Cornelia, the titular Acorn Princess, is the main role of the film. Her determined and rebellious disposition has long been stamped out by the heavy expectations of her kingdom and, most of all, her overprotective father. As a result, she is often passive and vulnerable around the King, but is able to be herself around her best friend the Flower Prince. Cornelia has a secret plan to escape from her wedding with her friends the Flower Prince and Beetle. But, hopelessly infatuated by the Guard Captain Nutalia, her only regret is that she has yet to muster the courage to tell Nutalia her true feelings. Cornelia speaks with a soft, bashful voice, but is capable of a wide range of emotion. By the end, Cornelia has a tearful, dramatic “coming out” scene where she must confront her father and finally reveal the truth of why she can't go through with the wedding.

  • (Flustered, to Flower Prince) "How am I supposed to confess to Nutalia when she’s the coolest, strongest, prettiest guard captain in the entire kingdom, and I'm just... me..."

  • (Having just escaped, the three friends celebrate in mid-air. She rolls her eyes at Beetle) "Oh, your acting was horrible!"

  • (Injured, panicked, and pleading with her father, who is about to strike down the Beetle) "Father, wait! Please! You have to listen!"

The Flower Prince, or simply “Flower,” is a close and loyal friend of Cornelia. Dashing, nimble, and somewhat smug, Flower loves being the center of attention. At his core, though, he has a kind heart. In the beginning, Flower tries to encourage Cornelia to confess her romantic feelings to the guard captain. When Beetle crashes the wedding, Flower fearlessly challenges him to a duel. Quick on his feet and skilled with his sabre, Flower turns a perilous situation into an entertaining spectacle. Later, it’s revealed that it was all an elaborate ruse: Cornelia, Flower, and Beetle had staged the “kidnapping” so that they could all escape from the wedding! Beetle, as it turns out, is the Flower Prince’s big and loveable boyfriend. Flower speaks with a smooth, confident, princely voice.

  • (Reassuring and supportive, to Cornelia) "Oh Cornelia. You're a Princess! Sweep her off her feet!

  • (Confidently, to the guards, before turning to Beetle) "Get back! I'll handle this."

  • (Holding his cape like a bullfighting cloth, baiting Beetle) "Ha-ha! Toro, toro!"

With two sharp horns and big glowing eyes, the Beetle is a fearsome and elusive beast that has become a myth that parents use to scare their children into behaving. On the outside, he is a classic “villain,” who crashes through a window to kidnap the Acorn Princess. In truth, Beetle is a clumsy and gentle softy. For many years, Beetle and the Flower Prince have had an unlikely and illicit relationship. Cornelia, Flower, and Beetle have planned an apparent “kidnapping” so that the three misfits can escape with their freedom. Beetle speaks with a raspy, ferocious growl that contrasts with his love of pastries, naps, fuzzy animals, and the Flower Prince.

  • (A fun, but convincing evil laugh) "MUAHAHAHA! Your princess is mine!"

  • (He scoffs at the Flower Prince, who just challenged him to a duel) "A prince AND a princess? Don't mind if I do! BRING IT ON!"

  • (Having just escaped, Beetle is excited and relieved to stop acting like the bad guy) "YEAH, we made it! How'd we do, Princess?"

King Oak is the wise and beloved ruler of the Oak Kingdom. He adores his daughter Cornelia, and can hardly believe she has grown so quickly. For many years, the King had arranged Cornelia to marry the Flower Prince not just for the good of the kingdom, but because he knows they would form a strong and trusting couple. The King is as gentle as he is stern and unshakable. He is only ever vulnerable around his daughter, and tries desperately to protect her and prepare her for the future. He speaks with a deep and commanding voice and is able to shift quickly between acting jolly and acting forceful.

  • (Stern and harsh, but as he turns to the Flower Prince, his tone immediately becomes warm and jovial) "Cornelia! Show some respect to our esteemed guest! And soon, my son-in-law! Hohoho!"

  • (Shocked and enraged, to Beetle) "GUARDS! Seize him!"

  • (Filled with remorse and trying to comfort Cornelia) "My little acorn... I'm so sorry I didn't realize sooner..."
