Sirenroot - Deluge of Deceit

Project Overview

Sirenroot - Deluge of Deceit is a non-commercial, fanmade video game modification project: A Skyrim quest about a hired team of divers, and how they become trapped within an underground Ayleid dungeon. The add-on will be free to download and play, for any user that can download custom assets, such as: Steam, Epic Games, GOG, Game Pass and XBOX users.

A signature magical plant emits a ‘siren’ like singing voice, which subconsciously manipulates the thoughts of those around them.

Aside from one, Ingun Black-Briar's hired team expects a simple paid collection job of alchemical ingredients. While in a cave, they all fall into a large, ruined temple. In the temple, the player attempts to gather the team and break the trance that the siren has over each person, revealing their pasts. As the player has multiple dialogue choices to control the story, the characters also have multiple responses with different possible outcomes of their fate.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

In order of most to least dialogue: Tilael > Cayrice > Peletius/Yineel.

Side character(s): The Assassin, Larelleis (1 conversation each)

Each lead character has:

  • an opening conversation with questions about them prior to the quest,

  • either a range of brief remarks to multiple medium length conversations throughout the dungeon,

  • a major section dedicated to them, with multiple choice routes to complete their portion

  • ending dialogue based on player choices and who has survived,

  • then post-quest conversations with more questions, based on choices

-----------------------------------------------------------------

As the setting is medieval fantasy, there is a decent amount of Elder Scrolls terminology that is spoken in the script which may be difficult for some. Example: (Ayleid - Ay-(letter A)-Lee-id) Most of the words are read as you'd expect, though. The overall feeling of English used in Skyrim is fairly modern sounding, using contractions and such.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

You can see the WORK IN PROGRESS, (~99%) colour-coded dialogue script for the entire project here: [Deluge of Deceit Dialogue Script]

Deadline Update March 7: The script above is no longer accurate, as I've begun to focus on individual character scripts.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

To those who audition:

  • Acknowledge the 'envisioned' voices for each character. Each one is a clickable link to a sample of a voice. It's just a suggestion, of course. I might like your approach better! Feel free to do multiple takes of inflection, accents, whatever you think is best. Peletius' VA suggested another accent, and I liked it.

  • Submit audio with as little background noise as possible. Some noise reduction/cleanup is fine, though I would like to coordinate later on and have the final product with consistency over all character lines.

For Selected Actors:

Payments start at a flat $40 USD through PayPal for the smallest roles, and increase based on line count.

As of April 14th, I have finished selecting actors.

I will likely do a couple test-runs to fine tune the direction.

For lead characters, I'll provide a portion of the payment upfront, then the rest upon completion.

(this will all be repeated and then tuned individually for the actor's needs, of course, and probably in a less serious way.)

Latest Updates

  • Payments added, new role!

Hello! Sirenroot is moving steadily on the development side.

Some of you may know that Sirenroot's script featured a handful of characters that are part of Skyrim's base game. With recent AI voice technology kind of spiraling out of hand, I decided to remove vanilla characters from the script. Without explicit permission from the original voice actors, personally, I would be uncomfortable using such tech. I know there's a lot of talent out there that would want to 'get their foot in the door' voice acting wise, so I would love to provide that opportunity.

Therefore, I have introduced one new character that takes Ingun Black-Briar's original place, and expanded those conversations.

The new character is Frissa/Frolf Black-Briar, Ingun's aunt/uncle. They have two medium sized conversations.

If you've auditioned for another character and are interested in this one as well, feel free to post another audition!

I've also updated the script for polish, as well as added line counts/USD payments for each role (subject to change? idk) I hope you have PayPal!

    Thank you again!

  • Script Completed, Deadline Extended!

    Hello!

First, I need to say how incredibly grateful I am for everyone who has auditioned so far.

The complete truth: I was quaking in fear pressing 'publish,' expecting 5 people, at the absolute most, auditioning for Sirenroot.

The day after posting, I had woken up to an email at about 4AM saying there were ~7 new auditions- and I bolted out of bed to listen.

Since then, I've checked CCC every couple of hours each day, and the moment I see a notification, I drop everything to listen.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you so much for your curiosity, interest, and especially time invested for all of this. Thank you.

As for Sirenroot & the Casting Call:

    • I moved the deadline over another ~1.5ish months. I may have overestimated myself haha

    • I added a rough wordcount to each role. The number is a bit higher than the actual word count.

    • Updated main description a little, added more info on the process for selected VAs at the bottom

    • Major major updates to the script (link in description!):

    • Tilael's main section was added!

    • Yineel's main section was added!

    • Yineel's 1st encounter was rewritten

    • Peletius' main section was finished

    • Small Tilael tutorial conversation added

    • Small changes to lots of lines for polish

    • Pre-boss & boss scenes polished, couple lines added

If you've auditioned already, don't worry about missing anything/feeling the need to audition again! I haven't changed anything surrounding that.

Anyway, progress is going steady implementation wise! I even had some friends test an early ~0.3 alpha, and they enjoyed what I had so far! (minus the bugs. i need to fix those.)

Thanks for all the love and attention!

Tilael

Paid: Flat Rate 155 USD
Role assigned to: Reaperesque

A Maormer woman who has no knowledge of her race’s history. An orphan in Bravil, she used her affinity with water to find her place and keep her grounded in the world. Casual, level-headed, a little sarcastic. She comes off as approachable and confident at the beginning of the quest, but immediately turns nervous and serious, relying on the player for advice and help. Near the end, she regains her confidence with new abilities and makes her own decisions.

Note: Tilael has the most lines in the mod, as she:

  • Has an extra intro 'force greet' conversation at the beginning of the quest

  • Stays near the player in the dungeon for a while, with multiple brief remarks

  • Has a mini puzzle section also dedicated to her

Envisioned Voice: Minor vocal fry, light, modern feeling: [Claire (Resident Evil 2: Remake)], [Vex (Skyrim)]

  • (Player asks "Why are you asking if I can swim?") (Casual, joking) Some kids ran by here hoping to make enough coin to snag a sweetroll. *scoffs.* I asked if they liked drowning.

  • (A couple lines after fully gaining conciousness, in mysterious area) Damn it. What.. where is everyone? (Player says, "I don’t know. You’re the first I found.") (Worried, slight outburst, then softens) What? How did we get separated? We weren’t /that/ far apart.. *sighs* (Focused, pulls herself together) She was clearly right about those ruins.. Okay. Let’s just find the other three and get out. What have you seen so far? Is it dangerous?

  • (After escaping a group of undead chasing her: Serious, shaken up, gasping for air) Hey! There’s no.. time- there’s a- a pack of undead right on my trail! This room looks the.. same as yours? What the hell do I do to get up there?! ... (Player asks, "What? What's going on?!" - Ashamed, but quickly) I.. tried to take some of those skeletons down- *gulps, breathes* a bad decision.

Role assigned to: celestielle

A Breton scholar and mage, mother to two children. Looking to expand her knowledge and share it with the world. Slow-to-anger, attentive, caring. She initially traveled to the province in hopes that her predictions were correct- that there would be Ayleid ruins to study. She is persistent but gentle in asking for time to study any artifacts or writings. While under a trance, she begins to believe that her children have passed a long time ago, and wishes to stay in the Ayleid ruins to study it as it’s ‘what they would have wanted.’ It's possible to upset her, should the player pry too much.

Fairly loose requirements with accent, American - European, even French is fine.

I’m looking for duality with a happier tone, to a serious, near-angry delivery.

She has a lot of Elder Scrolls terminology in her lines, some words have tricky pronunciation. Don't be afraid of sounding goofy, it's easy to correct. Some help for her 2nd line here: "Mah-la, Ah-ral, Leh-rell-eye, Nen, Magic-ah, (Letter A)-lee-id.'

Envisioned Voices: [Breton Females - (Oblivion)], [Wynne - (Dragon Age)][Lucien - (Skyrim)] (I’d like to point out his head voice transitions, I think they would be fitting.) These examples lean to an older voice, but I would not mind a younger sound.

  • (Player asks about her garments & gear, related to diving) Oh! It looks like a lot, doesn’t it? Don’t worry about me dear, I know a few tricks to keep all these books dry. Do let me know if you want me to cast the same spell on you.

  • (Player finds Cayrice for the first time in the ruins)(getting carried away with her interests) You’re here! I need someone to share with! Look, look- at this plaque here- key words, “Mala, Aral, Larelleis, Nen, Magicka,” Briefly, this details Ayleid royalty- a high one who watered the land with magicka for others to hear her song. Isn’t this fascinating? Dormant Ayleid magic!

  • (Player pushes too far, asking about her children while she is in a trance) (Tense, stern, gritting teeth, escalating, then quiet) I have spoken to you about this, prior. Please, stop pressing the matter. It’s.. sickening. Not another word.

Paid: Flat Rate 125 USD
Role assigned to: RyanSmithVO

An ex-mercenary Argonian man. Unable to commit to the violent work, he became both a muscle and an assistant for Ingun Black-Briar, with his extensive alchemical knowledge. He may not agree with her practices, but wishes to help her create potions that would benefit others. Quiet, professional, calm. Respectful, but also very 'no-nonsense.' There are a few times where the player can catch him off guard, making him stutter. While under the trance, he remains somewhat composed and is very solution-oriented, but becomes much more stubborn and assertive.

Not very picky over the accent here, anything fitting in the Elder Scrolls universe for an Argonian would work.

Envisioned Voice: Grumbly, soft but deep, a bit modern - [Male Argonians - (Skyrim)]

  • (Calm) I work for the Black-Briars. Mostly as a stand-in when Elgrim can’t help Ingun. Otherwise, protection. [Player asks: What about before working for them?] (Softly, slightly agitated) ..Mercenary work. Just not the kind of honourable work you might be thinking of.

  • (He finds the player through a gate after travelling alone for a moment.) *sighs* You’re alive as well. Good. We need to find a way to get everyone together. I’m- /we’re/ safer in numbers. (Player asks, "Didn't expect you to be afraid of the undead.") (Caught off guard, swiftly recovers) The.. undead..? *scoffs* I was more so worried about those two kids.

  • [Player is attempting to convince Yineel that there is not an assassin present, looking to attack him] (Assertive) Stop trying to tell me what I saw. I know that he's here. If you don't believe me, then just walk away. The only thing that will make me open this door is when I see him dead in the water.

Paid: Flat Rate 75 USD
Role assigned to: Thea Solone

Frissa/Frolf Black-Briar (name will adapt for chosen VA) is Ingun Black-Briar's aunt/uncle, who came to Riften to help her with alchemy and set up the main 'job' in the story. They have a 'posh' tone and expansive vocabulary, but unlike their irritable and 'high-and-mighty' sister: Maven Black-Briar, they aren't directly rude to the player, and attempt to be a bit more personable. They are also oddly comfortable with unsavoury alchemy experiments, similar to Ingun.

Pronunciation help: (Ingun - 'gun' is pronounced similarly to 'gin' in beginning / Maven - May-vinn)

Envisioned Voice: [Dorian/Vivienne (Dragon Age: Inquisition)] (38:17) The example leans toward an older voice, but I would not mind a younger sound.

  • (Surprised that someone has finally came into the store) Ah- hello! I assume you.. read the diving work notice, yes? [Player says: No, I haven’t seen a notice.] (Confused, pondering, trailing off) How odd.. We paid a courier to spread the word, and we did get a couple to sign with us within the first few hours, but afterwards.. (They hand the player the pamphlet.) Regardless, here. As I said, it’s diving work. Do take a look. Feel free to ask questions.

  • (smugly) I am Ingun’s aunt/uncle. I’m not particularly close to Maven, but I heard that we have a little alchemical prodigy here- runs in the family. Thought I’d visit and oversee her progress.

The Assassin appears during Yineel's main section in the quest.

I'm not particularily picky about his voice at all. My first idea was a Dark Elf, as they are commonly associated with the Morag Tong.
