Mitch is mid 40's. Single parent, his wife is deceased. He is struggling for money having just started a new business and his son and the dog aren't behaving as he wants them to behave.
"You are supposed to be out there guarding the garage... not in here thieving" Context: Said to a dog (Rollo) who is trying to steal some pizza. Displeased and annoyed but not to angry just exasperated.
"This is your fault! He's a guard dog, not a play toy!" Context: Shouting at his son for playing with the dog and making him soft.
"I'm so sorry Tommy... I should never have.. I just... I didn't mean to..."Context: Mitch almost hit Tommy for being "girly". He should sound distraught, extremely upset, almost as thought he is going to cry he's so ashamed of himself.
Ian is mid 40's, a father of two children, happily married. Successful small business owner.
"How's Mitch and Son Automotive coming along?"
"How's the eh... guard dog working out?" Context: The so called guard dog is playing around like a puppy with the children. Ian should be mildly amused.
Rosie is about 6 years old. She is very out going, very confident, and very bossy.
"You wanna play?"Context: Spoken to a dog and a young boy.
"You be the Knight.... I'll be the Princess..... Rollo can be the dragon." Context: Assigning play rolls to her new playmates.
"You are a bad dragon."Context: The dog failed to play at being a good dragon and Rosie is mildly annoyed about it.
Tommy is about 8 years old. He is the main character but he doesn't speak until right at the end. Tommy is shy, gentle and very caring, the opposite of what his father wants him to be.
"I'll play football... I'll play rugby... whatever you want... just don't be mad."Context: Tommy's father has almost hit him for being a bit "girly". Tommy is pleading with his dad.
"I'm sorry too... It was my fault.... I'll never do it again." Context: Tommy pleading with his dad still, trying to reassure him that he will behave properly from now on. Tommy should be pleading and a bit frightened.
