James "Smitty" Schmitt

Supporting | Male | Late 40s
Veteran journalist. Reluctant mentor.

The Vibe: The silver-tongued charmer and reluctant leader. Dripping with charisma, a little smug, but deeply exhausted by how much he actually cares.

Traits: Experienced, Wry, Compromised, Distant. Vocal References: George Clooney (Danny Ocean), Joel McHale (Jeff Winger), Sam Rockwell (Mr. Wolf).

Register: Mid to lower. Relaxed, grounded, slightly gravelly in an effortless way. Authority comes from experience, not effort.

Director's Note: Lean into smooth, leading-man swagger, but put a cynical, tired edge on it. Talk like you have all the answers and you are doing everyone a favor by sharing them. When he shows care, it is subtle and almost accidental, like it slips out before he can stop it.
