Dragon's Heir: The Animated Series (ROUND 1)

Project Overview

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the first casting call for Dragon's Heir: The Animated Series! The show originally appeared on Scratch, and produced around 4 episodes and a pilot. After the sudden success, the series has now found a permanent home on YouTube! We are looking for voice actors who can bring life to these new characters. We are also looking for crew members, specifically for background art, animation, music composition, and more!

What to Expect

Dragon's Heir relies on volunteer or hobbyist work. Expect lenient deadlines, but you will have to accept critique and align with those deadlines. As a team of hobbyists, we work on this on our own time. We still want to release content on a regular basis, though, which means soft deadlines are implemented.

Voice Actors will have a broad deadline to turn in their voice files. They can send them through Discord, Google Drive, or by e-mail.

Requirements to Audition

Our team primarily uses Discord to communicate and share their progress. That means you must be 13 years or older to audition. Since this a hobbyist production, it will deviate from the traditional schedule of a TV series. Before you audition, consider if you want to commit to this project. It will be difficult to recast characters if someone drops out, especially if they leave in the middle of production.

Voice Acting Guidelines

  • The casting call closes on February 10th. All submissions after this will not be counted.
  • Please limit the amount of background noise in your audition. No fans, talking, or other noise that distracts from your voice.
  • Please record multiple takes. This can help us assess your talent.
  • You might be cast in multiple roles, or might be casted as a background character.
  • All accents are welcome.
  • If you have a Discord account, please attach your username. If we cast you, then we can add you to the crew Discord server.

Other Information

  • If you are interested in becoming a crew member (animator, background artist, music composer, etc.), please fill out this Google Form here: https://forms.gle/8rLTgkVAY9F27BGn7 We are also looking for 3D artists and compositors to finalize shots!
  • You can also join our fan Discord here! https://discord.gg/yxrHGgYaGT Applications are also accepted through there.
  • In the lines "By Ismira!" Ismira is pronounced "IS-meera" or "Is-MEER-uh". This is the deity/goddess figure in the series, similar to saying "Oh my God!" or "Sweet Jesus!".
  • Understudies will also be casted, in case of a voice actor leaving the project.

Role assigned to: Aubrey Lima

Millie is a Felis, or cat person that appears in EP6 and onward. She is clever and enthusiastic. She is reckless, often jumping head first into danger. Her philosophy? Cause trouble, ask questions later.
Millie's voice is feminine, medium to high-ish pitch (but not too high pitched). She sounds youthful and pleasant, but can easily adapt a more serious tone. Her voice is slightly raspy as well.

Voice Example: Radical Edward from Cowboy Bebop.

  • [Millie introduces herself.]

"Millie Krogstad, the one and only!" (enthusiastic, exaggerated)

  • [Millie comments about the bounty placed on her.]

(nonchalant, mischievous) "Y'know, I'm worth one hundred scales. ONE HUNDRED! Just for stealing some pieces of bread. (muttering) The nerve of some people."

  • [Millie sees a dragon.]

"By Ismira, a real dragon! I have never seen one up close!" (in awe, excited)

Role assigned to: Bels

Gil is a Water-Skipper, or a fish-person. She is the leader of the Sea Division, an underwater civilization. She is uptight and opinionated. She appears in Episode 5 and onward.

Her voice is medium-pitched, with a strong, aged tone. She speaks with reason, and tries not reveal too much through her voice. She can easily drop this façade when upset.

Voice Example: Jasper from Steven Universe.

  • [Gil decides that political corruption is the way to go.]

"Begone with our rules! We must change, to fight off future threats." (Strong, stern)

  • [Gil senses something. She tells her people to get their weapons ready.]

"There is a disturbance. I can feel it. Ready your weapons!" (Orderly, strained)

  • [Gil wants her turn to speak. She says this very rudely.]

"I will not wait any longer for you to keep talking." (Angry, stern)

Role assigned to: Phonobabble

Ezra is a Verok, or a bird humanoid. He is charismatic and sarcastic. He is the leader of the Forest Division, and he wears that with pride. He feels entitled to respect and special treatment, so he constantly requests things from his diplomats. Due to his short stature, Ezra relies on chairs (or the shoulders of other diplomats) to see and deliver orders.

He has a light, mischievous-sounding masculine voice. He speaks condescendingly, often irritating the other diplomats.

Feel free to experiment with any accents for him!

  • [Ezra agrees with another Division Leader. He wants to support their efforts by supplying military.]

"We're no longer enemies. We're allies! I volunteer my Division to the cause." (Convinced, helpful)

  • [A Draconian is a human with dragon-like features. Ezra isn't surprised that he saw one, but everyone else is scared of them. Is Ezra hiding something?]

"My my, a Draconian! What a surprise." (feigning surprise, unpleasant)

  • [Ezra hears the news that another diplomat was injured. He doesn't have much sympathy.]

"What horrible news! I cannot believe it!" (exaggerated shock)

Role assigned to: Jake

The Mediator is a Kahri, or bird humanoid. They are in charge of regulating meetings and relieving scuffles between diplomats. They are calm and orderly.

They speak in a professional, lower pitched voice. Their gender is never specified, so feel free to experiment with more masculine or feminine pitches. They very rarely lose their cool. When they need to raise their voice, it's quite a shock!

Any accents are welcome for this character.

  • [The Mediator asks a Division Leader about their so-called "interruption".]

"What was this… interruption, your honor?" (speculative, curious)

  • [The Mediator gets pissed.]

"Silence, all of you!" (angry, loud)

  • [The Mediator introduces the Division Leaders for their meeting.]

"Every solstice, we come together to put aside our differences. We are no longer separate territories, but rather one united body. May Ismira bless our leaders, Burnem, Sasha, Ezra and Gil, giving them guidance and perseverance during our meeting." (calm, professional)

Role assigned to: imshadow007

Freya is a human that appears in flashbacks. She is married to The Hooded Figure, a Draconian. She is cautious and considerate.

She speaks in a medium to lower-pitched feminine voice. She has a motherly tone, almost like she dotes on the other characters. She can raise her voice to be stern. She tends to keep to herself, so her voice may sound a little quiet or reserved.

Voice Example: Valka from How to Train Your Dragon.

  • [Freya is asked about her mysterious past. I wonder!]

“There was some… history. I’d prefer to not talk about it." (Dignified, secretive)

  • [Freya wants to wait out the storm, since she can't travel.]

"Can we stay here, until the storm passes?" (hopeful, urgent)

  • [Freya decides to reference a popular quote from Cowboy Bebop.]

"Whatever happens, happens." (Solemn, yet optimistic)
