Baten Kaitos - Episodes 3 & 4 (Seeking Supporting & Additional Cast) - [CLOSED]

Project Overview

Hi there! I'm Chara, and I'm the director of an on-going fandub of the Gamecube JRPG title, Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean.

With Episode 1 finished and Episode 2 fully recorded and currently being edited, I'm now looking for a variety of voices to portray upcoming characters that will be appearing in Episodes 3 and 4.

Note:

Aside from 2 supporting characters who appear in Episode 3 and 4, some of these characters will have fewer lines, and will be listed as one-shot performances where only the audition takes will be needed for the final product, unless redos are otherwise needed. These will be marked with an asterisk (One-Shot)*

Requirements

  • Please provide at least 2-3 takes
  • Acting ability (No whisper-shouting, please!)
  • Dedication - If you are cast (especially if you are a recurring character who appears multiple times) please try to be dedicated and plan to stay with the project.
  • Please have clean, reasonably decent audio quality (keep your auditions as free of background, equipment noise, reverb, and plosives as you can)
  • Have fun! Some of these listed characters have never had official voices, and for the ones that do, I'm not looking for an exact imitation of the voice, but for your own personal interpretation that would best fit the character. Have at it!
  • Feel free to audition for as many characters as you'd like.

What Comes Next?

  • Having a discord is encouraged, but not mandatory. If cast, scripts and updates will primarily be given over email or the CCC chatroom.
  • I am very passionate about this project and want to see these episodes through, but please know that editing episodes take time.
  • I do my best to release episode parts in a timely manner, but it is not unusual for me to release episodes every few months or so, depending on my schedule. If you can handle that, I am thankful for your patience and look forward to working with you!
Pronunciation List
  • Gibari [Gi-BAR-ree] Gi rhymes with "key", Geh is also acceptable
  • Lyude [Lee-Yood]
  • Ladekahn [LA-de-Kahn]
  • Reblys [REB-bliss]
  • Sadal Suud [Suh-DOLL-Sood]
  • Nashira [Nuh-SHEER-rah]
  • Pherkad [FUR-kad]
  • Elnath [Elle-NATH]
  • Diadem [Die-uh-dem]
  • Sheliak [SHEEL-lee-ack]

Latest Updates

  • Auditions are closed!

Hi everyone, it is currently April 1st, 3:44 PM PST, and auditions are officially closed! Thank you all once again for auditioning! I will be making casting decisions over the course of this week, and it may take me up to a week or more due to my current schedule. Thank you very much for your patience!
  • Thank you for 100+ auditions!! (+ Deadline Extension)

Thank you all for your incredible auditions, everyone. I’ve never received 100+ auditions on a project before, that’s simply crazy to me, and I am honored! Previously, this casting call was set to close tomorrow evening, but I want to bring some attention to these characters who have either received few or no auditions: ✦ Small Child (F) ✦ Adoring Child (F) ✦ Excited Girl (F) ✦ Rustah (M/F) ✦ Elderly Bar Patron (F) ✦ Young Fisherman (M) ✦ Helpful Fisherman (M) ✦ Aggravated Fisherman (M) ✦ Worried Warehouse Worker (M) Because of this, I'd like to extend auditions for at least a week to allow for more auditions for these characters, and to also allow time for feedback and possible resubmissions. Thank you all again for your interest in this project!

Age 29

CHARACTERISTICS: Warm, charismatic, at ease, outgoing, a bit of a flirt, strong-willed, firm when making a stand
VOICE RANGE: MID LOW - MID - MID HIGH

Recurring character, appears in episodes 3 and 4. The relaxed and charming barkeep of the Moondragon Lyre, a popular pub in Nashira. Anna had been taught to run the bar from the young age of 9, and eventually inherited it from her parents. Generally warm and easygoing, Anna is very skilled at conversation and small talk. Despite her relaxed demeanor, Anna can be incredibly stubborn and strong-willed, and will not hesitate to put her foot down if someone gets too unruly or is stirring up trouble.

Harbors a longtime secret crush on Gibari, and enjoys teasing him. Unluckily for her, he's a bit dense in the romance department.

  • Hi there. Well, well. You two are new around here, aren’t you? (introducing herself) I’m Anna, owner of this humble establishment. Did you come in on the liner today? (greeting travelers, warm, relaxed, conversational)

Cut it out, Reblys. Leave the travelers alone. (good-naturedly, she's friends with him, trying to ease the tension)

  • (playfully, teasing) Anyway, if you’re going with Gibari, please take care of him. He’s such a stupid, rough, and thoughtless man.

  • (stern, protective) Hey, you! Why are you yelling at a little kid?! Hey! Let go of her! You’re hurting her!

Even if you kill me, you Imperials will never take the hearts and minds of our people. Get it? (defiant, unafraid, challenging an Imperial Soldier)

Age 34

CHARACTERISTICS: Tough, headstrong, bit of a jerk, blunt, in-charge, gruff, refuses to lose to Gibari, ever
VOICE RANGE: LOW - MID LOW - MID

Recurring character, appears in episodes 3 and 4. The tough-looking, uncompromising and unfriendly (at least to outsiders) head fisherman of Nashira, a lively fishing village on the continent of Diadem. Where Reblys is traditional and holds great respect for Nashira's customs, his frenemy Gibari ignores these customs and breaks them as it suits him, preferring to forge his own way. Reblys views this behavior as selfish and defiant, and frequently butts heads with Gibari due to their opposing outlooks.

Reblys isn't a bad dude, but his stubborn adherence to old rules can make him come off rigid and cold (Especially when said customs involve not helping strangers in any shape or form for superstitious reasons). In truth, Reblys only has his nation's best interests in mind, and will assist the party once he realizes their intentions are to help, especially when they put themselves at risk to rescue his Majesty, King Ladekahn of Diadem.

Despite Reblys' initial loathing of Gibari, he gradually develops a friendlier rivalry with him. This doesn't stop him from trying to best Gibari though, in shows of strengths as well as attempts to win Anna's heart.

  • The name’s Reblys. You could say I’m the head fisherman in this village. You’re outta luck, kids. No one here takes strangers on their boats. (blunt, unfriendly, putting on a “tough guy” act)

Humph. Leave them alone? These are hard times, Anna. The last thing we need is strangers scaring away the fish. Ferrying strangers goes against our village rules. (Protesting, after he'd been told to leave the travelers alone)

(with utter loathing) Gibari, that lug… he ignores those rules. He’s just a big pain in the neck!

  • (angry, shouting) Gibari!

You think the whole world revolves around you? Always doing your own thing, your own way… Why don’t you ever think about the villagers, and what’s important to them? As long as you get what you want, nothing else matters, is that it? (yelling in one last ditch effort to get a rise out of him)

  • (guilty, regretful) Sorry, Gibari… I’m sorry this happened on my watch…

Anna is the only one who knows about the secret path that leads outside the village. Please go and find Anna, Gibari. (feeling guilty for not taking charge when things took a turn for the worst)

Imperial Soldiers #1-3

CHARACTERISTICS: Intimidating, Terse, Sharp, Gruff

Appears in Episode 4. Various Imperial Soldiers who invade the continent of Diadem, on behalf of orders from Emperor Geldoblame of Alfard. Soldier #1 has six lines. Soldier #2 has three lines, and Soldier #3 has seven lines.

All three are menacing bullies meant to intimidate, but #3 threatens to harm Anna, causing the main characters to quickly intervene. I'm looking for actors who aren't afraid to shout and let loose.

Any accent for these soldiers will do, the more varied the better. Will cast multiple actors for this role.

  • Soldier #1: (addressing the main cast) You’re all villagers, right? (barking, commanding) Get back to the village on the double!

(commanding) No one is allowed to enter or leave these premises. Just do as you’re told, and things will go fine.

  • Solder #2: (threatening villagers who wander outside village parameters) You see my newest weapon? It kills in less than a second. So get back inside the village!

  • Soldier #3: (trying to intimidate Anna) You wench! If we weren’t under orders to keep hands off civilians, I’d make short work of you!

(promising, threatening) You’ll have a different way of seeing things soon enough. You’ll regret you ever said that!

  • (when asked about Lyude, proudly, pretending he knows what he’s talking about) Yup. He’s pretty important, ya know? An Ambassador from the Empire. Awesome, huh?

(vouching for Lyude) The ambassador isn’t scary! Seriously, talk to him and you’ll see he’s a nice man.

  • (suspiciously, overhearing a conversation the main characters are having) Huh? You outlaws, or somethin’? Bein’ chased by the Empire?

  • (peering at Xelha) Hmmm… Well, the girl behind ya doesn’t look like a bad person at all… (directed at Kalas, a bit suspicious, then nonchalant) Don’t know about you, though. See ya!

  • (defensively, defending Lyude) Grandpa! What are you saying?! Sir Lyude is a great person! You say bad things about him just because he’s from the Empire.

  • (exasperatedly, fed up with adults in general) *sighs* They’re all the same.

(apologetically, to Kalas) Oh, sorry for making you watch this silly drama. There are a lot of people in my grandpa’s generation who think badly of the Empire. That’s why he’s saying the ambassador to the Empire, Sir Lyude, is a spy.
