Bestiary of a Nighthunter is a visual novel following the story of Dedris, a monster hunter haunted by his past, and daunted by a bleak future. Still, he pushes on, determined to atone for his sins and leave the world a safer place for those that come after him.

Character:

Khana/Kithnir is a lead role that could either be male or female, so anyone is encouraged to apply. They belong to a race known as the Iadins, which are a fantasy race of people with silver hair and skin like stone that feel no pain. 

I am not looking for any particular accent, so take your pick, and have fun with it! They are not native to Midora, so feel free to get creative with how you think they would sound. The main tone I am looking for is a husky voice with a slight optimistic quality to the voice, but again, I'm not set on any one thing just yet so give it your best shot!

As for the production side of things:

Here are the details relevant to the project itself. This is a visual novel/podcast that involves a mix of voice acting conversations between characters and reading/narrating stories. This could mean an episode for this character could be anywhere from 400 words to 2500 words. Preferably, anyone auditioning should be available for live directed sessions, or at the very least rerecording's should I need tweaks.

IMPORTANT: This project is planned to be four seasons of about 20 episodes each. As this is one of several recurring characters, they will be in almost all of these episodes. This means I will need you to be able to commit to this project over a long period of time (approximately 2-3 years). I'm looking for someone interested in more than just voice acting that wants to get involved with the project itself. Feel free to ask for more details.

This project is starting out as a passion project that's lived in my brain for years. All production costs have come out of pocket so far. This means that while I certainly want to pay people appropriately for their time, my budget is rather limited. Off the bat I wouldn't be able to pay much past the minimum, but if things go well, that will hopefully change around the second or third season as the projects Patreon (ideally) gains traction. (and when it says $25 per project, that means per episode for now). I fully intend to properly compensate people should the project do well, but I do understand that that amount of trust is difficult to just throw out there.

Sitri is a major character that returns throughout the story as well as in side content that will launch alongside the main story. I need someone able to commit to several years working on this project.

Sitri is a devoted scholar passionate about uncovering the lost secrets of Midora's past. She is incredibly intelligent, and takes great risks to pursue her field of study, venturing into the monster-ridden wilderness to do so. 

In terms of a voice, I am looking for something inquisitive, passionate, and calculating. Think of characters like Viktor from arcane, or a more reserved version of Hange from attack on titan.

Character:

The role of the necromancer is as one of the primary antagonists in the show. This character is infested with dark magic and his own spite. His body is disfigured by injury and the corrupting effect of his magic. As such, the voice should reflect all of this. I need a deep, sinister, SLIGHTLY raspy voice capable of ranging between a whisper and a frenzied speech. With that in mind I have to mention that I'm not looking for something cartoonish evil. When I say raspy, I imagine something like the witch king from Lord of the Rings This guy is speaking with a raspier voice because his body (and vocal cords) have been damaged, not because he is a maniacal villain. It should have a deep quality of gravitas that commands the room.

Henna is a minor character that I intend to bring back into the story later on during the project. As with other minor roles I can't afford to pay for the role at the moment, but should their role become more significant later that will change. With that in mind I need someone able to commit to returning to this role down the road so please don't audition if you can't do that.

Important note: Henna does swear pretty freely, so if you aren't comfortable with that then please don't apply.

Onto the character herself, Henna is a member of a band of thieves. She is a hardened bandit with a gruff tone to her voice. I am okay with any accent but something slightly Boston comes to mind, though this is a fantasy world so don't overcommit to that or it won't fit into the world. Henna has lived a tough life, scrounging for scraps. She is disagreeable and has a good sense of who she can and can't get the best of in a scrap. She acts as a wiser counterpart to the leader of the band of thieves, Keff.

Henna is a minor character that I intend to bring back into the story later on during the project. As with other minor roles I can't afford to pay for the role at the moment, but should their role become more significant later that will change. Onto the character herself, Keff is the leader of a band of thieves in his mid thirties. He is arrogant, and ruthless, but he cares for the people around him. He speaks like a street urchin, improperly and with a lot of abbreviations. I am thinking something similar to a Boston accent, though don't overcommit to that as it will be quite jarring if you do.

As for the character themselves: Tien is a young boy, the son of a merchant lord (he's essentially a prince). He is a bright, excitable, optimistic young boy with a bright future ahead of him. He dreams of one day defending his people as a monster slayer, though he is impatient when it comes to the limitations of his age.

I'm looking for the voice of a young girl to play the restless spirit of a banshee (age range 6-10). This soul is tethered to the world, unable to leave due to its curse. It haunts the woods near a town and has been marked by a monster hunter.


-The voice should be able to transition between a longing melancholy and a shrieking anger.

-Please do NOT apply a voice filter. I will be doing that myself.

This is an open call to anyone interested in this project. I am looking for people willing to assist in spreading the word. I have big plans for this project, some of which will only be able to become a reality with a certain amount of funding. Beah is a witch who lives alone in the woods. I need a friendly, older voice of around 65 years. She is kind and (grand)motherly, although a bit odd, as years of grief and loneliness have made her prone to speaking to herself, adopting strange sayings, and making odd jokes. 

Her relationship to the main character, Dedris, is acting as an adoptive mother. She loves him dearly, though he isn’t around much anymore as his duty as a monster hunter keeps him living on the road.

In summary, a list of what I’m looking for is:

-An older, friendly voice with a wide range of emotions

-A witch’s cackle. Nothing over the top, just a solid laugh (like an eheehee)

-I do NOT want an over the top stereotypical Halloween witch voice.


This is a recurring character so I need someone willing and able to return to the role throughout the next few years. As with several other roles, it is unpaid but that will change based on the success of the project. Have at it!

  • How adorable. Hmm. But also angry, like a rabbit without skin. Oh hush dear, you’ll understand one day.

  • (laughs) That’s a new one. Imagine comparing the woman that took you in and raised you to a hag. A curse! Ha! It has been lonely without you and Edarin around to make this old woman laugh.

  • Yes I suppose it is. I like to get creative with such things, however. Terrible as moonspawn are, I find myself enjoying working with them. They don’t much enjoy it, but I don’t tend to listen to their complaints.
