Unchanging Love (MLPFiM fanfic adaptation)

Unchanging Love (MLPFiM fanfic adaptation)

Project Overview

"Unchanging Love" is a fan fiction based in the world of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. There are no characters from canon here, but the story takes place around the time of the Season 2 finale, "A Canterlot Wedding", and the changeling invasion that happens then. Here is the description of the story provided by the author:

It’s the week before the Canterlot wedding and tensions are high, even more so for the changeling love collectors. With the results of the wedding, life is going to change drastically, regardless of the outcome.

For one co-owner of the Sweet Roast Cafe, wife to a loving stallion, and undercover changeling, Sweet Leaf can only hope this change is kind.

The story is around 23,000 words long, and the script I created from it is 99 pages long, which would indicate that - if adapted in full - the resulting audio would be over an hour and a half long. This does look ambitious, but you never know what you can or can't do until you try!

If you'd like to read the script, click here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VyAdgvgYpIz0cICehBx8xOJGiKmKdb2K/view?usp=sharing If you'd like to read the original story, I linked it earlier, but here it is again: https://www.fimfiction.net/story/447442/unchanging-love

All final casting decisions will be made by the author, Azure Notion. I will send to him what I believe to be worthy candidates, and from those, he'll decide whom to cast. Anyone, regardless of talent, should apply! We want all levels of skill to do their best.

Rules:
1. You can "slate" (say your name and the character you're trying out for) if you want to, but you don't have to. Mainly because if you do your audition right, the place we play back your audio will already tell us this info!
2. Try multiple takes per character, to show your range. Picture what you think the character sounds like, and experiment with different inflections, or tempos for how you say the lines.
3. Have a high-quality microphone. The less noise, the better. If you can't make use of a pop filter, foam, or soundproofing, then adjust your microphone's recording volume accordingly and get closer to the microphone so that you're not too quiet. But also not too loud! Don't eat the mic. Watch your Ps and Bs.
4. If you have any questions about the story or characters, please feel free to ask me, and I will either answer from what I know, or forward your question to Azure Notion if I'm not sure. You can write it as a comment on your audition, send me a PM on this site, message me on Discord (Dogman15#6007), or even contact me on Twitter if you want. My e-mail address is also available from my YouTube channel if you prefer.
5. Have fun! That's ultimately what this project is about. It doesn't matter if you're just starting out (you might be undiscovered talent!) or you have some hefty experience on your belt.

  • A message directly from Azure Notion (the author)!

"Hey, everyone! Azure Notion here. I first wanted to give a huge thank you to all of you who auditioned. While this is still mainly Dogman’s project, it blows me away that so many of you showed interest in participating in this adaptation of my little story. Speaking of all your auditions, I’m really sorry about taking so long to get these roles cast. There were a lot of hard decisions to make with all the talent that this project received. On top of the difficult choices, I got sick twice since the audition period closed and had to deal with all the normal life stuff like work. I’m doing better now, though, so no worries there! However, while all the roles have been cast, I still owe several of you some feedback. So be on the lookout for that over the next week. If there are any of you who haven’t requested feedback on your auditions, but would still like some, feel free to send a message over to Dogman and he’ll add it to the list for me to review. Finally, I want to thank Dogman for putting on this project. He poured a lot of time and effort into organizing all this and converting my story into a screenplay. I’m greatly looking forward to seeing the no doubt amazing finished product. Thank you again, everyone! Stay safe and much love! ~Azure"
  • All roles have been cast! Walla/extra roles are available.

Thanks to everyone who auditioned! Here's the final cast list, as picked by Azure Notion (the story's author): (Keep reading this update to the end if you didn't get cast.) Ginger Sue as Sweat Leaf/Firefly BeardyMan as Fine Roast TheDawnCatcher as Bobby Pin/Spindle Avaltah as Cherry Custard Vulpinal as Skirrax Travisd124 as Long Scroll BlackCatBonifide as Skitter Merry_Ryan as Tarsus Merry_Ryan also voices Tarsus' two pony disguises: Vibrant Brush and Warm Plate Nightfire as Orange Mint Tom Laflin as High Marks DemonGroceryStore as Wavy Palette Jordan Olling as "Creepo" Stephen Cumberworth as Dusty Pail Voxridian as Straight Angle Plus an assortment of artists to help out after all of the voice recording is done! As a reminder, I didn't make any of these cast selections. It was all Azure Notion. It's his story! But now it's my job to direct this. Feel free to stay tuned for updates, including this one: If you did not get cast in a paid role, I have positions available for unpaid "walla" roles. Walla is background voice work used to fill out crowd scenes. In this story, that includes a train station, a fancy restaurant, streets of varying busy-ness, and of course the Sweet Roast Cafe itself. If you are interested in joining this project as an unpaid extra role, please send me a message. I can be reached here on Casting Call Club, by Discord (Dogman15#6007), or you can find my e-mail address by solving the Captcha on my YouTube "about" page: https://www.youtube.com/user/dogman15/about
  • Azure Notion is still in the process of listening to auditions.

Your patience is appreciated! That being said, if you would like to hear what his feedback on your audition is as soon as possible, please let me know. I can be reached via PM on this site, adding me on Discord (Dogman15#6007), or sending me an e-mail (my e-mail address can be found by visiting my YouTube channel and solving the captcha). Currently, Azure Notion has listened to all of the Sweet Leaf/Firefly and Fine Roast auditions, and some of the Bobby Pin auditions. I've already contacted a few of you and told you what his feedback on your audition for those characters was. I can either pass along his feedback to you as he completes each of your auditions, or you can elect to wait until he's listened to all of your auditions for all characters you auditioned for before hearing the feedback in bulk. Alternatively, you may opt to not receive any of his feedback. It's completely up to you! He has marked a portion of the auditions as "maybe", and the rest as "no" (for 'role potential'). Any further discussion of results, I feel should be left private between the individual auditionee and myself/Azure Notion. Anyway, just wanted to keep you all in the know, and to assure you that, yes, we are making steady progress on hearing and evaluating all of the hundreds of auditions. Have a great week, and once again, thank you for your interest in this project!
  • Welcome to October!

318 auditions, 112 followers! Are those mutually inclusive? Are all auditionees followers automatically? Is that just 112 followers who aren't auditionees? These are things I don't know about how Buford runs this site. But no matter! The deadline has arrived! Other than one special exception, no more auditions; we have plenty now! Holy cow, that's a lot of auditions! Once again, thank you so much for all of the enthusiasm and support. I've never received this many auditions on anything before, and I want to repeat my thanks to Azure Notion, since without his help, none of this would be possible. He's the one who wrote an engaging story with characters you can really care about. And now he has the unenviable job of listening to hundreds of auditions (with my help compiling links to them for him, so he doesn't have to figure out how this site works). It will take Azure Notion a few days, possibly weeks (?), to listen to all of the auditions and cast each character. As I've said before to some of you, he's also got to balance his real job, writing his current story, and having his own personal free time to recuperate. As for me, I also have a real job during the day; this voice stuff is all just for fun for me, at least at this time in my life. Who knows if things might change for me in the future? As each person/character is cast by A.N., I will click the "cast" button on their audition to inform them, and they'll be invited to the Project Chat (a feature of this website that I have no idea how used it is). Once all roles are cast, I'll invite all of the cast members into the Discord server at the same time. For all of you who don't get cast in a paid role, keep reading: There will be roughly 300 of you who do not get a role, though it's hard to count since some people only submitted one audition total, and some people submitted more than one audition for a character, and some people submitted one audition each for multiple characters. Thus making it very impractical to manually count that kind of thing. Too bad there's not an automatic way to see that kind of data. Anyway... If you auditioned but end up being one of the 300 people who do not get a paid role, then I have something else you may be interested in. Walla! That is to say, background/extra roles. I can't afford to pay for walla too, so these roles will be unpaid. Read on for more info... This story has a few scenes that take place in areas with crowds or groups of ponies. Locations like a train station, busy streets, a fancy restaurant at night, and of course, the Sweet Roast Cafe itself. If you choose to join the crew as an unpaid extra/walla, I'll ask you to improvise dialogue (or just say nonsense) based on the location and setting, and context of the scene. I can't guarantee you'll be invited to the Discord server, though. I'd really like to keep it as small as possible. It depends on how many people are interested in providing walla for free. I think that's all I wanted to say in this update. The next update I post will be when all of the roles have been cast. TTFN!
  • One week left!

One week left until auditions close! If you've been eyeballing this project and said to yourself "Hmm, that looks interesting. I think I'd like to audition for it," but you haven't found the time to sit down and record your voice, this is your warning! Any auditions that come in after 11:59 pm on Wednesday, September 30th... well, to be honest, I'm not exactly sure what the penalty should be. Or if there should be one. But anyway! I said this before, but I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY by all of the *amazing* talent here! I'm so honored that you all thought this project worth your time to try auditioning for, and I want to find a way to thank all of you individually if I can! I'd also like to give a big thank you and shout-out to the author, Azure Notion. This project wouldn't be possible without him. Not only did he write the story that inspired me to make this project, but I'm also doing this with his blessing and collaboration. Without his support, this would be a much smaller project and probably not get as much attention. If you get a chance to talk to him, be sure to thank him! My next update post will be on September 1st, I believe. Then after that, another one with a formal announcement of who got cast, plus a few other things to announce for those who didn't get a featured role. Lastly, for those of you reading this who are still beginning your voice acting journey (we've got a healthy mixture different experience levels on display here), might I recommend Dee Bradley Baker's website? (I've shared this link with a few of you already.) https://iwanttobeavoiceactor.com/ You can learn more about what it takes to become a voice actor here. Sweet Leaf/Firefly

Paid: Flat Rate 300 USD

Sweet Leaf is the co-owner of The Sweet Roast Cafe, which she runs with her husband Fine Roast. Sweet Leaf is a happy, enthusiastic, and smart girl, but sometimes is a little bubbly. She's a caring wife and is easy to talk to, even though she's a bit sarcastic at times. However, when she's around others of her kind (other changelings), her personality reverts to her (Firefly's) style.

Firefly is a serious, but not stoic, female changeling and is genuinely smart and logical. She tends to care for and take under her wing those who are of lesser experience than her. After years of posing as someone else and acting as someone's wife, deep down, she's begun to wish she could have that love for herself. She tries to deny it as her kind isn't allowed such things.

Sweet Leaf has 1,918 words and Firefly has 2,476 words. Together, her VA will have 4,394 words. The timing for Sweet Leaf is 10 minutes and 40 seconds, and Firefly's lines take about 13 minutes and 46 seconds to read. Added together, this is about 24 and a half minutes of talking from her VA. Sweet Leaf has 151 lines and Firefly has 147 lines. Combined, her VA will have 298 lines to read.

Sweet Leaf's voice: Authentic, Approachable, Conversational, Believable, Intelligent, Happy, Housewife; Firefly's voice: Authentic, Commanding, Authoritative, Genuine, Intelligent, Engaging, Helpful

  • [as Sweet Leaf, to High Marks] Sorry, sir. This is a first-come, first-serve cafe and you still have a couple orders in front of you. [...] I'm sorry. That's not how this shop works and the longer you keep me from the station, the longer it's going to take me to get your drink.

  • [as Firefly, to Tarsus] Perhaps you're right. We do talk and behave a bit like ponies. I think you're exaggerating a bit much, but after being submerged in a culture for so long, one is bound to pick up some of their habits. (Tarsus: "Maybe I could see that for you or Skitter
(gesturing to each) But Spindle just came from the hive, she shou...") [Firefly; interrupting] Oh come off it! She's new and she just got into the real world. I'm sure you remember it being a lot different from training. She's learning how we behave at these meetings and is trying to be part of our group.

  • [as Sweet Leaf, happy tone, in response to Cherry Custard asking "So we're good? It's just us?"] It sure is. Roast is still out on a business trip and I shooed the last customer out a little over an hour ago. Have a seat at the table and feel free to make yourself at home! I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to make myself a cappuccino while we talk. Would you like one as well? [condensed and adapted from the actual script]

Fine Roast is a husband that cares deeply for his wife. Though he's been raised with the mentality of taking care of his spouse, he can get a little defensive of his wife. He's easy to talk to and enjoys making polite conversation with his customers. With no steep aspirations, all he wants is to serve his customers and love his wife. He owns and runs the Sweet Roast Cafe, a coffee shop in Hoofington. He's a major character and has 202 lines.

Voice: Guy Next Door, Husband, Confident, Conversational, Friendly, Mildy Classy

  • [to Sweet Leaf] The convention ended last night and there weren't any distributors left that I cared to have lunch with today. I didn't have anything else to do, so I took the earliest train. I didn't want to leave you to handle the shop alone longer than I had to. ("I can handle myself. You know that.") I do know. But I've also worked the counter alone and I know how hectic it can get. Just because you can do something doesn't mean it's enjoyable. One pony working a two pony job is hard, no matter how you look at it. I love you too much to leave you with that burden for too long.

  • [Firm and suspicious towards Sweet Leaf] That was your friend, right? ["Yes, she was."] She's the one who came in earlier. The one who brought you the newspaper? Why would she do that? Why would she bring you of all ponies a newspaper depicting exactly what she was? ["...she needed someone to talk to."] [Softly accusatory] Someone she could relate to. [Resigned sigh] Sweet Leaf, I know you're one of them. I've seen you. ["You couldn't have. I've never..."] I need to know. Are you my wife? Am I your husband? What are you really after? [condensed and adapted from the actual script]

  • [Firefly has revealed herself near the climax of the story. Firefly: "You're an idiot. Standing in front of a viper, trying to hide your fear. What makes you think I won't bite?"] I'm afraid because I believe you could. I'm standing here because I don't believe you would. I don't believe you and my wife are two separate creatures. The experiences we've had, the laughter, the sadness, the pain we've gone through together; I don't believe you can be someone for four years and yet claim to be someone completely different underneath.

Bobby Pin is a sweet, happy girl, but is a bit inexperienced. She's trying her hardest to make it in the world, but can be a bit forgetful. When in larger groups, she tends to be more soft-spoken and reserved and sometimes says the wrong things. When things go wrong, she's prone to panic and that makes her even more mistake-prone. Spindle has the same personality as Bobby Pin. She is still new at being a love collector, so she sometimes forgets things or needs assistance or guidance from Firefly or the other changelings in Hoofington. While in disguise as Bobby Pin in Hoofington, her boyfriend is Wavy Palette. Bobby Pin has 19 lines, and Spindle has 4 lines. Together, her VA will have a total of 23 lines, equaling exactly 218 words.

  • [Sweet Leaf: "How have you been settling in?"] It's been a huge change. It's not at all like I thought it would be. [Sweet Leaf: "Oh? You've been here four months, is that right?"] Three months, actually. And it's just so... different from back home [referring to the changeling hive]. I know what they all said and what we were taught, but it's such a shock when you actually get here.

  • [Sweet Leaf: "Bobby Pin? Are you alright?"] [out of breath from running] Oh thank goodness, Sweet Leaf. I made my way over as fast as I could. [holding a newspaper] [SL: "Really, Bobby? The news from this morning is hardly anything to rush about."] Oh no. This isn't from this morning. This just came off the press.

  • [Bobby Pin/Spindle shows up at the cafe's back door, where Sweet Leaf/Firefly answers. Sweat Leaf says in a hushed but urgent voice "What do you think you're doing here?!"] [hushed panic] I-I messed up! Wavy found out. I-I mean he saw me when I was changing! I didn't know what to do so I ran. [...] You've done this before though! I need help! Please! [...] Yeah, I think so. But I need love! I can't get at mine. C-could I borrow one of your crystals?

"Cherry Custard" is one of the pony disguises that changeling gatherers use when they need to gather love crystals from collectors (like Firefly and Spindle) out in the field. In this story, the Cherry Custard disguise is being used by Skirrax, a male changeling. Cherry Custard has a total of 14 lines.

  • [Cherry Custard has just gotten off the train and is greeted by Sweet Leaf, who says "I trust everything is well back at home? Your mother's upcoming marriage must be taking quite a toll on the family."] As much as you could imagine. The preparations have hit a few snags here and there, but it all seems to be coming together. Speaking of which, I have so much to tell you. Is there somewhere quiet we can sit and chat?

  • [talking about coffee with Sweet Leaf] Mmm. I wouldn't know much about that. My family doesn't have many coffee drinkers. [referring to Queen Chrysalis, Sweet Leaf says "I truly do wish your mother wouldn't be so stingy with the stuff. It's quite the delicious concoction if done properly."] [with a bit of indignation, Cherry Custard replies] You know as well as I why Mother isn't a fan of the drink. It doesn't do anypony much good if it's taking resources from our food budget. Plus, it's not like our home is quite set up to allow for any appliance, much less a fancy coffee maker.

  • [right after undisguising in Sweet Leaf's private upstairs kitchen] Ahhh! That's so nice. It's been over a month since I've been able to drop my form.

  • [Sweet Leaf: "May I have your name?"] Of course. My name is Skirrax. [...] Anyway, I've been instructed to gather all available love from you this month, no reserves to be left behind.

  • ["There were no changes we needed to be aware of?"] None that impacted you, no. In fact, most of it's just gossip. In any case, with the wedding only one week away, our queen has pulled all available fighters in case things don't go well. • ["Are you sure? How do you know?"] [almost hysterical] It was surreal! I was coming into our room and it was there, just like the pictures. It looked at me and... flash! Changed right into Bobby Pin's body!

A creepazoid character who shows up at the Sweet Roast Cafe one day saying lewd things and sexually harassing Sweet Leaf - only verbally, though. She doesn't let him get away with much, and Fine Roast arrives within a few minutes of the start of Creepo's conversation starting. He has 9 lines.

  • [Sweet Leaf: "Good afternoon, sir. Welcome to the Sweet Roast Cafe. What can I get for you?"] Mmmm... I think I'll take a coffee, dark, and a pair of glazed sticky buns. [His eyes roam all over her body except for her eyes. He stares at her flank.]

  • [low, sexy tone] Oh no, not those buns. I was thinking maybe you could... mmm, take a little break? Maybe we could get to know each other a little better *in the back?*

  • ["I'm sorry, sir. This isn't that kind of establishment. If you'd like something to drink or eat, I'd be glad to serve you. Otherwise, I'd kindly ask you to leave."] Come on, don't be like that, honey. I'm just lookin' to get us a little something we'd both enjoy.

A regular customer of the Sweet Roast Cafe, and a friend of Sweet Leaf. He's a little older than "young adult", but not as old as "middle age". He only has six lines.

  • [Sweet Leaf: "How are you?"] I'm doing quite well. How are you and Roast doing? I haven't had the time to stop and chat in a couple weeks.

  • ["We're doing great. Roast just got back from a coffee convention over in Baltimare and the cafe has been keeping us as busy as ever."] That's great. By the way, I wanted to ask you, my wife thinks she left her book at your cafe. You wouldn't happen to have a lost and found, would you?

  • ["We do. I think we might have picked up a book of sorts. Do you know the title or author?"] I have no idea other than it's a fantasy novel about sparkly dragons or something like that.

A friend of Fine Roast. He has five lines.

  • Roast! How are you doin', buddy? ["Hey, Angle, I'm doing as well as I can be. Would you like your usual?"] You know it!

  • [looking around] Hey, where's the lady friend of yours?

  • ["Oh, I'm afraid she's out for the moment. She had a little family issue to deal with and had to leave last night."] [sympathetically] Ah, that's not great. Sorry about that. Any idea when she might be back?

We can't illustrate everything in this story, but for the video, I'd like to have some simple illustrations of key or important scenes. The author has made blueprints of the interior (both floors) of the Sweet Roast Cafe for artists to refer to if hired, and has detailed character appearance information, as well. If picked, we can discuss which scenes are important enough to warrant illustration.
