Batman: Shadows Over Gotham | A Fan-Made Audio Drama

Project Overview

Previously, Audio Anomaly has created the Marvel Audio Drama Universe-- a reimagining of the Marvel universe, inspired by all its different mediums, carried by multiple writers, directors, and actors, to create a long-running series of interconnected stories, reinterpreting heroes and villains in new and exciting ways.

Now, we're looking to capture lightning in a bottle a second time, and kick off the DC Audio Drama Universe-- the DCADU! This project-- Batman: Shadows Over Gotham-- will be our first installment.

Shadows Over Gotham is a horror-themed neo-noir audio drama, which sees Batman starting to feel like he's made a difference. It's been nearly four years since he began his war on crime, and he's had more than his share of victories. But when the villain Firefly gets broken out of Arkham Asylum, and starts ranting cryptically about a dark and terrible secret at the heart of Gotham City-- the Dark Knight must reckon with some dark truths about place he calls home.

The roles of Batman and Harleen Quinzel have already been cast, but as you'll see, there are many, many characters on offer here-- several of whom we plan to spin out into starring roles in audio dramas of their own! If you check out our back catalogue with all our Marvel stuff, you'll see how serious we are about that kind of thing.

This is a new universe, a new interpretation, so not everything will be exactly as you expect. Keep an open mind!

This universe will also skew a bit more dark and mature than is possible in the comics or the mainstream films. More adult language and violence, more mature topics. Think an HBO special sort of thing. Nothing too crazy explicit, but things will get dark and twisty on occasion.

Not too many requirements, save for the following:

1. Decent audio. Little to no background noise or reverb.

2. Discord is a must. This is a massive undertaking, and we'll be involving you in multiple projects going forward, as long as you're willing! Discord's our main method of communication, so. If you don't have an account, please be prepared to get one!

3. 18+ please!

4 Don't slate your auditions, please! If you slate, you'll likely be disqualified.

Good luck, and have fun!

Latest Updates

  • Casting Process Update!

Thank you again for all your wonderful auditions, everyone.

I'm currently dealing with a family member in hospice, while also staring down the barrel of my first week of college. It's... a lot. So, the casting process might move a little slowly.

The call is closing on Monday. I'm expecting the final decisions will be made by Friday, or the weekend at the absolute latest. So please don't fret if it seems like there's a bit of a holding pattern-- the project is firing on all cylinders, I just have to space stuff out so I can take care of my personal business.

Thank you all so much. I'm looking forward to working with you, and so is the rest of the team. This is one piece of a much larger project, and it's got us all very excited for the future.

Talk soon. Best of luck to all of you!

  • Deadline extension!

Thank you everyone for your incredible auditions thus far! It's been a joy to see so many amazing voice actors come through.

We've elected to extend the deadline by a couple of weeks, just to allow more time for some of the other roles to pull in more auditions, as well as to accommodate some folks who've expressed an interest but are away from the booth at the moment.

Not sure if we'll be doing another extension in the future, but if we do, you'll hear it here first!

    Thank you all once again!

Role assigned to: Star Lee

A seemingly omniscient figure, both spectator and commentator to the events that unfold in the story. Her identity is such a big reveal that I'd rather not go into any detail about it here. Suffice it to say that she's many things-- kind, whimsical, compassionate-- but also mysterious, unknowable-- and dangerous.

Our narrator has a particular interest in Bruce Wayne. She's been watching him for a long time now-- though he has no idea of her existence. Not yet, anyway.

Imagine someone able to switch on a dime from friendly and carefree, to contemptuous, spiteful-- even vengeful, when faced with the dark horrors of Gotham. This lady's seen it all, and then some. She has a big heart, and she loves life-- but she's the last woman you'd ever want to anger.

  • The lightning cuts through the dark like a carbon steel blade, if only for a second-- just long enough for them to see their buddy all strung up with wires, hanging from the ceiling several feet above their heads.

  • One year since his transfer, and Jim Corrigan still isn't used to Gotham City. The feel of the air against his skin-- like the cold hands of a jilted ex after a long time away. It brings up too many things he'd rather forget. It's always loud, too, always moving, always in flux. Forever straining under its own weight. Like a dark, impossible monument, built in tribute to the worst aspects of humanity. If he knew the truth of this town-- it just might drive him mad. Or it might save him. Who can say? That's a joke, see, because I'm me. Seriously, it was hilarious, you should be laughing hysterically right about now. But don't worry-- I won't take it personally!

  • Rain falls over Gotham. It's a fairly regular occurrence, these days. Ace Chemicals has been pumping ungodly things into the air for years now, and it's slowly but surely given Gotham its own personal climate crisis. A year ago, there was a biologist-- Doctor Isley. Real eco-warrior type of gal. Noble. Maybe a few screws shy of an Ikea set, but-- let's just say she was passionate. She started a campaign to have the plant shut down, but. Well. Lots of powerful people with an interest in that plant. Things didn't go well for her. But that's a story for another night.

The main villain of the piece. A pyromaniac committed to Arkham Asylum, before being broken out by a mysterious ninja operative and set loose upon Gotham. While he's always been enthralled by the destructive power of fire, recently he's become a fanatic, ranting about the need to "save" Gotham from some unimaginably dangerous force of darkness, through the power of his "purifying" flame.

He's manic, obsessive. But not cruel. This interpretation of Firefly sees himself as almost a prophet and a savior. Think of a screaming preacher in a suit of high-tech armor, proselytizing about the wonders of flame and the dangers facing Gotham.

One of the few people who know that Bruce Wayne is Batman, Lucius serves as the head of the technology division of Wayne Enterprises. Not only is he instrumental in building and maintaining the Batman's arsenal, he also supervises Bruce's Gotham Knights program for gifted and at-risk youth.

He's a technical genius with a heart of gold. Never afraid to tell Bruce when he believes he's making an error, always ready to give him the unvarnished truth-- but also ready at all times to go above and beyond to make the impossible into reality.

A genius hacker and engineer in his own right, Tim Drake is a great kid. It's just that he struggles with rules and boundaries, especially when he sees them as getting in the way of making people's lives better. Currently on probation for some vigilante hacktivism, Bruce Wayne has taken him under his wing as part of the Gotham Knights program, where he's made a real project out of giving Lucius and the rest of the engineers a real run for their money. He and Stephanie are smitten with each other almost immediately.

Tim is young, quick witted, fast-talking, and a bit of a rebel at times. But he's also incredibly kind and supportive to those who need it.

Bruce often leans on his insights for matters pertaining to the Gotham City council.

Lonnie is brash, arrogant, and perceived by many as "radical", but he's got a heart of gold underneath it all, and wants the people of Gotham to be happy, healthy, and safe-- even if his preferred way of getting there might involve a guillotine or two.

Virgil is a genius when it comes to electrical engineering, as well as city planning. His family has recently relocated to Gotham, and he's jumped at the chance to be a part of Bruce Wayne's Gotham Knights program.

Still dealing with unresolved trauma from his mother's death due to gang violence, Virgil nonetheless puts on a brave face for the sake of others. He's determined to learn and grow, and one day return to North Dakota to make it a better place for all.

Virgil's a young man of strong morals, but not above having a bit of fun. Sometimes he doubts himself more than he should-- but even though he has trouble always recognizing his own gifts, he's always quick to talk others up and be as supportive as he can.

Jim's constantly working to maintain leverage over the corrupt Commissioner Loeb, so that he and his informal group can continue to work without interference-- but it's a dangerous game.

Gordon's a former marine. An expert marksman and hand-to-hand combatant, even as the years start to weigh on him. He's also a top-tier detective. Gordon's a pragmatist first and foremost. While he's been slow to embrace the idea of working with a vigilante, the Batman has proved himself as an earnest and noble ally of justice, even his methods are... questionable at times. Knowing how broken the system he works within has become-- if it truly was ever anything else-- Gordon sees Batman as a necessary compromise. The laughing man himself. In our reimagined universe, Joker has developed a cult following in the wake of his initial reign of terror on Gotham. Though he's presently locked away in Arkham Asylum, his toxic influence over Gotham's people is not only still felt, it grows. Especially among young people. He's sort of like an infinitely deadlier, more psychotic version of Andrew Tate, stuffed into a garish purple suit, wielding chemical weapons and a tommy gun.

He's charismatic, bombastic, and extremely dangerous. Everything he says should carry the idea that he knows far more than he's letting on. Like he's the only one in on the joke-- and he knows that anyone else who figures it out will lose their minds-- if he doesn't kill them first.

Very open to interpretation with this one! I know Mark Hamill is the gold standard, but feel free to draw on other versions, or go for something entirely new, if you'd like! Very excited to see what people come up with for our Mistah J!
