The Hayseed Knight (Chapter 2)

The Hayseed Knight (Chapter 2)

Project Overview

The Hayseed Knight is an indie visual novel that follows the adventures of Ader, the one eyed deer, while he desperately tries to stay on track to fulfill his dream: becoming a knight. On a meta sense, the player is The Narrator, a character hellbent on finding out what truly happened to Ader and his friends, who are little more than legendary characters at this point.

Currently working on Chapter 2 out of the first three that will constitute Act 1, a free demo intended to garner attention in patreon . Planning to move to steam in the next months. From Act 2 onward, the game will be commercial.

Currently recasting the main character. The auditions will last two weeks, and then we'll be working together for the next month to get a feel for the character and deliver the lines before moving on to chapter 3.
Extras will be paid 1$ a line for a minimum of 10$.
All main/secondary characters will be paid 2$ a line for a minimum of 10$ as well.

Role assigned to: KenjiCandy

Djao is a calm, composed ibex woman, hailing from the frozen tundra. Godfearing and very devout to the old traditions and Barhan religion, now disappeared from the south.
She's in her 20s, but the hardships of life taught her to talk with wisdom beyond her age. Currently works guarding caravans for a living, earning herself a reputation as a mercenary that has never once drawn her weapon, firmly believing that there's no problem that can't be talked out.
She only has a small role in chapter 2, but she'll appear later on as a recurring character.
She speaks the main language in a very broken way, but she's eloquent and literate in her own as shown in line 3.  I don't have a specific accent in mind for her, so any accents other than the most common English ones are welcome.
—Non-natives preferred.

  • "…Is cold, boy? Is fire or tea you want, we help. Food is of we, fire is of Sun. Tea is of friend. Sit with we is welcome. Weapon, not."

  • "Hirub guard your path home, stranger."

  • "Ibex, call us the Ekain. Barhan, we call ourselves. I am surprised to see you know not my kin, when your eyes say you have lived much— or is it my craft that concerns you? I am a mercenary, if so."

Sir Askedaz is the captain of the city guard, but most importantly, he's a boisterous and belligerent imbecile. He's REALLY LOUD to make up for it! Of course, it's not like he's insecure or anything— he's part of nobility, and he likes to remind those lowly peasants under his command lest they forget.
Somewhere in his late 20s, early 30s. He hails from the north where everyone has a British accent, but has spent enough time in the city that anyone that can pull a real enough British accent is welcome to try.
Small role in this chapter, but will be a recurring character for the rest of the VN.

  • "What are you looking at, sandfur?! YOU WANT A PIECE OF THIS?! *snort* That's what I thought!"

  • "BUT BABE, I LOVE YOU!"

  • "...(awkward pause) THIS IS REALLY GOOD WINE, DAMN IT."

Barkeep

The respectable owner of "The Lucky Bastard", the closest thing one can find to a tavern in Slander District. Swears-a-lot.
I want to steer clear from the typical RPG barkeep, so I'm leaving it open for any gender, and will draw a sprite accordingly to the voice chosen! So go wild, invent your own barkeep!
Just stop those fools from wrecking your beloved tavern.

  • "There you are, Ader! Just the man I wanted to stab today! Go tell that asshat friend of yours to tune that stupid piece of—"

  • "YOU BUNCH O' TWATS BETTER GET YOUR ASSES OUTTA THIS PLACE IMMEDIATELY, THESE TWO WANT SOME SPACE!"

Role assigned to: gpuatu

This is the youngest of the couple of guards standing of the way of one of the protagonists in this scene.
Being a motivated guard that loves his job and his salary very much, he's meant to sound angry and with a strong voice, preferrably somewhere in his early 20s.
A racist sort of deprecation should be present in these lines.

  • Just who do you think you are?

  • Wh—?! You’re not gonna trick me with that, scum!

  • We?! I want nothing to do with this!

Role assigned to: D Tyler Fultz

An older guard, stopping one of the protagonists in their tracks.
He should sound kind and sweet, patient even, preferrably in his 30s. A stark contrast towards the other guard's anger.
His role in this scene is basically being a creep, making unwanted advances at said protagonist.
The last line is the only one where he's drunk.

  • ...See, maybe I can’t recognize you because you’re wearing too many clothes.

  • What? It’s her job anyway if she’s saying the truth!

  • *hic* HEY! Who let this doe in? Atta girl, you sure eat your veggies…

Role assigned to: Heisenbern

Co-worker of one of the protagonists, scolding her in this scene. Currenly an extra, but will have more lines in the future.
She's a doe somewhere in her late 20s early 30s, working at The Desert Rose (an extremely fancy brothel). Arrogant in her scolding, though she's right to do so. She's ambitious and cowardly, though only the second part shows in this scene, where she's getting sassed back by said protagonist.
The first line is supposed to be accusative, while the second should be hesitant. Rashel is pronounced "rah-SHELL"

  • We've been looking everywhere for you!!

  • What...? I... Miss Rashel said— ("that we were to find you", just for clarity when trailing off)
