The Half-Light: Pilot Episode

Project Overview

Hello, voice actors!

Recently I finished writing the pilot episode of The Half-Light. It came to me in an ACTUAL fever dream not long ago, and ever since I've been non-stop writing, making concept art, and talking about it to everyone I know.

I was originally going to wait until I could find an animator to cast voice actors because I know it can be frustrating to be cast in a role and wait for so long, but I haven't found anybody interested. So, I'm now going to be animating it myself with stop-motion animation! This does mean the episode will take awhile to make, so keep that in mind when you choose to audition! (Note: I am still open to animators if anyone is willing to animate for free!)

Here is the synopsis of the pilot episode: After a mediocre day at school, twins Lucy and Lillith Perdue get an unexpected delivery during dinner; an heirloom from their great-grandmother. Specifically, a large mirror covered in velvet. That night, the girls hear a mysterious voice softly calling their names. They make their way downstairs and eventually figure out it must be the mirror that’s calling them. They unveil it and discover something strange; the mirror seemingly has no reflection, yet it doesn’t look empty or broken; it just looks dim. Lillith reaches out and her hand phases through the mirror’s surface. The girls hesitantly jump in and meet Agis - a guide for the ones chosen to protect the realm known as The Half-Light. He then informs them of their grim fate: they can never leave.

Note: Details of the Half-Light realm are currently being kept secret out of my fear of being plagiarized. The synopsis is for the pilot episode specifically, not the plot as a whole.

Thank you all!

Latest Updates

  • Deadline extension, discord server, callbacks

    Hello everyone!

Firstly, thank you all so much for auditioning! This will probably be a slow-moving project due to my schedule, so I appreciate your patience!

The deadline has been extended until around this time next month. This is because I really would like for more people to audition for the minor roles! If you are cast as one, you are very likely to be cast as future minor characters as well if they fit your voice! I ESPECIALLY need more auditions for Suzanne and Fred because they have the potential to appear in future episodes! (not because the ones who have auditioned are bad, but this way if you aren't cast for one of the main three, you still have a chance at being in the show!)

I've went through and began shortlisting people. I'm not going to be dismissing auditions just yet, so if you would like feedback on your auditions, please DM me either here or on discord! I'd be super happy to answer your questions, and you can try the character(s) again! If you choose to re-submit, I would prefer if you did not delete your old audition so that I can compare them!

Lastly, if I end up having a difficult time deciding on who to assign for a role, (*COUGH COUGH*, AGIS) there may eventually be callbacks! I'll hold callbacks in the new discord server. I'd love to hear from you all!

  • New characters!

I've updated the project with the rest of the characters who appear in the pilot episode!

I've added Lucy and Lillith's parents, Suzanne and Fred, who will be getting concept art soon! Additionally, I added slots for the background characters who appear in the pilot episode, but they likely won't be getting concept art.

    I can't wait to hear everyone's auditions!

Lucy is the older twin, and she shows that in her mannerisms. She is more logical and anxious than her sister is, and often gets upset when her sister is being careless. However, she loves her sister a lot and has separation anxiety (but she would NEVER tell Lillith that).

She speaks logically and doesn't often make jokes unless she feels very comfortable with the people she's around. She's been made fun of a lot in her life and isn't quite as quick to open up anymore. It's noticeable when she's talking to someone in class for example that she's barely audible, but when she's with Lillith she's much more relaxed.

I could picture her voice as being medium-high, but not low. I do not have anything specific in mind at all, however, so please feel free to make her sound unique!

  • (splitting up for the day at school) Alright, see you later, Lillith.

  • Lillith, it wasn't me that was calling you. That means... it had to have been the mirror.

  • (yelling) JESUS, LILLITH YOU SCARED ME.

Lillith is the younger twin. She presents herself as much more laidback than Lucy is; she's more popular at school and she participates more as well. However, she does get tired of the people at school, too. She gets frustrated when they don't listen, or when they seem only interested in superficial things.

Aside from that, Lillith also deeply cares for her sister, and worries about her. She notices when people aren't treating her well and stands up for her.

In all, Lillith is a very outspoken person. She tells people what she thinks, even if it might not be the politest thing to say. But she's not rude, she just has a point to make.

I also picture her voice as being high-medium pitched, but aside from that it's up to you as the voice actor to make a voice you think fits her!

  • Yes, mom I'm awake! Not sure about Lucy, though...

  • (frustrated) Can you all please shut up? We're only here for like an hour a day and some of us have goals in life past high school.

  • (in awe) Woah... Lucy are you seeing this?

Agis is the guide for those chosen to protect the Half-Light realm. He often teases people and he's more on the sassy side. However, he's hiding guilt behind his humor due to a tragic event that occurred long before Lucy and Lillith were chosen.

His voice would be medium-low but not super high.

I'd like for him to have an accent different than American. The one I have in mind is a posh British accent, but if there's one you see more fitting then I'd love to hear it!

  • Greetings, young sentries!

  • Oh, don't all applaud me at once...

  • (grimly) Well, you see... you can't leave.

Suzanne is the mother of Lucy and Lillith Perdue.

She is a minor character who appears in roughly 2 scenes for the pilot episode.

I don't have anything in mind for her voice other than the fact she needs to sound like an adult. She's pretty easygoing, and she loves her daughters. So just make sure she doesn't sound evil.

  • Girls! Your bus is here!

  • I'll take that for safekeeping.

  • So, how was school today?

Fred is the father of Lucy and Lillith Perdue. He's a minor character who appears roughly twice in the pilot episode.

For his voice, I envision something similar to the Other Father from Coraline. Sort of playful and upbeat.

  • Have a good day at school, girls!

  • It's an heirloom from your great-grandmother. About time they sent her stuff out, am I right!

  • I'm on my way!

There are three girls who the twins interact with at school. I can either cast three separate people, or cast someone who can do varying voices that don't sound alike.

There is a teacher in one of the scenes who has a few lines. He could sound old or young.

As I had stated in the description, I'm currently planning on stop-motion animating the episode.

HOWEVER! That is a very time-consuming task. I would greatly appreciate if anyone could lend me their animating skill for this project!
