Project Overview

What is this?


This project is a fan dub of the video game Coffee Talk, a cozy drink-brewing simulator that entails listening to the cafe’s patrons and their everyday lives. The cast consists of humans and fantasy-inspired entities that coexist with each other — they live modern lives not too foreign from our own. From choosing a passionate yet dubious career path over a more stable yet demanding one, to abandoning outdated familial traditions in the name of love, every character has a story to tell. This story is accompanied by beautiful visuals inspired by 90’s anime and jazzy, relaxing music. 

This project aims to breathe more life into the beloved cast. By removing the pixelated dialogue audio, including the voices of talented individuals will undoubtedly create a more stimulating and engaging experience. 

Requirements

  • Please make sure you have a good-quality microphone that can clearly record your lines without picking up background noises and other jarring and irrelevant audio.

  • Please audition if you can stay committed to this project and are looking to improve your skills as a voice actor, as many roles require a lot of lines. 

  • If you are auditioning for/are interested in the role(s) of Freya, Hyde, Gala, and Neil, you must be 18 or older! While the game is mostly SFW and contains no sexually explicit scenes, those aforementioned characters sparsely engage in suggestive dialogue throughout the game.

  • Keep in mind that this is an unpaid project. 

  • Be sure to include your discord username for contact purposes if you are chosen for the role.

  • And most importantly, have fun! Be creative with your interpretations. All attempts will be greatly cherished.

Other notes

  • You may audition for multiple roles! I highly encourage you to do so.

  • I will be voicing the barista. Apologies to anyone who was hoping to audition for that role.

  • Positive feedback will be given for every submission! If you do not wish for this, feel free to comment that in the notes of your audition.

  • The Deadline is Tonight! + Final Notes

    Hi everyone! As promised, the deadline for auditions is tonight. I will finalize the main cast and reach out via CCC group DMs, then Discord, promptly. Casting should be done by the end of this weekend. Any auditions submitted past February 10, 11:59 PM EST will not be considered. That is only fair to those who have already auditioned. 

    And I must note — it’s been a few chaotic weeks. Between unexpected events and a couple of stressful, ongoing family emergencies occurring shortly after posting this project, I have not been able to monitor the whole audition process as frequently as I had wished to. However on a brighter note, I’m honored to see that so many people auditioned in only a few weeks. Thank you all for your continued support and effort in bringing this project to life! I won't let you down.

    Anyway, each person’s interpretations were excellent, which just proves that you have so much talent and will keep improving as actors. Here are just some last notes/things to expect:

    • Freya will have one main actor and one understudy! She has the most lines, after all. The understudy will also have access to the discord server and voice over a few episodes when necessary. 

    • There are many factors to consider when casting a role! So many actors had amazing interpretations for their auditions but there are unfortunately only 11 main roles and quite a lot of contenders for each role. There is also a matter of potential chemistry with the other actors. 

      • The main roles will be chosen not only based on the actor’s interpretation and compatibility with the character, but also how well their voice suits their character’s romantic interest. To exemplify — Baileys and Lua are said to be around the same age; it would make sense for them to sound similar in age, and not for one to sound way older or younger than the other. That rule also applies to Aqua/Myrtle and Hyde/Gala. 

      • So if you are not cast, it does NOT mean that you did not do a great job, or that I did not like your audition. In fact, I’ll try to give awards to my favorite/runner-up performances if CCC allows!   

         

    • I will reach out to a few runner-ups for a few more small, one-time roles — for instance, “the Agent” is a character that shows up for less than five minutes. This could occur anytime during the production process.

    • While I have listened to every audition submitted (on time) so far, I might have missed giving positive feedback to a few in the midst of all the chaos. I will try my best to go back and comment on the ones I might have missed.

  • Deadline Extension + More Roles Needed!

    Hello! Once again, thank you all for keeping up with this project and submitting many wonderful takes. I cannot believe so many people have already auditioned for a project that has only been up for just about a week! HUGE shout out to everyone here! 

    While we have many great contenders for each role, we are still missing some of our main cast. 

    If anyone is interested — or has any friends who might be interested — in trying out for Myrtle, please do so or spread the word! 

    And if you’d like to contribute to this project but do not have the time to commit to a main role, do consider auditioning for the background voices role! Most submissions will be accepted and included/credited in the final project. Those who have already auditioned can also submit anything for this role. 

    In the meantime, this extension will hopefully also give more people a chance to get their auditions in and try for roles they previously did not consider. I'm expecting to cast everyone at once so no cast member feels late to the party.

"Freya is a main character in Coffee Talk, and a frequent daily visitor of the coffee shop. At the start of the game, she is a short story writer for The Evening Whispers newspaper.

Freya is cheerful and bubbly. She'll greet the customers coming into the shop with a smile and seems to make friends easily. She can be quite mischievous and perseverant, as shown when she pesters Jorji for stories. However, she can get very serious about the things she's passionate about, to the point where she will go without sleep for days on end. She can also get quite anxious about her writing, fretting about being caught and if it's good enough. "

Background info and personality: 

Lua is a character and costumer at the coffee shop. She is a pink succubus. She is currently in a relationship with Baileys, an elf.

Lua is a family-oriented being who values stability and spends a lot of her time worrying about the future. She wishes the best for her loved ones. Unfortunately, both Lua and Bailey's families do not approve of their relationship due to their prejudices toward each group.

Background information and personality


Baileys is a customer of the coffee shop. He is a male elf and a freelance designer. He is currently in a relationship with Lua.


Baileys has several personality traits attributed to elves. The usual grin of his face shows his mischievous mind. He absolutely hates his family and their tradition, and does his best to look very different to them. Unlike many elves, he has no problem with racial diversity, and is even in a relationship with a succubus. He is very loyal to his girlfriend, although he stated that he used to be a player and to flirt with many girls before meeting Lua.


He can be short-tempered, and doesn't always thinks of the consequences of his actions (such as leaving his family for Lua). He might seem a bit haughty at first sight, for example during Day 1, when he slightly laughs at the latte given by the barista and even finds it "cute" that the barista "calls that latte art". However, he is very sweet and this prideful first impression is probably due to his elven origins.

Feel free to interpret his voice however you want! One note: it should encapsulate his mischievous yet laid-back personality.

Jorji is a human cop, and a friend of Freya's. He is a regular of the coffee shop and works for the Seattle Police. He speaks fondly of his three daughters. 


He is a cold-headed and honest man. He cracks a joke every once and a while (many involving dad jokes), and tries his best to be helpful while following his own principles.

Gala is a regular client in the coffee shop. He is a male werewolf and works in the Seattle hospital. He was introduced to the barista previously to the game events.


He is also Hyde's best friend, and the two of them get along very well.


Gala tends to be kindhearted and gentle with everyone. He is always eager to help others, explaining how he got the idea to work in a hospital in the first place. He also seems like a very wise person. Gala takes care of his friends, as shown multiple times in his dialogues with Hyde.


As a war veteran, Gala appears to have suffered of PTSD at some point, as explained briefly by Hyde. With the help of a therapist and his friend, he eventually overcame this issue. Those events encouraged him even further to work in a hospital.


The werewolf also seems to like cats, and to be gentle with them, as shown on his Tomodachill profile picture

Hyde is a Vampire. He has done many jobs, but his current one is freelance model. His closest friend is Gala. 

Attractive and alluringly mysterious, Hyde is more of an observer and keeps to himself; he is not a fan of small talk. However, he is not afraid to speak his mind and to tell others that their opinion is flawed. Despite his cold and aloof nature, the conversations that he gets involved in are nothing short of entertaining.

A young nekomimi idol and former member of the girl's group Super Smile who's recently gone solo. Hendry's daughter.


Rachel seems to be the youngest member of the cast, and is definitely the most immature. She frequently points out that, being eighteen, she is "officially" an adult and is deeply frustrated by Hendry continuing to (in her view) treat her like a child. Older patrons of the shop tend to look out for her, particularly Jorji, Gala, and even Freya.


Rachel is shown to be playful and witty throughout the game.

An unusual customer who comes from "far away" who always wears a spacesuit. Neil is dedicated to their mission to find love on Earth.


Neil, at first, has a confident yet jarring personality, due to them not being from earth. At the end of the game, though, Neil has a more natural charisma after getting adjusted to Earth and its customs.

A very shy mermaid from a very conservative family in Atlantis. She moved to Seattle to work in computer graphics technology. She's also an aspiring indie game developer.


Aqua is sweet and shy. She can be nervous about the smallest things, such as just coming into the shop. She has big dreams of becoming an indie game designer, but is unsure how to reach her goal. She cares about her friends very much, showing it when she reminds the Barista and Freya to take a break, and when she compels Myrtle to take a vacation.

An older nekomimi man who used to work in the music industry. Father of Rachel. Became immensely overprotective of Rachel after his wife passed away. This has caused a strain in his and Rachel's relationship. 


Hendry is extremely paranoid and protective of Rachel throughout the game; we find out that he worked in the music industry extensively and saw first-hand all the shady mishaps that occurred, and is ultimately proven right about Rachel's first manager.
