Under Her Wings
Project Overview
This project is a reading of the fan-fiction titled Under Her Wings from the website FimFiction. The story outlines the early days of Twilight Sparkle's education under the watchful guidance of Princess Celestia. It should be noted that Princess Celestia has not had a personal student in a very long time, and never before had a student as young as Twilight Sparkle is (8 years and 9 months to be precise). The story itself is still a work in progress but already consists of 15 chapters with an impressive word-count of 155k. I am seeing this project as a single one long read or if along the way it is decided to be easier several smaller videos consisting of one to five chapters. If it is a single long read, given the length of the manuscript I envision a project that is between 1 to 2 hours in length. If the latter decision is made it would consist of several shorter videos that could be anywhere from 10-30 minutes in length. As far as the actors there are over 29 speaking roles, I am looking for a varied cast who can cover the bases as far as vocal range and tone, from young excitable squeals from Twilight Sparkle to aggravated grumbles from the middle-aged councilmen. I do not require professional-level recordings or people with years of Voice Acting experience, I am willing to work with anyone who can put in the time and effort and is willing to work for free as my financial situation is incredibly tight as of late due to circumstances beyond my control. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please don't hesitate to get a hold of me through the social media links on my profile or drop a note on the casting call page and I will do my best to respond promptly. I look forward to meeting with people and discussing how to make this project the best it can be.

I just want to stress something to any and all auditionees as well as cast members who might check this page, for this project to work we need communication to stay open and current. Now, that is not to say that I expect insane levels of communication like every day or something. At the bare minimum, I'd be content with once every week or two, or just keep me updated as best your schedule allows. I realize and respect that people have lives outside of this project including work, school, family, friends, and those less pleasant things that pop up from time to time (often when least expected and/or at a bad time in general). In good faith, Brownie Beak

Narrator Chosen getting close to being done with the building portion.
Just to inform everypony that the role of the Narrator has now been chosen, so that means that we are getting close to finally being able to move onto the next stage of production. That said, for those individuals who have roles already, if you want to start sending me lines, I will accept them, as it does not make sense to force everyone to wait until all roles are filled. Also, in the infobox, it says there are still 24 open roles disregard that as it should say around 19 open roles left. If anyone knows how I can fix this, I would appreciate it. -
Starting to accept lines for cast roles
In an effort to make things run as smoothly as possible, I have decided to start accepting lines for roles that are already cast, and I am going to get working on finishing up the auditions for the rest. If you need the link to my discord server or a link to the story (online or docx. format) just let me know and I will be happy to help out. -
Deadline Pushed back and Welcome Back from the holidays
Between good old fashioned procrastination and the Holidays I was not as active as I ought to have been on this project for which I sincerely apologize, I will be making a concerted effort to get back on the ball as it were, and look forward to hearing from all you wonderful people who have or are thinking of auditioning, to that second group of people I look forward to hearing from you. I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season and a happy new year. -
One week left for auditions
I have decided to shut down auditions in one week, if you want a chance to audition it is strongly suggested you let go of any inhibitions, I really do not care if this is your first time doing voice work or you do not have top notch equipment. I would love to see auditions for some of the minor and secondary roles that do not have any as of this point in time.
The Narrator of this story should be a person who is able to speak clearly and narrate all the goings on with variable amounts of energy depending upon the circumstances (no monotone, please). The keystone to the entire project, I would prefer someone with some experience narrating, but it is not mandatory.
Celestia let out a restrained sigh as she watched her sun
illuminate the castle gardens. She longed to be out there. Even though the
chill of the winter hadn’t been banished entirely, the first signs of spring
were already prevalent throughout the castle gardens. The first of the spring
rains had been scheduled, meaning that clouds were obscuring most of the sky,
which gave the entire garden a somewhat melancholy feel. Celestia didn’t care;
she wanted to watch the small, delicate bluebells bloom when the rains started.
She wanted to feel the warmth of the sun on her skin. After four days of dealing with a huge scandal over the
possible rigging of the mayoral election, another three days spent drafting a
proposal to the Zebra tribes (making an entire diplomatic document rhyme was
far from easy, after all), and an entire week spent attending an overly
ceremonious tea party to which she had been invited by the dragon ambassador,
she had completely lost track of time. Not only that; she had all but forgotten
about the filly she had accepted as her student. Which wasn’t a problem until
an attendant came up to her in the middle of morning court.
Princess Celestia has been the sole ruler of Equestria for over 500 years, as such she has much responsibility on her shoulders. I am looking for a voice that can cover many various emotions while still sounding regal. Being sole ruler means she is rather world-weary a lot of the time, especially when dealing with the stuffy nobles that frequently try to get in her good graces for personal gain. but lately, she has taken on a very young student and has found that this young filly has touched her in ways long-since forgotten, at the hooves of this young student she has laughed, cried, and felt protective of her charge.
*Say something you think would fit*
“Alright, you insipid insect that passes for a mare!” she thundered. “You shall have your wish! You wanted your son to become my student?”
Personal aide to the Princess, Sunny Scrolls job is to make sure the Princess is where she needs to be when she needs to be there. She is also at first rather unhappy about Princess's rash decision to take on a student without thorough planning beforehoof, but given time warms up considerably to the young charge.
“Such things happen, Your Highness, though I cannot help but wonder about the reports I got from the guards stationed at the gates.” She sat down next to Celestia and began levitating over the papers one by one. “It seems there was an artistic—and wholly unsanctioned—explosion of magic released right over the castle.”
“Princess... I’m flattered but...” Sunny replied a little too quickly, giving away just how nervous she was about the sudden promotion. “Surely there is somepony more qualified to handle something as important as this?”
“Sometimes, smart foals learn to read between the lines of
what is being said. Combined with low self-esteem, copious stress, or fear,
however, it can lead them to assign a negative connotation to whatever is said,
no matter how positive the intention of the speaker.”
A young member of the Solar Guard. I am looking for a voice that is young and spry but can also sound nervous or perplexed as the situation calls for.
“G-good
afternoon, your majesty.”“There’s nothing of value; just a bunch of carved rocks. The rest of the unit makes it seem like some sort of punishment detail, but there really isn’t any reason to post somepony here, is there?”
“Yes,
your majesty! Please excuse me, I should be getting back to doing just that.”
A young filly with incredible amounts of raw power, but little to no control. She is incredibly smart for her age (8 3/4 to be precise) but often uncertain of her own abilities. She has a rather low self-esteem, and can easily get overwhelmed. I am looking for a voice that can cover the emotional rollercoaster presented going from chipper and excited one moment to depressingly sad the next, along with heartfelt, the occasional temper-tantrum, scared, and much more besides.
“Did you see that, Princess?!”
“You have nothing to fear, Princess!” The filly announced to the otherwise empty room. “Super Special Guardsmare Captain Twilight Sparkle will protect you from all of the scary things!”
“If I’m stupid, then you’re a double stupid, stupid, meany who is stupid. The Princess taught me lots of spells, and she knows magic better than anypony.”
A scholar and head professor of the prestigious academy for gifted unicorns, he is a very knowledgeable fellow who is capable of asking questions most don't dare to ask. He is unfortunately, lacking in the tact department, as he has the tendency to say things without considering how the listener might interpret his words. I am looking for a voice that is erudite, stuffy, and untroubled when saying things that most polite ponies wouldn't dare say out loud.
“It’s good you arrived when you did, Your Highness,” he said, turning to her
with an unphased smile. “Any
longer and we might not have made it through the day.”“I am deadly
serious, Your Highness. Her power might be great enough to rival your own, but
she utterly lacks any form of control. She is a danger to herself and others.”“I’m afraid not,” Brighthoof replied. “Twilight needs to be locked away, for her own good as well as that of
others.”
A rather emotional stallion, he is protective of his little girl and hates goodbyes. I am looking for a voice that can sound professional or stern but can also do emotional voices as when saying goodbye to his daughter.
“We
apologize for the damage Twilight’s magic has caused, your majesty,”“We were under the impression that you had planned to refit
one of the old astronomy towers to serve as Twilight’s room. May I ask what
happened?”“Your mother and I have to go now,” he said, his voice thick
with emotion. ”You be good, okay?”
Twilight's mother, she is loving and protective of her daughter willing to even go so far as openly question or challenge the rule of the Princess if need be. I am looking for a voice that conveys motherhood, maternal affection, and protection in the scenes where she feels her daughter is being threatened either directly or indirectly.
“I’m
sure the princess will let us come and visit often enough. It’ll be just like
when Shining went to the academy.”“And what of her lesson plan? Please don’t take this the wrong
way, Princess, but I don’t think you quite understand how hard it is to keep
Twilight’s mind occupied. She’s a wonderful filly, but if you’re not
careful...” The mare flushed with embarrassment. “Let’s just say that she has a
way of finding out about certain... things. Things you might not consider her
quite ready for at the time.”“Kick her ass for me.”
one of the many ponies on staff in the Royal Palace.
“Twilight
Sparkle and her parents have arrived, and are waiting by the side entrance as
you requested, Princess,”
One of many hundreds of attendants in the Royal Palace, I am looking for a voice that is crisp, but a tad panicky.
“But Princess! It is vitally important that—”
A pretentious nobelmare, the Duchess is the main antagonist in this story. She is haughty, self-assured, and not above using underhanded tactics to get what she wants. She wants her son to be the student of the Princess and is unhappy that a young common filly is in that role. I am looking for a voice that is snobby, self-important, and proud. I also need a voice that is tone-flexible going from fake-sympathy to verbal jabs to shrieks of rage towards lesser ponies.
“Oh my, what happened to your personal student?”
“The poor dear looks so weak. I bet she would give almost anything to be back home with her parents. Regrettably, Your Highness’ duties have precluded you from any worthwhile maternal experience, which no doubt plays a factor in the filly’s problems,”
“Why hasn’t he received the proper care yet? Do I really need to remind you oafs who you are dealing with?”
The Head Chef in the Palace Kitchens, Honey Mead is without question, passionate about food. He lives to see others enjoy his culinary creativity, and is quite upset when someone misses a meal. A proud father of three, he is known for his jovial attitude, as well as his penchant for long-winded stories. Considered by the Princess to be a close friend, he is one of few ponies who could get away with freely criticizing the princess without her explicit permission. I am looking for a voice that is befitting a culinarian, thick and rich with just the right amounts of sweetness and spice. I would like someone whose voice is I'm imagining something in the deeper vocal registers, with perhaps the tiniest hint of an accent on certain words, but it need not be a heavy stereotypical French accent used all too often in cartoons and movies where food is part of the plot. I want someone who can convey unsaid laughter in their speaking but becomes deadly serious should the situation call for it.
“Princess! What brings you to the tropical atmosphere of the Canterlothian Kitchens?” Honey Mead called out to her when she walked down the small five-step flight of wooden stairs leading to the subterranean basement the kitchens were situated in. “I would hope it’s because you could smell the aroma of my newest recipe: ‘Bamboo a la Honey’ but since the aroma of the kitchens doesn’t reach that far, I’m going to take a guess and say you’re here for some other delicacy.”
“Just so you know, Princess,” he said between a few deep
intakes of breath. “I’m putting you on a diet from here on out.”
A pompous windbag of a stallion, formerly one of Princess Celestia's council members, he and the rest of the council have been fired for taking advantage of their stations and growing complacent over the years, failing to actually give counsel to the Princess.
“My esteemed colleagues and I recently learned that Your Highness has appointed a young unicorn to the position of Court Overseer.”
“This is an outrage! I demand that we put this to a vote and see who the people will want to follow!”
She was one of two mares on Celestia's Royal Council until its recent disbandment. I am looking for someone who has an upper range type of voice, with emphasis on sounding aghast or on the verge of an emotional breakdown.
“W-what
are we supposed to do?”
One of Princess Celestia's personal Bodyguards, he is slightly younger than his brother in arms Rook, but don't let that fool you he takes his job quite seriously and is willing to defy direct orders in his efforts to protect his Princess (who he may have some small fantasies about), He is also rather taken by the antics of young Twilight Sparkle even going so far as to engage her in a playful paint-fight. I need a voice that can sound commanding and strict but has a tinge of youthfulness about it.
“Yes,
Your Majesty,”“Sorry, Your Majesty, but I agree with him.”
“She was very determined when she told us about her plan, Princess,” he said sheepishly. “I thought it best to help her, or I think we would have risked her doing it by herself.”
A shady and down-right smarmy reporter for a well known if infamous gossip magazine/column. I am looking for someone who can give this character a greasy sort of countenance, not exactly a bad guy, but definitely not a good guy. I am looking for a voice that can give snappy quick lines like a movie gangster or newspaperman. Another way to think about this character is that he thinks he can charm himself out of any situation and is usually given free reign so long as he claims to be voicing his ludicrous claims in the name of "journalism".
“I run Equestria’s premier gossip column after all, and as a
reporter, I consider it my duty to investigate whether such claims have some
truth to them!”“Speaking of which, Princess, do you think you could get me out of this cell? I was hoping to be home by the weekend. I have a major article to write and deadlines don’t wait for anypony.”
"I
don't know, and even if I did... A good reporter never reveals his
sources."
The Younger sister of Sunny Scrolls, she wants to be more like her sister and is rather unhappy about her current position as a maid. Her first appearance has her pretending to be a palace guard(so add some faux-drill Sargent if you are comfortable with ad-libbing) I would like a voice that is young and chipper, but can pretend to be strict and stern, I also would like the person who gets the role to be able to shift to tones that are apologetic or uncomfortable or even slightly panicky depending on the lines in question.
“Everyone calls me QT,” the mare repeated sheepishly, “It’s
a nickname.”“You’re
not going to fire her just because she’s tired, are you?” She stiffened and
attempted a half-bow, trying to balance the need to excuse herself with making
sure her sister didn’t fall off her back. “Please don’t, she works so hard
and—”“I
hate being a maid,”
Head physician in the Palace Infirmary, Is rather irked about Celestia's tendencies to ignore his instructions, especially where rest during recovery periods is concerned. I would like a voice that can sound clinical and dry but not unfriendly, and when dealing with lines regarding the Princess's not being exactly cooperative can sound rather testy or peeved.
“She
will be alright, Princess. The problem seems to have been that she was trying
to cast highly advanced spells whilst suffering from a minor case of
malnutrition.”"I
must disagree. All of your magical leylines are frayed, and we've even found a
hairline fracture in your horn," he said, making gestures to the relevant
spots as he talked. "I don't know what happened exactly, but as your
physician, I must insist that you take it easy for the next couple of days,
perhaps even take a day off."“I’m
sure you are capable, Princess,” the doctor that had spoken up before retorted,
“But merely by looking at you, I can tell that you are gravely injured. In my
professional medical opinion, you look like a wreck, and you shouldn’t be
walking. So please, get on the stretcher.”
One of Celestia's Bodyguards, he is more serious than Aegis, but he is not without a heart (especially where young Twilight is concerned) but he does have a short temper especially when stressed, which is a good deal of the time given the nature of his job. Not the most talkative fellow, He takes his job of protecting the Princess very seriously, he will openly defy orders if he feels it goes against the Princesses best interests. I would like to have a voice that sounds commanding and strict, with some years of experience, but can sound like a father explaining why the kids cannot do some activity or another.
*Say something you think would fit*
“I’m sorry, Twilight. It is against regulations. We guards have to be ready at a moment’s notice and need to be able to oversee everything.”
One of many nurses in the Palace Infirmary I would like to have a voice that can sound genuinely concerned about the Princess's welfare.
“What
happened, Princess?”
A palace messenger, She is dedicated and driven to deliver her messages. Interestingly enough, when she does not have a task to keep her focused, she can be very scatterbrained. I need a voice that can sound genuinely confused about things they don't understand and for the last line a panicky sort of voice.
"Isn’t it... weird to take care of a baby dragon? He’s
all scaley and fiery. Wouldn’t it be better to fly him to the nearest cave and
let him grow up there?”“Then why don’t we send out a flight of pegasi to find a
dragon that can take care of him? Can’t be that hard; I once saw a dozen
dragons when I was younger.”“I lost the baby dragon!”
One of the head caretakers in the palace nursery, currently helping her husband take care of an infant dragon who is proving to be a real handful.(that we now know as Spike). She and her husband are both getting up in years, and have been helping in the nursery for many years, they have a rather interesting relationship as they clearly love each other, but they argue with each other frequently. For this character, I would like someone who can do a grandmotherly or nanny type voice.
“It seemed like a good idea at the time! Better than
carrying water in a diaper at least!”“It’s that hatchling you asked us to take care of,
Princess,” First Steps answered her instead of her husband. “He has been so
restless and aggressive that we’re afraid to leave him alone for an instant. He
keeps trying to bite our hooves off any time we come close and cries at all
other times!”“We don’t really know, Princess. Normally I would recommend
the mother’s milk for a foal this young, but...” First Steps shared a glance
with her husband who nodded. “We gathered from your previous explanation that
dragons do not suckle their young?”
Husband of First Steps and one of the head caretakers in the palace nursery I need a voice that can indicate age and experience, but also be snippy as he and his wife don't exactly see eye to eye on certain subjects and frequently have heated debates about them.
“I told you that flapping your darned wings wouldn’t work!”
“Things
are going we—” Gentle Nudge winced ever so slightly when his wife slapped him
on the back with one of her wings. “Not great. Sorry for calling you here, Your
Majesty, but considering the circumstances...”“In
that case, I would say we need a stand-in,” Gentle Nudge said, rubbing the back
of his neck. “Though stars know where we’re going to find a mare willing to let
that little hellion get close enough to actually suckle him.”
A rather enthusiastic tour guide of the Royal Palace and all that it entails(that's open to the public in any case), including historical knowledge, trivia, and so forth. For this role, I would like someone who can put a lot of enthusiasm in their delivery, and if they can be over the top in delivery or put in just a hint of a valley girl type inflection that would be an added bonus (but not entirely necessary)
“Originally,
the nebulous space with enhanced support pillars—which, when combined, carry a
weight of over one and a half million tonnes!“Although
The Promenade is situated under twelve feet of solid rock, a pony could be
forgiven for thinking they were right outside,”Over the years, as our fair Princess Celestia forged peace between most every nation on the face of Equestria, however, the nigh-forgotten storage facility became home to a grey market, a trading hub for legal and illegal goods alike, hidden right under the noses of the guard. When their dealings were discovered several hundreds of years ago, the princess, in her infinite wisdom, decided that the time for fear of siege had passed, and ordered it turned into the wonderous place it is today.”
A colt who seems to enjoy staying away from his parents, we meet him hiding out in one of the castle tour groups. I want a voice that is rather snarky sounding.
“Boring, isn’t it?”
“Y’know,
blending in, hiding from the folks. You?”“First timer, huh? Don’t worry, The Prom’s plenty crowded
enough. Your folks will never find you.” He glanced around and ducked when he
apparently spotted his own. “Gotta run. See you around.”
The son of Duchess Blueblood, and heir to house Blueblood, he was by all accounts a sweet child but years of being underneath his mother's hoof and less than charitable influence, have turned him into a snot-nosed brat. I need a voice that is young enough to be still considered a child of around 10-12 years old, I want a voice that can be timid when responding to reprimands from his mother, but otherwise snotty and rather puffed up.
“Then
might I suggest that you tuck your tail between your legs and run home to your
mommy? If you give up the duel and let me become her student, at least you’ll
be spared the worst of what could happen.”"I
am... sorry for saying something so stupid,"“Mother
hired some of the best dueling teachers in the country to tutor me. Do you really
think you have any chance of winning? You’re just a stupid filly that doesn’t
know how to use spells properly.”
One of the trainers hired by the Duchess for the duel between her son and Twilight Sparkle, and there is more to this character than meets the eye. I am looking for a voice that is polite and crisp, but rather dry in delivery.
“Forgive us, Princess. The Duchess very much wanted to be present for the event, but was otherwise engaged. Bladed Edge and I,” he gestured to the stallion beside him. “Have both worked tirelessly to prepare the young master for this duel, along with Double Cross who is unfortunately running late. We humbly request that we be allowed to stay and watch.” He made a vague gesture. “To monitor his progress as much as to provide moral support.”
One of the trainers for the duel between young Master Blueblood and Twilight Sparkle. Like her cohort Bladed Edge, there is more to this mare than meets the eye.
“Not
good enough, one hit wonder,”“Oh I dare, Princess. It’s so much more fun when they scream, don’t you think?”
“She just had to make everything more difficult. I despise ponies that get between me and my payday.”
“We
demand the head of Duchess Blueblood!”“Well, no, not as such, but she masterminded the attack on
the Princess.”“She’s been undermining the Princess’ authority at every
possible occasion, and furthermore, she hired those assassins that posed as
tutors!”
A living memory of Princess Luna as a young filly barely out of foal-hood but not the princess herself, a nostalgic hallucination brought on by the near thousand years of regrets and guilt in Princess Celestia's heart along with passing out due to physical exhaustion from a hard day.
“What is the matter, ‘Tia? Dost thou not want to play with us anymore?”
“Night-time, Day-time, of course! Dost thou forget?”
“No! We wanted to be first!”
