Witchpunk Series Description (3 Seasons)
The climate ain’t what it used to be and neither is the future. Betrayed and hunted by rogue corporations and religious ideologues across storm- and militia-haunted, crumbling 22nd Century America (where street witches wield quantum technology on the floating markets of Manhattan and the rich flee Earth for the new orbitals), the bickering crew of the semi-legit landship, the Strega, must stop the mysterious Foucault Engine from activating: at stake is not just their own lives, but a fight for who controls the future. Witchpunk is a gritty cyberpunk epic told in three seasons of six episodes each.
Season 2 (6 episodes)
The crew reluctantly work for Iraklis as he claims both to be able to fix Alice and to have information on Devereaux. This involves them in his wider schemes while they at the same time try to work out who Iraklis is. In season one the crew were mostly reacting to events; now in season two they seek to actively take control. This path will take them from a cyber heist in Salt Lake City, via facility infiltration in Orlando during a heat bomb, to the Gaiaista encampment in Kansas as they prepare to go under Storm Mother…
(Storm Mother is a key part of the Season 2 plot and is mentioned in several role descriptions. Think of her as a vast witchy permanent storm slowly grinding Kansas to dust. The Gaiaistas are sort of neo-pagan-hippies who follow Storm Mother around and worship her as Gaia. Long term proximity to Storm Mother has strange mental effects on people, including hallucinations and a death wish desire to go under her)
Auditioning
We are looking for grounded, naturalistic performances. If you’ve listened to season one, you know the style we want. We are looking for VA’s who can embody a physical presence in their performance suitable for the scene location. Your character may be talking in a noisy vehicle or desperately running for cover while talking and shooting. The tone of the show is serious but some of the characters bring at times a lightness to the proceedings. This humour is written to be emergent from the script rather than that they are played comedic.
All experience levels welcome.
You can audition for multiple roles.
18+ only.
Auditions open July 29th to noon (Irish time) August 15th 2026.
Auditions should be uploaded to this form or submitted via our Google form (see our social media).
Please provide two to three takes (third one can be your own free take on the character if you want to).
Our preference for episode recording will be for ABCABC rather than AABBCC but either is fine for auditioning.
Audition audio should be a mp3 file with a file name of CHARACTERNAME_yourname.mp3
Recordings should be 48KHz and 24 bit or higher.
Auditions should be done in the space you will use to record in, with the equipment you intend to record with (all cast VA’s will be recording their lines locally on their own equipment).
We will be looking for good quality original audio with minimal background noise and echo, as the less processing, the better the end product.
Apart from editing the file down to the lines you are submitting, no additional processing should be done to the file. We will take care of denoise, reverb etc.
The role descriptions are of the character, not the voice actor, so feel free to audition for any role that you consider you can do well, irrespective of gender, age etc. For accents that are not specified, we encourage voices from anywhere in the world.
Note on Content
There are no sexually explicit dialogue scenes. There is no sexual violence, though a single-episode character in season two has a backstory of sexual exploitation. You will need to be okay with strong language (swearing). Characters swear when under stress (Franklin swears all the time). Gun, blade and vehicular violence is present throughout the series. It is treated matter of factly and the script does not dwell on gore etc.
Feedback from Season 1 Casting Call
These points are made here in the spirit of helping you put your best foot (or is that voice?) forward:
Follow the instructions! The less speed bumps you put between us and your audition, the more receptive we will be to it. We’re only human.
Submit the sides for the role(s) you are auditioning for. You can submit a voice reel as well if you want, but if you only submit a voice reel, we’ll ignore you.
We will use RX 11 amongst other tools to clean up your audio. Do not process your voice. We will take this into account when listening. We want to hear it raw, as that is what we will be working with during post.
You may make your voice sound worse if your process it without knowing exactly what you’re doing. Being suspicious that an actor is processing their voice? See the first point above!
Don’t submit an AI voice!
It’s ok to add the little nonverbals - sighs, umms physical breaths etc - that can add life to a line reading. Obviously don't overdo it!
You’ll notice that we refrain from giving physical descriptions (‘gravelly’ etc) of characters voices. We found that it encouraged actors to lean on the adjective for their performance, often ruining it. Inhabit the character.
If you’re doing an accent that is not your own, unless you are absolutely sure you are really good at it, please do the first take in your own accent. A submission where we can’t separate the actor from their terrible attempt at an accent is no use to you.
Don’t submit in bad Irish accents just because we’re Irish.
Yes it’s science fiction but avoid cartoonish or OTT accents or voices. We want naturalistic. Season one is your guide.
Most roles were cast in line with what we expected/hoped for, but not all - so if you think you can bring a different perspective to what our description is, go for it. Just don’t get silly with it!
We will clean up low grade noise and reverb as a matter of course. However, a very noisy background or excessive reverb will count against you. If we really like your performance, we might run it through a clean up process to see how it can be improved, or ask you to re-submit, but most likely we won’t - we’ll look for the VAs in control of their environment.
Loudness (this point will not count against your audition so don’t worry if you don’t know what we’re on about, we understand that you’re a VA not a sound designer): We got many auditions that were quite loud or too quiet, sometimes risking our monitors and eardrums as we switched between submissions. The dialogue stem in Witckpunk episodes averages around -18.5 LUFS, ranging between -16 and -20 LUFS depending on the scene energy. So if you want a guide for your recording input level, use these numbers. Please don’t run your recording through a leveller to hit these numbers - see our point about no processing!
