About the Project

Website: https://orbitalstrikevr.com/

In the universe of Orbital Strike VR, Human/AI complement pairs operate out of independent fleet carriers on research and exploration missions. At the start of the game, our playable character, The Pilot and their human carrier controller, The Sophron, are ambushed outside of the Epsilon Indi system while responding to a distress call. They link up with another moth-balled carrier, the Pacifist, and together, the three of them must work together to push back against the enemy that has invaded humanity’s systems.

Story Background

The enemy is a mimetic virus first encountered in the Deneb system. They subvert human and AI systems where they can and turn them against those they cannot. Not much is known of their origins, only that they infect systems that were connected to the original FTL gate network. They were originally stopped only after the Deneb system was destroyed by stellar nova and the FTL network was decommissioned. At the start of the game, it has been quiet on the front for several years but all eyes remain on the corridors to Deneb.

Paid: 5 USD per line

Lines: 80, $400 budget.

Gender: Female

Background: A rare AI carrier controller. They are alone, without their human pair. Their memory is spotty, systems and module libraries are gone in what appears to be an abortive decommissioning. While they may appear confused and oblivious to situations unfolding around them, they genuinely want to help in any way they can. Without their human pair, they seem to have forgotten their personality but as they interact with the Pilot and the Sophron throughout the campaign, they will regularly switch between different personality tones as they try them out.

  • [Bubbly and friendly] “An Unreliable Pacifist! Operating as Strategic Reserve Asset, deployed to deep-sleep overwatch for the…[confused pause]...Epsilon Indi system!”

After being introduced to the pilot

  • [Cold, analytical] “Pilot, we've retrieved the necessary resources for corvette production that The Sophron specified. Please return.”

  • [Ecstatic, slightly insane] “Crucibles...pilot encryption. Last-one-standing protocols. So many convenient vulnerabilities.”

Lines: 80, $400 budget.

Gender: Male and Female (player choice)

Background: The playable character is a Fleet pilot, a fusion of skydiver and fighter ace. As a fleet pilot, they provide reconnaissance, direct action, and fire support terminal control for their home carrier. At the start of the game, they are working with their human counterpart, friend, and carrier controller, The Sophron.

  • “Nothing.... Sophie... Half my core is gone. What the hell hit us?”

    - Sophron and pilot escaping from their destroyed carrier. Sophron just asked the pilot what they could remember.

  • “[distressed, concerned] Sophie! Beacons armed!”

  • “[Relieved] That would be the Sophron. They made it out.”
