Project Overview

INTRODUCTION

Sonic X Redux is an uncut redub of the original Japanese version of the Sonic X Anime with a brand new cast, using the original Japanese OST and aiming to stay as true to the original Japanese Broadcast as possible!

PRODUCTION

The series will be released on our website in video format when they're finished. Each episode will be completely re-edited from the ground up, including the sound effects and Original OST from the Japanese version of the show.

AUDITIONING

Interested in trying out for a role? Great! Below you'll find the roles for the episode(s), each one will have an image, a brief description and some voice lines, naturally. For the actual project, we have a voice director on staff to help provide vocal direction for your performance. Roles that aren't in the listing currently (i.e Sonic The Hedgehog) are already casted to other voice talents. As far as the actual auditions go, I have a few general things that I'd like to say:

  • Provide at least two takes of every line in AA BB CC format, each take, try to use a different tone. 
  • Don't feel obligated to imitate any previous VA that has played said character that you're auditioning for, if you can do it really well then cool! Though it isn't mandatory. 
  • Clean, unedited audio! Don't add any filters/effects. I want to hear your voice unfiltered and unaltered, when it comes to the actual post production, it'll be left up to the post production staff to do your performance justice!

AUDITION RECCOMENDATIONS & GOALS

To elaborate on what we're looking for, we've added this section to help you if you're a little lost on what exactly we want out of your audition. 

When it comes to your voice, you should be able to somewhat match the Japanese performances in Sonic X. If you need to know what those sound like, you can reference clips on YouTube or you can go back and watch the subbed version of the show, available on Hulu.

 While getting close to the Japanese is important, what is more important is that your audition has good range. This is because Sonic X has a lot of powerful and emotional scenes that require said range. 

Play around with your voice and add improv if you think it will show more of what you can do! Most of all, you should be passionate about this project, because it is ambitious in nature.

    Hello everyone! Long time no see, This is Rascal. Co-Director & Sound Editor for Episodes on ReduX (also in charge of running this account). Wanted to give a big announcement, that yes, this project is still ONGOING & Not dead! What happened you may ask? We've had further complications behind our voice for Sonic leaving. and other users departing too. and with our main director being very busy. However, that doesn't stop me from keeping it alive. Shibou & I will continue to work on ReduX, and remaking Episode 1 with much better sound mixing & restored original sound effects provided by yours truly. The Voice Role for Sonic is still open and available for those who do wish to audition that are interested. An update video relating to it will be uploaded asap. Hope this clears up to those who were concerned about the project's future. Stay tuned for more updates to come!

Ever since stepping into the battle against iniquity, Sonic has been the champion of peace and is renowned all over the world for saving it countless times. During his many adventures, Sonic has traveled from the ends of the world to the far reaches of space and time, facing countless trials that have tested him to the fullest, earning him many titles, allies, and the scorns of several foes. Well-known for his legendary cocky attitude, easy-going demeanor, and somewhat short temper, yet strong sense of justice, compassion, and love for freedom and adventure, Sonic uses his abilities to protect the innocent from his world and those beyond from the forces of evil, especially his arch-nemesis, Dr. Eggman. 

For Voice direction we're going to be going for a voice that can match the performance of the japanese voice, Jun'ichi Kanemaru!

Mid-tone voice with good emotional range for powerful moments in the series.

While the doctor's plans initially consisted of building incredible armies by turning animals into robots and using them to dominate the land, Dr. Eggman's schemes have since branched into much more global threats as he built war machines, used nuclear devices to threaten entire nations, and even relied on mythological and ancient deities bent on destruction to achieve his goals. Eventually, the mad scientist has gone as far as to target the entire universe and cooked up schemes to control time and space itself.


While all these plans end in failure thanks to the continued efforts of Sonic and his friends, the mad doctor is somehow always able to slip away from certain death or imprisonment and escape at the last moment, making him a constant threat to the universe and a thorn in Sonic's side.

A gentle and sweet-natured soul, Tails was initially timid and lacked courage. After meeting Sonic, however, Tails has become more confident, eventually growing into a more outgoing, brave, independent individual and a hero in his own right. Since encountering Sonic, Tails has looked up to him and stood by his side, helping him whenever he can during their adventures.

For vocal reference, use the Japanese voice of Tails, Ryo Hirohashi to model your performance off of, any other references you use is completely up to you. We want to see your voice shine more than anything! 

With this rendition of the character we're looking for a voice that's a tad higher in tone, also, Tails is a character that's a little shy and immature so be sure to mirror that in your performance.

Knuckles The Echidna

A loner by nature, Knuckles is independent, headstrong and serious, yet gullible and short-tempered to a fault. He is entirely devoted to his duty, spending most of his time on Angel Island protecting the Master Emerald, and rarely cares for anything that is of no importance. When his friends and others are in need of his help, however, Knuckles can always be relied on being willing to leave his post and prove himself a faithful and good-hearted hero. He is also one of Sonic's oldest friends and rivals.

For vocal reference, use the Japanese voice of Knuckles, Nobutoshi Canna, as reference for your performance, which also experimenting with and trying out your own Slant and tones with the voice, any other references you use is completely up to you. We want to see your voice shine more than anything! 

For Vocal tone try going for that deep but rough sound to the voice, Knuckles is a serious yet short-tempered and mild mannered character so it's good to keep that in mind when auditioning and recording your lines.

Rouge The Bat

Rouge, is an enigma, as her motivations are always in question. In truth, she is usually just out for herself. She is smart, sassy, and seductive, and knows how to get what she wants. Once she has a target in mind, she always goes for it, regardless of the costs. Beneath her ditsy exterior though, she is a calculating realist and her motives are always mercenary in nature. Regardless, she is loyal to her closest friends and has more than once helped Sonic the Hedgehog and his allies save the world.

For vocal reference, use the Japanese voice of Rouge, Rumi Ochiai to model your performance off of, any other references you use is completely up to you. We want to see your voice shine more than anything!

With this rendition of the character we're looking for a voice that's mid-high tone and has the sound of a mature but seductive woman, also, Rouge is a character that's calculating, cunning, and sassy so be sure to mirror that in your performance.

The role itself is self-explanatory by the name, as extras you all help bring life to the background of a scene, when something needs a voice or a scream your job will mostly be to help give life to those aspects.

We're not looking for anything TOO SPECIFIC though I will say that you can go about this anyway you please, I just want to see an example of what you can do, your range, your slants, etc etc.

ANY GENDER can audition for this role, so male, female, etc.. you're also able to audition as any age so don't be afraid to do multiple kinds of extras in your audition audio, whether it's as an elderly individual or as a child. we want to see what you're made of!
