The Calaveras Cheat
Project Overview
I'm looking for a VA or two to fill a few parts in reading a short story I wrote a while back that I'd love to see turned into a short animation or just an audio-play type thing.
I will be adding more dialogue to the story since it's pretty narration heavy at the moment.
The amount of lines for characters will be very minimal, while the narrator will have the most.
Currently, I'm not sure what form this project will take when (or if) it's finished, but I think It will be fun regardless :)
The only requirement is that you have a decent mic with no background noise. Other than that, just have fun!
SHORT STORY SUMMARY:
A former fighting frog named Dan’l Webster is out to find a cheating gambler named Smiley and bring him to justice for his cruel actions in the past.
The story is a re-imagined version of Mark Twain's The Celebrated Jumping frog of Calaveras County in the style of a western revenge tale.
Read the full short story here - https://docs.google.com/document/d/16S3dEsqx0YVjzspGgzLNWfY3QKE_TIWVRw25R9D-6Z0/edit?usp=sharing
Those who are cast will be contacted via Casting Call and will deliver lines via email, google drive, discord, dropbox, etc.
Cast actors will be paid via PayPal or Venmo

Dan'l Webster is the heroic main character of the story. Horribly wronged in the past, he seeks revenge on those responsible. More than anything ,he wants to put an end to it once and for all.
He's also a frog. He doesn't need to sound like a frog necessarily, but if you want to try to work that in, go for it!
VOICE IS OPEN TO INTERPRETATION, but here are some pointers
- Western/ Southern Accent
- Medium to low tone of voice (could be higher if you think you can pull it off)
Examples
Sam Elliott - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aW8QnLYxY4

Russel Crowe - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpGbOaBMZQQ
Val Kilmer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1SINNWPZzs
(Addressing a shocked, but dangerous adversary right before a fight) (Cool and confident with an ominous undertone)
"The name's Dan'l Webster. I suppose you mightn't have heard of me. Well, you have now."
(Consoling a dying man) (Maintaining a strong and determined face, but deeply sympathetic)
"Shhh, lay still now. Just point me in the direction of the men who did this and I'll put an end to their cruel games.".
(Looking at the splattered corpse of his life-long enemy) (Satisfied, but with some pity in his voice)
"Cheaters never win."
The narrator should be clearly understood with good pacing for both the calmer and more action packed scenes.
Only go for a southern accent if you know you can pull it off!
Age isn't an issue as long as you sound mature and confident.
Any tone of voice is fine with me as long as it fits the feel of the story (tale of revenge in the wild west)

Smiley broke out in a sugar-coated sweat and hastily fumbled at his belt for his pea-shooter. Dan’l was ready. Six long years ready. He effortlessly unslung his double-reeded shotgun from over his shoulder, loaded with the cursed buckshot that had almost ended his life, and fired straight into Smiley’s overweight thorax, splattering him against the bar like a rotten tadpole egg against a river stone. Dan’l looked at the mess he’d made and said in a low ribbetty tone,”Cheaters never win”. With the job done, Dan’l hopped out of that cursed town feeling lighter than ever before.
Smiley might be slick with his words, but he's really just a gross and detestable individual.
Physically, he's an overweight fruit fly with a gambling addiction.
I'm open to any interpretation of that description! Have fun with it!
(Trying to sound ominous and threatening, but definitely feeling rattled)
"One step closer and I'll fill you full of lead... again."
(Finishing up a joke that only he thinks is funny)
*Chuckle* "...And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why you should never trust a slimy toad!"
