Hemlock

Hemlock

Project Overview

Hey everyone! We are Elsewhere Again, a brand new indie studio obsessed with character-driven stories, and we are beyond hyped to introduce our debut project: Hemlock!

Right now, we are putting all our blood, sweat, and tears into an animatic pilot teaser. This is our ultimate proof of concept! Since we are purely indie and just getting this off the ground, we are currently only paying a flat $20 for the teaser recording. BUT, if we knock this out of the park and expand into a full season, you will absolutely be brought on as the official, permanent voice for the character!

Casting Call
We do not care about how long your resume is or who your agent is. We care about raw, undeniable performance! If you have the talent, we want you. New voices and newcomers are heavily encouraged to step up and apply!

The Vibe
Grounded, highly emotional, and deeply human. We are diving into some slightly heavy themes, but we promise to balance that weight with real intimacy, genuine laughs, and warmth.

The World
Los Angeles, 1985.

Welcome to a retrofuturist LA, a solarpunk utopia running on cassette-futurist/retrofuturistic technology, shaped from the ground up by the Office of Public Accountability.
Clean, orderly, optimistic on the surface. The question is what holds it all together.

Latest Updates

  • Update: WOAH! 80+ Auditions, Thank You!!!

    Hey everyone!

Just dropping in for a quick update, but mostly just to say thank you. We just crossed 80 auditions, which is kind of wild to say out loud! We can hear the genuine effort you're putting into these reads. Seeing people take the time to truly understand the characters instead of just reading lines means a lot to us.

Right now, we are going through everything and making sure we give each submission the attention it deserves. If you asked for feedback, we haven't forgotten! It might take us a little time, but we are doing our best to respond where we can because we want to actually engage with you, not just listen and move on.

To help with the process, we've updated the website with a full audition packet that provides clearer direction on tone and characters. We are also working on reference tracks to give you a concrete idea of what we're aiming for.

If you want to re-audition after looking through the new packet, please do! That is completely okay.

On a personal note, thank you for being so patient with us. Everyone on our team is juggling this project with work, school, and life, so we aren't always moving as fast as we'd like. Our next big step is getting our social media running so we can share more behind-the-scenes updates with you.

Hemlock matters to us, and so does doing right by the people who are showing up to support it this early. More updates coming soon!

  • 10 Followers?! THANK YOU

    Hey everyone,

Quick little update and a sincere thank you.

We just hit 10 followers, and for something this early and brand new, that genuinely means a lot. Elsewhere Again and Hemlock are still in the very beginning stages, so seeing any amount of interest already is honestly encouraging.

Right now we are still shaping the casting process, refining character direction, and getting everything ready for the next phase of development.

A big thank you as well to everyone who has already submitted auditions. I have started listening through them, and I really appreciate the effort and creativity people are bringing in this early stage. It really does make a difference.

Going forward, we will be updating the project listing, rolling out our website, refining actor notes, and starting to be more active on our social media accounts. Lots of fun things ahead, and we are excited to start sharing more of the process as it unfolds!

If you are just finding this project now, welcome. There is more to come soon.

Thank you again for being here at the start of this.

Register: Mid to slightly higher. Natural, conversational, emotionally open. Director's Note: Nervous, fast-talking energy with an incredibly warm underlying tone. He never sounds cynical. He sounds like he is trying to catch his breath. Sincerity is the key. He feels everything, even when trying not to show it.

Ex-lover, Reluctant Ally.
The Vibe: The competent cynic. Smartest person in the room. Dry wit as a shield. Highly capable, slightly bored, secretly fiercely loyal.

Traits: Analytical, Avoidant, Courageous, Guarded. Vocal References: Susan Egan (Megara), Elizabeth Banks (Wyldstyle), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach).

Register: Mid to slightly lower. Nothing overly stylized. Effortless, like she is not trying to impress anyone.

Director's Note: Read this deadpan, almost like you are annoyed you have to explain it. Let the voice sit in the back of your throat. Effortless confidence and razor-sharp sarcasm, but with hidden warmth underneath. She does not need to raise her voice to take control of a moment.

Editor-in-chief.

The Vibe: The chaotic mentor. Oscillates between profound wisdom and complete absurdity, believing both with equal passion.

Register: Warm, expressive, lightly theatrical. Mid range with playful lift. Unpredictable pitch tied to wildly shifting emotions.

Director's Note: Play this like a theater director who has had way too much coffee. Big, erratic passion. Completely oblivious to normal social cues, but somehow the wisest person in the room. Take big swings with pacing. When he gets serious, it is not heavy. It is calm and reassuring, like he is gently reminding you that things are going to be okay.

Supporting | Male | Late 40s
Veteran journalist. Reluctant mentor.

The Vibe: The silver-tongued charmer and reluctant leader. Dripping with charisma, a little smug, but deeply exhausted by how much he actually cares.

Traits: Experienced, Wry, Compromised, Distant. Vocal References: George Clooney (Danny Ocean), Joel McHale (Jeff Winger), Sam Rockwell (Mr. Wolf).

Register:
Mid to lower. Relaxed, grounded, slightly gravelly in an effortless way. Authority comes from experience, not effort.

Director's Note: Lean into smooth, leading-man swagger, but put a cynical, tired edge on it. Talk like you have all the answers and you are doing everyone a favor by sharing them. When he shows care, it is subtle and almost accidental, like it slips out before he can stop it.
