  • CASTING UPDATE — The Corsair Chronicles

Hey everyone! Posting an update for The Corsair Chronicles, my pirate-themed audio drama (Scarlet Tempest, Pirate Council, the works).

Due to personal circumstances on their end, several of our previously cast voice actors are no longer able to continue with the project — totally understandable, life happens, and we wish them well.

As a result, I'm running a big recasting and opening up multiple roles across the main crew and the Pirate Council. Whether you auditioned before or this is your first time seeing the project, I'd love to have you throw your hat in.

What I'm looking for: cinematic, character-driven performances — no exaggerated "pirate voice," just genuine acting.

CAPTAIN EDWARD "BLACKSTORM" THORNE — Pirate Council

Age range: Mid-40s (character is 45)

Voice type: Low, deliberate, commanding — the kind of voice that doesn't need volume to control a room

Character: A living legend of the seas, Thorne commands fear without ever raising his voice. Known for sailing directly into storms and emerging victorious, he's as calm as he is terrifying. His presence alone can silence a room — or start a war.

Voice direction: Economy of words and absolute stillness are the goal — every line should feel final, like there's no point arguing further. The performance lives in restraint; a single cane strike on the floor should carry more weight than shouting ever could.

Audition Lines:

1. (Total command, minimal effort)

"Can we begin?"

2. (Dry, cutting authority)

"Stories tend to improve themselves with retelling." — (beat) — "You'd be surprised."

3. (Cold precision, veiled threat)

"Truth is expensive around here, Cartographer."

CASTING CALL: ORION GALE — Lookout, The Scarlet Tempest

Age range: Mid-20s (character is 26) | Voice type: Quiet, steady, grounded. A voice people lean in to hear.

Character: Orion spends long hours in the crow’s nest watching the horizon. He rarely speaks, but when he does, the whole crew listens. His eyesight and instincts have saved the ship more than once. Patient and observant, and a little unsure how to handle it when someone pays him attention. Over the season, Orion begins discovering his sexuality, with flirtatious scenes with another male character that play out as awkward, curious, and a bit flustered.

Voice direction: Understated delivery. His power comes from restraint, so no big volume or heavy emotion. Most lines should sound like he’s thinking out loud. He should still be able to project when he calls a warning from the crow’s nest. In the flirting scenes, play him as genuinely caught off guard rather than coy: hesitant, a little flustered, and unsure why he can’t look away.

Content note: The role includes flirting scenes with another male character. The actor must be 18+ and comfortable performing flirtatious/romantic-leaning dialogue. The scenes are light and non-explicit.

Audition Lines:

1. (Calling out, clear and carrying)
“Land ahead!”

2. (Quiet instinct, unsettled)
“Ship two berths down. No colors, no crest. Crew’s not talking to anyone.” (beat) “Not like that one. I’ve just got a bad feeling about it.”

3. (Flustered, caught off guard)
“...Sure. Yeah. Maybe.” (beat, quieter, to himself) “...Huh.”

CASTING CALL: JACK RACKMAN — Captain, The Scarlet Tempest

Age range: Late 20s (character is 28)

Voice type: Confident baritone/tenor — charismatic and magnetic, with real warmth underneath the bravado

Character: Jack is the legendary captain of the Scarlet Tempest — charming, cunning, and fearless, known across the seas for daring raids and even cleverer tactics. He leads through wit and charisma rather than fear, with an unshakable belief in freedom. Underneath the easy charm is a mysterious past tied to the Pirate Council, and a man who takes real risks for the people he loves.

Voice direction: Looking for a cinematic, character-driven performance — natural confidence, quick banter, and the ability to shift seamlessly between playful flirtation and real emotional weight when the stakes get personal. No exaggerated or stereotypical "pirate accent."

Dynamic notes: Jack has significant chemistry-driven scenes with Ruby (bickering, growing partnership) and Tobias Reed (an established romantic relationship) — auditioners should be comfortable playing both platonic charm and genuine queer romantic intimacy (no NSFW scene).

  • "Welcome to Blackwake Harbor, Darling. Most people spend their entire lives trying to find this place."

  • "If any of those captains become a problem... they'll have to deal with me first."

  • "Told you... I'd always cover your back, Darling."

BRUTUS "IRONJAW" HALE — Cannoneer, The Scarlet Tempest

Age range: Mid-30s (character is 35)

Voice type: Deep, booming — big laugh, bigger presence

Character: Brutus handles the ship's cannons with unmatched skill. Loud, fearless, and powerful, with a booming laugh that carries across the deck even mid-battle. Rough around the edges, but fiercely protective of the crew underneath it all.

Voice direction: Big, physical energy — someone who sounds like he takes up space in a room (or a battle) without trying. Should still land quieter, sincere beats when it matters.

  • "Loaded and ready! Say the word, Captain — I'll give 'em something to remember us by!"

  • "You want me to check the hull for damage while we're at it?" — (beat, softer) "...Everyone's accounted for, by the way. Thought you'd want to know."

Role assigned to: TenorAndString

CALDER ASH — Master-at-Arms, The Scarlet Tempest

Age range: Mid-30s (character is 36)

Voice type: Firm, controlled — steady command presence, not booming

Character: Calder ensures the crew is combat-ready at all times, maintaining order during battle and overseeing training drills. Strict and disciplined on the surface, with deep, quiet loyalty to the captain and crew underneath. Also asexual — worth noting for any future character material involving his personal life.

Voice direction: Economical, no-nonsense delivery — a man who doesn't waste words. The discipline should read as competence, not coldness; let small moments of dry humor or protectiveness slip through without undercutting the control.

  • "Lines ready! Hold until he's in range — don't waste the first volley!"

  • "Everyone gets dramatic about something." — (beat) "Add it to the list. There's always a list."

  • "Only if you want an honest answer." / "That reef didn't do us any favors."

ROWAN FLINT — Pirate Council Captain

Age range: Late 30s (character is 38)

Voice type: Smooth, measured — a voice that never seems to rush, even under pressure

Character: A master manipulator who plays the long game. Rowan prefers strategy and alliances over violence, and every word he speaks is deliberate — rarely without a hidden second meaning. He smiles constantly, which should feel more unsettling than warm.

Voice direction: Pleasant on the surface, calculating underneath — the goal is a voice that makes the listener (and other characters) uneasy without ever raising in volume or obviously "playing villain." Precision over menace.

Audition Lines:

1. (Pleasant, probing)

"You must be the cartographer." — (beat) — "Fair. Rowan Flint."

2. (Deliberate reframing, unsettling calm)

"Not whether the map exists. Everyone already believes it does. The real question is where it leads."

3. (Quietly damning, final)

"She's aboard the Scarlet Tempest." — (beat) — "Real." — (beat) — "Good luck with that."

FINN DOYLE — Cabin Boy, The Scarlet Tempest

Age range: Teen (character is 16)

Voice type: Bright, youthful energy — expressive, not yet weathered by the sea

Character: The youngest member of the crew, Finn dreams of becoming a legendary pirate. Inexperienced but endlessly enthusiastic — his courage and energy often surprise the older sailors around him. Provides much of the crew's comic relief and wide-eyed wonder.

Voice direction: Should read as genuinely young — quick energy shifts (excitement to offense to fear and back), a bit dramatic, easily impressed. Comedic timing matters here, but so does sincerity in his smaller vulnerable moments.

Audition Lines:

1. (Dramatic complaint, comedic)

"I nearly died, Lila." — (beat) — "Two days is a long time. It is if you're me."

2. (Wide-eyed wonder)

"This place is amazing." — (beat, whispering, awed) — "Wait — that's Captain Bloodwake?"

3. (Genuine fear, underneath the bravado)

"Is that his ship?!" — (beat, scared, quieter) — "It's bigger than ours."

CAPTAIN LEODINAS "STORMFIN" DELGADO — Pirate Council

Age range: Early 30s (character is 33)

Voice type: High energy, restless — quick, loud, impossible to pin down

Character: Unpredictable and full of energy, Leonidas embraces chaos like no other captain in the Council. He thrives in dangerous conditions, takes risks others wouldn't dare, and treats the sea as something to become rather than something to survive. Bisexual, with an unresolved crush on Orion Gale that he plays as teasing bravado — likely more genuine underneath than he lets on.

Voice direction: Fast, grinning energy that never quite sits still — even his warnings sound like he's enjoying himself. Should contrast against the Council's more controlled captains (Thorne, Nyra) by sounding like he could do anything at any moment.

Audition Lines:

1. (Loud entrance, teasing)

"Rackman! Still alive, I see. Disappointing."

2. (Reckless delight, danger as fun)

"Varrick heard it too, by the way. He's already asking around." — (beat, delighted) — "Good. Means it's interesting."

3. (Flirtatious, unbothered by risk)

"You're going to fall." — (beat) — "Probably. Wouldn't be the first time."

HELENA "RED TIDE" MORANO — Weapons Master, The Scarlet Tempest

Age range: Late 20s (character is 28) | Voice type: Warm, confident mid-to-medium-low pitch — quick and energetic, never shouty

Character: Helena is the deadliest fighter aboard the Scarlet Tempest and trains the crew in combat. Fearless, loyal, and quick-witted, with a confidence that comes from real experience, not ego. She survived the loss of a former crew in an ambush years ago and still carries the guilt of being the one who lived — underneath the sarcasm and swagger is someone still learning she doesn't have to protect everyone alone.

Voice direction: Natural, effortless humor — never performed. In combat she's focused and commanding, not panicked. When truly angry, her voice goes quieter and sharper rather than louder. Fear shows as a pause or tighter breath, not a crack in her voice. Avoid cockiness or constant shouting — she's confident because she's earned it.

Audition Lines:

1. (Combat command, controlled)

"Arms up. Again." — (beat, dry) — "And you were terrible yesterday. Again."

2. (Battle focus, not panic)

"Hold until he's in range — don't waste the first volley!"

3. (Quiet vulnerability under deflection)

"That's almost affection from him." — (beat, teasing, but something real underneath) — "Don't spread rumors."
