In a flashback sequence. The mother of a main character watches in horror as her son is kidnapped by highway robbers while on a desert journey. There is some shouting and screaming for this role so please be sure your microphone is filtered and you are not peaking when screaming
[Screaming, horrified] “ZAYD! NO PLEASE NOT MY SON!”
(Zayd Pronounced like aid or grade)
[hysterical, sobbing] "No please take me instead!”
[pleading, desperate] “You cannot do this! His father is Haritha! He is from the Banu Kelb! He’s a free boy!"
(haritha pronounced ha-ri-tha with all short vowels. Banu pronounced be-new)
Haritha's son is kidnapped by desert highway robbers and he spends the next two decades looking for him. It turns out he was sold into slavery and he now wants to get his son back. Looking for someone who sounds upper middle age and weary with years of looking for his son
[hopeless, grieving, reciting poetry]
“I weep for Zayd, not knowing what became of him.
Is he alive? is he to be expected, or has Death come over him?
By God, I ask, yet do not comprehend.
Was it the plain? or the mountain that brought about your end?
I wish that I knew: Will you ever return?
In this world only for your coming back I yearn”
[slightly pleading, trying to hide his desperation ] “Muhammad, you are from the Banu Hashim clan. The people of the sanctuary. You are known for your generosity, your care of orphans, and taking upon yourself the needs of others. My son, Zayd was kidnapped years ago and taken as a slave. And I am willing to give you what you want for him. Ask your price, and I will pay for his freedom. Honor us with your generosity”
(pronounced hash-em)
Hakeem is a background character, an upbeat and positive merchant who buys a young slave for his aunt to use in his business. Looking for a "Saul Goodman" or "cave johnson" car salesman vibe
[Merchant, excited greeting] “Lady khadeeja!”
[khadeeja] “Hakeem! Welcome my nephew! Are you well?”
[Merchant, proudly] “ Very! I have purchased a slave for you!”
[khadeeja, unsure] “hmm. I see that. I.. I wanted you to hire someone, Hakeem”
[Merchant, proudly] “no need my lady. He was very cheap. I know you do not like slaves but this one is cheaper than a paid servant. He’s young, he has all his teeth. He’ll do just fine for your business”
