Project Overview



  1. //Story//

    Pretty Purrgatory is a short story about the recently deceased- more specifically, those who are stuck in the afterlife (for whatever reason), and how they go about reaching eternal rest. The series follows Meownica, a catgirl (they’re all cats, and also magical) as she sets out to clean her slate and make peace with whatever is keeping her from the bliss of ether. Her guide through the afterlife is called Nyakura, a catgirl who doesn’t seem keen on passing on. Together they get up to some antics typical of those stuck between a rock and a hard place. Cat-fights & naps alike ensue!


    //Series Details//

    As of now, I'm only looking to cast for the first 6 episodes. There’s 12 planned episodes, each will be split up into three 10 minute parts, so the full series be roughly 6 hours in length. Episodes will be released as we finish them, which will be one at a time- the three parts will be chunked and released separate from one another to put content out fast and allow quicker development. This is covered more in the background section!


    //Background//

    This concept has been floating around for awhile and I figured it was about time to do something with it! I’ve never produced something on this scale before so it will definitely be a learning experience, but I’m confident that this will be completed. 

    That being said, there's something I wanna clear up: This is a joke series. For practice and laughs! I only really care about making some key things look nice (opening, ending, transformation sequences, etc) and the rest will be typical youtube fanime fashion. This is so releasing episodes will take less time, which is the goal! A nice, short, funny, quirky series made to be binged.



    //Guidelines & Tips//




    • I’m looking for expressive, funny people who are comfortable joking about their role! This is not a serious series (for the most part) and it should be a fun experience!


    • A nice mic is good, but not mandatory! I’m honestly looking more at people I vibe with than technically impressive performances (putting forth effort is still important though!)


    • The characters all have their own flair (or rather, a character trope they make fun of), so I’m looking for distinct voices that match their trope! 


    • If you have any cat puns, include them with your submission :3c I will treasure them furever


    • Good improv skills are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!







  3. Roles will be cast whenever I feel like someone fits it. If you're interested in working with me, I’m very grateful! Most of the development will be done over discord so having one is the only solid requirement for participation in this project.

  • Call for Background Artists! + Final Character Call

    Howdy! We've made the decision to open up the final (for now) castings- for background artists! Also there's a new character casting for interested VAs (under Delgato), but he's not as important. If you're interested in either roles (or know anyone that would be), there's more information on the roles! (and please, feel free to share the casting call!) The addition of these recent characters to the call means that instead of casting for just episodes 1-6, its now 1-12! So in order to reflect this, the title of the casting call has been updated to just Season 1.   • !!HUGE UPDATE!! Role Overhaul + Additions!

    Hello everyone! As production continues, we're both learning new things, and so Serenity & I have decided to bring more people on board. Two more slots are opening up for Composers, as there are a lot of themes to be made, and we feel a variation of style would be best for the OST. Secondly, we're changing the role of Opening Singer to general character theme singer, because the opening is going to be sung by Adri (Meownica's VA). Thank you to everyone who has auditioned! We hope you are still interested in the project despite what might be considered a downgrade in relevancy. Thirdly, we are now accepting auditions for animators. The new style may be difficult to get the hang of, but Serenity & I have been drawing tutorials for anyone who is interested in coming on board to follow, and he will be able to coach people more personally through DMs. Finally, some character casting calls have been updated. Random Crying Child has been renamed Pawlie (thanks Logan!) and the previously closed Random D-Man role has been reopened and given more details (now that she is an actual character.) There might be another casting update for one final character, but we are still debating about how to handle him. We apologize for being slow with responding to auditions. Everyone's responses will come, thank you for being so patient. Expect an overhaul of assets on the casting call soon, the style change will catch up with this page eventually.   • I've stepped down as producer!

    Hey everyone! I apologize for not doing this earlier, but some issues have come up and I’ve just been extremely busy dousing fires as they come! And there’s been a LOT lately. To keep this brief, I’m stepping down as producer since I don’t have the time or energy to lift this project to its full potential anymore. There’s too much getting in the way and I’d hate to throw away this concept (even boxing it for later would leave a bad taste in my mouth, given now that there’s a cast involved) so it’s getting passed like a slightly grubby baton! A few of my accounts with the project info on them (including this casting call) are going to be rolling over to his care soon so if you notice any changes, that’s why! The new producer is someone I really deeply trust and who I know will honor what the project always was supposed to be- We’ve talked about this transfer for the past month or so and finally decided now was an appropriate time to announce the flip. I’ll still be on board as a reference(/director) but they’ll be the one running the show from now on! She's rather shy though so until work starts up again I'll still be in charge. Thank you again everyone for your patience! Hopefully with this change the project will make some real progress soon :3

Meownica is the main protagonist, whose goal is to ascend to the ether (which is like, double dying). In order to do this, she has to right whatever wrong she did in life, despite not remembering what it was. She's curious, quiet, and laid back- but very easy to stress out. 

Her voice I imagine as being fairly normal, at least compared to the others. By normal, I guess I mean... steady? Short? Tentative? The most like someone who just died & woke up in a body they don't recognize. She's the type that goes 'huh' when looking at /picturesthatmakeyougohuh

  • (Confused) “So basically, we just tend to a glorified garden, right? Like, thats just our job now and forever?”

  • (Thoughtful) “I guess you’re right… It still doesn’t make sense to me, though. We get cut, but dont bleed. We never sleep, but don’t get tired either. I suppose it just comes with the territory, and I’m gonna have to get used to it.”

  • (Relaxed) “You know, I think this is fine. The sun is warm, the plants smell lovely, and the water here is sparkling. I don’t think I ever want to leave.”

Nyakura is Meownica’s guide, and has acted as a guide to many others before her. She’s rather mysterious and quick to dodge hard questions, very Cheshire-like. She’s friendly, bubbly, and can read people well. 

Joke voices are preferred for her! Shes the poster character, get as obnoxious with it as you want! Just not super horrible to listen to, since she probably has the most dialogue out of anyone! :3 


  • (Bubbly) “I know you purrobably have questions, and I know I have answers! But we’re gonna have to pawse that train of thought and go check something out!!”

  • (Whining) “Aww, whats wrong? Cats got your tongue? You were so curious earlier Meownica! I thought it would be more satisfying to show mew exactly what were doing here!”

  • (Calmer) “Mew know, this is kinda like a second chance! Sure, you weren’t good enough to make it your first time around, but its ok! We all make mistakes, you need to find out where you messed up and take steps to make it right!”

Clawdia is a troubled girl who just wants to die, but is very strict and will ascend her way or no way. Bittered from previous experiences, she's quick to lash out if she identifies anyone as a possible threat. She's ruthless, judgmental, and always ready to start a fight.

Her voice I cant really imagine, except that her tone is really cold as shes the resident edgy character. Definitely cries listening to MCR, if that means anything to you LOLOL

Edit: I am SO SORRY that was really vague! Looking at her more she's tired, stressed, and sad. She doesn't raise her voice unless she feels super threatened, and she's not dramatic at all, like imagine she's a kicked puppy! And because of that she's sharp and edgy but really, really wishes she wasn't. She's a sad girl!!!

  • (Furious, on guard) “How dare you! This is my prowl,  just go! Leave me alone!”

  • (Frustrated, tired) “That’s so typical… you always take and take and trash us when you’re done.”

  • (With an Edge, more fed up than condescending tho) “Only the good get to leave here, you know? It’ll be hard for someone like you to clean the slate.”

Emileo was one of Nyakura's charges, who decided to take on disciples of his own when their partnership dissolved. He's an all around good guy, dependable and hardworking. He's confident, level-headed, but kind of dopey! Its endearing

I cant help but imagine his voice as deep and kind? he's the leader-type, so i guess thats to be expected! Though, at the same time, he's definitely the type to make really horrible dad jokes, and unironically post minion memes to facebook. He's just really cool with himself and also kinda oblivious!

  • (Pleasantly Surprised) “Well well well, look what the cat dragged in! Cat being me, and you being what. How’s the prowl been treatin’ ya?”

  • (Soft) “You know… I think I’ve done all I could. Its been a long time, but I’ve learned and grown from who i was when I died. Now… I’m just really, really tired, and am gonna go take a catnap.”

Jennifur is Emileo's charge, and goes on prowls with him consistently. She loves taking care of the garden, even though it wont do anything for her salvation. She's very kind, tries to be funny, and makes the best of bad situations. 

Her voice I imagine as being rough, but still sweet, kinda like rock candy? If that makes any sense! She's most definitely the 'mom' character of the group, despite being second youngest!

Nekole is an androgynous catboy who absolutely hates working. His death was apparently very traumatic, and while he jokes about it, nobody else dares to. He's very vain, lazy, loves to be pampered, and can generally be found as the companion to a wealthy family.

His voice I imagine as dramatic, confident, and probably has a little flip or flounce- honeyed words? Probably cause of his hair color, lol! He's petty and overly expressive, tends to drag out his words cause he likes listening to his own voice

  • (Flippant) “Hah? You’re here already? Go on, reap him, it’s about time that geezer kicked the bucket.”

  • (Sassy) “Well, fresh meat, we don’t all care about that shit. Personally, I’d rather spend my lives here and wilt away into nothingness- I didn’t die for this.”

Delgato is kind of a prick, and definitely knows it. He doesn't have many relationships despite being around longer than most because he can't change. Clawdia is the only one close to him and they have a pretty rocky relationship as it is. 

His voice should be low and kind of shady, because he is, though probably not too gravely.

Kit-Cat is a minor character who acts as Clawdia's impulse control. She is sympathetic, but stern. She used to be quite the prankster, but has sadly outgrown that due to a tragic accident.

Having an actual British person would be absolutely wonderful, because both writers are from Texas so we have no idea what kind of slang y'all use and would like to not make fools of ourselves (although we will definitely do that, because we're going to  over-saturate her speech to make sure theres no doubt shes British). Thanks!
