Westside Noir (Fallout: New Vegas quest mod)

Westside Noir (Fallout: New Vegas quest mod)

Project Overview

Westside Noir (also known under its former working title "Westside Story") is an ambitious, large-scale quest mod for Fallout: New Vegas. Featuring a branching, multi-hour RPG storyline, it is brimming with unique, layered characters and idiosyncratic factions waiting to be brought to life by your performance.

While the first round of casting was carried out on a separate project page, this one is permanent and will host all available parts going forward. The currently targeted release window is towards the end of 2026.

SETTING:

Westside Noir is set during the events of Fallout: New Vegas, taking place in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Sin City and the surrounding Mojave Desert.

STORY:

Centered around the eponymous district of Westside, this is a detective story in which the player is tasked with tracking down a missing person. Embarking on an investigative odyssey through the vast urban sprawl, they'll meet its motley denizens, connect dots aplenty and become entangled in a far-reaching conspiracy spanning the entire city.

REQUIREMENTS:

You should have a Blue Yeti microphone with a pop filter at minimum to meet the desired audio quality. Once cast, the lines will be transferred to you in the form of a spreadsheet. I would prefer to communicate via Discord DMs. You don't need to worry about audio processing and line splicing, I'll inflict that particular vexation on myself.

GENERAL NOTES:

  • Rather than adhering to a general deadline, any role that has been available for at least 2 weeks is subject to casting.

  • Further roles will be added periodically, so I strongly recommend tracking the project for updates.

  • For most roles over 30 and under 100 lines, the stated line counts are estimates and may end up skewing a little higher or lower.

To get an impression of the project's overall tone and writing style, you can refer to this playlist of demo clips showcasing the beautiful work of various actors cast so far:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB8uaAoP6Fk&list=PL0QHqnW0SkEZglGLKoQtBFiDpiKomgVEd

And lastly: if you've already auditioned or been assigned any parts before, you are more than welcome to give it another go!

Latest Updates

  • Added 5 new roles!

Happy Sunday, everybody! Thank you very much for your interest in and quality submissions to this second round of auditions. I've made sure to listen to each and every one of them, and am grateful I'll soon get the chance to work with so many talented individuals.

For your information, I have added 5 sizable parts to the casting call today, all of them generic variety NPCs who will bring the world to life with their chatter. New roles listed below:

    • Westside Militia - Male Variant

Furthermore I wanted to reiterate that any role in this round will become eligible for casting 2 weeks after first being posted. If you want to try out for any further roles, please be aware of these soft deadlines after which they could be assigned at any given moment.

That is all for today. Thank you once again and have a lovely start into the new week!

Duchess Danielle is a Shakespeare-trained actress and the de-facto leader of the Thespian Guild, a monarchic organization grown out of a pre-war acting troupe. A woman of great power, talent and intellect, she exudes stage presence, aristocratic dignity and cold calculation in equal measure. As the player encounters her, she is caught up in a dispute around the succession to the organization's throne and will stop at nothing to secure it for herself - after all, every other outcome would result in certain death.

In keeping with the Guild's tradition of integrating their canonical texts into their vernacular, her manner of speech is dense and rhetorical, dripping with theatrical quotes and literary allusions.

NOTE: While any North American accent would be fine for her, a posh or even Shakespearean British one would of course be especially apt.

She is wise, personable and has lived a full and eventful life, though when encountered away from the hustle and bustle of the streets, it becomes clear she has yet to come to terms with her personal tragedy - and that perhaps she never quite will.

Shacked up inside a multiplex theater, these are the foot soldiers of the 'Tampico Crew', a raider gang born out of a pre-war acting troupe. While the higher-ups still concern themselves with their theatrical heritage, the stagehands are mostly newcomers hired straight from the wasteland and the slums, serving primarily as guards and drug smugglers.

While these characters are mostly intended as a potential enemy variants or background extras for a quest hub, their scripted and ambient conversations serve to tell the player a lot about their faction and its standing in the world and they also have limited dialogue interactions with the protagonist.

Only after he arrived did Aulus realize this was a trap; the slavers are not remotely fit to join the Legion, but to give up would mean failure, and thus death.
