Project: ESCAPE

Project: ESCAPE

Project Overview

Project: ESCAPE (prototype name) is a puzzle/adventure game, blending together puzzle gameplay with a rich narrative via more typical visual novel elements in the vein of games such as 999 or Virtue's Last Reward.

The prototype focuses on two colourful characters--Kevin and Alice, both of whom wake up with cloudy heads and a pair of handcuffs binding them together within a strange prison cell. Will they be able to solve the strange puzzles that lie in wait for them and escape this foreboding room? And just what awaits them on the other side of that metal door? Somehow...they have the feeling that their strange adventures have only just begun.

---

Hi there, thanks for checking this audition page out! This is an open casting call, in search of one voice actor and one voice actress to fill the role of the two characters listed below.

To give you an idea as to what might be in store--this is a small, contained prototype featuring the two main characters attempting to puzzle their ways out of a strange prison cell. Essentially serving as a test game for mechanics I want to expand on in a more involved title with these characters (and more) down the line! This is pretty much a personal project of mine that I've been working on for fun alongside commercial commitments, so I want to give it the love it deserves with full graphics and voice if possible, to really help the prototype shine in its presentation.

The majority of lines will be focused on interactions between Kevin and Alice, and their musings over the various puzzles spread out before them.

Auditions will be held from October 6th to October 17th.

From there, depending on the volume of submissions, a day or two will be set aside to go over the auditions sent in and determine who will be cast.

In the event of there being an insufficient amount of auditions for any given role, or somebody is unable to take the role after being cast, the audition deadline may be extended a further week or two depending on the situation.

Please take the following into account when submitting an audition:

  • Have a clear microphone. (No background noise, fuzziness, etc.)

  • I ask that all those who may audition are at least 18 years of age

  • This is a paid job, ensuring $100 for each character.

  • This is intended to be a prototype demo with a limited scope, so as such, it'll be released for free and no money will be made off of it on my side. I'm making this purely for the fun of it.

  • In terms of content that will be expected to be voiced, this game will be essentially an 'all-ages' visual novel, with the extent of things being very minor cursing. (Crap, damn, hell, etc.)

  • Audition lines have been split into two parts per line: the actual line to be recorded, and the vocal direction to accompany it, to give an idea as to the emotion and intent behind the line. Needless to say, the 'DIRECTION' part of the audition line doesn't need to be recorded.

If you have any questions regarding anything here, about the characters, or the project itself, please feel free to get in touch via a comment or PM.

Thank you for your time and I'm looking forward to hearing your auditions!

Latest Updates

  • Project: Escape prototype is live!

Hiya there, I just wanted to inform everyone who may be following the project still and might be curious that I've now officially uploaded it! 2020 has been rough to say the least, so there was a lot of setbacks in development while I juggled other commitments, but I stuck with it and am satisfied with the results! You can find the game here: https://frostworks.itch.io/project-escape-prototype And hopefully in the near future I'll be expanding the game and creating new roles!
  • Cast Announcement

Heya everyone, This is long overdue, but I just wanted to update everyone on the status of the roles if they were potentially curious. Those cast are: Alice: Anairis Quinones Kevin: Griffin Puatu I avoided finalising the cast list for so long just in case I needed to recast before all the lines were done, but it's looking like everything has gone smoothly, so I'm confident enough to post them now! I'll be updating with the final prototype in the near future too for anyone curious as to how it might turn out! Please look forward to it! Thanks again for the overwhelming interest in the project--both on here, and offsite. It was incredibly tough to narrow things down, and I'm really excited to potentially come back in the future with additional roles if I ever extend the project beyond its prototype. (Also I apologise if there's been tons of notifications regarding the project--but I'm kind of fumbling my way around this site. ;~;)
  • Whoops! A small error

I just wanted to also say I may have goofed up on closing the project--as I intended to only close off auditions, which had the unintended side effect of listing the roles as cast offsite. This isn't the case and nobody has been cast yet--I'll try to rectify this so it's more accurate. I only wanted to close off submissions, ahhhh! My deepest apologies--nothing has been confirmed yet, so don't fret!
  • Auditions are now over!

Hiya there! As of today, the casting call for Project: Escape has now hit its deadline, and auditions will be closing. (If they're not automatically; I'm new to CCC and unsure if further action is required from my side to close off submissions, haha) First of all--I want to thank you all for the AMAZING response to the casting call! I never imagined my small little prototype would garner such an overwhelming amount of auditions, and am truly humbled that you've all taken the time to audition! I only wish I had more roles at this present time, since I know it's gonna be really tough to narrow things down. Due to the large amount of submissions, it may take me a few days to go over everything sent my way before coming to any concrete decisions on the roles. In addition, since there's so many auditions, unfortunately I won't be able to give any individual feedback to anyone that requested it--as it would be too daunting for me to manage, I feel. So I apologise for that. Additionally, for the sake of transparency--and some of you may have already seen it--but I did hold auditions off-site at the same time as this casting call was being ran--meaning in addition to the large amount of auditions here, I have quite a large amount offsite, too. So things will take just that little bit extra for me to go through--and I apologise in advance if I take a few days before making any solid deliberations. Needless to say, I know I'll have my work cut out for me! There's a crazy amount of talent out there and now begins the toughest part! Thanks again everyone for the amazing response!

A very...odd girl, to put it politely. Deadpan in her mannerisms and speech, she doesn't appear to exhibit much in the way of emotion, yet will say and do some very strange things if left to her own devices--clearly lacking in the self-awareness department.

She meets her imprisoned fate with staggering indifference, simply plodding along and doing the puzzles expected of her as if this was just another ordinary day.

While generally stoic, there's sometimes a hint of sass in her otherwise whispery words.

  • "Now then. Allow us to assess the situation at hand. It would seem, from a cursory glance...that we are locked in this room; imprisoned, if you will. And shackled to a pipe at that, further hindering our mobility... Quite the predicament if you ask me..."

(DIRECTIONS: Observing the room while sounding fairly smart and analytical--though she really is just stating the obvious.)

  • "...Ah. That was a joke. A bit of humour in an attempt to lighten the mood in the face of our newfound freedom. Do I perhaps need to brush up on my comedic skills?"

(DIRECTIONS: As one of her 'jokes' falls flat, she picks up on Kevin's none-too-amused face and feels the need to explain she was joking, convinced she needs to try harder in the future.)

  •  "Kevin... It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. You may call me whatever you wish--though 'Alice' is preferable, given it is my actual name and all."

(DIRECTIONS: Giving her name out in the most roundabout way possible.)

While typically friendly--if not a little shy--Kevin is prone to emotional outbursts if stressed out enough. He has a tendency to freak out first and then begin assessing the situation with a more level head, seemingly possessing a keen eye for these bizarre sorts of puzzles plaguing the facility.

As expected of a male protagonist, he can be a touch naive at times and a little too trustworthy of others when he really shouldn't.

In stark contrast to Alice, Kevin is of course completely bewildered as to his imprisonment in this strange game and is determined to find a way out. He frequently finds himself getting frustrated at Alice's indifferent nature and questioning why she isn't taking this as seriously as she should.

  • "O-of course I am! How could I NOT?! In case you haven't noticed, we're chained up to a freaking PIPE and locked away in a creepy cell! In fact--how can YOU be so calm?! Nothing about this is normal!"

(DIRECTIONS: Upon being told by Alice that he's causing quite the scene, he only freaks out further, then directing his frustration on her for not being more freaked out too, clearly suspicious of her.)

  • "H-hey, whoa--what are you doing?! That thing's filthy! Y-you can't just go plunging arm deep into it, you'll catch some kind of disease!"

(DIRECTIONS: Bewildered as he snags Alice by the hood, preventing her from ramming her arm down a toilet to search for a key. It's almost as if he can't believe he's having to explain something this obvious to the strange girl.)

  • "'Ah! I've got it! The dance steps...correspond to the buttons on the safe! So '7 left' means... We push the left button until it becomes 7. And then we hit the right button until it wraps back around 3, and..."

(DIRECTIONS: This line is part of a series of hints he'll give during a particular puzzle the player has to solve, as he begins to explain his logic and reasoning behind things, showcasing his more methodical side that can surface under pressure--a far cry from his usual panicked/nervous nature.)
