Project Overview
Howdy! You, yes you! Are you looking to make a bit of pocket money, and have some fun?
I welcome you to Backwards Thinking!
A few warnings:
- Coarse language. These are young adults after all.
- Mentions of crime. Just in this first pilot, but it will evolve to actual crime later on. (I promise it's not as bad as it sounds.)
- Unspoken mentions of a terminal illness. One of the leads is actively dying. It doesn't stop her from living the way she wants, but it's a thing.
I am as close to amateur as you can get, I only uploaded this PITCH (linked below) to a production company, not the pilot script. I have no previous experience to speak for my skills.
Payments will vary between roles - I am looking for a complete team. If you get accepted, you'll be sent a link to the Discord.
Lead VAs are $7(USD) per line. The other jobs, I don't know yet. We'll talk about it, and contract it out.
Payments will be done through Paypal.
When a pilot is ready, it will be uploaded to my YouTube channel, and everyone will be credited exactly as they like.
I cannot wait - this has been a dream for the last 6 years or so, and I'm finally ready to make the move to make it real.

Cal is a happy-go-lucky, headstrong young woman, who lives by the phrase "God hasn't killed me yet, and I'm making it everyone else's problem!" I'm looking for someone that embodies a fighting spirit with just a hint of carelessness... and no braincells.
[Causally] Oh, my stepmother’s third husband's cousin had a brother who used to work for NASA, who was then fired for stealing office supplies due to his unchecked kleptomania. Anyway, he lent me this because I told him I was experimenting.
[Snootily, but joking] We, in the science industry, like to call it a “whizzy dizzy spinny”.
Spite and bone, mostly. Though my dreams of a fiery death do keep the motor running!
Hans is a depressed retail worker, overshadowed by his little brother who is a police officer and his father who is a doctor. Regardless of his mental health, he fights every day and is steadfast and loyal to his friends. If you have experience working with "Karens" or depression, you're already qualified for this role.
[Tiredly] Guys, big news… I've decided to become a lawyer.
[Anger] YOU CAN'T JUST PUT MUSTARD AND MAYO ON BOLOGNA AT THE SAME TIME, THAT'S A CRIME AGAINST NATURE!!
[Matter-of-factly] Why not, it’ll just cost more to repair it… I’ll get Seth Rogen.
Aunt May is the only one with a brain cell, she's been alive for longer than anyone would believe and owns the home that the group lives in. She tries to keep the life in the lungs of her family. If you have younger siblings, you can relate to Aunt May's plight - I hope. You need to bring an air of motherly love to the role, as that's what she is to this motley crew.
[Concerned] First off… This isn’t going to work, Cal… and secondly… WHERE DID YOU GET ONE OF THESE?!
[Disappointed, with increasing desperation] Cal… you cannot reverse your body's aging by spinning at high speeds in reverse. That's not how… Time and life work!!
Ah. Young love.
AJ is the most unhinged of the group - if he wasn't on a leash, he'd probably burn down a building... by complete accident. As it is, it's a wonder how he hasn't just perished. To this role, you should bring an ability to flip on a dime, and have too much fun doing things that most people would be concerned with.
Well, when in doubt… give up on your dreams and become a lawyer.
Nate, bro. Chill for like… two seconds. You’re good at this. It's not the first time you’ve had a breakdown and lost your mind writing, it won’t be the last. You told me to remind you of this when you felt like breaking your keyboard. The struggle is the creative process. You need to live, learn, struggle, fall and at least try. Every time you fail to get it right is another chance to strike later.
[Smugly] Glad to hear it… because it's your turn to do the dishes and this was my way of calming you down so that your rage doesn’t boil the water with your hands in it. You’re welcome.
Nate Dean is a goth music maker, with a creative spirit and an overhanging sense of existential dread when it comes to deadlines. He has ADHD and an affinity for the occult. People in this role should be able to express strength and intelligence, with more smarts than everyone, except Aunt May.
[Distraught] Let me die in peace, AJ. The agency wants at least 7 songs for the debut album, 3 of them released as singles. This song is meant to be partway done already for them, the due date is tonight and I haven't even got a line written.
Speaking of your records, your police record got even longer. They came after hearing that a centrifuge- (abrupt cut-off)
(abrupt cut back in) Whatever- Point is, they knew that it was the same one NASA had reported as stolen recently and was seen on our street. Then they saw the property damage.[distraught] I AM A FRAUD OF A MUSICIAN. I AM NEVER WRITING ANY MUSIC EVER AGAIN. APOLLO HAD PASSED THE GIFT TO ME AND I FUMBLED IN THE ENDGAME. THERE'S NOTHING THAT I’LL EVER BE GOOD AT HERE. THE GIFT OF MUSIC IS AS SWEET AS CAKE AND JUST AS FALSE.
A cold, stoic man who takes pride in his work. He focuses solely on his job and doesn't think much of his family - Hans and Iris. In this role, you have to turn off emotions and get the job done. That's what Aster would do.
I feel like I say this every time I review her - but she's sustained no lasting injuries and is simply suffering another concussion.
And that deluded dream is why you keep ending up in this wing of the hospital, Ms Lister.
Captian Todd Lister is a sensible, no-nonsense chief of police... and Cal's father. He loves her but gets increasingly exasperated with her stunts. If you're a father, you would understand exactly what he's feeling. Tap into it.
