Untitled Detective Game
Project Overview
Hello, my name's Cat! I'm a 3D Games Art Student who is creating a (currently) Untitled Detective Game for my final year of University!
About this Project:
This game is more of a demonstration of my own skills within Unreal Engine and will not be any more than a playable level / environment, so please do not expect it to go anywhere huge or to gain further payment than the agreed amount!
For this project, I am looking for a male and two female voice actors (so THREE roles!) Except for one character, race and accents are not set in stone, however, actors must be able to convincingly sound between 35 and 60 years of age and portray a variety of emotions such as rage, contempt, depression, elation, relief and sorrow.
This game's setting is on earth, though combines fantasy, Noire and folk themes through its environments and characters. It is set in a town, possibly on an island or in some other way visually near-inescapable, and combines a group of settled, samey characters who are at home in the town with a group of travelers who are stuck in the town and visually / obviously do not belong.
Games which have inspired me on this project are: The Wolf Among Us, Heavy Rain, L.A. Noire, The Ace Attorney Trilogy etc.
Characters are at different stages of concept lately so please do not take any of the work you see here as final!
Quick Character / Talent Requirement:
In this game, the playable character (phony / fake) constable Odo (a komodo dragon 'man'), will find himself stranded and inexplicably trapped in a strange town whilst on a search for clues about a lost relative. He will speak with, interrogate and possibly fight its inhabitants to find the answers to his questions. Inspired heavily by Telltale's / Bill Willingham's Bigby Wolf (as seen in The Wolf Among Us, 2013), Odo will be gruff, no nonsense, and morally ambiguous. As he is a Komodo dragon man and his origins are unknown, actors can be quite free with his mannerisms and accent, however, I am leaning away from strong European or English accents. Odo's voice role is easily the most vocal and diverse in the game and will include internal monologues, questions, shouting, whispers etc.
One of the characters who is stuck in the town is a once Queen, now drunkard Maleeka. Having once been a powerful and evil Egyptian ruler, Maleeka is used to power and luxury. She is used to being feared and followed by her deciples and she is no stranger to performing evil feats of sacrifice for her wealth and fame. It is the same dark sacrifices that have cursed her with the visage of a jackal, a sign of the God she once prayed to. Now, washed up in this strange town without a single peasant to admire or fear her, Maleeka spends most of her time drinking away her sorrows and hiding from the sun she still believes she looks so good under. Maleeka is stern and evil but will often be depressed, snarky or petty towards the player. Whilst you can make friends with her, it is difficult, and she still may not be a very good friend. Actors who would like to voice Maleeka would preferably have some ability to speak in an Arabic (or at a stretch, Persian) tongue but would most importantly have an accent from a country that speaks one of these languages or one nearby. Actors should also preferably be able to whine, shout, tantrum and slur their speech (as though drunk or hopeless.)
Manning the bar, the Innkeeper is one of the most important NPCs in the game. She’s friendly and bubbly and initially the most welcoming to Odo (especially if he shows her some money) but can become mocking or mean if she takes you for a trouble maker. She's the only native of the island that I'm casting here and her accent will likely define any other locals I cast in the future. I am leaning away from a strong English accent for her too. This NPC will have several lines about selling, buying, conspiracies and tales about the island and its inhabitants. Titiana is a big, strong lady both mentally and physically and I want that to come across in her voice and mannerisms. I am looking for gruff and tough, and not sultry or sweet, though I am looking for voice actors who may be able to perform this too, should Odo win her over in some way (as odd as that would be...) Voice actors should be able to be blunt, matter of fact and growl or bark orders. A range of emotions is, of course, appreciated, but I am only in the early stages of my plan for what she will go through at the moment.
Please read further into the job advertisements below to gain more information about each character and the lines and accents you may be expected to perform for them!
Additional Details that YOU, yes YOU! ...need to know:
There is an initial £15 payment for delivery of agreed voice lines if you are chosen after audition.
After delivering your lines, you may be asked to revise or add additional lines at which point you will be offered an additional £10 per delivery.
Though I do not think this game will go anywhere, I may choose to work on it further or place it on an online storefront at a later date. Of course, I will contact you before either of these things happen to check if you are available and willing to partake further.
These roles will likely include swearing, cursing etc.
As previously mentioned, my course requires me to ask you to sign a contract allowing me to use your work in my project!
Preferably, you will have a good mic and will be able to perform multiple takes of each line for me to choose the best one or give feedback when requesting a change.
Custom voice auditions as submissions are really appreciated and I'd LOVE to hear them! You can even reach out to me for more info on what the character might say, but a link to a portfolio works too.
Please reach out to me for any details, questions or just a chat! I look forward to hearing from you!

Our main character, Detective Private Investigator Constable Odo!
Odo is heavily inspired by Sheriff Bigby Wolf: morally ambiguous, no-nonsense and not afraid to do what he feels needs doing to reach his goal. I chose a Komodo Dragon as they’re not so often anthropomorphised and I was sort of hoping I could make a “Dragon of [boring place name here]” (Yakuza) pun. The main plot twist at the end would be that he is not a lizard-man, but an animal dressed up to look like a detective in the hopes that people would take him seriously. How can he talk? Please don’t ask me.
Generic Noir detectives inspired me: rough around the edges, scraped knuckles, a brown trench coat - perhaps a fedora that hides his eyes (and his feelings.) I wanted burly, rugged, straight out of a movie… Everything Odo believes a detective looks like. Because he isn’t one, he just wants people to think he is.He was also meant to look very simple. Not only will we, the player, hardly see him, but his concerns certainly don’t lie with the latest fashions. They lie with selling himself off as “a private investigator, a detective… or just - something that will get people to take me seriously!”
Like in games such as The Wolf Among Us, or Undertale, Odo's personality is meant to change slightly with the player's actions. He can be rough and mean if the player bids it, but he can also be soft should we want him to, too. After finding himself trapped by magic in a strange town, Odo will initially be so cock-sure and delusional that he believes he has come there on purpose. Only by fighting or speaking with characters in town may Odo learn the real nature of why he is there, from which the player can choose their ending.
Odo will be gruff, no nonsense, and morally ambiguous.
Voice actors are encouraged to feel free to / have fun with maybe giving him a slight hiss or lisp as he IS a lizard. I would like him to have a slight snarl / sneer / growl in his voice as most times, so being able to do this is a plus!
Some character inspirations for Odo are:

"Why don't you just SHUT UP and tell me where I am?"
"Look, I... I didn't mean to shout, 'kay? I just... I miss her."
"Just... give me a drink, would ya?" "Eh... the strongest you've got."
Manning the bar, the Innkeeper is one of the most important NPCs in the game. She's the only native of the island that I'm casting here and her accent will likely define any other locals I cast in the future. I am leaning away from a strong English accent for her too.
The Barmaid's family have been a staple in the town for generations and she is known and loved by many. She will know a lot of gossip in the town and it would do Odo, the player, good to keep her as a friend. She can be impressed with acts of bravery and harmless pranking.
This NPC will have several lines about selling, buying, conspiracies and tales about the island and its inhabitants. Titiana is a big, strong lady both mentally and physically and I want that to come across in her voice and mannerisms. *Sighs* "Look, Odo... I... I really can't put you up for another night if you don't buy something... I've gotta live too, y'know?"
"You're not the first person... we have loads of... visitors." "It's alright, you can have a room, just don't break no rules."
"Come on, you brute. Grab a stool and tell me where you're from, then."
Once an evil ruler with a dark pact with the Gods, Maleeka risked everything for power. The deal was simple: she would offer up countless innocent souls and be blessed with great power. Nobody mentioned the terrible curse, earning her the fearsome visage of the jackal God she’d served. Not even her mother could love that.
Stranded now in this town, away from her altars and henchmen, Maleeka is powerless. She clings dearly to whichever jewels and riches came with her and thinks back to better times when people would offer themselves up as sacrifices or bow and tremble in fear before her. Those days are long gone. Maleeka is washed up, and, without a single worshipper or disciple, her new God is alcohol. She is deluded with visions of royalty and power and her ego and evil personality make her hard to befriend, but, rest assured, she never earned any of the fear she warranted and is utterly harmless without her guards.
Like Odo, Maleeka is, too, stranded in the town but it is clear that she is from a very different world. She is stern and evil (though virtually powerless) but will often be depressed, snarky or petty towards the player. Actors should also preferably be able to whine, shout, tantrum and slur their speech (as though drunk or hopeless) and to audibly pout or sweeten their voice (as she attempts, to no avail, to seduce Odo or another NPC into worshipping her.) It would be nice if actors could also sound disgusted or pitiful, and sneer, as Maleeka constantly believes she is above everyone, even great threats.
Depending on the player's actions, Maleeka may have a change of heart towards the end of the game but will still remain her overall jealous and holier-than-thou personality.
Character Inspirations for Maleeka include:
-Duck Dodger's Queen Tyrahnee
-The pettiness of Monster High's Cleo Denile mixed with the evil and loathing cattiness of Monster High's Toralei Stripe
