Valerie's rest audio series (Recasting Narrator)
Project Overview
Project Description:
This project was an effort to turn some games of a tabletop RPG called "Golden sky stories" into a series of audio stories, the first episode was completed and can be seen here
I originally played the role of the narrator myself but with less time on my hands these days I'm going to need someone else to do it instead
The scripts for all episodes mentioned in this listing are all already completed, and over half of the cast voice actors have already turned their lines in, this project has really dragged on and delayed so actors who can record their lines punctually and deliver them quickly would be greatly appreciated.
Explanation of the setting:
Golden sky stories takes place in a small, safe, peaceful town in the Japanese countryside (in my specific games it may be more of a blend of Japanese and western culture, wildlife, etc) it is set a few decades ago back before smartphones and any sort of mobile is considered quite new and noteworthy. There is technology around like photocopiers and television but it is not quite as advanced as it is now. People would still write letters, and people may spend their weekends having a picnic once in a while and people generally know each other pretty well
Story description:
The story follows a group of "Henge", supernatural animals capable of taking human form for brief periods of time, they also have a small range of other little powers. These Henge go on little adventures about town helping others, making friends, and usually heading home happy at the end of the day.
Episode Summaries
Episode 3: Someone has been taking people's mail and leaving riddles behind, the henge set out to solve this mystery
Episode 4: Looking for Reiko's lost plushie leads to an encounter with a scary "scissor giant", who turns out to be quite nice

Latest Updates
-
We've posted two new roles for characters who's voice actors have fallen out of contact. I've also lowered the age on Cano Sakuragi to young adult since the role seemed to get so little interest, bear in mind though that she is meant to sound old enough to have a teenage daughter

Deadline pushed back
I've moved back the deadline since we only got 1 audition, and have featured this project now that casting for my other project is finished I hope to see some enthusiastic people apply and finally finish the second episode :) There's also a possibility that new roles may open up soon
The narrator of the series, this role involves quite a lot of lines and may take a while to record. The narrator speaks in a warm and gentle tone as though reading a children's story.
In the peaceful little town of Velerie's rest, people lived a simple life. Despite the advances in technology people would still write letters, picnics were common on the weekends, and people thought of strangers as friends they hadn't met yet.
Yume let out a startled yelp and took some steps backward a little too fast and off balance, windmilling her arms and would have fallen flat on her bottom if Tama hadn't reacted to catch her in time
Lupin stepped forward trying to look up into the eyes hidden as they were under his thick and droopy eyebrows... and as soon as he did the “scissor giant” seemed like a completely different person to the scary man they first thought he was... there was such a gentleness and kindndess in his eyes... teary though they were
Cano appears in episode 2
Cano is the mother of Miho and friend of Rachel and Minami, she's a strong (mentally/emotionally), independent woman working in astronomy and is quite successful in this regard. Cano doesn't back down from anything and has something of a competitive streak. She finds it a bit difficult to admit when she's wrong and apologize and sometimes has a bit of trouble communicating what she really means, she is quite a rational adult deeply skeptical of all things supernatural
(Mildly annoyed like you're busy) I'm doing a little work and research, I can only see the stars at night after all
(Tearfully aplogizing) I lost my temper over an icecream cone and because of that we lost our precious friend I was... I was so cruel.. and heartless and... ... (cancels that sentence starting a new one) Rachel none of this was ever your fault it was mine!
(Scolding) Don't you know you'll worry your parents if you run around after dark?
Yume appears in episodes 2, 3, and very briefly in episode 5.5
Yume is an introverted high school girl who is usually happy to spend her time reading books (particularly fantasy novels), she also writes her own little fairy tale stories from time to time, she can be kind of shy sometimes and usually doesn't have a lot of patience for wilder antics but tries to see the good in other people, she's usually soft-spoken but if the situation is important enough to her she can be very determined, she seems to be pretty open minded
(Timid little yelp of surprise) Who is it?
(Helpful but shy) I can um... give you the address of the hall... hold on a sec
(Bashful but happy) Oh.. t-thank you, I love animals so... I um um...
The reluctant policeman appears in episode 3
The reluctant policeman transferred to Valerie's rest looking for a calm simple easy life in a town where not all that much really happens, is usually more annoyed and tired than helpful whenever somebody actually asks him to help with something, usually trying to find some way to send the person off to handle it themselves, he probably never wanted to be a policeman in the first place
Essentially everything he has to do or say is a pain in the ass for this guy and he'd really rather be doing absolutely anything else, unenthusiastic about his job but not rude
While the role is originally written as a man and will show some bias toward male auditions as the script is already written as such, women can still apply and could get the part if they perform the role well enough
(Explaining) There have been a couple odd practical jokes and stuff about town attributed to one "Devious Baxter", seems to like leaving a calling card of sorts
(Disinterested) I've never had any luck solving the stupid riddles he leaves behind but I don't mind if you take a crack at it
(Emotionally neutral but formal police like voice) Be that as it may it's been to short a time to file a missing person report... Besides I'm sure there's some other reasonable explanation for it, good day madam (short pause like someone else said something) (Repeating in a more firm and stern tone) Good day madam.
IMPORTANT: The rule of Dem will be very strenuous as a LOT of his lines involve yelling, this is as a result of a strange rare medical condition this character has that makes him unable to talk unless he's yelling, please bear this in mind when applying for the part because it could hurt your throat and you must also be able to convey the correct emotions while yelling.
Dem appears in episode 6, while he's listed as "ageless" this character should be older than a child, and ideally somewhere in the Young adult to middle age range, but all auditions are welcome
Dem is a huge disheveled man with a kind and gentle heart, it's hard to see much of his face through his thick beard and the hair that droops down over his eyes. His clothes are almost always dirty and he usually doesn't smell very good, Dem suffers a lot with lacking money and a medical condition that makes him unable to speak unless he's shouting, he also can't read or write. He's not the smartest man and this is clear in the slightly dull and dopey way he talks. His role in the story is basically something about don't judge people before you get to know them having a scary reputation but actually being very nice
(Shouting, but the emotional tone is very fretful and worried and sad) I'D LIKE TO, BUT I KNOW SHE'D PROBABLY JUST GET SCARED AGAIN... (Sniffles, very sad self-pitying voice as he keeps shouting) PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS SCARED OF ME
(Shouting, but the emotional tone is happy and moved) YEAH, THAT'D BE REAL NICE LITTLE BOY, I ALWAYS WANTED A FRIEND
(Not shouting, as though you're narrating a letter you'd written, his voice is a gentle, kind, warm, and a little dopey) Dear little girl, I'm terribly sorry for scaring you so much, I feel real bad about it and I swear I didn't do it on purpose. you dropped your little angel toy and I wanted to make sure you got it back
