The Clockwork King (3d Animated Fairytale)

Project Overview

The Clockwork King is an upcoming animated motion picture produced by Al Winter Pictures in pre-production coming in December 2018. A heartwarming family friendly animation about a brave girl, an ominous king, and a kingdom on the brink of revolution. Inspired by the heroic death of her parents and determined to make something of her life, Victoria struggles to balance her commitment to her ambitious partner and her dream of rising above the life society expects her to have. Everything changes however, when she has magical and unexpected run in with the nation's feared King. She must find the strength to fight for her own future, free her people, and save the king from himself before the curse strikes him down, or a violent revolution brings down both him and the monarchy! The expected release date is set currently by February, 2019.

Story:

The Clockwork King is a classic style family friendly animated film about a young woman, a natural leader, who must overcome her fears to save her people from a seemingly evil King, and a violent revolution. Our story surrounds our main character, Victoria, who was orphaned at a young age when her parents died in protest against the government. 

Working in the royal palace to support the ambitions of both her rebellious partner, and the orphanage that raised her, she puts most of her own dreams aside until an unlikely and magical situation brings her in contact with the feared King. Then of course there's our villain, Lord Bradford. He's a greedy noble determined to control the young king and his kingdom. He uses violence and strict curfews to keep the people in line, and blames it all on King Albert who was infamously nicknamed by the people, the Clockwork King. The king was cursed by the ancient spirits of the land for allowing the continued enslavement of his people by the greedy nobles. Until he frees them and gains their forgiveness, at every stroke of midnight, he will age until he dies. If he does, Bradford will no doubt rule the kingdom unchallenged. Through a series of surprising (and sometimes goofy) situations throughout their budding relationship, Victoria proves herself a more than formidable equal to the stubborn king, and exposes him to life beyond his luxurious but isolated palace. The king in return, breaks with thousands of years of tradition and shows her royal life and provides her opportunities to introduce new laws and change the way things are in the kingdom. She will have to find a way to free her people from servitude, and save a kingdom on the brink of revolution before time runs out!

Contrary to what the algorithm for the site says, we were able to listen to everyone's auditions and the finalists for each part have been messaged privately.     Hello Everyone! We've been going through your auditions, and you all did an excellent job! Because there are so many, we would like to make sure that we allocate enough time to review the finalist choices, especially on the bigger roles.   • Casting Announced This Friday!

    Hello everyone, thank you for your continued patience! Over the next few days, our casting team will be looking over all auditions and final decisions on casting will take place by Friday at 3:00pm EST. We will select the top 3 auditions and, if necessary, ask those actors for a few more lines. From there, we will make our final picks. We will require finalists to fill out a google form to get some basic information from you, which we will take into consideration when making our final decisions.

Victoria is a young woman who was orphaned at a young age but was cared for by the kind old woman Sylvia, who ran the local orphanage. Her father was a King’s guard and her mother was a prominent reformer, both of them died on the same night when a protest against the government turned violent. She was given, posthumously, a medal for courage for her father’s sacrifice; It was the only thing she owns to remind her of them. As an adult, Victoria works nights at the palace as a maid to earn money to provide for her and her fiancé and help support the orphanage. She has great amounts of intelligence and inner courage but struggles to let it show for fear that others in society will not accept her or take her seriously. Her relationship with the king allows these traits to be put on full display.

  • (Sadly*) You’re too young to understand, but people won’t listen to me.
    Regardless of what I have to offer, no one has ever taken me seriously. You wouldn’t understand but sometimes...

  • (Severely*) Battle? My lord, I and so many others, have been fighting a never ending battle against men like you, every single day of my life. And I will stay silent no longer. You don’t have to agree with me, but you will sit and listen.

  • I wish I could do more. I’ve never forgotten all the good you’ve done for me, and all the others that came up with me. I would never have landed the job at the palace without your help, even if it’s just doing the washing up.

King Albert is the ruling monarch and was made king at a young age after the premature death of his parents, his mother after childbirth and his father to disease. The Archduke convinced him that unless he projected strength and order over the population, chaos and havoc would envelope the kingdom. As a result, Albert imposed harsh and cruel laws regulating the lives of the people to keep them in servitude, and infamously became known as “The Clockwork King”. He allows his fear to control him, and while he is a very good person at heart, his inner inhibitions cause him to make terrible decisions and block out the people who love him best. Victoria helps to remedy this flaw as they fall in love.

  • I care for my people a great deal. My laws protect the kingdom from itself, and those who would try to harm her. I’m keeping them safe. You wouldn’t understand...

  • (Angry*) Quite the contrary, I think I understand more now than I ever have! I understand why the commoners never mixed with royalty! I understand why the people need to be suppressed, and I understand why I never left the palace!

The Archduke, Lord Bradford

The Archduke, Lord Bradford is the head of the nobility and the main villain. He profits the most from the people’s servitude, and uses the young king to maintain his power and wealth at any cost. He is suave, patient and calm, very rarely reacting with any great amount of anger. He calculates every move he makes very carefully and very seldom over reacts to anything.

  • (Pompously*) Then I don’t see a problem. The common people will be common, it’s what they do. And if they rise up, we put them down. Everyone has a role to play, and they must be allowed to play it.

  • (Suave*) You play your part, and keep the people in line, leave the king to me. So long as he is under our control, believe me when I tell you, we have nothing to fear.

Toby is a child who lives in the orphanage where Victoria works. (He and his dog Dash are added as child friendly characters, used to add comic relief). He is a cockney child who is often very sarcastic and bold to both children and adults alike.

  • Sorry boy, some of the brats in here claim to have an allergy. But between you and me, I’m gettin’ pretty allergic to certain people in here myself.

  • The king’s word indeed. I’ll be happy when your bum of a hubby knocks the madman off his gilded throne and locks him up for good.

Kazimir is a populist, Victoria’s fiancé, and the dynamic head of the underground movement that is seeking to overthrow the government. While he has lots of support, he relies on her to support him while he seeks out his own ambitions. Victoria feels duty bound to support him and share in his dream, as she also has ambitions to lead the people.

  • I know, I know. But change isn’t cheap is it, love? We all have to do our lot. And think of the impact that we have on the people. Hope, Victoria! That’s what its all about, right?

  • (Enthusiastically*) Our time for liberation has come! We are the many and they are the few, we must unite!

  • (Fearful*) What are you doing?! I’m bringing the crowd, like you said!

The Dowager Queen is the King’s grandmother, who still holds significant influence in the country. She hates the Archduke for twisting the mind of her grandson, and leading him on a stubborn path to self-destruction. She is a modernist and has a great sense of humor, often joking with the king and cheating at checkers when she has the chance.

  • Now you ought to stop that snootiness right now. King or not, the whole world thinks you’re mad. And between you and me, no Queen in Christendom would marry you right now. Beggars can’t be choosers, can they Johnson?

  • Ready the car Johnson! We’re headed to the orphanage, no time to spare! We may still have a chance!!!

  • Now listen here, and listen well because we haven’t got much time left. You are the master of your own destiny, and no person, man or woman, can determine what you do in your life.

Johnson is the private secretary to the King, and has served both him and the royal family loyally for years. His personality is often described as robotic, as he answers most questions with “yes, sir” or “yes, ma’am”, but comically frightens easily. These spurts of dynamic expressions of character serve as comic relief throughout the film.
