Project Overview

The Sci-Fi Project

(not its actual name)

The Sci-Fi Project takes place in a unique sci-fi/fantasy universe with loads of aliens, planets, and technological advancements.

Oh, and no humans, I think we see enough of those everyday.

What is this?

This project focuses on comedic character interaction and intriguing character designs.

It follows Mona, the grumpy and socially disconnected Pale with proficient marksmanship skills and odd cat-like behaviors,

alongside Gim Bink, the incredibly strong but incredibly dim-witted Blorc with a cursed golden skull,

and Maris, the kind but cheeky mechanically-inclined alien Mermaid with prosthetic legs.

I need some voice actors for this project. Previously I've used voice blips akin to Banjo Kazooie or Chibi-Robo, but they don't have the same oomph as real voice acting.

The current plan is to do a handful of shorts (actual shorts, not YouTube shorts) and later some longer animations, where we get to see the character's dynamic ranges play off each other, with cartoony PSX-styled animation to boot.

Requirements:

  • Include your Discord ID under your audition. That'll be the easiest way for us to communicate if you're picked.

  • Be ready for any possible changes that may occur, scripts are pretty much final but slight things may still change.

  • Don't leak anything unless I give you permission, I'd like for a lot of these things to be a surprise.

  • You need a PayPal, that's the only way I can pay for these roles.

  • The final stretch

    We're finally reaching the very last hours of the casting call, and I am awestruck at the amount of submissions here. Almost 500??? The amount of times I've listened to "I don't have to read an Ultra Ultra Strong Boy Comic-" is astounding lol.

    Again, my shortlist is embarrassingly long at this point, but I've been eyeing 3 people who I'm fairly certain are getting the spots, they all have the exact range and delivery I'm looking for.

    There were SO MANY great submissions, like this was incredibly difficult to decide, so I do hope people are understanding if they don't get the spot. Gim has over 220 submissions alone, so you can see how picky I need to be lol.

    Will I be doing another one of these? If the project goes well, absolutely. Will it be equally as difficult to decide who gets the spots? Absolutely. Will the project actually have a name at that point? Abso-maybe. You can check out my YT channel for when I eventually upload these babies.

    Thanks again for participating in my very first casting call, I had no idea the reception would be THIS extreme, but I'm really glad you guys were interested enough to give these alien dum-dums a try with your wonderful vocal chords.

  • Another update and some clarification

    We're just about 2 weeks in with just about 2 weeks left, the reception to this project has continued to surprise me, and the positive messages attached to your submissions have been really nice to read.

    My long shortlist continues to be an oxymoron.

    I've gotten a few messages asking if the project will be child friendly, PG, if it'll contain swear words and whatnot, and if I had to categorize it, it'll likely aim towards PG13. "Damn", "Hell", "Crap", "Ass", and among those kind of words will likely appear in the scripts, so if you're opposed to that kind of language, then there you have it.

    Now, regarding the length of the project, the plan has always been "a couple shorts", ranging from around 30 seconds to 2-3 minutes. These STILL WON'T be "designed" as YouTube shorts, but they could probably still get cut up and uploaded as such, if I ever feel like it.

    I wish I could pay more than just 20 bucks for each role, but this is all out of pocket. If that ever changes however, as in if the project takes off well enough, I'll definitely pay a hella lot more than I do now lol.

  • Update and thanks

    4 days have barely gone by and you guys have already made over 100 submissions which is NUTS, it's gonna be hard as hell to pick just 3, even with my (contradictorily long) shortlist. I won't pick any roles before the deadline, as I wanna give enough people a chance to join in.

    Now some folks, even outside of CCC, have asked if there'll be more characters to voice in the future, and while we won't see those in awhile (I wanna get these shorts done first), I can safely say this won't be my last time using this website.

    I don't wanna beg for followers but it's admittedly the best way to get notified when I do eventually make another one.

    This is my very first time doing ANY type of casting call, so I'm really glad it's gone this well so far. Thanks for showing interest in my project :^J

Mona is a 30-something year old Pale with poor social skills who acts like a housecat, everything she says and does is 100% genuine, and she’s incredibly quick to anger, but almost adorably so, as her cartoonishly weak arms and worryingly light body weight makes her all bark and no bite.

Mona's the lead character and will have the most overall screentime.


Voice notes:

Mature female adult, naturally high-pitched, a little raspy. Think of Shelby Rabara’s voice performances, most notably Peridot from Steven Universe.

Gim (hard G, like gum) is a late-20s Blorc with 4 eyes and incredibly strong muscles who’s a lot more brawn than brains, he tries desperately to sound smart with long-winded sentences and dumb conclusions.

He also rocks a cursed golden skull, which serves as a nice conversation starter.


Voice notes:

Deep adult male, smirky delivery, with a hint of a dopey enunciation. Think similarly to Patrick Warburton’s voice performances, but not 1-1.

Maris is a 20-something year old Mermaid who specializes in mechanics and dons self-made mechanical legs, she’s the liveliest member of the crew and almost tries too hard to find the good in every situation.

She’s very fond of Mona, first as a fan and later as a friend.

Young adult female, high pitched voice, close to nasally. Think Kate Micucci’s voice performances, notably Webby from Ducktales 2017.
