi's description was updated with some pointers from the creator to her voice quality - I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, this is fully on me for misinterpreting its description! She's a little lower-sounding than I originally portrayed her as!
Intelligent. Insecure. Impulsive. Foul-mouthed.
Hoshi Yoshihara is the owner of an incredibly sharp analytical mind and curiosity - she's also at once incredibly insecure, paranoid and unable to handle her own impulses. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, and at the same time incredibly dismissive towards anyone else., having little to no patience for social niceties when her life is on the line. However, to those she loves, she's caring, patient and supportive, as well as an incredible asset during the investigations.
Hoshi is made of opposing forces.
*Her voice should be medium-pitched despite her small stature, more of a mezzo going soprano, with squeakiness showing when she gets nervous*, but should also represent her stubbornness and capacity for grit, while also showcasing her insecurity and general paranoia.
"I'm, er... H-hoshi Yoshihara! The Ultimate Astronomer!"
"Your 'logic' doesn't make any fucking sense!"
"We're... All gonna die..."
Mysterious. Cold. Charismatic.
Jumon Nonobu is our resident Magnificent Bastard - the character you hate but can't help to root for and respect. His sharp tongue and mind paired with his skill for misdirection and sleight of hand makes him an incredible useful asset for the group - and an equally large danger. The fact he seems completely unaffected by the killing game and doesn't seem to care for anyone except for his girlfriend doesn't help, and he does tend to fuck with people for his own amusement - then again, when shit gets serious, he does tend to respond appropriately and genuinely help with investigations and trials.
Jumon is, charismatic, sarcastic, and perhaps too full of himself - however also incredibly polite and useful . He's a huge jerk who happens to be on the right side, but that doesn't stop him from having fun with it. His voice should be low, velvety, smooth, seductive and cocky.
"I'm Jumon Nonobu, Ultimate Illusonist. Perhaps you've seen one of my shows?"
"Are you sure about that?"
"Well. People hear what they want to hear."
Rich. Insecure. Loyal.
Leiko Motome is a mix of opposing forces - she can't allow herself to show weakness, so she does her best to fit in and impress everyone, but deep down she's just incredibly insecure and lonely, having suffered complete emotional neglect by her parents. She's a sweet, loving woman and a caring friend, but her insecurity makes her act as conceited as can be to fit into the image her parents want her to be. However, during the killing game, she endures many personal losses, and shows herself to be a smart, capable woman, even if still being clouded by her social ideals and emotional stuntedness.
Her voice is probably velvety and soft, even if usually dripping with venom. Valley girl accents are optional, but encouraged,
"I'm Leiko Motome, you probably heard of the Motome Conglomerate? My parents could probably buy this school if they wanted to."
"Uhhh, take it down a notch, sweetie."
"I'm not a doll for you to play with! I don't exist only when you want me to!"
Aggressive. Serious. Determined.
To Masumi, life is a constant fight between your will and everyone else's, and it is everyone's own responsibility to fight for themselves. She is a belligerent, strong woman who has endured a great trauma at a very young age, which distorted her worldview and made her become bitter and distrustful. Deep down, she's loyal and tries to be as fair and good to others as possible, while prioritizing her own needs first. Her inability to open up and relate to others without conflict makes her a difficult person to handle, however, and that eventually leads to tragedy.
Her voice should be low, firm, serious and strong. She is open, impatient and proud. A good character reference, weirdly enough, is Bakugou, from BNHA.
"My name is Masumi Kabe, from the Kabe Law Firm. I'm the Ultimate Lawyer."
"Objection!"
"My father was the best man I've ever met - Becoming the Ultimate Lawyer is the least I could do to honor his memory."
Delicate. Polite. Intelligent.
Masuyo is a prodigy child in regards to empathy and intelligence. She's incredibly shy and introverted, but very supportive, empathetic, understanding and non-judgemental, often being able to understand people very quickly and read their behavioral patterns deeply well. She tries to use this skill for good, though, trying to help the group and support them through the killing game, while also respecting their privacies and not revealing more than she should.
She's the tiniest cast member, and her voice should be soft, delicate, and stuttery. She often cries from watching people fight and tries her best to act as a mediator - though her shyness sometimes gets the best of her.
"I-I'm M-masuyo K-kiyokawa..."
"I-I'm s-sorry..."
"L-let's t-try to look at th-things f-from th-their p-perspectiv-ve..."
Polite. Caring. Authoritative.
Nora is a sociable and warm person who cares deeply about her friends. Through her best intentions, however, she appoints herself the 'leader' of the group, and quickly becomes controlling and authoritative, using her social skill to manipulate the group into siding with her and silencing people who disagree with her quickly. To be fair, her heart is in the right place, and she doesn't do so from a place of ambition, but one of fear - fear that if people are allowed to act freely, her friends may die and the misplaced notion that it is her responsibility to keep them from hurting each other.
Nora's voice should be sweet, warm and polite, and not snobbish at all. She should sound approachable and kind.
"Hello! I'm Nora Butterfly, it's very nice to meet you!"
"Excuse me, but... Is that really what you meant to say?"
"Well, I can't let you do that!"
Enigmatic. Creepy. Intelligent.
Seiji Kuronoki is a highly educated, and incredibly socially awkward scholar. He's often squirrelly, fidgety, nervous and sweaty, if not downright creepy, although he does try to be as amicable and approachable as possible - to varying degrees of success. His fanaticism in analyzing and studying the concept of "the Movement" - what he calls the entirety of human society, past, present and future - is his main goal, and often is misunderstood by others. He has a little bit of a superiority complex, although he usually doesn't show it.
His voice should be awkward, and his speech pattern should be oddly paced.
"I believe... The nomenclature used by the school was Ultimate Philosopher, although I find it a curious choice, personally."
"Let me offer an argument against that notion."
"The Movement... It encompasses us. I am merely a watcher of its dance."
Insecure. Excitable. Genuine.
Shiro entered Hope's peak by luck alone, and lived a life that seemed to put him in between opposite ends of every spectrum, leading him to joke that he's in fact the Ultimate Average Guy. He believes that no matter how hard he works towards any goal, he'll always only manage to be average and is doomed to always be outshinedby his peers - however, he is also excited to have the opportunity, and deeply cares about them as people, making it a conflicting mix of care, friendship, envy and jealousy.
Shiro sounds like the prototypical anime protagonist. A good reference is Midoriya, from BNHA.
"W-whoah, you guys are so cool!"
"Eh, I'm more of... Just... Uhm... Like, an average guy."
"N-no, wait, that's wrong, right?"
Loyal. Honest. Cheerful.
Soichi Nakamura is the wholesome, friendly, cheerful and protective martial artist who is very deeply food motivated. He's not particularly smart nor dumb, but he does display some amount of wisdom that he learned over the course of his martial arts training. He cares very little about competition and abhors violence. To him, martial arts are just that - art, to be perfected and appreciated and taught, but never used if not for self-defense and the protection of those he love.
His voice should be loud, and warm, but soft and overall kind - he's not a fighter or sportsman, he's more of a friendly martial arts instructor with a passion for teaching!
"Yo! I'm Nakamura Soichi! I'm the Ultimate Martial Artist!"
"Don't touch my friends!"
"Will there be any food?"
Cheerful. Optimistic. Patient.
Tayumi is a warm and friendly young woman with incredible big-sister vibes. She's patient, supportive and open, always trying to look on the bright side of things and cheer everyone up, letting nothing and no one get in the way of her mission to brighten people's days and be respectful of their emotions. She is a little dumb and inattentive, and thus not really useful during trials and investigations, but she does show an incredible amount of emotional intelligence and wisdom, being an invaluable friend to open your heart to and just vent for a bit in a safe, nonjudgemental space. She does have a more fiery streak - but it's often only directed to her profession, as her goal is to break the world record of largest wave surfed.
Her voice should be warm, soft, patient and slow paced.
"Hey, hey! I'm Tayumi Hamasaki, but you can call me Yumi! What's up?"
"Wait... What?"
"It's okay to be scared, you know? And you can cry if you need to. I'll be here with you until you're done.."
Creepy. Mysterious. Unstable.
Unmei Seishin is not a real medium, but believes herself to be. Being the owner of an exceptional mind, she is easily the smartest member of the cast, but is also ailed by untreated Schizophrenia, and bouts of dellusion supported by Hope's Peak in order to feed into her "talent" and study her mind, as her case is somewhat unprecedented in the psychological community - due to the sheer intelligence and brainpower, her hallucinations seem to always point out to her subconscious information about the people around her and her environment, effectively making her the Ultimate Detective. She is an invaluable asset to the group during the killing game, but also needs special care and often has bouts that bring as much trouble as help, involuntarily.
(Disclaimer - I study mental illness as part of my Master's degree, and have had personal contact with people who suffer from Schizophrenia. I know reading the character like this may seem like a shallow representation of the illness, but I did my best to honor it and make it both into a compelling narrative element and a truthful honoring of the schizophrenic experience - that being said, I am not a psychologist myself and do not suffer from it, so I also recommend taking it as it is - not a fully inaccurate nor completely accurate representation of it, but something that does try to be as faithful and respectful as is possible.)
Unmei sounds monotone and neutral most of the time, if a bit tired, having a low, deep sounding voice.
"The name given to me is Unmei Seishin. But that is not my Soul's name."
"I am an agent of Truth. The spirits speak to me to show me where to find it."
"You are lying."
Energetic. Determined. Brave.
Yuki Yoshida meshed her skill in creatively using resources, physical aptitude and sheer endurance to pain to become the masked vigilante, Super Captain Starbright. In this persona, she tries to act as a symbol of Hope to children and adults alike, as a genuine protector, using her inventions and physical prowess to protect those who need it. However, Yuki herself is a disheartened, grim, insecure fully grown woman. She is truly a huge nerd in both personas, and is overall hopeful, but the Hope she performs as Starbright and what she truly believes in are quite different.
Her voice should be like a badly acted and stereotypical superhero voice, trying to sound more confident and gallant than she really feels. Her true voice is far more down to earth.
"In the darkest hour! As a beacon of hope, she rises! Dun dun duuuun! I'm Super Captain Starbright! Ultimate Superhero!"
"Someone has to be an example... A symbol that the world can still be pure and good, and that childlike wonder can still have a place in it!"
"Surrender now, villain, or prepare to face the Supernova!"
