GryphonAresVA for Reblys
Age 34
CHARACTERISTICS: Tough, headstrong, bit of a jerk, blunt, in-charge, gruff, refuses to lose to Gibari, ever
VOICE RANGE: LOW - MID LOW - MID
Recurring character, appears in episodes 3 and 4. The tough-looking, uncompromising and unfriendly (at least to outsiders) head fisherman of Nashira, a lively fishing village on the continent of Diadem. Where Reblys is traditional and holds great respect for Nashira's customs, his frenemy Gibari ignores these customs and breaks them as it suits him, preferring to forge his own way. Reblys views this behavior as selfish and defiant, and frequently butts heads with Gibari due to their opposing outlooks.
Reblys isn't a bad dude, but his stubborn adherence to old rules can make him come off rigid and cold (Especially when said customs involve not helping strangers in any shape or form for superstitious reasons). In truth, Reblys only has his nation's best interests in mind, and will assist the party once he realizes their intentions are to help, especially when they put themselves at risk to rescue his Majesty, King Ladekahn of Diadem.
Despite Reblys' initial loathing of Gibari, he gradually develops a friendlier rivalry with him. This doesn't stop him from trying to best Gibari though, in shows of strengths as well as attempts to win Anna's heart.
The name’s Reblys. You could say I’m the head fisherman in this village. You’re outta luck, kids. No one here takes strangers on their boats. (blunt, unfriendly, putting on a “tough guy” act)
Humph. Leave them alone? These are hard times, Anna. The last thing we need is strangers scaring away the fish. Ferrying strangers goes against our village rules. (Protesting, after he'd been told to leave the travelers alone)
(with utter loathing) Gibari, that lug… he ignores those rules. He’s just a big pain in the neck!
(angry, shouting) Gibari!
You think the whole world revolves around you? Always doing your own thing, your own way… Why don’t you ever think about the villagers, and what’s important to them? As long as you get what you want, nothing else matters, is that it? (yelling in one last ditch effort to get a rise out of him)
(guilty, regretful) Sorry, Gibari… I’m sorry this happened on my watch…
Anna is the only one who knows about the secret path that leads outside the village. Please go and find Anna, Gibari. (feeling guilty for not taking charge when things took a turn for the worst)
Hey Gryphon! I do like the voice you picked for this character, you've really got a knack for the subtle, but I do think he sounds a bit mellow considering his motivations. Particularly for Line 1, Reblys is purposely putting on an unfriendly, tough-guy act to discourage two outsiders and convince them to leave, and I'd like you to be a bit more outwardly unwelcoming and intimidating. I did love how natural, conversational, and familiar you sounded when you're addressing Anna, though! Very nice character choice! I liked how you read Line 2 when you're yelling at Gibari, but I'd like it if you could be a little angrier, especially for that first shout when you're calling his name. The guy just turned his back on you and you're incredibly frustrated and badly want him to consider how his actions affect others - but the only way you know how to get that across is by yelling at him, so keep that in mind if you decide to re-audition. I loved the hesitation you had in that last line, and I think it could be even stronger if it was a bit more guilty and subdued, especially in that first sentence, and this can be achieved if you go vocally downwards instead of upwards with "I'm sorry this happened on my watch..." Overall, nicely done!!
Hmm!!! Thank you very much for the feedback! I'll give it another go, see what comes out, in a day or so, and see if I can't find the marks you're looking for!
Much appreciated Gryphon! Take your time, I look forward to it!
